Safari for Men

I like both Ralph Lauren Safari and YSL Jazz, although both as they are currently formulated seem to severely lack performance. Yesterday I sprayed one end of a test strip with Safari and the other end with Jazz, and I simply could not tell them apart! They are very similar. Interesting how fragrances from various houses across the industry can so closely resemble each other in a given era. I guess whatever the zeitgeist of the time is. These two frags were released within 5 years of each other - 1988 and 1992. Another fragrance released in 1992, Salvador by Salvador Dali, shares much of this scent profile. I really like the scent profile but I can barely smell them after a ton of sprays to skin and clothes. I've heard that YSL Jazz in the recent La Collections line, the one I have, is particularly watered down - the worst in that regard from that line. Not sure about Safari but it is not a performer. Im wearing it today, the day after wearing Amouage Bracken Man, which is an absolutely stellar performer. Maybe it's not fair to compare the performance of Safari and Bracken Man, but there is a night and day difference. I've never tried vintage formulations of either of them. But at any rate, Safari for Men is a fantastic scent profile. Woody Aromatic with Fougere touches, or maybe you could say Spicy Woody Aromatic Fougere. Lavender does so much for these vintage scent profiles. There is a bit of slightly bitter roughness with the artemisia and coriander notes, with a slight screechy clean abrasiveness with the aldehydes. There is also an orange-iness to the scent, even though no orange note is listed. Combined with the aforementioned bit of slightly bitter roughness with the artemisia and coriander notes, you could almost say this an earlier variation on the "dirty orange" vibe made popular with the later Terre d'Hermes.

My husband has worn Chanel Platinum for 20 years, which I love. And it will always hold a special place in my heart because it’s what I’ve always known him to smell like. But while I was at Dillard’s buying shirts for our oldest son, a scent hit me like a ton of bricks. Someone was testing colognes nearby at the Ralph Lauren counter, and they all smelled nice, but sweet juicy tart and not TRULY masculine - typical of today’s more popular men’s fragrances. After every new test spray reached my nose, I wanted to tell the 20something guy who was testing them, “Nice. But nothing special. Keep trying.” Of course it was none of my business, though. I continued shopping for shirts enjoying the general smell the test sprays created whoke being disappointed by them at the same time. THEN the last Ralph Lauren fragrance the clerk had behind her counter was sprayed, and I was like “YUM YUM YUM! I MUST have that!” It was Safari. It’s confident, oh so sexy, oh so MANLY but with a sophistication. It’s like a millionaire who owns the most gorgeous made to measure haute couture suits and leather oxfords with fun socks though - a sense of humor not taking himself too seriously and still humble, who also cuts his own firewood in the woods on weekends and occasionally wrestles an alligator to save a child- just once every year or so when he happens to come across such a emergency situation ;) It’s everything that attracts women to men. It smells hard working, classy, sexy, confident, MANLY, but sophisticated manly. It’s like a potion. I swear. Gentleman, try this and the ladies will love you for it!

Im SOOO GLAD and thankful that I get to read these super helpful reviews you good people take the time to wtite before I end up making a bad purchase! I HATE IT when I spend my hard earned cash on a fragrance which used to perform exceedingly well, to then get a new (reformulated) bottle with atrocious performance! I just dont see how or why it's necessary to NEUTER these classic fragrances man! There's NO EXCUSE! look at all these very inexpensive, crazy-good performing "Clone/Cheapie" fragrances out nowadays which also conform to IFRA regulations!! So don't gimme that BS about new regulations etc, its complete BULL and shame on these companies for RIPPING-OFF their devoted customers who refuse to conform to today's trends, and look to their favorite, classic brands for a great vintage dna to just be completely let down by the quality of the current batches! Some of these brands are NOW a complete RIP-OFF! I'm lookin' at you Ralph Lauren POLO, Dior FAHRENHEIT, and possibly THEE WORST Guy Laroche's DRAKKAR NOIRE which still smells great but is gone in about an hour tops, and many, MANY MORE! And then in some cases to have the AUDACITY to still charge upwards of $80 for their now cheap ass smelling reformulations! Wth man! Aaanyway, thanks to whomever took the time to read my Cra Cra Rant! Lol, but I keep getting burnt by these older brands.. They need to get their heads out they arse, and honor their devoted consumers by giving us atleast "decent reformulations" have they NO PRIDE in their flag-ship frags?? Jeeees!😌🙄

