Elusive Tonka

Rai Phalail is a UAE-based fragrance house known for creating "inspired by" scents, and Elusive Tonka follows that exact blueprint. However, while much of their lineup targets designer profiles, this one steps confidently into the niche realm. The opening is clean and aromatic, featuring a bright counterbalance of citrus that cuts through what quickly becomes a very deep, rich composition. Once it settles, Elusive Tonka reveals itself as a thick, heavy amber fragrance that generously globs on the vanilla. That intense sweetness is expertly tempered by the warmth of the amber and a layer of spicy-sweet florals. To my nose, it is highly reminiscent of the warm floral-vanilla core found in Parfums de Marly’s Althaïr, but notably missing that sticky, heavy caramel weight. The overall result is a fascinating blend that manages to feel simultaneously nutty, soapy, and sweet. Though explicitly marketed to men, the prominent florals and smooth vanilla create a beautifully unisex design that anyone can easily pull off. It is a standout for the winter months, offering a comforting sweetness and a soft, spicy profile that excels in the cold weather.
