Polo Crest

Personal: 10/10 – It’s glorious, and one of the best green fragrances I’ve ever smelled. A favorite for a reason. Mass appeal: 7.5/10 – Not super agreeable by modern standards, but I still love it. Performance: 9/10 – Nuclear on my skin. It evolves beautifully too. Value: 2/10 – Discontinued, and current eBay prices make it a poor value. That said, I’ll still buy another because mine is almost empty. Uniqueness: 8.5/10 – A true green chypre with oakmoss character. Familiar DNA, but this rendition stands apart. SCORE: 74/100 Full bottle buy? YES, just because I like it too much. Blind buy? NO, current prices make it relatively unattainable, and unless you love Polo Green, just buy Polo Green instead. Recommend? YES, honestly the best version of Polo Green, and a chypre icon. Date night? YES, but more for nostalgic or meaningful settings than a casual evening out. Office safe? NO, too strong, too bold, and too old-school for most workplaces. Pros: Old-school chypre icon. Performs crazy well. Nostalgia for me, at least. Cons: Discontinued. Can make me a bit sneezy if oversprayed. Performs almost too well. For my eleventh review, I wanted to review my very first fragrance, which is one of my absolute favorites. This is essentially Polo EDT by Ralph Lauren but with different intensities of the notes. To me, much of the darker tobacco note is gone; instead there’s a more prominent green-ness without some of the herbal notes. Just feels like a lot of green woods. This, to me, is the pinnacle of masculine perfumery. It’s a chypre like no other. It bears much similarity to Polo Green but it’s the best version of it, by far. I also really appreciate the oakmoss notes. This is kind of like the “pilot” fragrance to Polo Cologne Intense by Ralph Lauren, with a less vegetal basil note. I found a half-empty bottle of this in my mom’s medicine cabinet. Supposedly it was my dad’s. I wore it in high school a few times, in my sophomore year, and it’s the scent that captured the heart of my soon-to-be wife. Every time I wear it, she and I are transported back into high school (even though it was less than a decade ago), falling in love all over again. This one always takes me back to simpler days. So I have a half full bottle of original Polo that my dad passed down to me and a almost empty bottle of Polo Crest.. When I first smelled both I thought that they smelled to dated and like an old man.. I never thought I would like them or wear either one.. As I got more and more into fragrances and my tastes developed things changed.. One day I sprayed the Polo bottle to see how it smelled again and I was amazed, something had changed.. It smelt so rich and unique! It is very powerful and a bit to over the top for me though but I love to keep it on my shelf and give it a whiff occasional.. Perhaps in the future I will try wearing it.. Than I got curious about the Polo Crest, so I sprayed it on my arm not long before I wrote this and all I can say is WOW! These two bottles took me to a whole different side of the fragrance world that I never knew existed.. Polo Crest smells amazing! It is still powerful but not as in your face macho like the original Polo.. The opening is like a blast of so many different things that I cant make out anything from it, it smells so different! It definitely retains a lot of the Polo DNA in it but it has its differences! It is more clean and not as dirty as the original.. Polo Crest is a powerful, sexy, exotic, and luxurious blend of herbs, spices, florals, leather, amber, patchouli, oakmoss, musk, and cedar! It smells very manly but it is so classy and luxurious! This is what real "masculine" fragrances are like, Polo & Polo Crest! If you are the type of guy that feels like these modern fragrances are not manly enough for you than you need some type of Polo.. Polo Crest smells a lot like the original but Crest is more pleasing to my nose.. Crest is so rich, deep, manly, dirty, but luxurious! There is some type of slight creaminess to this scent which is lovely.. I smell a lot of pine, cedar, jasmine, and just about every note listed! It is another lost MASTERPIECE! I can picture myself wearing this on a very special occasion in the future, when I want to feel luxurious but sexy in a very manly way!

After years of reading about and ogling bottles of this online, I finally came into possession of a bottle of this long gone scent...and I'm so glad I did. If the original Polo is the loud, gregarious brother who is always the life of the party, then Polo Crest must be the brother who sits only with those he feels most comfortable with. He is a bit more modest, but is no less self-assured than his loquacious sibling and even more refined. He does not approach a woman in plain sight in a shameless showing of male bravado. He seduces her quietly away from prying eyes. This is Polo Crest. The opening blast of oakmoss is much like that of the original Polo, but soon dries down to a moderate skin scent that is much more leathery and a bit more powdery than its older brother. Overall, I would much rather have Crest on the market than Ralph Lauren's current offerings. Sad that such a treasure was discontinued. Scent: 9/10 Sillage: 7/10 Longevity: 8/10

