Patchouly

This is one of the really high quality patchouli beasts out there. Forget all the others if you are after a high fidelity patchouli that announces itself firmly and stays for the long haul. As has been noted below, this one starts off loud, with a cognac like, boozy note and a really earthy, green, slightly dirty patch bordered by hints of that 'chocolatey' patch goodness. It settles down after 10-20 minutes to reveal the supporting cast of a beautiful smokey sandalwood (almost like when one burns real sandalwood on a charcoal burner as a room scent), with delightful wafts of benzoin or copal peeking out from time to time, much more so in the dry down, where that incense vibe really shines. Then there's the amber, done just how I like it. Not too sweet or sticky, more of a dried down, deep and sensual vibe, which helps pull the leash back on the wild patch note. As a whole, balance is the key word that comes to mind. Every note is blended in perfect proportion to one another, to create one of the classiest (no hippy head shop vibe here), sexiest patchouli scents on the market. Wait....did I just call patchouli sexy? Well there you go, who'd have seen that coming! Profumum Roma just never seem to let me down. Their heavy emphasis on high quality raw materials set them apart from many houses out there, and the price tag they ask is reflective of this. But then again, for such high quality, long lasting scents, isn't it worth spending a little more? Their fragrances are so strong that a bottle is bound to last the prudent wearer a very long time. Their take on Olibanum is another mind blower if you like incense scents and Patchouli, is something every patch lover should have in their wardrobe. Unisex, elegant, mysterious and dare I say it again, sexy! A real knock out.

I sampled this side by side with Psychedelique to decide which one I would to buy. When I first sprayed these, the patchouli note smelled very similar — like 95% similar to my virgin patchouli nose. Within a few minutes, each fragrance transformed into a noticeably different fragrance. With Patchouly, I detected a fresh and pleasant wet earth/dirt aroma. Psychedelique on the other hand morphed into a dense chocolate cake patchouli note with the slightest hint of barnyard. A few minutes later, Patchouly gave way to a Vietnamese cinnamon-dusted, spicy, earthy, fudge note with the slightest hint of solidifying candle wax. Psychedelique then continued to settle down and smooth out into a slightly funky, musky patchouli. I fully intended to prefer Psychedelique, but there's something about Patchouly that's more appealing and intoxicating to my nose. We'll see how well each of these perform, but so far the sillage on Patchouly is noticeably more impressive. At this point, I could see myself owning a full bottle of both since they're significantly different. With that said, I see myself likely wearing Patchouly in public more than Psychedelique. 3 Hour Update: Psychedelique dried down to a smooth vanilla musk with a hint of rich chocolate cake — I imagine in warmer weather the patchouli would remain more intense. Patchouly dried down to a smooth and warm amber with hints of damp earth and cinnamon chocolate cake. Additional Context: Winter, 68 ̊F indoors, 20% humidity, sprayed each perfume once on the back of a hand.

The main agreement of this fragrance revolves around patchouli, a patchouli that is noticeable from the beginning, patchouli that feels strong and very energetic, since it stands out greatly from the rest of notes (it takes more than 50% concentration of this oil essential). The amber accompanies this patchouli throughout the life of this fragrance, this amber is of classic and pure lines giving a very oriental and balsamic air to the chord, brings the warm and sweet bed (well avainillado) to the composition with soft spicy nuances and Woody, which suits him very well. The effect of the incense causes a vaporous and dry aura effect, it is like a soft smoke, a warm breeze that brings density and more body, which makes everything feel very well integrated. We must congratulate Profumum Roma for the tremendous quality of its essences, in that sense it is a perfumed, this makes it perform tremendously well on skin. The projection is moderate, but hard and hard and hard ..... On the other hand, I feel that the composition is very linear, lacks complexity, with a predictable development, alone, they have focused on a good chord, according to that yes, heavy, generous, even baroque, come on !! To cut with knife and fork, that makes this patchouli can be turned with its use, a dull monotonous and boring. Still I liked it a lot. Rating: 7.5

