Ginger Lily

About a year ago, Providence Perfume made news in the perfume blogosphere as one of the "outlaw" perfumers that were ignoring IFRA regulations. If you're not familiar with these regs, they outright ban certain perfume ingredients known to cause skin rashes in a miniscule percentage of the population. Never mind that a warning label suffices when it comes to food items or household products that contain potential allergens; if you're a perfume lover, you're screwed. Providence and other natural perfumers decided to treat the IFRA as the rubbish that it is, and Ginger Lily is one of their offerings that I was fortunate enough to sample via Fragrantica. Ginger Lily is a complex, boozy oriental floral that opens with burst of piquant ginger, pepper and clove that is balanced against the freshness of bitter orange and some lush mango. The top notes are so big and bold that they filled the whole house when I was testing GL. The spices are then rounded and softened by the floral heart, and finished with a flourish of warm cognac and amber. A must-try for lovers of ginger-centric perfumes.

well well well. the opening is all about ginger, indeed, no sweetness, in your face :) some traces of lily as well. Surprisingly, with time it evolves into a sweeter, almost gourmand composition with cognac, amber and mango starring and ginger giving a naughty wink. honestly, I found it hard to discern the flowers, they all seem to mellow together and add a little subtlety to this fragrance, saving it from being sticky sweet, which is a major plus to me. All in all, it is a mouthwatering fragrance yet does not ever go over the line to become sticky, jammy or cloying, stays well balanced. I am glad that I bought a travel size of this yummieness. I would have to force myself to find a similar fragrance, yet I believe those who like Frapin 1270 or PG Lounges Profanes would embrace this ginger-hearted liquor :)

Hot fiery dragon's breath that opens with black pepper, sharp, fresh ginger and a hint of clove and bitter orange peel--very strong, natural and masculine to start. The ferocity recoils a little as the flowers soften the composition, but the spicy heat remains: ylang-ylang and rose are subtly discernable as the main player is always ginger. Cognac delivers an enigmatic swirl of inebriation into the spiraling tendrils of hot smoke. As Ginger Lily continues to evolve, the mango's fleshy character makes way without too much of its inherent scent. Copahu (copaiba balsam) isn't overly present either but definitely extends the peppery notes and adds richness along with styrax. Ambery dryness to finish like hot embers glowing in a dragon's lair.

185) Three O'clock whith nothing parfum extrèmement délicat mais aussi très léger. La perception est même problématique tellement il est transparent, il nécessite d'être aspergé dans un tissu pour être analysé. Après 20 minutes j'ai abandonné je ne percevais déjà plus rien sinon une vague odeur citronnée. Finallement sur papier le parfum se développe et semble intéressant...mais franchement ça n'en vaut déjà plus la peine, je sentais presque plus l'odeur du papier. extremely delicate fragrance but also very light. Perception is even problematic so it is transparent, it needs to be sprayed in a tissue to be analyzed. After 20 minutes I gave up, I already perceived nothing more except a vague lemon scent. Finally on paper the perfume develops and seems interesting (a super light Five O'Clock)... but frankly it is not worth it already . I almost smell more the odor of the paper.

I really wanted to like this scent. The notes sounded great. I bought a sample of it, and initialy the scent is very much alcohol to me. As it softens I expected the ginger to come out faster, but oddly I smelled tobacco or some other very earthy scent. To me that lasted for at least 1/2 hour before it softened an the ginger came out. The ginger is not as potent as I expected, the tobacco/earthy scent which is not listed here still lingered. The ginger prounouced thereafter and the soft lily and florals came out. I do not smell any fruit. It take a long time for the final note to introduct itself. This scent last a long time, but I personally did not like it. This is not the ginger scent I was looking for. I don't want a tea scent or cinammon so I really expected to like this based on the notes. The brand gets a thumbs up though for sillage and longevity.
