Aenotus No. 09

Aenothus, as the rest of the puredistance perfumes are, is a great perfume. In this case we are in front of a very good citrusy perfume, very dense and with a long lasting power that i have never seen before un this kind of scents. However the sillage is moderate soft, keeping close to the skin most ofnthe time, what makes the perfume perfect for day time use even under warm weather. I would recommend It even for dates which take place during the day because It gives a fresh and very sexy feeling to the skin. The first i get is the mix of citrus fruits, centered i think on the Orange. The opening is fresh and intense, with a subtle touch ofnthe petit grain giving a Green and creamy vibe to the fragance. In the dry down the perfume becomes very musky staying for Manu hours there, with a sexy and bit animalic character. This is one of the longest lasting citrusy perfumes i have ever tried, but i supposed that the fact of having a 48% of essence oils is one of the reasons why, and naturally also the great quality of the ingredients... I recommend to all perfume lovers to try the perfumes from this brand. It is true that are not cheap but the quality is superb and they offer a sample set on their official web with a most affordable price... Aenotus really shocked me. I didn’t think I would enjoy it much when I looked at the notes, and yet 1 hour after applying it shot up into my top 3 from Puredistance. It is utterly spectacular and nothing short of a masterpiece in my eyes. I am fairly confident I will pay full retail for it. Initially it’s very bright and refreshing with lots of lemon, alongside a sharp, green herbal facet - thankfully, the mint is mercifully subtle. From here it develops this insatiably addictive musk, which persists and grows immensely over time, taking over the entire scent. This musk is at once sweet and soapy, yet is incredibly suggestive and sensual at the same time. It reminds me of the natural deer musk used by Matthew Meleg in his stunning creation, Honey Deer Musk, which makes me wonder if the aim was to create an impression of deer musk. This is easily one of the best from the house for me and a must-have.

Someone threw a few ml in of this with a bottle of something else I bought off them, unlabeled to test me :). I had to message them and get the name so they were right, I do really like it. Very high quality fresh clean citrus and green herbal opening, the petitgrain and yuzu usage here is exceptional. Then there is a musky undercurrant to it, that when you further dry into it you get a smoky earthy feel, not too much just perfect. Really good cologne type fragrance with a twist. I agree with people that voted for Eau Sauvage Extreme, similar but this one is the same profile taken to the extremes of quality. Unfortunately as others said, this comes with extremes of price which is hard to justify given what it compares to. It is really good though, if you don't mind the cost you are probably getting a top of genre fragrance here.

I love this perfume and I am female. It is so raw, herbal green...it’s just beautiful. I wear this in combo with Dans Paris Celine to make it sweeter and more feminine. Just perfection! Outdoors any time of year, it will blow your mind!

I really loved it, It's a wonderful perfume that is very unique and makes you feel very good, not disturbing but also attractive. I got a sample but I would like to buy a bottle.

Puredistance does the clean citric thing, and the results are entirely predictable. Just as you would expect: it's gorgeous, almost scarily classy, full of truly lovely notes and fine ingredients, transcendentally tasteful, impeccably unisex, clean yet durable... and it costs nearly as much as a minor organ transplant. Also as you would expect from the house, this is very, very upscale work - the prickle of herbal/oakmoss is balanced with amazing poise, and the citrus zing is for real, with a halo of 'extra' flowery, sweet, heady notes surrounding the zest. There's clever nuance and real care here, in just how seamlessly it's all put together. Even the usual slow fade to underlying musk (which all too often ruins a citric formula for me) is pulled off with real charm: the musk is soft & sophisticated enough to meld beautifully into your skin, rather than to crash in trailing clouds of laundry detergent or metallic chemical 'meh' in its wake). HOWEVER. Not original in the least - and maybe not even the treatment of this theme I've enjoyed the most. It plays really close to the edges of other things like OJ Qi, MFK Aqua Universalis, Parfum d'Empire Iskander or even (kind of) Lutens Fleur de Citronnier. Aenotus is undeniably really, really good indeed, but it doesn't smell all THAT different from other scents which are equally classy and clean yet cost much (MUCH!) less. If money's no object - this is a more-than-acceptable way to buy yourself a luxury lemon-scented bubble. If you're on a finite budget - there are many, many cheaper rides to very nearly the same destination.

