Cypress & Vetiver

A well blended, easy to wear fragrance. The only accord I can positively identify is the vetiver/cypress combo and some citrus. Based on the notes if should be similar to Encre Noir Sport but it is not. Cypress & Vetyver has a very smooth and balanced feel from the first spray to the dry down. It lasts on my skin for over 8 hours with minimal projection and low silage. The composition is quite resistant to other scents in the environment without overpowering them. making it a good choice wearing in public when I don't want to draw attention. I am somewhat disappointed that I can't get a matching liquid aftershave.

Proraso has entered the cologne market and this is one of the of the three releases in the Proraso Single Blade Line. The other two are Wood & Spice and Azur Lime. A hallmark of the Proraso fragrance lines is that they all have the traits of smelling clean and fresh. Cypress & Vetyver is no exception. Wearing this does have a reminiscent effect, like you've just showered and shaved or walked out of a high end barbershop. The nice blend of green woods works quite well and I see this having "mass appeal". When I refer to this as having mass appeal, I'm not referring to it in the sense that it's so common that everyone seems to be wearing it, like a Bleu de Chanel, Dior Sauvage or Gio, I say it the sense that it's extremely versatile and would seem to be at least an overall "like" to a wide range of people. This is an excellent fragrance for a casual outing with friends or as an office fragrance, however, if you're wearing it to the office, go light. Two sprays max should do it for that location. A third spray really seems to amp this fragrance up. Projection is average to maybe slightly above average and longevity, for me, is at least 6 hours with two sprays, although I get whiffs of it for at least 2-3 hours afterward. In terms of strength and projection for the Proraso Single Blade Line, I'd rank them in this order: 1) Wood & Spice 2) Cypress & Vetyver and 3) Azur Lime.

I have all three of the Proraso colognes now and here's what I think. Cypress & Vetiver I place in the middle. Decent scent and longevity with sillage just okay. Wood & Spice is strongest with greater longevity and sillage, my wife likes, but I'm not keen on the scent due to it's inclusion of vanilla. Azur Lime, my favorite, while having lesser longevity and sillage, has a very pleasant "barbershop scent" which is one of my go to types of fragrances. These bottles usually run $36 each at C.O. Bigelow or elsewhere online, and I recently scored one for $30 on eBay. Best wishes!

Proraso Cypress&Vetiver... ...I really do enjoy Proraso products in general as a passionate wet shaver. This cologne seems to be basic to many but i think it is important to see it in the context of it being a barber product. For a cologne it is long lasting and very well blended. What I get from it is a soft citric opening which very quickly shifts to a quite linear woody and green cypress and smoky dry vetiver. It is a good quality barber cologne which i use as an EdT every now and then which last between 4 to 6 hours.

This was a surprise, it's way darker, greener, and earthier than I expected. Smells like a well groomed lumberjack OR gardener. 6/10

#701 in my "Tour de Fragrance" For a $10 dollar cologne this performs surprisingly well. I'm not a fan of synthetic bergamot oil. Makes me sneeze and gives me a runny nose for few minutes. This wasn't too bad but I gave it away nonetheless. As everyone has noted, this is similar to Encre Noir for $10. I can't wear that one either and gave it away as well. But I realize it has fans and this will save you some shekels.

when you're a skilled vampire, forget about your encre noire and get you this one. this is hell of a earthy, almost muddy vetiver, very dark. 6/10

Generic, fresh, and forgettable.

Encre Noir clone (weird that someone would like to copy one of the most affordable fragrances, so I suspect it is more of a coincidence than intent). That can be a good or a bad thing depending on which side of the Love & Hate relationship with Lalique’s polarizing creation do you find yourself. For me EN is a big no no, so unfortunately I cannot like or support Proraso either. Though I find it slightly more palatable and polished, it’s existence is hard to justify.

i tried the beardwash version of this recently and i did not care for the scent. to me, it smelled like an old person

Standard Woody Cologne (2017) After discovering Wood and Spice, the beautiful Oriental creation from Proraso, I became interested in their other releases. Like Wood and Spice, Cypress and Vetyver was also released as the part of Single Blade Collection which was apparently now already discontinued. While Wood and Spice was complete surprise, Cypress & Vetyver was a somehow expected standard cologne. Cypress & Vetyver almost does what its name implies. It opens up with some citrus note that instantly becomes greener. Although mentioned in the name, the cypress note is very mild and almost completely hidden by the green vetiver. The vetiver is also soft, clean and with just a touch of smoke. After an hour, the woody cedar with a pinch of Iso E Super becomes dominant. The dominance of cedar upon vetiver is accompanied at the end by the pale sweetness of the base. Cypress & Vetyver is a very straightforward creation. It is clean, simple and easy to wear. In my opinion, it resembles the great Mark Buxton’s creation Vettiveru for Comme des Garcons. However, while Vettiveru was a long lasting vetiver cologne with character, Cypress and Vetyver is a shy girl with longevity up to 2 hours. Still, Proraso launched a nice EdC for short term refreshment, but essentially nothing to write home about. Rating: 6/10

My main reason for purchasing this was so that I would have a cologne to use after shaving and using aftershave balm where the scents weren't battling one another. I picked up the shaving cream and aftershave balm of the same scent. I haven't used up my existing supply but I tested out the cologne just to get an idea of the scent, as it was a blind buy. I like the fragrance and it seems great for pretty much any time of year, day or night. But I don't see myself using it outside of my plan to follow-up my shaves with it. It's definitely unique, but in terms of longevity it doesn't perform as a stand alone fragrance to work as a signature scent.

Well, it won't blow your mind. However, it is very very good. In a sense, that yeah it has the good old Encre Noir DNA, half as loud, long lasting, and most importantly very affordable. I recently tried Essential Perfumes' Mon Vetiver which costs 5 times as much. While wearing it my first thought was, yeah it is nice, but I have smelled similar before. So unless you are a niche/designer Vetiver collector and lover, there is no need to blow big bucks on another Encre Noir brother/sister when a fantastic inexpensive option like this is available. Final verdict: perfect, get it. 10/10: price, value, performance, quality, smell.

This is pleasant enough. But it's light... The vetiver is very similar to Encre Noire indeed. Wear this if you want to smell like Encre Noire but you know you have to escape some pack hounds in 20 minutes or so. By then, the scent will be gone...

more tam dao than encre noir, but very nice indeed. if you're looking for a cheaper tam dao edt, this is a contender.

Class in a bottle. Good performance for a Cologne. 8/10