One of my all time favorites. Polo Crest is essentially the daytime or summer version of Polo Green. In my mind, RL never intended for this flanker to be more than a “limited edition” as they weren’t going to directly compete with themselves. Upon release in 1991, Crest’s big brother Polo Green was the undisputed heavyweight of the RL men’s line. That wasn’t going to change and RL either didn’t know how to market Crest to its consumers, or more likely, intended it to be a limited run. Lurking in development, a new heavily marketed flanker, Polo Sport, would go on to dominate the aquatic side of the pond in 1993. Dollars and scents. Polo Crest has an excellent composition with a very similar DNA to Polo Green, minus the tobacco, with an emphasis on the herbs / florals in the heart and cedar in the basenotes. Make no mistake, Polo Crest is an unparalleled treasure of masculinity in the world of fragrance. 5 stars!

i still have some of this wonderful fragrance and wear it every once in awhile, it still wows me with just how wonderful and manly it smells..always something nice heard about this one, i need to find some more one of these days. always liked the original polo but it was so strong sometimes it was a bit off putting, but this one has that similar vibe but so much quieter..but still gives you that fantastic scent trail, i used to have the aftershave balm and always loved the combination. fragrances come and go and some lose their popularity but you only have to get a whiff of this one to remember the magic.. thumbs way up..

its a beautiful cologne and good looking bottle. smells really good but its not worth the asking price nowadays . you have to be easy on the trigger every spray is a like dollar being spent . . to me i find it more refined then vintage polo but also weaker . to my noise there very much alike but vintage polo bottle green takes the lead still over crest because its stronger and basically has the same die down . there top notes are only difference mostly.crest is like a watered down vintage polo green but still great cologne and cool bottle looks great on a shelf next to the green polo

Yes this is so good if u love polo green but want something that’s less abrasive and dry and just less inclined to illicit negative reactions, go for this one. You can have scent May her companies formulate it for you if you can’t fibd an actual bottle. I recommend Haywardenterprises.com if you’re on a budget or scentmatchers.com if ur ok with spending 60$. This one polo crest is more cool relaxed and calm , almost has wet leaf smell melded in with the polo DNA. a slight Jasmine note in there with the leathery mossy woodyNESS

I recently started reacquire perfumes I used to have. It must be a season for nostalgia. Purchased this great oldie from ebay with a fair price. Oh how I miss the scent of my college years.....fresh , spicy, piney, floral. It’s quite sophisticated that I appreciate much more now more than then. Glad to have this in my collection. Next target to find a bottle of Jean Laporte Cascarille. Please help if you are will to part with yours. Cheers.

its a lighter take on vintage polo cologne from the 80's 90's . its brighter then the vintage mean green & more refined having almost all the vintage ralph lauren i love it but it needs multi sprays its incredibly weak projection ( possibly due to age ) its only drawback and price tag . its top notes smell delicious but fade fast running to base notes .

Polo Crest is similar to Modern Reserve, but stands on its' own. And, stands a little taller IMO. Wish they would bring this back. Fantastic fragrance - smells like a gentleman with a slight bend towards the sophisticated.

Wonderful scent! I wore it 27 years ago, it's a fresh , spicy and woody fragrance. This was one of my favorite fragrances. One of the best Polos , Too bad it is discontinued! Rating : 8.5/10

This smells like a MAN!!! The only scent I remember my dad wearing. It suits him perfectly. It's a very handsome fragrance, imo.

I wore this back in the mid 90’s and I already forgot about it and how it actually smell but cedar is what comes to my mind. Fast forward to cut to the chase, I am now a small time hobbyist and collector. I was just reminded of this fragrance as I was exploring the web a week ago. It was only then that I realized that this flanker or what not was already discontinued. I am not sure when but probably for quite awhile now. However I was able to buy a 15 ml vintage bottle from eBay at a fairly decent price for a discontinued fragrance and I can’t be any happier. Sure thing it’s not a big departure from the original, but the OG will always be the better one. This one is kind of mellow, has a little twist to it but nothing to hype about and I am not even sure if this is a sought after discontinued fragrances for hobbyist and collectors. I remember I bought this back in the days because the RL Polo lines has a commanding lead in the designers fragrance world that time. As I wear it again, memories starts coming back but for the juice itself, there’s not too much to reminisce since my nose could only remember 40% of what the scent used to be. I thought the rest wasn’t there before or my nose is just suffering from memory lost since its been awhile. It smells different now for some reason and I have no clue but the vibe is there, as I remember wearing this during office meetings and when I do my route to service my key accounts. At least it still evokes some precious memories. “Let us spread the scents of peace and kindness. This was a blind buy and based on the reviews and the fact that I'm a fan of the vintage Polo green, it seemed to be a no brainer. Luckily, I was able to pick up a bottle of this for a reasonable price. Since this fragrance was discontinued some time ago, it's not uncommon to find stiff competition in an auction. This a pleasant green-herbal concoction. The oakmoss is the most evident element with the pine being a secondary player and the wood notes, along with the musk are even further back. I could swear that I smell a bit of vetiver in this but I don't see it listed in the ingredients. Truthfully, after reading the reviews, I expected to be blown away and I'm not. It's a nice fragrance and one that I would wear on rare occasions, based on the fact that I have so many others that I like more. In my opinion, it certainly doesn't beat the vintage (Warner / Lauren, Cosmair) Polo Green. When I first opened the mail and sprayed the bottle, for some reason, it didn't seem like I could smell it, so, in quick succession, I sprayed it three more times. Bad idea. With a total of four sprays, projection is above average and longevity is excellent. As I write this, I've had it on for a bit over seven hours and it's every bit as strong as when I first sprayed it, with no sign of letting up.

