Ambra Mediterranea (Versilia Vintage Ambra Mediterranea)

What a fabulous amber! At first, coriander seed and orange rind dance together, creating so much electricity that - whoof! - they quite literally smoulder. There is a good hour with this perfume that it's predominantly a lovely smoky wood, with all the warmth and dryness that implies. There's a little salty airiness to this as well, which I suppose is the 'Meditarranea' part. This mellows into an amber-patchouli that should, by rights, smell ordinary, but has just enough edge to keep it fascinating. The sillage, interestingly enough, is quite vanillic and almost sweet, but I can barely smell anything vanilla with my nose to my wrist. It makes for a lovely contrast. Definitely unisex - truly unisex, I should say. I don't want anything softer or feminine from it for myself, but I also think it would smell amazing on a guy.

Multidimensional amber that doesn't feel cluttered or heavy straight upon hitting the skin like most ambers do. Instead, it changes mood periodically and quite seamlessly, elegantly - incense, herbs and minerals, resins, at one point even soapy on my skin, then back to just a hint of vanilla... Lots and lots of facets so the richness of this amber is in versatility and such lightness, yet 24 hour-longevity. Pure bliss for amber lovers and the best amber I encountered sofar.

I've been holding onto a decant of this for the longest I'd love to come across a fb at some point but I won't hold my breathe. Such a deep, rich, smokey resinous amber. Noticable sea breeze, floral, warm air nuances very reminiscent of a Mediterranean night. Another thing I imagine is a bowl of Italian ice cream dashed in a single shot of cognac especially in the dry down it's something about it giving off a boozy element. Sexy $h!+

For a first ten minutes its the best amber i have smelt, its like a burning amber vulacno, crazy! 10/10 Then going down to something between Laddm and Lonestar memories drydown with a hint of Prada Amber pour femme. This note, maybe patchouly, maybe its tolu balsam.. 9/10 All in all, best amber in company with Laddm and L'Occitane's Ambre

Part of me is tempted to purchase a full bottle of this if only for the fact that it's such a stellar amber, but the other part of me says it's very much in masculine territory and while I have no problem wearing masculine fragrances as a rule, this one just doesn't read to my nose like something that is unisex. It's strong, it's virile, it's smokey, it's got something animalic in it that threatens to eat you. I think I might like a decant to sniff now and again though!

Not something I thought I would hear myself saying, but this is just too much. I have been on a real amber hunt of late, trying to track down my ultimate amber, so I have been sampling a LOT of amber scents trying to whittle it down. This is not one of my favoured scents. This has Nasomatto strength potency, and there is a strong chemical-synthetic note that I cannot quite place, but man it is persistent and invasive. It is just unrelenting, for me there is this super powerful synthetic woody type note that almost reminds me of cleaning alcohol, a dense heavy thick patchouli that tends to earthy chocolate nuances, a hint of deep amber and a touch of resins and spice with a little tiny bit of something floral plus what feels almost like a smidgen of oud. The closest thing I can think to compare and liken it to, is if you wore a hefty dose of Black Afgano one day, and the next day you wore the same clothes, that are impregnated with BA, but this time you applied Blamage. Liberally.This is super dense and super intense. Unfortunately for me the chemical note has an eye watering harshness and t is is unrelenting from the initial spray right through into the late drydown. This note, and the patch are by far and away the strongest and had I not known this was meant to be an amber I would have said it was a dark, heavy patch scent. I find it to be very linear on my skin with little progression, just a wall of smell. And after a while I find it is just unrelenting, and yet boring at the same time. One spray on my wrist has lasted easy 10 hours now and is still projecting insanely. I had applied TF Oud Fleur as my SOTD, which I usually find pretty strong but this has just obliterated the TF! I had been sat in one room for an hour or so, with my single spray to the wrist of this, returned to the room an hour later and was greeted on entry by a blast of this stuff! It is intense! It isn't for me, I find the notes don't settle or melt into the skin at all, I am not keen on the overly strong and insistent chemical note and there is very little amber to my nose. That said, if you are looking for a BIG, loud and heavy Patch scent this may be of interest to you. Longevity, one spray from a sample vial to forearm lasted over 12 hours with clearly detectable sillage, and this stuff will fill a room, knock out a bus load of people, suffocate your colleagues etc if you aren't careful so go easy on the sprayer. Ultimately it isn't for me but if it does work out for you then I imagine you will be very pleased with the performance.

