Romance Parfum

I am very happy with this fragrance The original Romance was my signature scent in the early 2000's. I think I discovered it in 2000 or 2001. I haven't had a bottle since around 2006/2007. I was feeling nostalgic one day and smelled the current formulation a couple years ago, I was very disappointed. The scent in my memory was not the scent in the bottle. But this new Parfum version smells much more like I remember Romance. The sharp overwhelming floral I smell in the current Romance EDP is smoothed out in the Parfum making it a much more pleasant fragrance that I can see working in almost any situation or season (except very high heat and humidity). I would say this is a sweet, feminine floral fragrance. The notes that stand out most to me are rose and musk with patchouli giving a bit of depth. I think of this as a youthful fragrance, but I am aware this is likely because of my own history with the original. I imagine young people now will find this mature and more suited to a middle-aged woman (GUILTY!!). I find this fragrance has excellent performance and sillage. It lasts most of a day (7-10hrs) and sillage is a bit beyond arm length a lot of that time. I definitely recommend giving this a test if you were a fan of Romance and find the most recent formulation of the EDP disappointing. I would recommend testing though, because my memory could be faulty and this Parfum might just fit my current taste better.

A couple of weeks ago, I was at Ulta and saw a tester bottle of Romance Parfum, so I tested it out. I sprayed it on paper first and I really enjoyed the scent, so I tested it on my skin next to see how it worked with my body chemistry. I really like this perfume and would like to own a bottle sometime soon. From what I remember, it was a really deep, dark scent perfect for the winter season. I mostly smelled notes of deep, dark berries, but very juicy, sweet and ripe. I also smelled the rose, but it was a jammy rose, possibly due to the sweet berries mentioned. And finally a lot of patchouli, but a earthy, woody patchouli that's lightly sweetened. I found it to be intoxicating. Lastly, something about it reminded of Jimmy Choo by Jimmy Choo. They don't smell alike but I think the patchouli in Romance reminded me of patchouli in JC.

The first time I smelled this in store I fell in love but I also couldn’t bring myself to buy it. I finally caved yesterday after two months of sniffing it every time I went to Ulta. It’s noooothing like the original romance (Which smells like actual cat urine on me 😬). I think this one smells more romantic in my opinion and it lasts!!! I could see this working for all day/night BUT I don’t think this would be good for the summer. It’s so so so sweet, and not in a bad way, but I do think this would be a little too much for me on the sweet end for the warmer months. It’s as if flowerbomb nectar and flower bomb midnight had a baby and it’s magnificent.

This smells comforting, nostalgic, romantic, with a soft feminine hint of spice....like the perfume that emanates from the pages of Vogue magazine! Reminds me of getting issues of Vogue in the 90s and 2000s and just relishing all the perfume sample pages that all-together remind me of this scent.

A dumb reach, skirting the line between elegant and casual. Love the warmth and juiciness that endows my skin. The patchouli grounds it so it never gets sickeningly sweet. I’m racing through my bottle.

At first spray, this smells EXACTLY like the OG Romance to me.

My baby sister gave me a travel size of this for Christmas because she knows I like perfume and I think she got it in a gift pack or something. It's a nice rose-chouli scent, feminine, musky, sweet but not too sweet. I enjoy it! It's nice for when I'm going out on the town and want a scent I think will be universally liked and pleasant. I would lean this towards a safe blind buy if you know you like floral musks. I wont repurchase it after I finish my small travel one, but I've definitely gotten a lot of compliments on it so I really considered it but I'm personally looking to move towards more complex and interesting scents.

Whoa, I actually really, really like this. I am not familiar with the original Romance, so I can't speak of similarities. Romance Parfum is a truly beautiful, sweet, syrupy rose that is grounded by musk. A "good" musk, I must say, none of that modern molecular chemical warfare. Patchouli is also there, sweet and clean. Overall - lovely, especially for Ralph Lauren's price point.

Though it has a lovely sweetness to it, I wouldn't label Romance a fruity or flowery scent. The black currant is pretty grounded by the musk, and the rose is neither fresh nor jammy. "Earthy" is an accurate descriptor. I think this perfume is very versatile. One could use this at the workplace, on special occasions, or for date night. Definitely an easy reach for me.