A sweet but no-nonsense bright green scent. I think there's a little mint and cilantro which tend to remind me of the original, but I can handle this version, whereas the original is just a spitefully bitter green to me, and has assured me that it does not want to be my friend. (unfortunately, the Crest bottle is just as tacky and dated as the original). Other than losing its slight lemon edge after the top dies, I don't find much change over time with this one. The herbs noted earlier keep the brightness a little more under control than in Bowling Green, whose brightness persists too far into the base and wears on me a little bit later in the day. One problem with Crest is that, even though I don't recall the exact smell of Pine-Sol, some of the sharpness on certain isolated sniffs makes me suspect what people refer to as Pine-Sol in other scents. Maybe it would smell a little more empathetic and less authoritarian if it had just a smidgen of Paco Rabanne-style soapiness? Still, it sure beats the fanatical in-your-face drill sargeant of the original Polo.

I just bought a 4.2oz bottle 75% full. Now this wouldn't be something I would normally buy or be looking for, but after looking into it, it became a no brainer. I never really cared for polo green, though ive owned it and can tell if someone is wearing it. Polo green is just too harsh and overwhelming for me. Crest is definitely a more refined, less raw form of polo green. Though its a bit dated, classics die hard. In today's market of super sweet, unisex style fragrances, polo crest is a welcome and refreshing change of pace. If anyone is interested in purchasing my bottle, its available for the right price. From the 5 bottle gift set (Polo, the two Safaris, Lauren, and this). It's simply a lighter, brighter variation of original Polo, yet excellent. I don't think it's quite as close to Chevignon as some do as it's unmistakably closest to the original Polo. Were I a grown fragrance wearer back when Crest was released, I imagine I'd have chosen it over the green.

When i was a kid, back in the mid 1990s, I had two gymnastics coaches: Shane was quick tempered and tough on us. Michael was kind and patient. Just tried a sample of Crest and realized that Michael (who i haven't seen in 30 years) wore it, unquestionably. Two decades removed, I'm right back on the mat with him lifting me above his head to grab the rings.

Polo Ralph Lauren and Polo Crest were outfitters and sponsors of the America3 (pronounced "America Cubed") 1992 America's Cup yacht racing team. This was during my executive officer tour in USS LEAHY CG-16 in San Diego where the trials and finals were held. I became somewhat involved with the America Cubed effort - but not deeply enough to get me any free stuff (swag, not "schwag"). Polo Crest was a chypre that struck me as being as a lighter, step down from green bottle Polo, with a greater emphasis on citrus and florals in the top notes and less emphasis on patchouli in the drydown. The persistence and sillage were average. While I enjoyed wearing it at the time, its being discontinued didn't affect me one way or the other. All this - the affiliation with America Cubed, the lighter fragrance, strength, and sillage, and probably the connection with San Diego combined to make me consider Polo Crest as a Sunday-go-to-meeting (church) fragrance. I can't recall ever wearing Polo Crest dressed any more casually than khakis, an OCBD, and a tie and blazer.

I am Crestfallen over Polo Crest... With great expectations and anticipation I received a 2.5oz bottle of Polo Crest EdT Spray. First spray and it quite obvious this is a clone of its own big brother, Polo Green. All the same DNA, except PERFORMANCE. This juice is perhaps the weakest performing scent in my collection. Two hours later and it's all but gone. TWO HOURS...OR LESS!! I paid $80 for this dud. I love my Warner and Cosmair Polos, but Crest is a complete waste of money. Go to FragranceX and just buy the latest iteration of Polo green and you will have spent your money much more wisely than I did. DO NOT buy into the hype. It's all B.S.

