Vir

I’ve lived with Vir for over a month now and managed to put a good dent in the bottle but it’s only now that I feel like I really understand it enough to write a decent review. The best word to describe Vir is comforting. It wears much like a favorite pair of jeans. I reach for it on quiet days where I might be feeling a bit world weary or when I need something soothing and comforting to rehabilitate with. The scent is soft, sweet, woody and smoky, in that order. The cannabis accord is lightly fruity and floral, an aromatic quality that doesn’t smell much like actual cannabis to me. The way it combines with the tabacco reminds me more of sweetened tea than narcotics. The woods are likewise warm and round. Nothing here is sharp or demanding of attention, no heavy spices or citrus openings. The smoke might be a sticking point for some, it has a slightly sweet petrol quality to it, (this might be what others describe as licorice) it’s not ashy or at all like a bbq, or aggressive like in A City On Fire. I suppose it is some sort of incense smoke, but more hippi than church. Don’t get the idea that this is a headshop fragrance though, it’s much more refined than that. I feel that smoke is what makes it lean slightly masculine to me. The performance is very solid, typical of the brand, and it projects lightly for much of it, even more than some of their bolder fragrances. It also smells really nice in clothes the day after. Vir is unlikely to light the fragrance world on fire; it’s too subtle and vague for that perhaps, but it’s a strong recommendation to anyone looking for a slightly unusual but still comforting and relaxing fragrance.

Quite the honour to leave the first review for this magnificent work of art. Starting with the chosen name, "Vir", which means "man" in Latin, this fragrance emanates power. There's an important distinction to be made here: it is far from meaningless, capital POWER, and more about the power to love, to be vulnerable, to be responsible, to be courageous. This fragrance is a journey. The journey starts with a top note of cannabis, the initial dullness of senses, that prepares you for what is to come next. It then moves on to the rich, warm tobacco leaves, supported by the sandalwood, brilliantly tempered by the cooling, mothball-like smell of cedar: sleepless nights, absinthe, smoky pubs, long talks, sins. Growing up christian, my mind links incense and the smokiness of oud to the church’s function as a sin cleanser. You allow yourself to repent for the sins that you performed in the 2-3h until mid notes dissipate. Vir is to men as men are to life: indispensable. "Here, in front of my infinity, I’m finally ME!" My favourite so far, 10/10. P.S. I feel like I should discuss the similarities between Vir and Black Afgano as I own both: they are indeed very similar. While Black Afgano is sweeter due to the resins & coffee and is too intoxicating for its own good, Vir entices you to keep your head cool through the cedar mid note.

My first thought when I put this on was that it smells like Wind Song with maple syrup. However, if I sniff closely, that maple syrup scent is mixed in with tobacco. And the powderiness that is reminding me of Wind Song has a bit of splintery wood in it. The overall presence is a slightly sweet and very powdery one. I cannot detect cannabis, which is fine by me. I suppose the powderiness has a slight incense bent to it, but that's not what it makes me think of. I was surprised to see so many people think it's more of a masculine fragrance. But I think it must have to do with the fact that a lot of people connect it with Black Afghano, which I've never smelled. The fact that I'm connecting it to a fragrance my mom used to wear in the 1980s probably has a bearing on me finding it more feminine. So, I guess, it goes in the middle into unisex territory. On first sniff, I didn't think I liked it, but it's really growing on me. I think it's probably best for a cool day in fall or winter, where it can be a comforting fragrance.

What an interesting fragrance. It’s hard to find any reviews of this. I didn’t know what a “cannabis” note would smell like, and to me it doesn’t smell like marijuana smoke. It is chewy and resinous like other Profumum Roma fragrances I’ve liked, like Ambra Aurea and Arso, but not as dark, with tobacco as the main note to me. A sweet tobacco, but not cloying or gourmand. I don’t get any fecal or barnyard scents that I sometimes associate with oud. In fact, if oud wasn’t listed as a note I wouldn’t have known it’s supposed to be here. This is no overwhelming smoke like Profumum’s Fumidus is. It’s much more wearable and the two are nothing alike and I’m not sure why I thought they’d be similar. This might be my favorite tobacco scent I’ve tried so far. Yes, more than Luten’s Fumerie Turque, which seemed nice but feminine. More than Tauer’s Sundowner, which had too much cinnamon. I’m waiting on a sample of Rania J’s T. Habanero and Lutens’s Ecrin de Fumee to compare it with.