Wow, this is Amazing. A clean Patchouli with a hint of chocolate in the distance. I mostly get sandalwood and amber in the supporting role.I get a sawdust ish note. Like freshly sawed planks of wood. I'd swear there is cardamom in it too. It definitely has some spice to it. To say it simply, ist's Spectacular. Strong, long lasting, projects great. You can get it in 100ml bottles and in 18ml bottles. And although a lot cheaper per ml if you go with the 100ml bottle. This is a "1-3 sprays Max" fragrance. 18ml will last you a Long time. I ordered 8 Profumum Roma samples from a store that sells Profumum Roma. And although not every one of them was to my liking. This is the favorite of the 8. I already had "Acqua Di Sale" and "Sorriso", of which bot i love too. Way too heavy for summer, but a crisp spring day/night, i can easily see this being a great fragrance. Winter and fall of course too. Day or night, though most favorable in the evening/night. It's a cozy sort of fragrance. Casual too formal. This is an "all occasions" style of scent in my opinion. Probably more for the mature crowd then the young. But age and timeless in my opinion. Leans very masculine on me, but it could be fine on a woman (i haven't tested it on any women, so i can't say). Personal score: 9.25/10. I Need a bottle of this in the near future.

Today is Patchouli Friday!! Yay! I must admit this was not love at first sniff. The first time I got a sniff of this I was taken a back by the pungent green patchouli. To me it smelled like a sweaty armpit or simply just body odor! I could not stand a minute of it, why would anyone want to smell like that was beyond me, isn't that exactly what one is trying to mask by wearing a perfume? Oddly enough, my mom did not find this unpleasant in fact she said I smelled wonderful ugh(is this like the dress thing where people can smell totally different things?). The dry down turns it into a more smoky, sweet, caramel like patchouli which is very very nice. Too bad I have to endure 1 hours of pure pain just to get there, the more I wear it the more I like it, it kind of grows on you. Excellent longevity and sillage, one spray is enough to leave a scent trail wherever you pass by and if you stay long enough it will leave a remanent sillage. As with the other Profumum perfumes, this has the signature Profumum DNA of myrrh and incense that is not always shown in the breakdown. Update I don't know why but this reminds me so much of the famous Dior Homme Intense. Update Moving it from 'like' to 'love'. To put it simple, if you love DHI you MUST try Patchouly. It doesn't have that many notes but it is more rich and warm.

Profumum Roma - Patchouli! One of the most beautiful patchouli ever created. The perfumes of this Italian niche house are on another level, enveloping you overwhelmingly, with a permanent, suffocating and addictive presence! Guys, here we have a complete patchouli: green, camphorous, extremely chocolatey, balsamic and earthy with a gorgeous resinous and woody base. The technical qualities are excellent and I recommend all patchouli perfume lovers to try it! Although the juice inside is superb, the technical qualities are undeniable and I dare say that it is one of the most nuclear houses, which offers a persistence of more than 14 hours on your skin, but I can't help but notice the extremely cheap bottles and the atomizer system so bad and cheap! In fact, all the Profumum Roma bottles that I have owned had the problem that the perfume leaked past the atomizer collar, without explanation, due to the fact that it doesn't screw in perfectly as it should! Those who own bottles from them can confirm if this is a general thing or just a specific issue! Thank you!

#1499 in my "Tour de Fragrance" This is the first time I have encountered a patchouli-focused scent that has just amazed me like this one. I don't believe the notes listed here. Scents Angel's list is more believable. Top Notes: Bergamot, Orange, Heart Notes: Patchouli, Amber, Base Notes: Sandalwood, Musk, Vanilla. Sometimes patchouli can come off like cacao as it does here. I mean damn! this stuff is top shelf quality and a great scent. It's not as rosey and floral as Jovoy "Psychedelique." Montale "Patchouli Leaves" is closer. But while it's not sweet, I swear I smell a praline in there, some candy bar from childhood. If there were a coconut note it would come off like a "Zagnut" bar to me. Long-lasting and strong sillage. Go easy, especially in close spaces. Too oily to spray your clothes. More a date scent than something for business and casual use. At $275 and up, definitely get a decant and try before you buy..

