Encens

I've got this on order, and the description is this: RAG & BONE - ENCENS "Encens is a lightly spiced, incense-driven scent accented with black pepper, frankincense, myrrh, cistus, and an incense accord in the heart. Amber and musk in the base take the soft, introspective feel in sweet and bright directions simultaneously." Why Fragrantica has it simply as "incense" is beyond me. It seems like the descriptions of the ingredients in a lot of scents just get simpler all the time. Also, a lot of new scents don't seem to be making it onto the site. I've ordered a couple that aren't on here, and I've gotten used to looking anything up on here before I buy it because it's more thorough and most of the reviews on the site I order from are from total newbs and people who write reviews like, "Smells bad." "Smells like grandma." "Too strong!!!" and so on. Help! I count on you, Fragrantica! I got the fragrance, and this is my take: This is truly delightful, and perfect for the season of fir trees, snow, and gift giving here in the frozen North. I love this sort of fragrance at this time of year. I was lucky enough to get two this month: Encens and Fatale by Curatrix, which is another delight. Seldom do I get two such perfect fragrances at such a perfect time. The description on the card: Black pepper, cistus flower, myrrh extract, and woody incense - fairly close for a decant card.

This one is a bit of a heartbreaker for me. If it had a bit better sillage and MUCH better longevity, I would make this my signature fragrance in a heartbeat. I love the burst of pepper from the top notes, and I like any resinous or incense inspired scent, but it all fades incredibly quickly. I wouldn't mind reapplying if the bottle didn't cost 150 USD... which for me, in Canada, works out to more like 200 CAD. This truly is one of my favourite fragrances at the moment, but its poor performance and high price means that it'll be used to help me find others like it. I just don't know if I can justify a full sized bottle becoming a regular part of my collection or my signature.

Starting off with a neutral. I was hoping for something with a little more incense and not as feminine. Good for the fall or winter. Not over powering in any way. A very nice juice. More for my wife than myself. The struggle is real people.... After further review (June 2022), this is a very nice musky fragrance. I have revised to positive and this to me is more unisex (very slight femme vibe). Would be nice to layer for an additional musky undertone to another fragrance. Enjoy!

Oh my god this is gorgeous. It smells exactly like incense and it’s so clean and fresh and beautiful. I seriously just wanna douse myself in this. It would be absolutely perfect if it had better longevity and a bit more projection, it barely stays at all and I can’t smell it after 30 minutes :( regardless, I’m still probably buying a full bottle if it goes back on shelves.

I love this during a rainy stretch when everything is musty and people are starting to get cabin fever. I get a pleasant, dry floral scent that feels like a breath of fresh air in humid weather. I can generally pick up on the fragrance for 4-5 hours after spraying, but it sits close after the first 90 minutes or so.

I adore this! Not oriental spicy or the ‘heavy’ incense like you get from burning those cones or sticks. It’s lighter, fresher and cleaner than that. If you like sweet, juicy, or floral scents, pass this by. This and Oddity are my two favorites in the Rag & Bone line. UPDATE: Add Oud to my list of favorites

What an absolutely, hauntingly beautiful scent. It's not heavy but surprisingly light for such a complex fragrance. It is unisex, and I'd love to spray this on my man before going to sleep at night. It's alluring, mysterious and beautiful all at once. I just love it!

i love this so much, smells like an elegant witch with heavy incense and spices attached to her clothes walking through a dense foggy forest. very mysterious and sophisticated despite it being so simple. sucks its so expensive, and i believe discontinued

Such a clean and enjoyable incense, it fills the room with a cloud of powder and soft smelling woody incense.

Beautifully unisex. On me I get a lot of cardamom, citrus, woods, pepper and salt. It smells fresh, spicy and very clean, and the notes together blend into something like leather. I think this is a classy take on incense. I find that actual incense smells pretty gross and hippy-dippie (unkempt, kind of musty) but the citrus keeps it light and fresh. It's certainly not sweet and not floral, so if you like scents like that, go for it. I personally don't get a lot of musk and i find it quite appealing on a crisp winter day. I really like it but I do prefer the fruitier Malin + Goetz Dark Rum which fits the same fragrance category so I won't be buying a new bottle once this runs out. It can be worn as a signature I think, as it smells quite unique yet it still very inoffensive. Edit: I love this perfume. It's clean, crisp, yet technically part of the "spicy" scent family. It's perfect for office wear if that's the type of scent you gravitate towards as I don't see how it could offend anyone. It's also very unique--I haven't smelled anything like this before. I actually prefer this to Dark Rum and would buy a full bottle. It's perfect for year-round wear.

