Savitri

If you are looking for an animalic chypre, look no further. This is a well blended fragrance, with an incense-civet-musk focus, but also with light touches of citrus and an oakmoss backbone. The floral part is prominently champaca which gives a rich and complex floral scent. Savitri is inspired by using Asian touches to florals and spices, but it is a truly universal, deep and rich fragrance. It is unisex and long lasting.

Very good stuff! Smells like Homa (with extra citrus and green notes here) minus the goat hair. If you were thinking of trying Homa but are nervous about goat smell, try this one. Dries down to a lovely champaca and musk skinscent.

Intense lime opening, with its sourness enhanced by aldehydes to give an almost petrol-like scent. Civet is quite distinctive and strong for the first hour or so, then toned down by the floral and incense notes. I found bendingdream's description 'a gas station toilet urinal cake' quite accurate but surprisingly I don't hate this kind of scent. It is more often to see civet with warm amber-y notes than fresh/citrusy notes here in Savitri. Low-medium projection on my skin. (btw, savitri and chypre-siam smell nothing alike on my skin. CS is more green/herbal due to basil and much less animalic.)

Uffff I am not sure about this one, the note combination in the opening just reminds me too much of a gas station toilet urinal cake.... I guess it's a mixture of citruses, oakmoss and champaca that create a blast of fresh, sweet, almost aldehydic scent that I normally would find enjoyable if it weren't for the unfortunate olfactory association. Adding a civet note with it's slightly animalic, pissy profile really doesn't help either and I generally love the way Prin handles animalic scents... The opening wanes of quickly though and the drydown offers a rather standard Prin reisinous/musky experience, which ofc means its done beautifully. Overall, Savitri doesn't really stand out from Prin's catalogue, but it just isn't for me... Too bad, I really wanted to like it for the name alone :(

Savitri is yet another one from Prin Lomros. Is this meant to be envelope-pushing, editorial? I like experimentation, I'm no "normie," I can revel in the weird and wonderful, but I also can discern when rules seem to be deliberately ignored or are no learned. We learn rules to break them in art like perfumery: that's my opinion. Here, there just seems to be a lack of structure, it just blasts with a pairing of lime, cumin, and a civet accord. Orange and civet, perhaps. Orange and cumin, yes indeed. Orange, civet, and, cumin? Daring, but could work. But lime with civet AND cumin? I feel like the astringent, sour quality of lime doesn't work well with animalics. The end result smells like somewhere between dour and raunchy. This does ease up, however, and the dry down of the scent is a bit more pleasant, if not somewhat blurry and olbique. I am just so put off by the wretched top notes that Savitri just can't redeem itself for me. I am beginning to really think Prin's approach is not a taste I can acquire.