I heard someone says it smells similar to Duro? Remind me to never try Duro. I'm not trying to be petty. I consider myself pretty open minded. That's how much I dislike this fragrance. The same attributes apply however. It's exceptional in how it's made. It's still my favorite fragrance house of all time. I just can't do it. I think it's the first fragrance where my body chemistry interferes. Last night I put on Confetto and I still have remnants of it on my skin. One positive outcome is today has reaffirmed how much I love Confetto and how much I appreciate the fragrances I own currently. Did I mention I love this brand? Ha ha. That's why hurts so much for me to say I really dislike Vir. You know you have a sickness when you want to purchase something just to say you have it and can smell it every once in a while and say you don't like it. Does that mean I subconsciously DO like it? Is there something wrong with me? Where is my wallet. Help.

To me, this is a cozy, comforting, warmly clean fragrance. Straight up unisex, to my nose, I would wear with jeans, sandals and a white t-shirt in the spring and summer and a cozy cashmere sweater in the cooler days. The cannabis note would have scared me if I hadn’t smelled this perfume first. On skin, no skunkiness, just a fuzzy, gentle, green sweetness.

Don't let the bad rating (3.90 at the moment) fool you. This is certainly one of the good Profumum Romas. It's a unique soft-spicy masculine scent with very good performance; 100% worth a sample in my opinion. Scent 8/10 Performance 8,5/10 Versatility 8/10

I changed my mind. I like it now. I purchased a full bottle. That's what happens sometimes.

Once I was smoking a pipe tobacco made primarily of a blend of dark virginias and at a certain point I detected a note that wasn't only a nutty note, but something clearer than that and I visualised the heart of a nut in its essence while smoking that tobacco. "Through the smoke". Unusual maybe, but true. Here, through the smoke, pro fumum, through this scent by the roman perfume house I'm visualizing a humid, naturally bittersweet, nicotinic, tobacco leaf lying in the sun. Warm yellow gold and reach sunny orange. Zero cannabis. Some smoke. A very linear, natural composition made with few elements in a solid, artisanal way. Like an ancient roman road. A lot of great scents by other houses can have a more complex evolution and can be more multifaceted, but sometimes you can feel the "human touch", or the tecnical touch, of the perfumer a bit too much. On the contrary this scent is simpler, more linear and blends with your skin letting only the natural ingredients talk. The language of PROFVMVM ROMA isn't particularly artistic or literary. Is artisanal and very pleasing. Performance with this scent is moderate, but good enough. This is a perfume that you wear for yourself, not because you want to say to the world how you feel or what's you mood. You wear it because you like it. It's a tobacco leaf after all. But one of the best. Straight. Clear. Simple. Very male. Very VIR.

#1823 in my “Tour de Fragrance” Got this decant from scentsplit.com. There are a a number of scents like this one. Ones I know about like Nasomato “Black Afgano.” Tigha “The Dark Side.” LPDO “Hash Intense.” Cheapies like Privezarah “Blend Afgano”, Louis Cardin “Oud Forever”, and my top choice, Le Chameau “Arabia Black Aromato.” I’m guessing many more that I don’t know about like this among the dozens of cannabis scents out there. But a note that seems common among many cannabis scents, coffee, is missing from this Profumum Roma scent. That said, while all the notes here are common in the other cannabis scents, this scent smells more like a soft wood, more pine oil, with enough cedar in the dry down to remind me of pencil shavings. But I do not smell cannabis and only a hint of tobacco. It’s a likable scent that I think is workable for business or date wear, and pretty good quality, but a ridiculous price. And if you already have their “Arso” it’s pretty similar. And there are tons of scents that come off like this that are substantially less expensive. This is very close to Daniel Josier “Kaleidoscope”, also not a cannabis scent, but a great greeney you can find for under $90 that I’d grab rather than dropping few hundred on this. And if you really want a cannabis scent, get the Le Chameau I mentioned. It’s under $30. Good Luck and Good Hunting!