This is fantastic but it's unique, and the results of that are the totally misguided reviews you'll read below. Quality is extremely high, using the best citrus materials available, the composition is well blended and results in a unique citrus/green/aromatic/musky accord. When presented with a unique smell or accord, the brain will assign it to whatever is the next closest thing it is familiar with, but as you can see that is different from person to person, hence some of the wildly variable impressions that are in these reviews. But these impressions are personal and unsuitable to be the basis of a review, they just don't apply to a vast majority of other people. So... sorry, but many of the reviews here are useless and misguided. Of course that doesn't mean you should love it, but have some respect for others' work and realize when you just don't have anything worthwhile to contribute or anything nice to say, and keep your mouth shut. Most were taught that as kids, but in the internet age anonymous keyboard warriors pollute everything with their ignorant, unfair and mean comments. I won't address any one review but folks, think about what you post, be introspective and don't be mean.

I get a load of petit grain, yuzu and musk on the opening. There always seems to be quite a musky base to all Puredistance scents. A clean, creamy musk. Following closely behind is the oak moss. With time you can just about pick out the patch, blossom and sweeter citrus notes. This is one potent scent. I guess it's unisex. I see it more on a man and worn in warm weather. It's not my thing tbh. Worth trying if you like clean, crisp yet creamy scents. The sillage large in this warm room and longevity moderate.

Light refreshing aromatic chypre. The perfume opens with notes of lemon, yuzu and orange. The heart is mint, petitgrain and very slight black currant. The perfume settles into mossy powdery patchouli, oakmoss and synthetic musk. Not particularly unique but has a nice energizing aura to it. The unisex slight masculine leaning scent has moderate projection and good longevity. Pricey and classy. Enjoy!

I get a lot of similarities to Xerjoff's Renaissance. It's different, but very similar to each other. I don't like it as much as Renaissance due to the green notes being a bit stronger in Aenotus. Good summer citrus. For the price I can't justify getting a bottle or even a travel size when there are some better choices to my nose. The quality is there but it just feels like it's missing something.

Citrus heavy opening. It's green with syrupy yuzu initially. Smells like lemons and crushed green leaves and it's mossy. The mid smells like smoothed out petitgrain and mint but not much patch, which is all good. The citrus is present throughout which is too much for me. Finally there's sweetness that smells like honey and that's a hit or miss note for me. - Great for summer anyway.

Nice fragrance but horribly, horribly overpriced. Found the review @Dorje amusing. Basically everybody who disagrees with him is misguided and if you don't like this fragrance you better keep your mouth shut. Well what else to expect from someone who puts this generic 'most interesting man' commercial from that cheap beer brands as their avatar.

Opening is salad dressing. Evolves into a delicious, zesty lemon and yuzu composition. The salad dressing thing kinda lingers in the undertone so I'm leaning toward a 😐 instead of a 🙂.

Don’t believe the hype like I did. I was itching for a blind buy fix and bought the 17.5 ml bottle. This will be one of the very few occasions where I’m just going to say what an absolute expensive waste of time and money this was. It’s completely unremarkable - a burst of citrus is quickly moved on to black currant bud, oak moss and a touch of mint, petitgrain being the most prominent for 5 minutes. In five minutes it’s a skin scent - Luckyscents description says it lasts for hours and days on clothes... nup... to quote above “transform into a sensual, but subtle (skin)scent” ... um yep with 46% oil ummm yeah no I don’t think so unless it’s 46% cheap oil... sounds like creative marketing on their part too without Luckyscents creative team not reading the press release before writing their advert... well a rapid skin scent is what they achieved... something no one really wants... surely... It came in an exquisite package and fold out box, which ironically made me think as I was opening it that there was little substance to it as if they were trying to over dress it to hide their guilt for the price. I scratched my head for a few days and it finally dawned on me - it’s a less citrusy version of Guy Laroche Horizon (have sprayed both on my arms at the moment) which is only $20 and it lasts longer... the oakmoss and slight citrus freshness being the common thread... Someone here said it reminded them of a Parfum De Marly scent. I then went and checked my collection and it also dawned on me as per their marketing claim the drydown after five minutes which is a skin scent reminds me of indeed a far less potent Layton Exclusif... The creator of this perfume and Antoine Lie need to bring drop down from their loft in the clouds and not over think their product... edit: Well, again I tried and whilst this is still exceptionally unremarkable I can see the claim for oil content as after spraying my arm five minutes later I rubbed my arm and found an oily sheen on my hand and under the light was quite shocked as to how oily it was... none the less... no point if there is little to smell...

I was sent this as PR, having high hopes. The second I sprayed it I gagged. The opening was the most old fashioned aldehydic soapy cologne that your grandad wore. Like Aramis. Or citrus version of Chanel n5. The dry down is a bit more modern. But still old fashioned in the background. I’m selling mine. Message me if interested.

490,-€/100 ml? Is it some joke or what? Definitely not worth the price.