Mass appealing, cool fresh rose scent that evokes 2000’s-2010’s vibes. Pretty but nothing special.

I was at Ulta recently and decided to have some fun sniffing some of the perfumes they had available. I saw Romance--which I absolutely adore-- and figured I'd spray some just because the beautiful scent puts me in a calm mood. But when I sprayed it, it was completely different! That spray I smelled was incredibly sweet and wayyy too young a fragrance for me! I was so worried that my beloved Romance was reformulated for the worse! =O ... but then I went on Fragrantica and found that what I was smelling was the new 2021 PARFUM... NOT the original Eau de Parfum that I love. Ah, I am so relieved. This one isn't bad. It just smells ordinary... lost amongst all the modern (in my opinion) too sweet fragrances. The OG EDP is the true star.

The parfum was reminding me of something I couldn't place and that was bothering me. I see here that it receives comparisons to YSL Mon Paris Intensement and the original Mon Paris. I've never smelled Intensement but I can see how people would think Mon Paris (as soon as I read the comparison a lightbulb went off because of how accurate that is!) although Romance Parfum is much better to me! It just does not last more than a couple hours. I can keep spraying every few hours and it just disappears. There's also a pink pepper, ylang ylang, and jasmine thing going that reminds me of the new Mugler Alien Elixir which is much longer lasting as well. This is a good spring fragrance but I wouldn't purchase it because of the poor longevity.

If you like Armani Si, but can't do the cassis, try this new Romance rendition. It's very similar to Si, but not as good. I'll use the sample up, but overall this isn't anything to go crazy for.

This is the loudest clean floral musk I have worn. It's lovely and I smell it all day. I don't get any patchouli or rose, however. It is peppery and floral and musky.

I recently tested this at a local store. On the test strip it was a dark berry fruitchouli, somewhat syrupy but with the same sort of sharp patchouli as Armani Si to cut the sweetness a bit. I decided to try it on my skin and almost instantly regretted it--within minutes the patchouli became more prominent as the berries receeded. The whole thing faded away to an extremely generic musky skin scent within an hour which was surprising considering it started off fairly strong. I also detected no connection to the original Romance, so I have no idea why they decided to add it as a flanker. Overall I found this to be nothing exciting and the longevity to be remarkably short for an EDP.

Quite a misleading name. Again, it should have been a separate release. It’s simply a modern, sickly sweet powdery berry smell. Nothing like the original. From my memory an EDP should be the same scent in stronger amount, not an entirely different one. It’s strong, boring, and on trend for the moment. A sellout.

I was so hoping to like this flanker. I love the name Romance and the bottle is very pretty w/ the silver/mauve thing going on. Romance Parfum smells very synthetic to me, from the beginning to the dry down. The beginning is a blast of black currant to the point you don't get anything else. As the perfume progresses it becomes a very synthetic musky rose. There is a plastic like coating all throughout the smell of this fragrance. I think the only thing it would be good for it air freshener and not even that, I'm afraid. Just downgraded this to a hate. Not a good one from Ralph. The original Romance was the signature of a good friend of mine that moved away. We still keep in touch w/ holiday cards but while the original is a good perfume it is more her style than mine. I do want a flanker of Romance but this one and the Beyond Romance are not the right ones for me.

I have this one on my left wrist and Si by Armani on my right wrist. I was hoping this would lean more floral but I also owned Tender Romance which smelled nothing like the original. I think RL is slightly more nuanced and stronger than Si but they are 90% twins. I can barely distinguish the two. If you already own Si or Mon Paris don't bother shelling out the money. I like the fruitchouli category but one big bottle is enough for me. If you don't own Si or Mon Paris, the composition is nicely done including sillage and longevity.

Romance is one of my mother’s signature scents so I was curious to try the parfum. Patch overdose! With the black currant and pink pepper this is verrrry grassy. A little bit of fruity sweetness comes out in the middle but this smells like walking through a forest in the spring. I don’t hate it but it has no relation to the aquatic floral beauty of the original Romance.

I already wrote a review on it and while I still think the aroma is generally pretty, I always pick up something that reminds me of plain graham crackers. I know that sounds absurd and nothing in the ingredient list screams honey and sweetened baked flour but there's a gourmand spice to me. Must be the pink pepper.
