Indolice

An earthy smokey floral. Not sweet and not skanky to me. I get a “root beer” sensation. I rather enjoy it!

I actually like this fragrance. At first it smelled strongly of fish but there was something familiar that kept me sniffing my wrist. It went on strong, similar to Clinique Aromatics Elixir, pungent, offensive, and downright repulsive. I did not scrub because down under was something I needed to identify. After about 2 hours, it smelled of a deep dark wood. According to the notes, there is oakmoss and frankincense in the base (both of which I love). Maybe it was the oakmoss that made me hold on until the initial blast wore off. This fragrance is NOT a safe blind buy. I won't be adding it to my love list but I do like it enough to wear it.

WHERE'S THE SOAP? Oh my-this stinks to high heavens! This is the first perfume that actually induced a gag reflex in me. Usually, I try to give a perfume a couple of hours in order for it to fully develop, but this one had to come right off. This smelled so dirty and rotty to my nose, like someone dumped the contents of a very dirty bird/hamster cage into a pile of dirt. If you love the earthiness of oak moss and mushrooms and the indolic nature of jasmine, then this is perfect for you. Unfortunately, it wasn't made for me. This is outrageously and fantastically skanky and live up to its name perfectly - indolice.

Indolice from Providence Perfume is carnivorous, vampiric jasmine perfume infused with a generous dose of earthy elements and frankincense. A dark take on jasmine, something that I expected from Serg Lutens' Sarrasins, with no luck. The latter always felt innocent and inoffensive to me. This one, however, delivers that dark allure. The opening is very punchy from the mushroom note, having an almost unami-like, meaty, organic quality to it. The jasmine follows shortly, in its entire glory. Heady, sweet, indolic, and delightfully narcotic. It is juxtaposed by the strong earthbound facets in this perfume but also complemented by the musky, sweet flavor of the spikenard, and the meaty quality of the mushroom. Therefore, it almost feels alive. Like it is made of flesh and breaths. There is a strange accord that sometimes makes me think of blood, maybe a suggestion of the perfume's color which is a deep dark red that you need to make sure doesn't reach your garments. There is a slight aromatic touch from basil at times providing yet another interesting facet to the whole picture. As it dries down on the skin, it becomes earthier, as oakmoss starts to join the mushroom and the nard. To the floral-earthy concoction, the base adjoins a beautiful frankincense accord, completing the mysterious aura around this composition. It feels like a floral-chypre, more organic and earthy, with a nice smoky touch at the end. Dark, mysterious, alluring, like all the children of the night. IG:@memory.of.scents
