Cypress

Very storied for a one note fragrances , imo, it takes me on a journey each time. I had an ex friend say it smelled like church incense, but I kinda liked that about it but I didn’t go to catholic school so if you did this might bring back memories for better or worse. To me it reads more coniferous. Opens clear and crisp, a whiplash of fresh spicyness, and a Smokey woody dry down thats still spicy lingers nicely into the late day. I like to layer this for something that’s strong but still green and fresh. This fragrance takes me to a secluded patch of pine forest with a heated summer breeze breaking thru the treeline, woody, fresh, green, and somehow a touch resinous, like pine sap on ur fingers, without being too clingy

Purchased a 10ml sample and didn’t have high hopes...by G*d was I wrong! This is everything that I look for in a fresh, green, spicy wood. There’s no ambroxan-bomb, no sweetness, no musk, it’s just a burst of spicy, green freshness. Absolutely going in my must-buy full-sized category. It just smells like a deep forest green dream.

This is an absolutely stunning scent. Similar to tdh but less musky and overpowering. A bit fresher and more citrussy 10/10. Does not last long and is expensive however.

Rag & Bone Cypress is a fresh cypress-dominant fragrance----soapy and green, a bit piney to my nose. The overall experience is fresh and woody, though, so it's akin to many Creeds, Guerlain Vetiver, etc. without being sweet, really. The vetiver and patchouli in the drydown keep it anchored to its natural smell. Performance is subpar for niche EDP, especially at pricing of $140 for 50ml, but the scent is nice enough that I might seek this out if it eventually becomes slightly cheaper. Simply because of the pine aspect, it reminds me more of Creed Epicea than anything else---fresh pine keeps recurring as an accord that I get out of this, despite cypress being the dominant note. In fairness, in their freshest state they can smell rather similar. Cypress ought to be versatile in a lot of ways, for winter and summer, men and women, and perhaps even day and night, though it's not serious enough that I would likely wear it at night except for casual lounging. Despite weaker performance than I was hoping for, I really like the scent and hopefully will procure it when it becomes cheaper. ***EDIT--upon further tries over the years, the similarity to Terre d'Hermes is noticeable and so it loses a point for that but overall it's still a nice fragrance, just less of a standout from the collection. 7 out of 10

Cypress is pretty straightforwards - woodsy and piney first, green and a little bit spicy, but dry and sharp instead of any of the sticky sweetness you might expect from a pine fragrance. It's like the high, sharp notes of pine layered on top of the dry woodiness of vetiver. I don't get many floral or citrus notes. It doesn't evolve much, and I don't notice a difference between how it smells on skin, on clothes, or in the air. It's simple but solid. Out of my small colleciton, it's become a go-to for me when I want to smell nice but can't pick out anything in particular - fitting this, it doesn't project too far but has pretty good longevity. I have to disagree with those who say it fades too fast. A few sprays in the morning before work keeps me pleasantly woodsy all day without getting in anyone's face about it. Overall a solid scent, though a bit pricey, but I find my bottle has lasted a long time!

I would describe this as an interpretation of Terre d'Hermes. Darn near a clone. The "grapefruit" note, which strikes my nose in both fragrances as more orangey, is identical, and the citrus-vetiver-cedar combo is extremely similar. This, however, lacks the mineralic note of TdH. Cypress also has the Rag & Bone DNA. The cypress note itself is powerful, especially at the top, and the cypress-vetiver-patchouli combination is quite reminiscent of Oddity. So overall, to me, Cypress is like the backbone of TdH blended with bits of Oddity. The cypress and patchouli make this woodier than TdH to my nose. Projection and longevity are much weaker than TdH. I like this quite a bit. For the price, I probably wouldn't purchase it, however, when you can either get TdH for much less, or for the same price you can get a much more original fragrance in Oddity, IMHO.

I'm a vetiver lover and so I'm inclined to like this, but make no mistake - this is a vetiver fragrance through and through. There's some bright, tart citrus, cedar, and coniferous notes, but dry, grassy vetiver dominates. I don't get any geranium or violet leaf, which is a shame. As a vetiver scent, there are dozens that are more interesting, but it's well-made and minimal. This leans a bit masculine and has average longevity and projection.

To my nose this is as much vetiver as it is cypress, and that isn't necessarily bad, it just is. I've always associated cypress with mourning, grief and endings, and receiving this scent the week my marriage hit the rocks for good has been a panacea. Somehow, there is a golden glow that emanates from cypress, and it is balanced here by the earthy vetiver and some fresh clean notes in the opening.

Very nice, but samey to something I already have, probably Dirty Hinoki. Being that I adore Diorty Hinoki, this is still a win for me. Dry piney woody without shriek or harsh edges. Nice!