Reminds me of Seher al Kalemat in many respects. Amber underneath frankincense, with a strong wood backbone. The frankincense in this is in the form of incense, while Kalemat Black is raw. It appears to my nose that I am smelling oud in this like Seher, but it is just the woods with the coriander, and orange. Well done accord. I don't like the bite in this and not enough amber for my taste. Makes sense as there is no amber listed in the notes. When comparing this to Kalemat Black I find the Kalemat to be far superior. Stronger, and smoother. This one is just ok for me, and I do not find it to be as good of a performer as most.

my throath itches .. i don't think a good fragrance shoud do that. too much is too much. unbalanced aromachemicals, and delusion of grandeur. i should have bought, ambra nera, ambre sultan or ambra aurea, or nothing at all 2015 edit: well i bought all of em ha ha

I own the older bottle of Versilia Vintage Ambra Mediterranea (VVAM), which I personally find more aesthetically pleasing than the newer design. Beyond its elegant presentation, the fragrance itself is a standout, arguably one of the finest amber scents available today. VVAM opens with a caramel-like sweetness, enriched by vibrant orange notes. This transitions into a heart of soft florals, eventually settling into a warm, woody base dominated by patchouli. The result is a rich, complex and luminous blend with impressive longevity and projection. The dry down is where VVAM truly shines. Notes of grey amber, benzoin, cedar, tolu balm, patchouli, incense, vanilla and white musk come together to create a heady, sacred amber experience with subtle incense nuances. It’s no surprise that I often receive compliments from colleagues, sometimes even a bit too enthusiastically, as they try to catch a closer whiff! If you can get your hands on a bottle, especially the original design, I highly recommend it. In my opinion, it outperforms many of its rivals, including Grand Soir, Ambra Aurea and/or Ambre Sultan. A true gem in the amber fragrance category, although Amber Absolute is still my best amber, to my nose.

The review as guest was from me. Sorry, but I was timed out from logging without my knowing. I was stunned and impressed by how this perfume affected me. I made a back hand generous spray and there was a big blast of sharp chemical note maybe from the cedar, then sweetness of vanilla, then the creaminess of maybe from tolu balm then dry smoke from benzoin, the warm feel of incense and the wonder of coriander. Powerful, strong, outstanding and an explosion of a buttery note mixed with woods. The amber was just right, the cream is always there along with the smoke. It is a very complex scent that may not earn as much compliments as Black Afgano. But it may earn your favor as it is indeed another diamond in the amber group. The heart and base reminds me of Black Afgano, both sensual, both beautiful but AM is really more complex. If this perfume does not have oud, then I am astonished by this tolu balm note, once again. A solid winter fragrance, warm and inviting at the dry down. It takes a spray or two only, you are set. Longevity is beast. My rate for this one is 9/10.

After 3 testings of this Fragrance...I had to draw my own conclusions. I hope I do not disappoint...I just like to be honest with my own findings. *** First of all... I think this would be more suitable for a man. I adore Serge Lutens Amber Sultan...and I believe it is perfect for any one with a beating pulse...but this one is more woody and lacks any feminine flair to my flesh. Do I think it is delicious? Absolutely. It smells as though it were straight out of an incense box....and the best quality box of course! But to me it lacks a sort of unique quality I would hope for. It seems more of an expected..."This is what it is...and this is how it smells" I hope this makes since as I just came from the Speakeasy.... This one does not make me want to climb the walls and hang from the chandeliers...so to speak...nor does it make me want to unlace my corset...but more likely... head to Amsterdam and find some coffee shop and light up a fatty. Of course....you should try it...it may be different under your nose...

Not for the shy and retiring. This little beauty doesn't just pack a punch, it obliterates. It kills first and asks questions later and I say thank you my sexy little grenade! Not a first date perfume for when you're still pretending to be normal. This is what you spritz when you're going up against the atom bomb. The film noir femme fatale with perfect white teeth clenching a cigarette behind her angular red pout, eyeliner wings you could slice bread with, gravelly voiced, demanding and commanding. Come hither but I will crush you! You do it anyway because you are hypnotized and if you can't be her or be with her, you no longer want to be. She turns James Bond into Woody Allen and he thanks her for it. Is the price tag worth it....? I'm still on the fence but then isn't that what the femme fatale does, leave you confused and regretful yet utterly addicted?