One of my favorite patchoulis on the market. This is such a warm, dark, sensual fragrance. It showcases patchouli in all its facets: slightly medicinal, slightly dirty, woody and balmy with a visceral almost chewy richness. The amber is a prominent supporting note in this perfume (though it is not particularly sweet so much as resinous), the sandalwood and incense are much less prominent. I love wearing this to unwind at the end of the day as its so warm and enveloping. Absolutely unisex and a great fragrance for a couple to share. That is, IF you are willing to share. ;) ETA: beware, this is highly concentrated and will stain your skin and clothes so apply carefully.

As a patch lover, this is dreamy. Reminds me of the bottles of patchouli oil I'd go through in the 80's, for very cheap I might add. This is old school patchouli on me. Camphorous, slightly mentholated, earthy and sweet. This is very linear on me, the incense and amber are background players that may help round it out, but it's just straight patchouli to my nose. It's the closest perfume I've found that smells like the patchouli I fell in love with as a kid in the 70's. Highly recommend if you loved patchouli oil from that time period. I guess this is the "dirty hippie" smell that so many seem to hate, but it's pure ambrosia to my nose.

This is a Great Patchouli Perfume, Earthy, Dark, Smoky and Resinous. It was launched in 2004 ,Before Jovoy Psychedelique but I prefer Psychedelique, Because Psychedelique is more Complex from the opening up to the dry down. If you like Psychedelique, You will like this one. I tried it in store and I received a sample of that. It opens up with a bit bitter smoky, Incense-y Patchouli, then dry down is semi sweet Ambery and Woody with vanilla Dark chocolate vibe undertone. It is perfect for cold weather. I really enjoy it and It is on my Radar. Longevity is very good. Two Thumbs Up. Bravo Profumum Roma ! Rating : 9 / 10

Shimmering, gorgeous, resinous Patchouli ambrosia. Oh how I love you Profumum, makers of simple, natural and beautifully blended scent follows their usual formula: to keep things pure and simple. Here natural earthy patchouli extract is blended with just 3 more ingredients: amber, sandalwood and incense. The resulting juice is simply divine, a beautiful and austere patchouli fragrance that simply glows the moment it lands on skin. Unisex, with moderate to strong projection and absolutely long lasting, Patchouli lovers and those into orientals absolutely need to try this one. Pure Nirvana. Enjoy!

Best performing patchouli on me by far, absolutely nuclear if over sprayed. A little pricy but this is a case of you get what you pay for. And it smells exactly like what I picture patchouli should smell like, which is to say it reminds me of the time when Jerry was still with us, but more sophisticated. I get an anis accord that I really like. Currently in a three way tie for gold along with Perris Monte Carlo Patchouli Nosy Be and L'Eau des Immortels Voyages Imaginaires. All three are different enough to warrant a bottle of each and perform so well that I do.

This is the most stunning patchouli fragrance I have ever smelled. I ordered a few samples from Profumum Roma and I was going through them, as you do. I put this on skin, and let me tell you the drydown of this fragrance is absolutely amazing. It's earthy, it has the perfect touch of ambery sweetness, it's woody, it's chocolatey, it's..... patchouli! I'd take this over Psychedelique, Reminiscence Patchouli, the whole lot. Comes off quite strong and has good sillage for being so heavily concentrated. Careful on the sprays.

Sadly, patchouli as a note has a bad rep outside of the community. At least for me, patchouli was the oil that hippies (showing my age) wore. The fragrance you could smell on the other side of the K-Mart. One of the wonderful discoveries for me was learning that patchouli was not what I was raised to believe. This is a chocolate, woody patchouli fragrance that smells AMAZING. There is some incense and amber in there, but the patchouli is center stage and the star. Another wonderful offering from this house.

Patchouly Profumum Roma is a rich, gorgeous patchouli/amber scent. The patchouli is earthy, musty, medicinal, and intense, however it is balanced with a full sensual amber, which develops into ambergris (as mentioned by the previous reviewer). The amber note is sweet and buttery-rich, and is the perfect foil for the not-so-tame patch. Also, a little goes a long way; the juice is so rich and concentrated that one spray is lethal. My nose is glued to my wrist. 9/10

Every time I try to focus on other brands, Profumum Roma just shows me why they are my favourite house, and a house everyone else is copying but unsuccessfully. So this came out in 2004 and Chanel Coromandel in 2007 and this is such a big brother to Coromandel I feel, and also Jovoy Psychedelique tries to be in the same ball park but this has so much more depth and range and just makes everything else weak and mild after smelling Profumum's Patchouly

This gets compared to Psychedelique, but to my nose the latter is heavily spiced, whereas Patchouly is more singular and almost mentholated in the opening--green, camphorous, chocolatey. The typical amber-and-vanilla combo found in many of PR's offerings emerges in the drydown. So enjoyable. Longevity and sillage are moderate, though I received several compliments shortly after applying. The best patchouli I've ever smelled, easily.