Well HELLO beautiful SandleWood dry down! Why isn't YOUR PART brought up more often during reviews cuz I had NO IDEA!?? Oh Man! Safari for men smells pretty amazing! Not super classic/Old School, but def a more mature 90's style frag. From my brand new bottle Im getting moderate to good longevity (5 to 6 hours) and MAN!! Safari smells so good! The opening somewhat reminds me of Aramis' - New West with the way the Citrus, Green notes and Aldehydes are used along with a hint of that Leather from the base, but as it dries down that GORGEOUS, creamy "Classic SandleWood" sets Safari apart and is just to die for! Plus those basenotes really do stick around for a long time once the top notes fade albeit giving more of an intimate sillage at that point, but as most of us know, the performance almost always improves with maturation so Ill be back with an update within a month or so to report. Still tho, Safari still smells really great and currently has decent performance so if ya'll enjoy that creamier, "Non-Pickle Juice SandleWood" then this fragrance is a definate must in your collection. Thanks to whomever took time to read my review.. An 8.5 outta 10 by Ralph Lauren....CHEERS! P.S. (IF) anyone also owns Aramis'- New West, try doing a spritz over a couple spritzes of Safari. They really do smell alike in the opening and therefore blend perfectly together making those top notes and the whole experience last longer. Again tho, Safari is AMAZING on its own as well!

This is a great fragrance. I first discovered it in my 30s, in the 20aughts, more than 10 years after it was released. I have a Cosmair rendition, though I had no knowledge of such things then. I only recently bothered to look and see after reading reviews here. Mine performs well, projects modestly and lasts modestly. I'm not great at picking out individual notes, but one of my favorite aspects of Safari is the airy eucalyptus note that floats above the well-integrated heart and base. It's what has some using 'fresh' to describe this, but it's not a freshie. It's not heavy either. It's just well-balanced, and well blended. It may be synthetic, but, if so, the overall effect is very pleasant and easy to me. It's not a freshie, but it's fresh-scrubbed. It's not a sport fragrance, but it's a little sporty, in an outdoor way. I can see why some use the 'barbershop' term for it, but it's not as bristly as some barbershops. In a word, it's balanced. Cool and warm, bristly and smooth, dry and semi-sweet. I've loved this fragrance since I discovered it, and continue to even as, in my 50s now, my fragrance interest has greatly expanded, and is recently expanding. I had a great shave today, with shave soap, brush, and DE razor, and this was a perfect finish to it for a Saturday. The persistent dry down is a clean soapy leather, like I'd imagine a leather strop to hone a shaving blade might smell.

i just love this fragrance. safari is a very manly scent, clean and complex. to my nose is a mix of ysl jazz+hermes rocabar+ floid the genuine aftershave. many compare it with cartier pasha but i never tried it. it's spicy but with a dusty-earthy-orangy taste, there's some freshness tipical of a barbershop smell, everything with a touch of leather that gives u more manliness and the oakmoss that uplift the composition. there are lavender, cedar, bergamot...a lot of things here. this is the smell of an adventure, the name fits very good, and the color of the juice too. this fragrance is better for people over 30, good for every season, better in spring in my opinion. good performance, projects strong during the first hour. which movie character reminds me? well, in my opinion safari is indiana jones. a bit rude, a bit classy, a man with confidence and culture. indy is my favourite movie character ever, so safari has a soft spot in my heart. the review is based on a vintage bottle. il profumo dell'avventura. scent-9 long-7,5 sillage-8 versatility-8 uniqueness-9 bottle-8,5 compliment factor-7,5 my vote-9 in one word-adventure update january 2019: it's true that pasha from cartier is close. they are similar for the 70-75% in my opinion. safari is more leathery, pasha is more spicy-oriental. alternative- cartier pasha edt

