Genmaicha

This is one of my favorite fragrances, period. I find it incredibly unisex, and it does not lean masculine on my chemistry (if anything, I would say leans feminine on me). Overall, it makes me feel energized and upbeat and optimistic — yet grounded. I just went on a long, solo roadtrip and this was the scent I reached for more times than any other, as it hits that perfect balance of energizing without being sharp or citrusy. It's a smooth, rounded green tea scent -- probably closest to matcha without milk. Powdery in the same way matcha is powdery (not typical "powdery perfume"). The scent is fairly linear on my skin. Lasts all day, but I tend to re-up in the afternoon as a delightful pick-me-up and because I really enjoy the stronger projection. And, I often need an energizing pick me up in the afternoons! :) Both silage and projection are moderate for 4-6 hours, followed by another 4-6 hours of intimate projection (and almost no silage). I've almost gone through my full 8ml tester and will absolutely be buying a full bottle.

I absolutely love Rag&Bone Genmaicha so much that I only wore it twice before buying the full-size bottle. This fragrance is so special and unique. It's definitely unisex, maybe leaning a little more on the masculine side due to the freshness and woodiness. If you like Le Labo Santal 33, you may really like this. It has a similar smokey/musky/woody base, but with a refined freshness as well. The green tea balances out the woodiness in a really fresh way. To me, this fragrance smells really green, while still smelling a bit smokey. I also get a note of petrichor that is not listed, but it really does remind me a bit of the way the earth does after a rainy day. I will say this fragrance is not for the faint of heart - it's strong and possibly polarizing. But I think it's so unique, special, well made, blends beautifully into my skin. TL;DR - Smells like a rainy late summer morning the day after you had a bonfire with your closest friends, with a steaming cup of matcha in hand.

This is superb. It's clean, fresh, and perfect for warm weather without having any of the notes that generally bring summer frags down. No bitterness, no brininess. Just warm wood, light jasmine, and of course, the tea. The wood notes here don't read as cedar to me--- maybe more of a teakwood? It's not sharp or barbershop-y at all, which is what I associate with cedar most of the time. Really great alchemy within the notes present. Smoky, green, gentle but elegant. Top notes lean feminine, dry down leans masculine so it evens out into feeling unisex. Perfect for the office, brunch, or better yet, an outdoor wedding (tons of those where I am). I feel like this is the summer frag I've been looking for and I plan on buying a full bottle after I go through my decant.

I blind bought this a year or so ago, I am not even sure why. Probably because I was obsessed with matcha at that time and was making it daily. And as someone below me said, it was the most successful blind buy of my entire life up until a few weeks ago when I bought Iris Bleu. I LOVE this fragrance. Please don't insult it comparing it to a plastic mess that is Sunday by Arielle Shoshana. Genmaicha is pure unsweetened matcha tea, lightly starchy rice and amazing bright citruses. Calm and peaceful. It's such a shame that this doesn't get any hype whatsoever... a complete lack of advertising is to blame, perhaps. And yes, OMG, that bottle. When I am holding it, I do not want to put it back.

I got this in travel size and I loved it this summer, especially on 90+ degree days. I agree it's unisex and a bit more masculine at first. It smells green and bitter on me, but I swear it begins to smell more fruity sweet (and more femme) after a couple of hours and continues to get sweeter as the day gets hotter. I realized it on one such super hot day when I got into my boiling car and smelled something yummy, then after a few seconds I realized it was ME wearing Genmaicha (4-5 hours after application)! If there ever was a fragrance with multiple personalities it would be this one, or it's a Gemini.

Tried this at their store and liked it. Relaxing scent. Another time I layered it with Cypress which was really nice. Probably suitable for any gender and age. I’d be interested in a travel spray if they ever offer that. I would rock this spring through fall. Seems underrated. I’m 33, male.

