Aranyaka

Aranyaka is somehow similar to Aksum, but I believe Aranyaka took Aksum and tamed it. This perfume is not for most people, but I am with the few that love it. Some fragrances attempt to recreate nature. Others seek to beautify it. Aranyaka belongs to a far rarer category: it honours nature in all its complexity while transforming it into something profoundly wearable and emotionally resonant. From the first spray, Aranyaka feels expansive. There is an immediate sense of depth, as though the fragrance opens a doorway rather than merely unfolding on the skin. It evokes the sensation of stepping into an ancient forest where towering trees filter sunlight into soft green shadows and every breath carries traces of earth, wood, and distant smoke. What makes Aranyaka exceptional is its ability to create atmosphere without relying on obvious effects. The composition feels seamless and organic, as though every material naturally belongs within the landscape it conjures. This is great. Very realistic forest floor scent with a foggy incense core. Soil, fur, cloves, greenery, and incense are immediately apparent. It’s damp, smoky, and simultaneously heavy and serene. Feels vast, dark green, glacial in scope. There's a pronounced funerary vibe, so it’s not really what I'd call uplifting, but it makes you feel present and contemplative, and it gives off a solemn sort of energy, so your opinion of it might depend on whether your present mood fits into the fragrance’s particular emotionally aloof “nook.” But that’s not really a negative in this case. It’s just to say that this isn’t a scent that feels happy or sad but instead feels at rest. Not uplifting, but grounding (get it? forest floor...grounding). Anyways, to me, the vibe is great for days when you want to spend some time alone listening to music in a newly cleaned house. Could probably be worn as a formal statement but would pair equally well with a vintage Black Sabbath T shirt. Makes me think of the song “Addis” by OM. If you enjoy Prin’s forest scents in general, I think this will also be up your alley because it does feel a bit like a prototype for other scents that came later. For instance, I get the same sort of satisfaction out of wearing this that I get from Sloth by Zoologist, oddly. That's not an apples to apples comparison because I think Aranyaka is significantly more approachable and dignified, so keep in mind they’re not crazy similar, but I guess if you happened to be intrigued by Sloth’s lush, green woodiness but were left a tad offput by its sleepy, mildewy wackiness, then this may be the forest scent you’re looking for, since with Aranyaka you still get some greenery, lavender, beeswax, olibanum, and oakmoss, as well as a distinct “furry” overtone. Or, maybe, if Aranyaka is a forest, then I could see Sloth as being a goofy creature who lives in that forest. But where some of Prin’s other compositions skew playful, Aranyaka is very, very stern and cultivated, with a subtly surreal edge and an abundance of depth and darkness, and multiple distinct phases. Is it a scent to spritz on before a quick trip to the grocery store? No, not really. But it’s awesome for quiet, contemplative, introspective moments. Definitely not for everyone, but those for whom it’s intended will absolutely flip for it. Highly suggested for fans of incense and forest-themed scents in general, certain Pinewards, Khephera, Sloth, Spell 125, Prin’s darker work. Side Note: My wife doesn’t always care for animalic scents, but she finds this one particularly nice, so thumbs up all around. Big fan of this and the guys who worked on it, and I love having a bottle as a reference point for whatever they end up producing in the future. This one’s sure to be looked back on as an underground classic– kudos to the creators.