My introduction to Safari was around 1995 and someone I lodged with at the time had a bottle of this on show in the bathroom. He had many fragrances, he had plenty of cash and loved to spend it. I wasn't quite as well off income-wise at that time so I often sampled his collection (sometimes with prior approval, sometimes not!) This was the one that stood out to me though, I probably drained his bottle by half, much to his annoyance. It was out of my price range back then but I've loved it ever since. Fast forward 20 years and I reacquainted myself with a 125ml bottle of Cosmair era Safari. It wasn't as powerful as I remembered but still above average and I'm more restrained with my application than I was in my youth. 4-6 sprays and it lasted the whole day. I've seen this in stores recently and read about the absymal reformulated versions. I don't want to sample those and ruin what's been a long term relationship with this great scent. When I wear this I feel confident, this remains one of my favourite fragrances. EDIT: I was applying my ADP Colonia Intensa when the nozzle broke after only a spritz or two, so dissatisfied, I decided to go with my Safari that day. The two combined smell amazing! I had inadvertently stumbled onto an excellent layering double act! If you own both then I suggest giving it a try :)

Dang. How great is this juice. Near aromatic perfection. The first sense you get of a perfume is with the eyes. What you see with the bottle is brown liquid in a beautiful brandy/whiskey decanter design with a 1800s British trading company style logo. And with Safari as it's name, I can't help but get a feeling of adventure and exploration when i look at it. Now the scent. It's aldehydic at first, but not overwhelming. The top green and floral notes settle and mesh with the herby tarragon and spicy clove. It's not loud and doesn't fill a room, but it makes you smell fresh and classy af. The leather is not a prominent note, on my skin anyway, but what does surface is the oakmoss. Man, I love an oakmoss note and this shines on me. I don't get much of a sillage for very long, but the skin scent lasts on me all day. This just smells so good and evokes energy in me, like I'm ready to take on the day when I put Safari on. FYI, the notes listed on this site don't exactly align with the description on Ralph Lauren's website, which is: Top Notes: Lemon oil, Bergamot oil, Tarragon oil, Eucalyptus oil Mid Notes: Rosemary oil, Geranium oil, Lavender oil, Clove oil Base Notes: Vetiver accord, Oakmoss accord, Patchouli accord, Leather accord

Basically, there where 4 fragrances with a similar vibe (aromatic woods) that I needed for my collection that were part of my high school and college experience: Eternity, XS, Tommy by Tommy Hilfiger, and RL Safari. I've already acquired the other 3, and I have both the OG and modern Eternity (really don't smell that different), and OG XS & Tommy. I just got a decently priced Cosmair of Safari on Ebay. This stuff still smells great, the only negative of the old bottle is the metallic coat on the front plaquet is flaking off a little. Still, I am happy to have it in my collection! I am also curious to know how the new & improved fragrance is compared to the vintage version. I had a vintage bottle of Eternity but resold it because something smelled off. I happened to pick up a mini bottle that was vintage but still smelled good. I had not tried the current formulation, but I also happened to pick that one up, and guess what? Not very different. Same with AF Fierce, come to think of it, and also Kiton. Now I'm curious to get my nose on a brand new bottle and see who is right -- reviews here are highly divided as to if it matters for Safari.

Just got a vintage bottle in today and to my nose, yes, it and Pasha (which I love) could be the same guy at different times in life. Yet while similar the two are near opposites in texture. This is lighter, fresher, and more mossy. This feels.. dryer. I see it kinda like this, so Safari means journey or travel, Pasha is Safari after he's traveled a bit, stopping by a spice shop along the way to escape the sun. Some of the spices there clinging to his light perspiration mixing with his aftershave. It's the same classy gentleman in essences, only less fresh, more spicy and slightly more sexy and provocative after fully mixing with body chemistry and environmental elements. That's Pasha. Safari is before all this happens. When I saw the two compared I knew I'd love Safari as well. And I do. I try to avoid blantant redundancy in my scent-drobe, but there are certain scent profiles that I enjoy so much that variation is welcomed. And between the two of these, the stories of both are extended forward and backward in a way I can enjoy in my personal artistic interpretation and practically. So I would really like to give y'all my honest opinion about Safari by Ralph Lauren. I think that Safari is a very very nice light spicy cologne and it lasts on my skin about 5-6 hours max. So giving my honest opinion is that it smells very fresh, sporty and is definitely the best cologne to wear anytime of the day whether after taking showers or going out and playing sports especially would be the suitable time of the day to wear it. I also find that it stands out a lot more on teens like me who is 18 and as well on young men too. I don't find that Safari even smells close to an old man in my opinion and mostly smells more young. So if I had to either choose Safari or Polo Green. I would choose Safari to be weigh weigh better as I find and while some most probably others find that Polo Green 100% smells like an old man and would not suggest any teens or young guys to buy and would only suggest guys like 60, 70 and up. So I think that between both colognes, Polo Green should've discontinued weigh before in the first place as Safari should be the one still continuing in the market.