This scent had already been discontinued when I came "on the scene". Many reviewers (elsewhere) praised this scent and I longed to have some for quite some time. My perfumed prayers were answered when Lana Lool sent me a very generous decant sprayer, and this was worth the wait (and no doubt) the hefty price paid for it. I was one of the many who loved original Polo on others, (used in moderation) but could not actually stand it on myself until I was almost forty!! Modern Reserve was something I fell in love with at first sniff (I have the 4.2 oz bottle and it is over 1/2 empty...that says something!) as it took the overly green and sharp original and "smoothed off the edges" as it were and gave it a modern slim-fitting suit as opposed to one with wide lapels and flaring trousers. Whoever said: "If you want something to replace Polo Crest, buy Modern Reserve!", was not too far off the mark. Crests have always signified class, style luxury and privilege. POLO CREST is no exception. Looking at those notes, I imagined this would be another "over the top" manly man aromatic that projected to the rafters and lasted for days, when nothing could be further from the truth. Even though lemon is NOT listed (bergamot is) I detect it. I get a clean and freshly citric scent layered with a superb blend of warm and subtle greens. Rosemary, juniper and basil...does it get any more verdant than these? Yes, actually it does, as some masterful Nose balanced these sharp aromatics with softer greens and warm caraway seeds. What a scent! The heart continues warmly but as the rowdy greens settle down refined and elegant masculine florals, like carnation and geranium, are balanced by rose and jasmine while pine keeps the whole "green" thing going; without overpowering it all (like a "Christmas tree" pine scent can). This is more of a hemlock or white/scotch pine scent...subtle yet there. The drydown of this classic male chypre has oakmoss (gorgeous) and cedar alongside a very soft leather and just enough patchouli and amber to smell luxurious and elegant, but still down to earth, without going all oriental. Polo Crest is done exceedingly well, and if you are looking for something "a cut above" most manscents this really is worth the investment. Classic, to me anyway, means having been around for more than one generation and still managing to NOT seem dated or trite. Crest is DEFINITELY a "classic", more so than the original mean & green, run you over with my pony and get a face full of grass original from the mid-seventies version is. Sillage: good Longevity: decent Overall: 4.75/5 More refined and regal then the original Polo but a bit more classic than Modern Reserve; this scent, despite being something that your uncles or dads may have worn, is and always will be something quality and very classy. This, despite being discontinued, is something that has stood the test of time and retains its quiet elegance while remaing very manly and luxurious without any haughty airs or massive projection. Class never goes out of style, really...

Polo Crest, sadly discontinued, remains in my opinion the finest masculine fragrance by RL. I like regular Polo quite a bit (although it's a touch difficult for me to wear), but for me this "refined" reinterpretation of RL's famed leathery chypre moves beyond the merely admirable and into the realm of truly breathtaking. Crest is basically regular Polo in miniature, with a fresh bushel of Herbs de Provence up top, and a rich cedar note down below. Rosemary, caraway, thyme, lavender, and artemisia are all present, accounted for, and very pronounced, especially the artemisia, which grows stronger as Crest dries down. Connecting the herbs to the woods is Polo, recognizable but slimmed down, with its leathery element clipped and its patchouli sweetened just a bit. The base exhibits a brusque, shimmering cedar accord, perhaps two or three different oils vying for attention, with all of cedar's fetid, aromatic, fresh, and turpene-like characteristics coming to the fore at various stages of wear. Artemisia, patchouli, and lavender remain detectable also, even after seven hours (longevity is pretty good). Oakmoss and pine resin also darken things and lend even more depth to the foundational accord. No longer available at discounters for reasonable prices, Polo Crest has been retired to the unicorn legion. However, if you like it and wish you could wear it daily, my suggestion is to go to your local Burlington (if you live in the U.S.A.) and find a bottle of Safari for Men, which is basically Polo Crest but reformulated into something Ralph Lauren could release globally, i.e., somewhat cheaper in execution, by just a hair, and also a little sweeter. I own both fragrances and although Safari lacks the naturalism and darker piney base of Crest, the same spicy-juniper and ambery-leather framework upholds its structure, a sort of fougère treatment of Crest's summer chypre. Forget paying $300 for Crest; just pay $40 for Safari and thank me later.