Aranyaka is a mystical woodland steeped in archaic magic! Ancient resins used since the beginning of history, old growth trees, the spirit of passing animals stirring the unseen. Has the feeling of other houses known for magical mixes like Olympic Orchids, Arcana, and Solstice Scents. Love this Indian mystic forest fragrance! Combined in a way that captures the imagination, this perfume is made with some of my favorite notes. Natural plant essences, impressively chosen both for scent and symbolism. Starting with cypress, symbolic of death. A perfect choice to represent ritual sacrifice. The haunting tree of primal swamps, its raised knees, eerie in the twilight darkness. Associated with the underworld, it has a medicinal clean aroma that's woody, spicy and evergreen. It's surrounded by trails of nargamotha. An aroma like the mingling of vetiver (strong similarity), cedar, and patchouli. Native to India, and used in Ayurvedic medicine, it's associated with life force, adding to the Eastern aesthetic. Then, olibanum, a resinous church aroma, incense-like and spiritual. More nuances, with damp soil tinctures - magic of place like mist rising from the earth. Beeswax, leather cloaked in oakmoss add to the sensation of mysterious life hidden in the bearded wood. And . . . animalics - goat hair, civet and castoreum, the siren call of the wild. Their satiny depth and richness a reminder of life's continuum. Quietly through it all, saffron! The most expensive spice in the world, used here like a ghostly flute calling from the distance. It's melody a profound accent. For the Hindu this represents fire and purity. There's a keen sense of experiencing an otherworldly communion. A forest lost in time, used for rites almost forgotten. I really loved that the scent conveyed the inspiration perfectly. Impressed that they nailed such an intellectual and lofty goal. A metaphysical forest wrapped in prophecy. Strong longevity, more masculine (due to the vetiver-like nargamotha), wonderful note ascendencies. Velvety smoothness. Want more from this new house!

Prin is notorious for his forestry genre of fragrances, often centered around nocturnal animals or religious mysticism, and no other fragrance embodies that quite like Aranyaka. From the moment you spray this fragrance, you have no choice but to divert your attention to it's commandeering presence, a rich and primal forest with a bit of a confierous edge, which can be accredited to the notes of cypress and cypriol oil, prominent enough to turn this composition a deep and dark muddied green, a perfect color to reflect this fragrance, all resting on a bed of soil that serves as a backbone for the top and heart. Thankfully, I feel that the soil accord in Aranyaka is much more balanced than in Aran, a synthetic remake under the PRIN line (recently discontinued.) The soil in Aran was extremely prominent and left a screechy body that obstructed a lot of nuances in my opinion, and hindered the full potential that can be seen in this fragrance. After an hour of wearing Aranyaka, the animal notes that were promised on the bottle start to poke their heads, but in a very unconventional way. In most fragrances, I run away at the sight of the "animalic" tag, as I can't tolerate the funky and fecal edge in many of these perfumes. However, the animalics in here felt more true to it's name, the comforting smell of digging your head into the fur of an animal, and serves as a nice textural difference from the top. The base of this fragrance is quite unique, because it has a clear fougere DNA, mostly oakmoss and lavender but smells quite unlike any fougeres I've ever smelled, serving as a nice skin scent to remind you of the forest you had waded across hours earlier. This fragrance is probably among Prins top 3, and despite being familiar with a majority of his works, my expectations were shattered regardless. Masterpiece

It's very rare that I am impressed enough with a frag that I even bother to write a review, but Aranyaka is a special one. Without sounding melodramatic, I have been looking for a scent like this one for a long time. For me, it hits all the marks and standards I have in a perfume. But first off, I want to thank Rajesh Balkrishnan for sending me a sample. It's because of him that I discovered Pryn Parfum, and esp., Aksum, which I LOVE. He has also taught me a good deal about perfumes of the East. He is a very sweet and kind man, and I am happy to be his friend (albeit, vertual). When I received my sample decant from Rajesh, I was at once captivated by the smell, even before I could prize it from it's packing. When I sprayed it on my arm, the smell of a forest, complete with damp fertile soil, animal markings and wood filled the room. After several hours, and having sprayed some on my neck, I went to bed. With closed eyes, I was transported to a lush, dark jungle, primordial, essentially into where I came from: the earth. I had a happy sleep smelly this wonderful perfume, and could still smell it when I woke up in the morning. It's very unusual for me to sleep with a perfume or any frag w/o becoming annoyed by it and washing it off at some point. I wore it to work the next day and got a very rare compliment from a man of Turkish decent. He commented that it reminded him of the Middle East. It was the first comment I have ever gotten from a man. I have fallen in love with Aranyaka (the Turkish guy too.. LOL) and ordered a FB. I know this isnt a "trained nose" review, it's just how I experience this awesome perfume. If what I wrote interests you, do indeed try it. My humble thanks and gratitude to Rajesh.