Less Hemingway and more David Niven (sporting polo neck under a blazer). An elegant sense of balance is key to the success of this fragrance. Immaculately blended; the seamless transitions between soap, florals and sandalwood are charming and give the impression of a relaxed, classy but unpretentious gentility. The opening sparkles and lifts wonderfully off the skin. The mid dry down consists of jasmine,sandalwood and bergamot; all so beautifully layered, that it's impossible to exactly trace the moments of shifting emphasis. The far dry down brings soft musk and carnation - a muted and for me, melancholic, coda. It's a fragrance rooted in a feel for the men of the past - and in particular men with an insouciance and a certain softness that is only possible only when there is real strength of character. It is short lived, but the sort of "gent" a fragrance like this exemplifies, is the kind of a chap who wouldn't want his perfume to overshadow that of his companion.

A memory of the past - Safari By Ralph Lauren - Reviewed 09/14/24 When I tested this scent at my place of work, I was overcome with a sense that somewhere before I had come across it before, it only made sense when I found out that in my youth it had been what my father had worn himself. To me the cinnamon notes are the most prominent, it reminds me of a warm cup of tea. Splashes of lemon juice and spices bring you a summery sort of warmth, like the months between the two seasons it has hints of the upcoming fall weather. A scholarly, vintage sort of ambiance, nostalgia for the masculine influences in one's life. It lasts well on me unlike many other things, and at the price point there isn't much to complain about if you're looking for a more affordable bottle. The scent lasts a few hours, slowly dwindling down to its most peppery notes. While not my signature scent, on occasion there is a vibe that must be met, and this perfectly fills the quota.

Of the classic Ralph Lauren frags, this is my favorite, better than Polo. I finally got my hands on this one after decades... Missed this one a lot, timeless scent! While its not the powerful blast it used to be back in the 90's, still is a good performer and it will project nicely for 1 hour or so. Fresh and woody, "aromatic" is the best word to describe this. Masculine and gentleman-like, the green in this is not sharp, but smooth and light. The lavender in here reminds me of something very unexpected: Blue Jeans by Versace. Yes, they have nothing to do with each other, but the lavender is so similar and sticks out in a very similar balance, it's interesting to see how a single note can tie two completely different frags in your head (or nose). This is a sunny spring-fall weekend in the golf club type of scent, meaning its laid back in a sophisticated and exclusive way. Age for this i'd say 30+. Safari is an art piece to me, just love this.

I think reading the notes while wearing this is interesting. It has a singular scent in effect, like how it actually wears when you arent analyzing it. But if you actually sit down and try to pick out notes, weirdly, you can easily for most of them. I would assume many accords are sharing ingredients with different other accords, but its cool how i can pick out the tarragon or the cinnamon or the jasmine (comes off like hedione to me) and whatnot. This truly is extremely complex, at least in the old cosmair version that i have. Does smell similar to pasha de cartier edt, but pasha is more of a cumin heavy and less complex fragrance. I like both very much and i dont see someone loving one but hating the other lol. If you want to experience a quality old school masculine fragrance in a vintage formula, this is definitely not the most expensive option and its really good.