Just when I thought to dismiss this as a clay-like fragrance, the floodgates of amber appeared on my skin. With that being said, there's too much going on to summarily say that amber lovers will enjoy this one...and I'm not taking a shot at Ambra Mediterranea because this is a certified beast as it pertains to the fragrance as a whole. Old school as it is, the elegance displayed here is timeless regardless of era. The top reminds you of that retro orange theme that popularized the 70's. The Corriander and Patchouli are step brothers in this composition and at times hard to distinguish. The bread and butter is no doubt during the Amber hour BUT that's to be enjoyed in the 2nd half in its duration. If you have the patience and able to withstand the exotic stuff on the top end, this could be for you.

I love amber scents. Sweet and yummy amber scents. This one belongs in that category and is very enjoyable to me. On me I cannot detect any orange or flowers, just delightful sweetness with a malty and caramelly note. AM definitely has similarity to Pure Malt. If you like Pure Malt you might like Ambra Mediterranea or vice versa. The scent develops more and more sweetness with time, displaying a soft woody chocolate aroma. Nothing is scratchy or harsh in this composition. Very pleasant and suitable for gourmand lovers. There is another scent I find vaguely similar : Amber Absolute by Tom Ford but AM is less strong. Nevertheless, it is a long-lasting perfume with very nice sillage. Downpoint : only available as 100ml and the price....but you get a pretty good value for that.

A magnificent concoction of top quality amber (among the best available on the market) and straight ahead frankincense with a considerable woody presence. Warm, embracing, succulent, velvety, deep yet somehow crisp and enriched by sharpened details. The creme brulee of ambers. For anyone who's into amber and incense Ambra Mediterranea is a mandatory stop. T-E-R-R-I-F-I-C! Insanely powerful and potentially cloying, be careful with dosage. Kudos to Mr.Duchaufour! Rating: 9/10

The parfum opens wih coriander, than it goes sweet on my skin (Orange?). Sweet, sweeter and sweeter like honey. But the same way it keeps on to be very dry and woody. There is no Flower scent at all! It is pure oriental - woody fragrance on me. Like I've already said before it has something in common with Black Afgano, but with more sweetness. It is pretty sophisticated scent, multifaceted and adult. But I'm just not sure that I really love it.

After reading all the reviews I was expecting to be blown away. This is very good but it’s not anything crazy unique. It has a molecule/synthetic element to it. It also doesn’t project much and I can’t smell it five minutes after I spray it. It smells great but not a resin type amber. Very airy and synthetic. Similar to Christos Giardini Di Toscana. Not similar to AA as that smells like real amber resin and this smells synthetic.

With Ambre Mediterranea I get a big dose of woods followed by the Ambre and then joined by a dose of Frankincense. After a while a citrus orange joins the mix but just slightly. As time goes by the ambre gets slightly sweeter but the woody presence is still strong. So for me the experience has been a interplay mainly of woods and ambre. It's very nice and smells good but I prefer Ambre 114 for my ambre fix.

Can anyone direct me to where I could purchase a discovery set? I received a small vile decant, fell madly in love and I can find nowhere to purchase from a website. I understand this house is in Italy..I am in Canada but, I literally can not find any site in which to order a discovery set to try and solve this unsettling mystery. Please help if you can?

Expensive......yes , but totally worth it....as an amber lover it is a must have....the best amber fragrance i have ever smelled, if you are looking for compliments you should absolutely check it....i had 2 compliments in 3 days since i have used it....never had such a quick response on a fragrance...Amber mixed with incense...Masterpiece

Great amber! For people who don't like sweet or floral ambers. The fragrance is very well blended so nothing really stands out but overall it feels - earthy, fresh, balsamic, frankincense, clay-like. Feels grey to me, if that makes sense. Must try for amber lovers.

Ciao Ofelia,a me sembra molto simile a Duro di Nasomatto,solo che qui si sente di più l'ambra. Great perfume,to me it seems very similar to Nasomatto's Duro. Great longevity and sillage. Notwhistanding luxuriuos packaging,I think the price is too much. (168 €!)

Wonderful Amber. Very close in structure to Tom Ford’s Amber Absolute. This is what niche perfumery is all about. This is not a perfume for those who like their Amber’s sweet and cloying. Very well done! An X rated Amber!

Hello, can anyone, please, tell me if the package/bottle was recently change? And the composition of the perfume was change? I tested a few yers ago, I like it and now the bottle is different. Thanks.

Rich, opulent, spicy dry amber... Im disappointed in this one, into the heart and all I get is a nice spicy dry amber. Its good but nothing I haven't come across before.