A sacred perfume in its own right, Aranyaka redefines the purpose of wearing perfume, from one of performance, to one of ritual, and meditation. Borrowing its namesake from Vedic Aryanism, an an ancient, oral, ritualistic tradition, this perfume explores the notion of delving deep into an ancient Indian forest; performing spiritual, and animalistic rituals there. I sense four main stages in this perfume: Aranyaka opens on my skin with earthen notes, such as pine, cypriol, oak moss, soil and lavender, building up the illusion of a forest. This illusion is cool, damp, and dark: dripping with dew, and morning frost. Next, Aranyaka enriches this lush forest with animalistic blasts of goat hair, castoreum, beeswax, nutmeg and saffron. These notes warm the perfume up on your skin, slowly but surely guiding it into the next phase. Once Aranyaka has heated this forest, like the rituals in the vedas, it burns it all down, exploding into wafts of deep, black incense. The frankincense, together with the pine smolder on my skin. Finally, after the fire has run its course, the perfume settles into a rich, skin-like animalistic/humanistic fougere accord. The oakmoss and lavender, together with the castorium and goat hair, linger for hours, and remind me of the enchanted forest this perfume guided me through. Wearing Aranyaka is an ritual unlike any other. Like all sacraments, this ritual imparts me with a feeling of grace. My bottle of Aranyaka will take me through this enchanted forest, and then burn it down, every time I wear it. For that, I will treasure my bottle. Pryn and Rajesh have created experiential art in a bottle. 10/10.

Aranyaka by Prin & Dr Rajesh Balakrishnan Aranyaka, I don't know how to start about this and what to say to do justice to this exciting fragrance I recently acquired (I genuinely regret waiting for that long). With first spray it seems like you are meditating in the center of a green jungle, where you get combined scent of vegetation, moisture, soil, decaying plants/animals and wood. I also get #tobacco in here, in its raw form as if it's growing unnoticed somewhere hidden and the dew in the morning making it more pronounced. It's a fragrance which would stimulate all your senses in a go, all in beautiful way and I love it. It's one of those complex fragrance which would open itself in layers and would always keep you wondering what note you sniffing as its so very well blended. Who would have thought that the goat hair note would be a thing and here it is, which literally makes it unforgettable. I have been wearing it on and off from last one week and man, I can't seem to have enough. It transports me to a different era, always lift my spirit to next level which is insane. It's not just another fragrance iny collection, it's a soul, a new found friend which I want to be with and spend as much time as possible. It's pure magic in a bottle, my top favorite in no time. It's like I finally found my signature scent. A smell, I would want people to remind me whenever they smell something so magical.

First I am greeted by a burst of rooty-green notes, with an almost menthol coolness. A slight sweetness starts to appear after a minute, which lures me in to breath deeper and imagine more vividly the vision intended by Aranyaka. Yes, I am somewhere ancient and wild. The vegetation has been allowed to grow as it pleases. I am surrounded by tropical folaige: Anthurium, Philodendron, Peace Lillies. I do see ruins of temples in my imagination, however the incense notes are not prominent on my skin, but it is detectable. The animalic notes grow a bit stronger after 20-30 minutes and add a lovely natural comforting smell, like that of a pet, but not dirty at all. Aranyaka is both smooth and wild, comforting and arousing. The notes are many of my favourite things, particularly oakmoss, castoreum and beeswax. The spices are blended well as modifiers without standing out on their own. I really don't have any complaints, apart from a fairly masculine and average dry down, but the journey there is enjoyable. I'm really impressed by Aranyaka, and it has introduced me to Cypriol. I would only add a touch more incense/luban. The ability for a perfume to transport you somewhere in your imagination, rather than just remind you of small pieces of actual memories, is really admirable. This is what makes niche fragrance more artistic and exciting, telling a story, and realising a vision.