Opens with an intense, vibrant blast of citrus-infused mint, specifically yuzu and orange notes over a bright green natural mint. It's a 10 to 15 minute flash, projecting intensely, radiating out, and then it transitions. The mint settles in significantly, leaving just a cooling, herbal trace. The citruses will cling to fabric but mostly disappear off the skin. A dominant oakmoss absolute and black currant blossom take over at this point, as well as a significant petit grain. What results is a bitter-green oakmoss with a floral, semi-rosy embellishment from the petit grain and the even more bitter, cat-pee like smell of the currant blossom. This is an aroma which I don't enjoy up close very much, but smells better at a bit of a distance, as the currant blossom aroma dissipates more into the overall whole. There also seems to be a bit of an indolic smell in the heart of Aenotus, and it comes out later again, more strongly in the late base when it blends with the musk. A couple more hours in and sweeter, more fragrant aspects of the currant blossom appears--just a touch sweet-fruity and sweet-floral (kind of like a jasmine or tuberose) and marked by the green cooling quality of the mint. This is a pleasant stage or part of Aenotus and I kept catching nice wafts of it while I was outside walking around. On fabric it's more citrusy, more juicy/fruity, and bright, and on skin it's more bitter-green, floral and airy. Finally, on skin, it takes on a musky, somewhat animalic smell, blended with the oakmoss and petit grain form the previous stage. I don't really like the way it smells here, at this point of the dry down. The bitterness of the oakmoss and the funk of the musk just isn't something I want to smell, and not what I was going for in the first place. Cooling vibrant greens, juicy citrus fruits and maybe some clean, soapy aspects from the oakmoss were what I had in mind, but it seems like Aenotus really heads off into this bitter/animalic/indolic direction that I'm not crazy about. At this point (3 to 4 hours in) it's a skin scent, projecting no further than 3 inches off the skin, but it's incredibly persistent and as a result catches the air around it and creates a very noticeable sillage around the wearer. So while its projection is not far or strong necessarily, it manages to get out in the air around it and hang there, which creates a definite aura around its subject. These are all my first and immediate impressions of Aenotus, 5 hours into wearing it. It's definitely more bitter than I'd anticipated, with the oakmoss and black currant blossom being so prominent (and the petit grain fits right in there too). The mint is more a temperature and texture than smell for a lot of the scent, as it lends a cooling, herbal edge. I also wasn't expecting any sort of animalic muskiness, which I'm getting a lot of in the base, albeit in a subtle, close to the skin manner. This is also the kind of scent that , at least for me, smells much nicer while moving around, and from a bit of a distance, than sniffing it up super-close, nose to skin. I've had an up-and-down type of reaction to it--enjoying it a lot at times and not so much at others. I also sprayed the heck out of myself--a good 10 or 12 sprays all over, which is a lot more than I would normally apply. Next time I"m going with a normal 3 or 4 shots and I'll see how it plays out. For now, I'm recommending SAMPLING this--it is NOT a safe blind buy, at least for those who are just looking for a really nice citrus/mint fragrance. If you love bitter-greens, petit grain and oakmoss, and enjoy a funky musk on the quiet side, then you may truly love this one. Either way, sample first. I still have quite a way to go before reaching my final verdict. Final Verdict: I sold my bottle (in about a week after buying it). I have two major issues with Aenotus: Numero Uno: No me gusta the smell. It’s, como se dice, “no good.” Bitter greens and an animalic funky Musk with a hint of citrus. It doesn’t smell fresh, juicy and nice as expected. Not at all. Secondly, the projection is very poor. While it lasts a long time, it never extends beyond a few inches save for the initial half hour. After that.....pfffffft. Overall, this is one that sounds promising on paper (i.e., ad copy), but doesn’t translate into real experience. Final rating, 5.5/10. Worth sampling I suppose, but that’s about it.

