Verdeur

Absolutely gorgeous. Dreamy. Beautiful and ethereal. But the performance is shocking. It's a skin scent and disappears within an hour. It really is a stunning scent though.

Not too long ago, I covered Quelque Part and pointed out its simplistic approach. It was a nice piece, just not to my taste, but Verdeur gets much closer whilst still keeping it simple. Now, my preferences usually steer into the smoky, resinous, "stinky" categories, but from time to time, I do enjoy a nice, green freshie with no skank or otherwise "challenging" notes as viewed by the community. And Verdeur is pretty much that. It opens with a very smooth neroli, portraying almost soothing citrusy-floral accents. Very gentle and appealing earthiness with green-herbaceous accents from the angelica root gets pitted against an underlying freshness, sort of damp an watery, which is none other than the violet leaf. The tone is set as leaning feminine, but I'd still categorize it as perfectly unisex. The orris comes through with very mild powderiness, appearing more clean and soft. Same applies to the orange blossom, which is very tame in its approach, contributing with a gentle whisper of white floral beauty and mellow orange-y aspects. Beyond this point, tiny dry cedar facets settle for the base, aided with just as faint patchouli (not listed here) and a pinch of vetiver to keep that earthiness alive. That largely concludes it. It's so simple, yet so likeable. It won't blow anyone's mind, but you'll struggle to hate it. Yet seeing the clear softness with which the notes present themselves, it's no surprise that Verdeur does not do such a remarkable job at garnering attention. It does reach close to 9 hours in terms of longevity on my skin, but mostly does it as a skin scent, as projection is largely gone by hour 2, and those first 2 hours are moderate, without much fanfare. But at the very least you get a very versatile fragrance that way. Daily, school, office, some overspraying for more distinct events... it doesn't matter. Verdeur is tailored to be easy to like and easy to wear. And it's not too expensive, either. Retails for €98 for 50ml, which is well below many other designers nowadays. Now, the scent itself is not leaps ahead of a few remaining designers on the market who didn't venture into the popular "synthetic-sweet" genre, but it is smooth and well-put together, and just because it is simpler than most, it doesn't mean it's worse. Quite frankly, I see it as an advantage. So Verdeur is well-worth considering if just a pretty, pleasant fragrance is what you're after, especially if you're fed up with the amount of crap mainstream brands put out these days. This is quite similar to French Lover, with vetiver levels raised and a cool orris accord. It's a more than acceptable variation, nicely rendered for sure, but, to be frank, no new ground is broken here. If one has and loves French Lover, this would be entirely redundant.

Unisex, it is a beautiful vetiver perfume. A niche scent, elegant, easy to wear.

super creamy? green + creamy and the vetiver comes and goes

Earthy, creamy green as was mentioned, not so much ozonic nor woody, but still fresh enough. Angelica root is rounded here and makes cool dimmed ground for violet, that would be too loud and female in different scenarios, here it stays unflowered and reminds you of lush green rainforest. Problematic is the sillage, as it sits very close to skin only. After first hour it goes down to fougére soapy scent that is fine by all means, but not a niche fragrance so check the price accordingly...in the end its very nice colony scent that could work as signature for some.

Starts off fantastic, heavenly soft and inviting. In the end it's almost patchouli like (not listed in the notes) and you end up smelling like a hippie...

It’s powdery but not my type of powdery. This is dark, earthy and somewhat depressing. I don’t like it.

Disagree about the similarity to French Lover here. It has a similar bitter-tart "green" stemmy quality to it in the opening, but they take very different paths after that. FL goes into modern musky amberwoods, glowing with warmth, and an incensed, lean vetiver crossing into body odor territory. This goes almost leathery from the iris facets, with a cool yet sweet earthiness that feels a bit vegetal. Something like Fuschrot from Bode Studios is maybe more similar if my memory of it is still intact. Ozonic leathery concoction texturized by chalky-earthy components. Here it could come from the neroli and scratch of vetiver, or the carrot-like character of some iris material. Over the first few hours it was too sweet for me actually and it felt a bit crudely drawn. Not something I enjoyed that much.

WOW ! Delicious, botanical happy scent, incredibly well executed. Perfect to wear masculine. I sense a hint of spiciness that i would attribute to "ginger" but it's not in the notes. I love this. Such a great piece, so evocative and makes me feel like im in a green forest in a shady hike between green moss hills and tree roots on the floor, and like im taking a break and looking up and breathing in crisp cold air. The hike is by cold icy water. My brain dreams of a location it has never seen. Beautiful , elegant, as every well done botanical. Masculine fresh dna, airy and floaty.

I'm no expert, i got this as a free sample. It smells like my dad's old Gilette stick deodorant, or a shaving foam. I do see the greenery image, but if you're looking for fresh cut grass, it's not that at all imo.

Gorgeous perfume, quiet similiar to French Lover, however it lasted only 30 min on my skin

on paper, this smells like margiela (untitled)!