I simply adore this one and it's in my top five patchouli scents. Rich, decadent and earthy. It's too much for me at first. It has a stank about it for twenty minutes or so. But the middle and dry-down are divine. It's sweet, smooth, a bit terpenic, which I have to admit I love, and so polished but raw and sexy at the same time. Also very comforting. Great for colder weather and sweaters. Lasts forever.

I have owned this for a few months now and it is hands down my favorite frag in my 200+ collection. It is a very chocolatey patchouli the smells heavenly. It last 24+ hours and has to be washed off. I get a ton of very favorable compliments as well. I own Jovoy Psychedelic and Maison Crivelli Patchouli Magnetik both of which I truly love. Profumum Roma Patchouly beats them hands down.

What an amazing sophisticated Patchouly. Very dry, natural and absolutely raw! And a very very chocolatey Patchouly. I enjoy the chocolate aspect of it the most. Its very unusual to me. Not the screamy teen goth patchouly oil you wear when you were young :) So people who are afraid of this kind of smell should give this one a try. For me the best Patchouly out there.

When I have this on hand, I wear it daily. Straightforward with subtle complexity. Powerful chewy, minty opening. Not a damp or aggressive patch scent; very comforting, warm, and lightly sweet. Lasting notes of chocolate and occasional wisps of incense on the dry down and a hum of amber in the background. A super approachable and comfy wear. Top-notch patchouli.

This reminds me of a much richer version of Amber and Patchouli from Jo Malone. I knew when I sampled this it smelled familiar but I couldn't place it until I revisited the JM scent. This one is much more robust. While walking my dog last night as the cool breeze would pass, the smell was simply intoxicating. I'll definitely purchase a full bottle of this.

The no-bs approach of Profumum Roma really just works wonders on patchouli it turns out. Not quite a soliflore but the illusion is so well done, you'd come away thinking pure patch is this earthy and opulent. Up there with Borneo. If I ever wake up tired of this hobby, I would just spread a single spray of this on myself daily and go on about my life.

Smoked chocolatey patchouli, opens very green and earthy, gets more powdery as it dries on my skin. Very strong, creates a solid cocoon around the body that lasts all day. Autumn and winter only, just needs a bit of body heat. I can see the comparison to Reminiscence's Patchouli, but that one has a more noticeable vanilla note than this.

What to add more about this awesome patchouly fragrance than that what is already written! One of the very best ambers, it's up there with Grand Soir i think, but that patchouly is just amazing... This is an earthy, vanillic ambery, very creamy, just a bit woody patch scent. Performance is unreal....Wow, just wow!!! Totally FB worthy. 96

Camphorous dirt, with a rich sweet amber/sandalwood base. Smokey undertones. Sounds simple, but once it is on your skin, you will understand how complex it is The sweet incensy amber keeps this one from devolving into the rancid "dirty hippy" peppery patchouly oil we've all smelled before.. Super projector. Unbelievably high quality.

The upgraded version of Jovoy Psychedelique. Have a batch from 2008, can’t comment on current batches. And oh lord, is it a beauty! Very heavy and dark patchouli, with a dark chocolate lurking in the base. Crazy longevity and projection, about 15 hours and projects massively. One of my favourite scents ever.

I find this full bottle worthy! Amazing deep, earthy patchouli scent. I applied it on my wrist, and about 5 minutes later I put on my smartwatch with a leather band. I can still smell it when my wrist is close to my face, 2 weeks later! This scent last long, but is not offensive in my opinion. I love it.