I've only done one dab-to-the-wrist sampling. For the first couple of hours, it seemed quite similar to Polo Modern Reserve, then it took a sharp turn towards the soft, smooth, powdery (not iris, but more of a powdery amber), and sweet, like amber had come to the fore, with some patchouli too. I guess that would be the reason to pay the current prices for it, because if you just want that first two hours, then either Polo or Modern Reserve would be better, because they last longer with that kind of scent. If there is pine here, it is blended well into the fragrance. I like this, but I don't know if it's a "must have," probably because the drydown is a bit too "nice." Longevity and projection/"sillage" are at least very good, it seems. Second wearing: Now it seems a bit more syrupy than powdery, but the interesting thing this time is that now it reminds me a lot of Red for Men by Giorgio of Beverley Hills (the original, not the reformulation). As with Red, you eventually get a woody phase with a pine element. Anyway, if you like the woody aspects of Polo Crest, I suggest sampling Caractere before spending a lot of money on it, because you might like Caratere better. If you're on a tight budget, you might want to sample Yatagan, that scent may have been the foundation upon which ones like Polo Crest were built. NOTE: After wearing it yet again, it seems that this may work best if you apply it as a fine mist, which my full-size bottle does.

Wow polo Crest. I have not smelled this since maybe 1994. As a matter of fact this was the fragrance that I wore at my junior prom. I remember getting a sample of this when I bought versace versus, which took me forever to save up for and buy. This was next on my list but for some reason I couldn't find it anymore. Anyway I digress. Back to the sample I had. Like many other have said it was like the green monster (which at that time I considered to be the ultimate un-affordable luxury)...It was similar but not as green and mossy, but rather more subdued and a bit more leather y. I remember liking it so much. I think I wore the whole sample that night. My brief stint with that fragrance was great. It was a great night and I can still remember the scent. it was better than the green monster and i liked the green monster alot back then. The green monster and kourous were what I thought real successful men should smell like back then.

Crest is a better execution of the Polo Cologne Intense Eau de Parfum idea. And released in 1991, more old school. It does share much DNA with the big boy (Polo Green), but it's not a "clone". It shares most of the notes, but the levels of each are different, there is no tobacco note, and these differences change the scent profile. Its fresher, probably the result of an increase in the level of bergamot. The fantastic green aromatic herbal notes is what I especially like in the OG Polo Green, but these are more subdued in Crest. I have grown to wish the '70's powerhouse pine green blast furnace of the OG was toned down somewhat, and I was hoping Crest would provide that. It does, but I wish the aromatic herbal influence was just as strong as in the OG. Crest veers toward a Floris 1962 type scent profile. A tamed, toned-down, reserved Polo Green. But that's what I wanted. Almost perfect but not quite.

If anyone remembers a soft reset mid 80s when Cosmair took over Polo from Warner, and instead of the slightly grassier zingier 90s Cosmair polo they eventually settled with, Cosmairs first Polo formula had a Smokey juniper nuance to it That's what this reminds me of. Interestingly less smokey though, with basil added similar to the Private Reserve yet not as tomato- salady and scratchy - far more smooth. Yet still smokey. This reminds me of the Polo DNA as simplified as possible - like a beautifully designed mannequin without the clothes on yet (No prominant pine, nor tomato basil like PR. Almost like it just sits in the mid notes. I like it. Not sure it's my favorite. Basically there is now FIVE versions of DNAS close to Polo Green and I'm here for it. (Warner, Polo Cosmair 1, Polo Cosmair 2, Crest, & Private Reserve).

So I was messing with my mum's dressing table, that's where i found some of my dad's perfume & this one here caught my attention immediately because of it's classic vintage bottle. Btw my dad barely wears perfume so the bottle is still half full. I gave it a spritz on my wrist & omg! Im in love!! It smells really manly and so different from the other man's perfume nowadays. Too bad it discontinued or else ill be recommending it to every guy who asked for suggestions. Truly masterpiece.

The greatest mens fragrance ever created by Ralph Lauren! Why they discontinued this scent will go down as one of the greatest mysteries in fragrance history. It was a more "modern" and "clean" version of Polo that was toned down, but still masculine and very wearable. RL released Modern Reserve which is the fragrance that is most similar to this, but if I could have only one RL fragrance for the rest of my life..this would be it!

@JmThms ive come to really appreciate your reviews. I recently saw an offer i couldn't refuse on a bottle of crest and bought it, so its coming. I wanted to ask, have you smelled the chevingon, and if so do you agree that theyre very similar? Polo green is my favorite fragrance to wear, and i own chevignon as well. The chevignon feels to me like they turned polo green into a fougere (i really enjoy it though)

So my dad gave me all his cologne and this was 1 of them It's the perfect Musk fragrance if your a Musk man. Everytime I put this on I feel very Manley Great stuff.