This scent is sat close on your skin wrapping you up like a sweater. Upon application the peppercorn note really shines and upon dry down the myrrh and frankincense took hold. This musky and amber scent was soft and inviting while being unique. The perfume is reminiscent of lounging in bed with soft orange light reflecting around the room while being wrapped up in the one you love. I am unsure why the only notes listed on fragrantica is incense when the scent is so much more nuanced than that.

Notes from the Rag & Bone website state: *Black Pepper *Incense *Myrhh *Woods I smell musk and maybe amber as well. Smells clean, woody, smooth, and ever so slightly smokey. I love it. Makes me think of a rainy fall day. Performance isn't great though, especially not for the $150 asking price. I'm now looking for something similar with a lower price tag or better performance.... NOTE: Narciso (white cube) gives me the same vibe as this fragrance...minus the incense and with more musk.

This is a beautiful clean incense smell. It doesn't have a vibe that I can describe or a gender because it's just pure incense, not too smoky and just the right amount of woodiness. Unfortunately, it doesn't last much longer than a few hours on me. I've started wearing it to bed though and it's perfect for getting cozy in clean sheets.

A good unisex incense scent that can be worn all year round. no complaints here but I'm not sure if I would purchase a full bottle or not.

From the card at the rag&bone store: Black pepper / cistus / myrrh / incense Top notes: black pepper, elemi, bergamot Middle notes: myrrh, incense, oliban base: cistus, amber, musk I'm a sucker for anything with incense, myrrh, and additional resins/ambers. So I should love this! This opens with a bang of pepper and fresh bergamot, with fuzzy myrrh and smoky incense clearly evident underneath. However, the dry down is a let down. Not sure how because there's only a bit of citrus, but it turns soapy on my skin, and then quickly disappears.

I was disappointed, but it's my own fault. This was my first ever subscription decant I'd ever received and I shouldipaid more attention to the accords than the solitary incense note. Maybe not for every skin, but certainly for mine, it was a lot more amber and spice than incense and it was just a bit too weak even for someone who is used to bad niche performance. Pretty boring.

Very masculine. I ended up gifting it to my dad. One day at lunch he sprayed it and when I came into the kitchen, I asked if he had sprayed lysol 😭🤣 I don’t think he ever wore it after that.

I was looking for Oddity, but that scent is currently unavailable. I thought I would try Encens, in the hope that it would be similar. It was not. To me, it was a weak, smoky smell that didn't last at all. I'm glad that I can return it, as it has no redeeming qualities at all. I wish I could explain the scent in a more detailed manner, but it didn't make much of an impact on my senses at all (unlike Oddity, which blew my mind every time I caught a whiff of it).

This is probably not the incense you are expecting. The Notes are as follows: Amber: Yeah a little Smoky: Not really Balsamic: Only just Warm and Spicy: Yes. There is plenty of warmth and an over dose of the spice. The Company is called Rag and Bone. And I don't know the name or the smell of the stuff you put on a rag to polish a bone but whatever that substance is, I would imagine that Encens smells more like that stuff. Not really a fan.

This goes on so darn faint. I had to soak myself to smell it. Then it reminds me of Prada L’eau Ambree a lot. Added more and got black pepper and mentholated wood. Definitely a minty feel in there somewhere. Licorice myrrh came in as it dried, with less pepper. Then on full dd, it’s peppery wood with an incense feel. The citrus is present all through as a sort of background feel, but overall it’s pleasant and wearable if super light and sheer. It really is a skin scent for most of it’s life, almost like a scented water, SO light. I really like it. It's like incense-light. fresh, crisp, easy to wear. But it won't satisfy true incense-lovers, as it isn't smoky or warm in the usual sense. It's just so very similar tot eh light, fresh L'eau Ambree.