I agree with everyone saying the reformulation sucks. If you want a replacement that smells more like it used to and has great performance try Ungaro Pour Homme III. It's nearly identical. It also has a strong similarity to Tsar which can't be found anymore too. Did I mention it's dirt cheap too? Yes, like $15 on most sites. Highly recommend. As for the Safari review. One of the greatest fragrances for men ever created and certainly the greatest from Ralph Lauren along with Crest. I discovered Safari back in 1995 when it first came out. At the time, it was quite different to the 80s powerhouse scents that I saw as being sold in my mall. Long lasting, elegant, yet tame and not at all over-bearing, Safari works really well in the summer or winter for me. It is also contained in what is probably one of the most elegant bottles for a designer scent in fragrance history.

Growing up in the 90's, my dad wore Polo Green — I wore Safari. Today, I proudly own two vintage Cosmair bottles: an aftershave splash and a spray, both adorned with that iconic Ralph Lauren crest, housed in the weighty, colonial decanter-style glass flacon. Proper heritage. I’m wearing this now in 2026, deep into winter, and it feels absolutely right. Not dated — in fact, I feel far more age-appropriate wearing it now than I ever did as a kid. Maybe I was a little young for it back then... but that was the fragrance landscape of the time, and I loved every second of it. One of the best Ralph Lauren fragrance offerings, if you ask me. Unashamedly bold. Spicy. Masculine. Timeless. And honestly... don’t you just love how fragrance can take you straight back to a place in time?

this is my boyfriend's signature cologne. i love it so much, i'm basically obsessed with it. it has a ton of sex appeal. it's sweet, it's spicy, it's addictive. it's a classic and traditional masculine cologne. the note pairing in here is to die for. i absolutely love how it smells on my boyfriend. when he wears it i primarily smell those strong base notes of leather, cedar, sandalwood and amber. i also get those sweet and light lavender notes, along with lemon and jasmine. it smells so clean and fresh, but the cedar and leather cuts through that freshness for a more masculine fragrance. i have a ton of memories attached to this cologne as it has been my boyfriend's for years... i honestly dont think i can go without this cologne ever again. love love love. ♡💌

I respect how many reviewers are reminded of their Father's by this nostalgic and timeless classic. Yes, this fragrance has been reformulated however, I personally do not need every fragrance to be a "beast performer", whatever that means. I purchased this fragrance to remember how my Father smelled and Safari does that perfectly. Now on to the scent. Perhaps the best way to describe Safari is warm – like the first warm days in spring or the last warm days in fall, it’s suffused with sunlight, those slanted, late-afternoon rays you want to soak up every last drop of. Ralph Lauren Safari...a classic masculine scent that deserves a place on your shelf with or without the reformulation. Performance for me is upwards to six hours which is perfectly fine.

There is a lot to like about this fragrance. I see it easily as instant blind buy based on the bottle design alone. But man, things also start happening when you spray it on! The opening is extremely pleasant and fresh, with what I would describe as a smell of hay in the best sense possible - it feels ad if you hid in the sun-scorched grass of savana not to scare away an antilope you are about to shoot (by camera of course). Drydown steers more towards fougere, chypresque smell and reminds me my favourite Polo Green. The only disadvantage is slightly lower performance. Particularly initial opening whiffs quite fast. But what the heck, it is EDT after all. Really pleasant alternative for all who consider original Polo Green too dense or mature.

I blind bought this for myself based on the notes. I was not disappointed. I absolutely LOVE this. I read somewhere (can't remember where) that this would be how Ernest Hemingway would smell, a strong, thoughtful, opinionated, educated older man with impeccable taste. However. I'm 26 years old, and unfortunately, this fragrance is far too old for me. I love it dearly, and so I gifted it to my father (62) and it fits perfectly. He smells great, the house smells great, and I get to enjoy a fragrance just as much as him but without having to wear it myself. Don't let that put you off- if you want to wear this yourself, go for it, seriously. It's a spicy, aromatic, perfectly balanced bouquet of manliness. Just a little too old in style for me.

I had often considered Safari in the past but somehow kept bypassing it... Until recently! I stumbled across an early vintage 125ml bottle with "Cosmair" on the box. Two sprays either side of my neck around 6pm before work. It's not nearly 1.30am and I can still smell it on myself. By no means a monstrous powerhouse but the original formula is a persistent and assertive fragrance. It has a classy smell, I can definitely pick up the leather notes. Wood and spice, it has a Warmth to it that has a comforting cosiness to it and leaves you feeling confident. Cannot speak for latest formulations but I might pick on up just for casual use and save the vintage for special occasions. Definitely worth seeking out the vintage if you can.

