Obscurus

This is a very interesting one. I get an immediately sharp and very aldehydic woodsy scent, where after the alcohol kind of evaporates, the "forest" comes to life. It reminds me of growing up and drinking mulled wine. The notes come together to me in just the right way for it to have the smell of a very juicy orange zest, red wine, and christmassy spices. I realize these are not listed in the notes, but that's what I'm getting. The orange in this one is absolutely beautiful - it feels like taking a bite of a juicy orange-wedge (not like the orange you get in a carton of orange juice). and the woody notes come together to give me a bright woodsy smell that reminds me of Christmas, walking with my family in the pine forest. Geranium is almost unnoticeable for me, so this one is all about the orange, pine, incense and wood base. When I stop to think about it, the incense notes are probably what I smell when I talk about christmassy spices. For this reason, due to personal association, I'd probably call this a winter/autumn scent, but I'd say no matter who you are, this is one to try. I own this and several of those in the 'reminds me of section' : Sancti, Free d'Homme, Tribute Blue, Kobraa - the latter did not appear when I bought Obscurus : bravo to those who voted for Kobraa because it's definitely very close, almost a clone. On me there is none of the liturgical quality which is prominent in Sancti, far less and a different citrus than in Free d'Homme which has a very unique candied spicy-christmassy lemon, none of the vetiver which is so strong in Tribute Blue. On my skin this is overall a very classy scent, dark and super dry. Totally fan of the opening and its beautiful, slightly fizzy orange peel. Bit of a shame that this fades rather quickly, but it gives way to that same gorgeous blend between incense and geranium you find in Kobraa, with a faint memory of that initial orange peel in the background. Worn mostly during hot days - not ill suited to those because of its dryness -, and I'm looking forward to reassess during winter days. Quite beautiful !

Aromatic goodness with interesting fizzy (and surprisingly somewhat animalic) accords. It smells like refreshing wormwoods with mint undertones that somehow transforms into dirty musks with a touch of Cola spices.

I recently got a sample of it, and it smells exactly like an old church in a pine forest with some orange peel in the background.

I love this fragrance. It's the glow of a flame rather than the burnt of the wood, it's balsamic and well balanced with an orange peel zing sparkly and refreshing like the cold drink in winter you didn't realise would go down so well. A vague deer musk accord darts back and forth in the distance. I don't get a dark vibe from the fragrance, I don't get a totally complex vibe, just a really pleasant linear experience with a great price point. Highly recommend for those who enjoy something a little different, but not too crazy. Suitable for most weather or time of day. I love this little gem. 7.5/10. I could live without it, but I'm glad I own it. Edit march 22 2026: this stuff in the moderate spring is so good! I love it! The orange zest and pine notes! Damn! What versatile fragrance, and really quite underrated I think.