This was the best blind buy of my entire life...

nutty, warm matcha, prepared the ceremonial way and not like an iced matcha latte from the local coffee shop. it's not super sweet which I like and think is unique; it's almost bitter to my nose but the rice note helps temper that. the nutmeg definitely pulls through here and it's a great compliment to the matcha. I don't get any of the yuzu or orange, but the bergamot makes it a bit dry, like tea powder instead of brewed tea. it lasts a while on my clothes, but it's super intimate; it creates a nice, relaxing scent cloud on me that only *I* can smell. this is one of my favorite tea scents, and I'm quite surprised it isn't talked about more.

performance could be better, but beautiful overall! it reminds me of yuzu tea i'd have in korea, but if i was having it surrounded by orange trees. yuzu can easily skew bitter but i think it's lovely here! the green tea comes through more on the drydown. overall rating: 🩷🩷🩷💔🖤 3.5/5

Opens bright, zesty, with green woods. A heart of tea and indolic flowers. Earthy, woody, fresh and just slightly creamy. Very gentle spices round the scent. Unisex, skews slightly masculine. Would like to test on skin to find out more. Definitely worth a sample.

Powdery, dry matcha. Not really smelling any rice here but otherwise it feels very clean and green to me. Gives me a headache + is too powdery for my liking (if you like le labo scents youd prob like this). Projects a normal amount but this thing sticks, I took a shower and it's still there 😭

Presentation is miles beyond lots of uber-high end niche brands - the box is beautiful, the bottle feels heavy and premium with it's frosted glass, and the cap is heavy and gorgeous and magnetically clicks firmly into place with the little glass inlay ontop despite the cool detail of it being a half-cap type thing. The scent is completely to die for - vegetal and nutty in the opening, drying down to a nice matcha scent. Not dissimilar to J-Scent Roasted Green Tea, but done in a different way. All of that said, what a disappointment that the performance is so poor. I was so excited when I got this and tried a sample spray - today, giving it a full wear, it's basically gone 4 hours after I applied it. It's still there if I bury my nose in my hand but I can't pick up on it at all without doing so. This scent wouldn't suit something that massively projects off of you, but I would like to at least be aware that I'm wearing it. Shame. Edit: This honestly does linger close to skin for longer than I originally thought, probably more like 8 hours before it's barely there anymore. I still wish it had more projection for longer but it smells so good I can't fault it that much. Definitely a keeper.

This was a blind buy for me because of the name. So bracingly astringent and over-steeped, it's just not my cup of tea. I only smell tannic tea, bitter, like citrus pith, and no toasted rice to round the composition. The bottle, however, is too pleasing to let go. It's frosted glass with a solid heft and rounded edges like sea glass, plus a satisfying, round magnetic top. To speak in terms of other tea perfumes, Genmaicha smells like Teo Cabanel's Je Ne Sais Quoi with the sweetish, powdery rice accord removed. Cartier's L'Heure Fougueuse IV also smells like it has Genmaicha under the hood. If you enjoy this perfume or think you might, Lotus Shadow by La Perla shares some of the same basic characteristics of Genmaicha. Lotus Shadow's juice is purple, so you may have to close your eyes to avoid an association with "purple" smells (I think this is the reason Halloween is listed among the similar frags even though they don't smell alike), but the similarities are there, and Lotus Shadow is much less expensive. Genmaicha is also persistent, if nothing else. The citrus notes that would usually be fleeting top notes seem to last forever.

This is a really beautiful mix of fresh and green but also warm and soft. It's gentle, elegant, rounded, never sharp. There's a masculine woodiness but like I said, it's incredibly gentle. I get more of the jasmine sambac and earthy matcha than anything else, even on first spray. I really don't smell much citrus at all, I can tell it's in there helping to make this a bit brighter and happier, but it doesn't stand out. This smells old but not in an old person way, more like an old place way. Like a tearoom in a library that's been standing for centuries cared for by spirits. It would make a great summer fragrance if you're looking for something outside the box of citrus, coconut, or typical white floral. I ended up gifting it to a male friend who's on the hunt for a signature scent because it reminded me of his vibe. He loved it and said it made him want sake

Citrus and high-quality, brewed green tea, with a hint of spice from the nutmeg. Dry down is fresh, steamed jasmine rice and powdered matcha. which is still beyond fresh and a little savory. Like going to the nicest Japanese restaurant at the fanciest resort. Best of Rag & Bone and a stellar tea fragrance.