Im a man as well and i wear this with out a problem :) . It is actually one of my favorites and my lady loves this on me not that it matters .Its a quality perfume with an amazing aroma without gender borders ,If you like a fragrance rock it be it for male or female if you can pull it off that is ;)

Beautiful and well blended fragrance for Amber and Patchouli lovers. If you love Patchouli based fragrances you will definitely love this one. Starts off very strong with dirty Patchouli scent but it soons settles into enjoyable scent. Will definitely be getting a bottle of this one

Not for everyone, but I love it. Amber and patchouly stick out with a little incense. Decent sillage and excelleny longevity. I'd grade this an A but again, not for everyone, especially if you like lighter, flowery fragrances.

After almost 10 years later of collecting frags, I have yet to find another patchouli fragrance that I enjoy more than this. Nothing beats the Patch when it comes to patchouli scents. Simple, strong and sexy.

Wearing it today from the generous sample I got from Essenza Nobile. I'm going crazy! How sophisticated and luxurious this is. Very similar, but with that power in longevity is way better than Coromandel IMO.

Complex and beastly, but just too earthy-chocolate for my taste in patchouli. Maybe it'll grow on me over time. The best patchouli frags for me hands down are either Moods by Krizia or Tempo by Diptyque.

Amber patchouli with a camphorous edge. Sophisticated, dry, and bit austere. I prefer this on a man rather than on myself, but women with other tastes could easily wear it. Fantastic!

I own many fragrances from this house and this is one of my favorite. Very versatile for any occasion and it is currently my signature scent.

My perfume smells like...Burning Leaves!

My initial impression of this perfume after couple of minutes after application is reminiscent of drying herbs in an old barn, as well as the aroma of burning dried meadow, likely due to the presence of incense. At first, I detected a hint of sweetness, but it quickly receded into the background. Although I thought there might be vanilla, I couldn't find it listed as a note. During the first 20 minutes of further testing, it evoked a caramel-like scent (amber) infused with herbal notes, second testing gives me feeling of sweet whiskey. This combination of ingredients gives off a smoky tuberose impression, despite the absence of any listed floral notes. (sometimes I feel crazy, is this perfume playing games with my senses when I smell scents that aren't really there?) Having tried a few patchouli-based perfumes, I can't say with certainty what pure patchouli smells like, but this fragrance is definitely the best patchouli perfume I've encountered. In some way, this scent brings to mind a summer meadow with fireplace in europen style or even a chamomile-infused sauna somehow . After about 5 hours, the perfume starts to change to a serious masculine scent, when you run your fingers over the application site, it still smells like it did at the beginning, but the projection starts to smell different, I can't specify exactly how, it's a rich, masculine, beautiful scent. What I appreciate most about Profumum perfumes is the high quality of their natural and “oily” compositions. What is the biggest plus of this brand is that perfumes are composed of only a few ingredients, but they can provide multiple positions, develop into multiple shades of one and the same scent. As time goes on, I may expand upon this review and present it as a story—an enjoyable narrative that captures my experiences with various perfumes from this brand. So final revisit is: its complete unisex dry coca patchouli.

So, I'm going through a phase (I suppose) where I wish to try patchouli-forward fragrances once again. I LOVE patchouly as a perfume note but only if it is well blended with other notes. I purchased a large decant of Profumum Patchouly along with Jovoy Psychedelique. I sampled Jovoy many years back and decided to give it another try (along with Profumum). Frankly, side-by-side upon INITIAL application, I cannot tell the two fragrances apart. To my nose, Patchouly Profumum opens with a slightly "greener" vegetal note than Jovoy (which I assume may be the cannabis note). This perfume is BIG, patchouli forward, rather linear and quite nice. Anything ethereal or shrill quickly passes and Patchouly lands as a huge amber-y patchouli bomb. Earthy, dark, thick, dirty, resinous and brooding. I do detect something syrupy (like honeyed-amber) but anything other than dense patchouli is fleeting. Now, the DRYDOWN is where I smell a notable difference between the two fragrances. Unlike Psychedelique, which lands as a big vanilla-musk bomb, Profumum morphs into an ethereal, veil-like, powdery, smooth sandalwood. Just wish there was some smokiness to this fragrance 'cause then it might be near perfect. I like the perfume but I am disappointed because I do not think it is full bottle-worthy (as I hoped). Will give it a few more tries but at this price point, I think I will only own this in small samples, if at all.