That is so concentrated! You spray it and it doesn’t evaporate, it’s a lot of oil. There’s just an oily stain. Now. Smoky oud? What are you, hehe, smoking, people?there is oud here, but it’s clean, woody, not dark, bitter, smoky. Cannabis? A bit like the one you’d find in Black Afgano but these perfumes are world apart, I’m not comparing. Not much of it and gone soon. It does remind me of a more airy, more natural and double the concentration of Duro. Leathery, sandalwoody? masculine perfume for anytime except summer. Performance: yes.

Warm, sweet and inviting woody aromatic scent. The opening is a sweet narcotic cannabis note surrounded by a nice Australian sandalwood and cedar with a slight hint of tobacco. As the perfume dries off, one gets notes of incense and Hindi Oud. The masculine leaning scent, like most offerings of this line is mostly natural and has fairly linear development, with moderate to strong sillage and good longevity. Well done, if not hugely original (many nods to Micallef’s Osswald Man). Enjoy!

I blind bought this and while it's good I wish I didn't. The love of this brand kind of overtook my common sense. It's voted as a lot like Duro, but I'd say its 90% Black Afghano. I guess I should have paid more attention to that Cannabis note. It's drier and woodier than Black Afghano, but for all intents if you own one you don't need the other. A bit of a dissapointment in terms of originality but it's a solid masculine fragrance.

Opens like a screechy version of Black Afgano; dries down to Electimuss Gladiator Oud. There's a fruitiness and a hay-like immortelle in the top and mid, despite the absence of any such notes in the pyramid. Good enough, but redundant if you own either of the other two.

It smells nice but is very oily and it stains the clothes so i got rid of it

it's ok, not among the best of the house whatsoever. i already got black afgano and they are quite similar..abit different proportions but having both is quite redundant to me, especially given the price

People say it looks like a black afgano, but it's probably very similar to Nasomato Duro.

Just picked up a decant of this from Scent Split. I found Profumum Roma via Ambra Aurea after hunting for a good reference amber. Since then I have tried several others of theirs - Sandalum, Arso, and Fumidus. This, then, is my fifth scent from them. A couple immediate perspectives on Profumum Roma - they make potent fragrances which are viscous and rich. The ingredients always smell natural and I have found projection, sillage, and longevity to be consistently very good. I don't think they are projection monsters but then, you wouldn't want these scents to be. Vir is no different - so on the basis of performance and quality I will say it achieves the highest marks a niche fragrance can attain. The scent immediately reminded me of another fragrance I haven't smelled for a few years - O Unknown! by Imaginary Authors. There is a certain, orris-y and narcotic sweetness here and a waxiness - maybe the cannabis mixed with tobacco notes. There is a creaminess with some volume that I imagine is the sandalwood. There is also an earthy, subdued, root beer-like smell which I interpret as the woody notes. Overall, I really enjoy this and I think a previous review summarized it well in saying this isn't an exciting fragrance - but it smells cozy and good.I find it's strong and nuanced enough to keep me coming back for more. Definitely recommend folks to sample and see for themselves!

A bit different than what the notes say. You woud expect a dry oud bomb. But, the oud here is not dirty and dry, instead it's more like a western oud like in Oud Wood or Gucci Intense Oud. And then it has a proeminent sweet-myrrh-amber-balsamic note that's well-blended with the clean oud. It's been like 7-8 years since I tested M7 Oud Absolu, but that's what get instantly on my mind when sniffing Vir. Maybe it's wise to check the YSL first, before getting this one. 4/5

Did I get a mislabeled sample? Because this smells exactly like they mixed Arso with Thvndra. It’s just a pine accord leading into a patchouli accord. Not bad but nothing special. I don’t get anything remotely similar to Black Afghano. Also, considering the price and scent profile, it only lasted half the work day. By 3pm, I couldn’t find a trace of it. And there aren’t too many patchouli and woody amber scents that peter out like that. 1 out of 5.

Tragically I get 0 cannabis. It's all a tabacco smokiness that is clearly very well crafted but not at all for me. More on the masc side but could definitely be worn by anyone. Very, very strong. Where to wear: definitely not anywhere around people sensitive to fragrance!

Sweet liquorice, sandalwood (the type Profumum likes to use that smells like cedarwood more than anything), campfire smoke and a hint of wet dog. Closest resemblance to another perfume would be Black Afgano and I really dislike that one.

If your weed supplier let you smell his stash, you’d reject it. No bud, all stems with some tobacco mixed in. Will this give you a high? Well, the woods are well done and it’s not an average frag, so give it a go.