@WittyUserName I agree on the bad performing latest Safari product. Bought a 125 ml for the first time in my life about 4 months ago, expecting a powerhouse fragrance. What a disappointment, although not bad smelling, it is quite weak and only lasts a couple of hours at most. I have managed to source a "3 batch code", from the early 1990's Cosmair made, from Europe last month and I am happy with the item. The added spice and oakmoss does give it a more classy vibe. Don't get me wrong, the newer formulation is not bad smelling but it is lacking the depth of the original. I end up layering the two, so not to waste the newer formulation that should really be named "Safari Light" by law. 8.5/10 for the original product.

I remember my dad wearing this fragrance when I was a kid. Fast forward about 30 years, I came across this fragrance at an estate sale of all places. I bought it just because it was a deal at $5 for about half a bottle. I don’t know what year or batch my bottle was made, but the bottle I have is a beast. Longevity and projection is great! I love it! It’s classic! Smells like confidence, money, and I get compliments almost every time I wear it. It’s different from most of the modern unisex fragrances out there nowadays. I don’t know about newer batches, but I may have to buy a bottle soon because I’m almost through the bottle I have. If you like classic masculine fragrances, this is probably one you’ll like.

I don't know why I keep thinking this is Rugged Lavender-Oakmoss. Don't know if that's even a valid classification. I see the citrus, leather and all the other notes in the official pyramid, but I guess they're all blended well enough that my poorly trained nose can't sense them individually. What I do get is a calm, sophisticated, mature scent that someone successful would wear. And I love it. Love it well enough to want it for myself. This lasted 3 hours on me, and while it did, it projected decently - say, 3 feet away. Safari is my 3rd favorite in the Ralph Lauren line (behind Polo Green and Polo Blue EDP), and a solid pick for my collection. Full Bottle Worthy (especially with that beauty of a bottle).

I wore this stuff when I was younger, I wanted to seem more mature than I actually was. It hasn’t been in my weekly rotation since the 2000’s, but I think that my age is starting to catch up with this scent. This doesn’t smell old, but the scent pairs a little better with who I am in 2023 than it did in 2009. This is surprisingly fresh, invigorating and luxurious. It’s definitely spicy and quite aromatic, at least for the first 30 minutes. This tells people a lot about the wearer; you’re a little traditional, thoughtful and well-kept. I’d honestly wear this just for myself to enjoy when I’m feeling nostalgic. Worth trying if you want an old school barbershop scent with a masculine, rugged yet classy feel.

Ralph Lauren safari The smell is perfect, and seriously this is one of the best smelling fragrances I have smelt. But the problem in the performance.. it's weak.. I read lot of reviews below about the reformulation of this fragrance.. so I believe that is the reason of the weak performance, because I tried it for the first time and I don't know how it was before. Hope if the Ralph Lauren company can fix the problem with the projection and the performance of Safari.. since it's an expensive fragrance! If they do that .. really I will make it my signature scent. I loved it but I'm not sure to pay about $100 to buy a weak performance scent again. It must be stronger and high quality for this amount.

I have worn this to work a couple times now. I would say this is old school but not "old man". It has a spicy, rugged, leathery feel. It's complex and interesting, but well blended in my opinion. It reminds me of a few others in my collection (Red for Men by Giorgio, Enrico Coveri Pour Homme, and Pasha by Cartier). I like Safari more than all of those. I get good performance on my skin. I still get wafts of the scent well over 8 hours, with just 2 sprays. Not sure if this will be ideal in super high heat. I noticed when walking outside on a sunny day that the animalic notes are amplified in the sunlight (but it still smelled great). But overall I would say it's a casual 3 or 4 season scent.