The perfume called Aenotus was launched in March 2019 after about three years of constant attempts to bring to life what would be the signature fragrance of Jan Ewoud Vos, founder and creative director of Puredistance Master Perfumes. And to achieve this goal, he enlisted the help of perfumer Antoine Lie, responsible for other fragrances of the house, such as Puredistance Black, Puredistance White, and Puredistance Warszawa. The concept behind Aenotus called for a refreshing fragrance, but one that would not fade away fast, regardless of the volatility of its notes. In addition, the result needed to be delicate so as not to clash with the standard quality of the other Puredistance fragrances. Obviously, the task was complicated and in order to achieve the expected result, it was necessary to increase the essence concentration to 48%. By then, the highest volume had been in White's fragrance, at 38%. And the name comes from Aeolus, the god of the winds, in Greek Mythology. Aenotus contains head notes of orange, mandarin, lemon, and yuzu. In the body, it brings mint, black currant buds, and petitgrain. In the base, it carries oakmoss, patchouli, and musks. As part of the niche and high-end segment, it is sold to both genres. However, I feel a much greater commercial appeal to the male audience, especially because its creation was intended to represent something quite particular for the founder of the brand. On the skin, Aenotus does not escape much from the classic pattern of Puredistance perfumes, except Sheiduna and M, which I think are the most modern. And for that reason, it was not difficult to identify vintage-looking nuances right off the bat, which are reminiscent of masculine perfumes from a time when lemon and petitgrain notes dictated market rules. On my skin, Aenotus starts with a mossy citrus opening and evolves into a lighter and more sensual fragrance, staying close to the skin, but with great durability. It is difficult to describe this smell without setting a comparative parameter, as countless olfactory memories emerge with each use. And perhaps that was the intention of Jan Ewoud in creating this briefing: to bring back memories of a not too distant past, but one that has been lost with commercial evolution. To convey my feelings, I can say that Aenotus seems to me to be a rereading of Pour Monsieur de Chanel (1955), mixed with the fruity and acidic facets of blackcurrant, on a base of slight mossy content and no powdery appearance. So far, I have been able to try all the fragrances of this house and I dare say that Aenotus is the most Italian of them, although it was born in May 2015, in Paris.

AENOTUS, it was decleared as a carefully fragrance chemically mixed during more years for Puredistance as a DREAM by Antoine Lie. At first illusion seems great, but later unfortunetely you can't smell this fragrance as a positive result. It is offered especialy for women and men shared parfume,- (mainly for men by my opinion)- with beginning of Top citrus-types mixed smelled riot, which fall apart after thirty minutes, and the Heart part you can "enjoy" also for only so short period stay with you, loosing all citrus-types, yuzu etc.so fast, because even Antoine Lie could have could not force this fragrance to stay this components in by him promised incredible 48% parfume oil concentration, which components has been by patchouli level also quickly abandoned. At the end so early, after one and half hour you stay alone with some unpleasant mix of mostly oakmoss and of musk, and staying with you a commercial modernity generally found smell, -ordinary general smell of our age of most men fragrances, without any "reference" of AENOTUS luxuriousity and without looks any extremly luxuriousity for appearance for it's extremly high price, from which every 100ml costs to 500 Eur. May be M. Lie and his team could have spent their time with less alkimia they could have been bring more succes to create a new extraordinary smell, (similar to BLACK) which looks now we need to be deprived for AENOTUS. (Suggested further develope) Scent:6/10 Longevity:7/10 Projection:6/10

Aenotus is so beautiful, almost signature worthy. It is kind of a fougerish chypre. The fresh opening of lemon, yuzu, mint and petitgrain is breathtaking and they succeeded in making it last for quite some time. The blackcurrant here has a leafy slightly acidic fruity and somewhat animalic (More like indolic to my nose) facet. The drydown has noticeable oakmoss and an elegant clean musk accord. The only drawback of the fragrance is the price which is so exaggerated to point that I can’t justify buying a full bottle. I mean there is nothing here that warrants the asking price. Otherwise, it is an excellent and well-blended fragrance that gives an example of an existing idea tailored to perfection.

Green earthy zest citrus in the opening brought to another level. Several layers to it, bitter, no sweetness, barely any Mint. Around half hour in brings out Oakmoss as citrus conglomerate blends on. At this point think part Sedley type spice citrus amidst a forest soil vetiver simulated base canvas. Stays a little as such and then continues bringing out even more green earthy to it, keeping some part of the main built track, softening and loosing some of the other details. And probably doesn't stop there, try it out next in the full fledge sun that's for sure.

Basic, too basic. It is as one of the reviews below say - citrus and crushed greens with some oakmoss and patch. Citrus is low quality, greens are not fancy or aromatic, just crushed weeds, literally. Base of patch and Oakmoss is very simple and all of this is sitting on top of some screechy aromachemical, which makes this even worse. If you want good citrus, at least last time i tried, Xerjoff is your house, and Nio is King, even though i am not fan of citrus, i cant deny quality of Nio. Another pass.

Apparently a citrus can smell dirty and stale, wow...One the worst citrus scents (for me anyways) I've smelled in along time. Almost repulsive. Sorry if this is not very helpful.

To sum it up, sort of reminds me of PdM Percivel??? it’s a nice frag, but not as powerful as I thought it would be ?