There is nothing I can add about Aranyaka that hasn't already been mentioned by others. This perfume is truly art! I get a strong wet, damp soil note at the very beginning. As the perfume evolves, the luscious green forest accords become prominent. The resins root the wearer in a meditative state, with the soft animalic notes offering the warm comfort of spirit guides offering their protection on a spiritual journey. This is not a "crowd pleaser" type of scent and if you've only experienced designer fragrances you may not appreciate its beauty. However, it is still very wearable. Although this is an Extrait de Parfum, it doesn't last for enless hours on my skin (on clothes is a different story). I get about 6-8 hours with good sillage, which is more than enough for what it accomplishes with me. The ingredients are top quality and blended masterfully together, transporting the wearer to another world or realm. I thank Dr. Rajesh Balkrishnan for sending me a sample of this intoxicating fragrance and for allowing me to experience its beauty. His collaboration with Pryn Parfum has produced a wonderful olfactory experience!

Master Perfumers Rajesh Balkrishnan & Prin Lomros created this masterpiece several years ago. I should have written a review then lauding its virtues but I did not get around it. To those unfamiliar with two of the most revered perfumers in the niche category then this is your chance to understand what many of the previous reviews hav already said. It is a green scent but its overall list of notes is unlike most of what anyone else would blend. It is both light and dark, green with dark soil. cloves with beeswax etc. It takes daring to push the mix of notes this far and deep. It is long lasting with good to strong silage. I find it leans male and can be worn any season. I have not worn this in a while and am glad I come around to it again. Almost anything these two have created on their own or in collaboration with others, has turned into a love for me. At least try a sample if you can find it. Goat hair tincture Saffron Nutmeg Lavender and lots more. Is it animalic? Check. Green? Check. Defies easy categorization? Check. Wonderful in virtually every respect.

Don't know how to describe this beautiful divine creation !! A very Complex scent with a great depth yet simple and easy to wear.. First spray, And this reminded me of my trekking days in the luscious green mountains after the monsoons. This smells exactly how the the forest smells like after a good rain. Wet soil...Wet plants..Trees. A perfect green scent with a incense trail which will be with you from the very beginning to the end. The incense here is to die for. Not only a full bottle worthy but a backup worthy. A perfect scent for meditation or the one who wants to calm his mind & soul after a long hectic day at work. Scent - 11/10 Projection - 10/10 Sillage - 10/10 Longevity -10/10 ( Gave me good 12+hours on skin, outdoors which is very rare in the climate condition where I stay & 20hrs+ on clothes) A perfect monsoon scent/best suited when temperature is below 25°C. If you are longing for those deep, dark, exotic and animalic fragrances...you need to check this one out. This is perhaps the absolute best scents ever created in that category! The name is Aranyaka by PRYN PARFUM. . So deep. So dark. There is no light in sight. The smell of mystique. The scent of surrealism. The aroma of mythical creatures...those you cannot meet with your own eyes...packed in one place. . This is how I imagine the mythical Himavanta forest would smell like in the night time...where the moon and the stars are deemed powerless because they cannot reach this place with any sorts of light. This is the unparalleled form of darkness in a bottle. . If you’re lucky you might be able to adopt these beautiful babies from someone. And if you managed to get your hands on a bottle of this magical creation, please consider yourself blessed! Legendary stuff right here. Salute to the wizardry of Prin Lomros.

A walk into the Forest Just got my no.9/20 of Aranyaka from the Master Perfumers Rajesh Balkrishnan & Prin Lomros Was blown away by the richness of this composition. The earthy and smoky notes blend with the animalics to create a sensation that needs to be experienced than explained. It truly feels like a walk in the forest amidst a medley of aromas that nature creates by herself. Nutmeg and Saffron give it the bite. The Goat hair tincture is one ingredient that I have no clue to detection, but perhaps that delivers an extra lift to this interesting composition, which easily stands apart from the crowd. Take a bow Rajesh Balakrishnan + Prin Lomros It is indeed a pity that the limitation of some of the ingredients perhaps impose a constraint in that; many may not be able to experience the joy of wearing this creation par excellence.