Patchouly is one of the most patchouli-dominant scents I’ve tried if I’m honest. The patchouli in here is very dark, earthy and masculine with subtle green nuances. It’s got a slightly damp and vegetal vibe to it which is definitely captivating and unique, but not very mass appealing - it’s definitely a scent to stand out with. There’s a soft, smooth and sweet woody amber in the background which provides some warmth, whilst a dry and smoky incense contrast this brutally. To me, this scent conjures imagery of a burning, smouldering wood cabin hidden deep in a dense woodland, with a storm brewing in the distance starting to dampen the black soil beneath your feet. Overall this scent is very impressive. As usual with Profumum Roma the quality is fantastic and the scent boasts an impressively high oil concentration. Whilst I can appreciate the skill behind this scent, unfortunately the patchouli is simply too intense for me so this isn’t something I would wear for myself.

Patchouli is here paired with a strong note of amber (labdanum, vanilla, hints of benzoin and frankincense)- not what I expected with the frag's title. Still, a pleasant-enough blend... I believe I detect a subtle note of pine which vibes well with the terpene top-side of patchouli (calling to mind another frag in the line, 'Thundra'), and a touch of black pepper and cinnamon, perhaps? It works- a handful of naturally-complex, beautiful notes- high-quality and concentration... ... however... I don't find Patchouly as well-balanced and stunningly-original in effect as some of the house's other offerings: I would prefer the amber to be toned down just a wee bit, with perhaps a bit of oakmoss or vetiver to contrast the inherent sweetness of the oriental base with a bit of dryness... The note of amber is obviously an obsession with one of the noses, and it works well for so many of their scents, but in this context I find it a bit smothering.

Let's be honest: for a lot of the development of this perfume it smells essentially indistinguishable from if you just diluted some really nice patchouli oil and sprayed it on yourself. That may or may not be what you're looking for. Personally, for the price of a Profumum scent and the hype this is getting I think I was expecting a bit more. Considering that you can buy a kilo of very fine patchouli essential oil for about the same price as a bottle of this, this is almost to patchouli what Molecule 01 is to ISO E Super. In the dry down, sandalwood and a sweet, vanillic amber join the patchouli. The amber is to my nose close to overwhelming the patchouli. Nice, but nothing to write home about.

I'm rapidly becoming a Profvmvm Roma fanboi :-) . Wore this today for the first time and really enjoyed it. The opening hits you pretty good - it has that raw patch to it - but as it quiets down the juice gets sweeter and the amber/sandalwood comes through. To my nose, I smell chocolate/cocoa and vanilla in the mid and base notes - though they aren't listed. The incense is awfully minimal here and doesn't seem to last through the drydown. More unisex IMO than some of the unisex patch's are. Lots of them go too sweet to counter the raw patch (silly rabbits!). I don't get that from this juice. It hasn't unseated CDG's LUXE Patchouli as my favorite patch, but it's quality stuff IMO.

This is the kind of patchouly where if you forget you are wearing it, a decadent waft of dark chocolate rises mischievously to remind you. It goes on a little musty at first, but as the heart emerges, it becomes a deep, woody, chocolate patchouli, which I find slightly more masculine than feminine. This makes it feel a little naughty to me, being that it's just on the cusp of what I think I can get away with wearing. If the incense note was more dominant, I think it would be even better, but that might also make it a little more feminine. It's great for Autumn, and I certainly want it! It also feels well-crafted. :)

Real Deal Patchouli For all the modern, polished, anemic patchouli out there, watch out, this is the real deal. This is raw, camphorous, bitter stuff. I love it. Real earth patchouli. Eventually the base notes appear, whopping dose of incense and beautiful sandalwood, vanilla, amber, the supporting notes make this so rounded, almost chewy in texture, and becomes almost sweet as it wears. Lovely, beautifully blended, excellent sillage (almost too much! This can be suffocating) and longevity. If you can afford this, what an awesome patchouli. Reminds me also of Chanel Coromandel and Serge Lutens Borneo 1834.
