Heart of Darkness

The first time I smelled this my brain was trying to make sense of what I was smelling. At the start it was very earthy and herbal but I also caught whiffs of pepto-bismol. Not a flattering first impression but as it dried down I really began to like it. The labdanum really came through. The sample wasn't enough to get enough of an impression, so I'll be getting the roller bottle to see how this works overall.

Heart of Darkness is a very complex eau de cologne, but a light refreshing citrus one, but really dark, with an aromatic mix of coffee, woods, aromatic herbs and a lot of moss, and a bit a sweetness. It is a very serious work by its mood, not a bit playful, maybe even sad, but very beautiful. This is actually for me for the first time to smell coffee as a harmonious part of the composition. It is a natural perfume and it has a specific aromatic "noise" of natural material due to their complexity, if you know what I mean.

This opens like a walk in a damp, dark, mossy forest. If you put your nose close to your skin, the mossy and earthy smell is quite strong. But if you don’t get too close, it emits intriguing gourmand whiffs. At dry down, it becomes a warm , sweet, and cozy scent, like the walk in the forest finally ends, you are sitting by the fireplace in a cabin, surrounded by the sweet aroma of tobacco.

This had a very evil start, I think it was the labdanum and nutmeg. Like walking into a dark witch's house, threatening and scary. Then the darkness lifts a little and you start noticing the dried moss and something sweet, and it becomes almost friendly. It is definitely interesting but I don't think I'll get the full bottle, this isn't the aura I like to project.

This fragrance is very masculine. It reminds me of libraries in old homes that have rich leather furniture and mahogany desks and bookcases. This is for a man who is confident, bold, sexy and has some darkness to his personality. My husband has the sample and liked it.

This seemed dark and resinous and true to it's name and lovely. It feels very niche. Than I ate an orange. The orange oil on my hand blended into an amazing spiced orange that I can't stop smelling the combination. Seriously, if you have this try layering. It is awesome.