Deep, dark, mystic, complex, enchanting, bold. This is one of the most interesting fragrances I have put my nose on. I get a forest earthy vibe for sure, but I also get leather, resins and incense. In addition there is noticable lavendel giving a barbershop feeling. I get an image of a barbershop in a post apocalyptic world where the forest has grown in and taken over the barbershop. This fragrance is surrealistic and artistic, but in a good way! It is pushing boundaries. It really evokes anchient vedic rituals 3500 year ago. Incense in the forest, intense chantings and ritual specialists prepering sacrifice to the Gods. The border between this world and the other opens. You get a glimpse of holiness before you come down to earth and feel grounded and blessed. This fragrance is a spiritual experience.

Aranyaka opens on my skin with an animalic, slightly leathery blast of cypriol and cypress oil with a distinctive soil accord, slowly settling into a lightly-spiced, honeyed base of incense, oakmoss and lavender. Unsurprisingly, this is not an easily categorizable perfume, but with those with such inclinations, at times it might bring to mind the structure of an aromatic fougère, but such thoughts fall apart rather quickly, for this is a bold, dense, animalic scent evoking exactly what it purports to do: a lush ancient forest in India rich with life and contemplations of its beyond. Aranyaka is unlikely to be a perfume for everyone, but I suspect those chasing olfactive gems will cherish this: an olfactive beauty of the highest order that provokes meditation.

This perfume here is a landmark in my fragrance journey that fully redirected me to a whole new path. There was a time where I knew and believed I’d never be that person getting into artisanal perfumes, especially the earthy and animalic ones! And here I am totally submitting myself to it! Aranyaka to me is a walk into the deep woods, loitering around places you shouldn’t be, yet enhancing the ecstatic energy within you. It’s earthy, woody, smoky and animalic. This is one of those perfumes that elevates your spiritual presence and makes you one with nature! I can’t thank Rajesh Balkrishnan sir and Prin Lomros for this soulful creation. This is true art in a bottle!

Aranyaka is very unique and takes a while for even an experienced nose to unpack. It is complex enough that it is difficult to dissect by notes. Take this: combine a fresh, medicinal green pine with religious smoky incense, an animalic fuzz, and pungent spices. Fresh but dense, dark but clear, cold but full of life, Aranyaka is an intruiging treat for those who seek something different, edgy, and all so mysterious. Compared to Pyrn's Aksum, though they share similarities, Aranyaka is fresher and more woody. Aksum focuses on intoxicating funk, while Aranyaka has a more regal feeling approach. Aksum is a carnal mysteriousness; Aranyaka is a mystic mysteriousness.

If only every attempt at capturing the verdant green lushness of the forest could smell like this! Wow. This is green like a fine Cambodian oud is green: high pitched almost minty top notes, both fresh and earthy at the same time. The word "fougere" should have been used to describe THIS style ot perfume. If a fern had a smell, it would be this. Extraordinary, naturalistic, and refreshing without any of the usual aromachemicals that produce that effect. This would be refreshing in any season but I see it as the perfect scent to usher in the spring or the fall. Wear it to your equinox parties and dance under the moon with your favorite centaur. Lovely.

This is the green woody earth incense of dreams. This is something I've been looking for to add into my collection. Finding a proper 'green' fragrance is hard, and most fragrances calling themselves green are cheap junk. This is nothing like those fragrances, when I think green jungle on a wet rainy day, I think this. This is a most excellent incense, with gorgeous animalic notes to it - very wearable. I give it a 10/10, and I do not say that lightly. I am truly honored to have tried this fragrance. If you have the chance, I highly recommend it if you're looking for something unique, beautiful, and wearable.

This is the olfactory equivalent of riding through the dank Indian jungle on the back of an earth caked elephant. I haven’t experienced the jungle like this in a fragrance before...the only other time I have is with a pure Indonesian Oud, so this is pretty special to me. A dizzying amount of cypress (in a good way) with a mysterious incense, lots of animalics, and damp earth. If my wife didn’t crack down on my bottle purchases this would be a buy for me. I even got a compliment from a stranger?! Excited to see what Rajesh comes up with next.