It is a great Spicy Woody scent, Classy, Crisp, Clean and Nostalgic, It smells so good and very pleasant, It reminds me a bit of Emanuel Ungaro III but it is not the same. A lovely Timeless Classic Perfume with good notes and composition. It opens up with like creamy fresh spicy, green and floral notes in the background then dry down is musky, woody and a bit leathery. This is perfect for the all seasons , I really enjoy it and I love Safari for Men EDT by Ralph Lauren. The art of bottle design is very Unique and Wonderful, Similar to crystal with Ralph Lauren Crest. This review is based on the new reformulation , Longevity is Average. Thumbs Up. Rating : 8 / 10

This review is from a decant of batch SGXD0WU from Dec'23. This stuff is dirt cheap and excellent. 37 fougeres in my collection and this is top 5. I applied 3 sprays and had strong projection for 2 hours and then did a 2 hour gym session while in a masculine scent bubble. I got 5 hours total performance before it turned in to a skin scent. I have made an offer on a vintage splash bottle as I see the performance was much better under Cosmair. Even 90s bottles go for less than $100 and I will gladly pay that. This is so much better than a couple that I have spend over $200 on. Purchase with confidence if you are after an old school barbershop fragrance. 8.5/10

I first fell in love with Safari back in 1996 when I was sixteen. My uncle had a bottle, and I used to "borrow" it often—until I finally bought one of my own. Like Hugo Boss, this is one of those nostalgic scents I’ll never stop appreciating. Is it as fantastic as I remember? Honestly—yes. It’s fresh, yet woody, with a refined character that feels made for a tuxedo-wearing gentleman. The floral notes add a unique lift, giving it just the right amount of elegance and flair. What’s even better is how it lingers—smelling it on your shirt the next day, it’s still strong, fragrant, and undeniably masculine. A timeless classic that continues to impress. 9/10

My buddy brought in Zarahoff signature pour Homme the other day and let me try it at work. I really liked it. Yesterday I go to the mall to pick me up a new bottle of Sauvage since my other one is almost gone. Anyway as I was checking out I asked to test this because why not? Anyway as soon as I smelled it, it instantly reminded me of Zarahoff Signature PH, however this one came out in 1992. So Zarahoff actually smells a lot like this one. It’s clean, masculine, fresh, and woody! This fragrance screams I’m a man who knows what I want and I go get it! The patchouli I get in this fragrance is superb! I’m going to buy a 4.2oz bottle today!

Smells like nostalgia in a bottle. It's warm. It's spicy. It's citrusy. It's all of that & a bit more; but in a subtle manner. The leather is subdued. All the notes are tbh. Moderate projection. 6-8 hr longevity. Clings to skin after an hr or so. Think of this as a comfort perfume. puts you in a happy mode. It's not a room filler & it will not announce your arrival. But every once in a while you will get a nod from a fellow gentleman. More suited for confident older men. For special occasions, date nights & black tie events. Works best in autumn & winters. More suited for the night though. Got this for 45 usd.

This is one of best smelling classics. Just do yourself a favor and find a bottle with 3-letter batch code. The new reformulation to my nose is not even remotely close to the ones before 2013. It's a complex fragrance in a smooth buttery harmonical classy way. It's very beautifully blended. In woodsy notes, it's very sandalwood forward and it smells really good. I wish they had a EDP version of it with better longevity and silage. Not sure how some even comparing this to YSL Jazz. I have that too which I love but there's nothing similar to my nose. There is some reminiscence to Pasha de Cartier though.

Safari is a better Jazz. And quite a bit more pleasing than Tsar, too. It shares a great deal with those two iconic masculine colognes, but smells smoother, sweeter, and is easier to wear. There's a soapy quality to Safari that I enjoy more. It's not as piney and green as Tsar; not as spicy as Jazz - there's a well-blended middle ground quality about it. It doesn't get as classic a man's fragrance as this. Loads of notes working in harmony to produce one of the most masculine scents in the world of perfumery. Timeless and elegant, it's the accessory that'll get you through all seasons, every occasion.

My cousin stole my 1st bottle way back in 92 when this 1st came out. Now I got a new bottle and this is the same fragrance from my prom night back in 92 I was killing it that night. Safari was brand new and I knew I had the fragrance of the night on. This is classic at it's finest, this doesn't remind me of anything else on the market. I'm so glad that I repurchase this fragrance. Last all day very strong with a lot of notes that keep making guest appearances from the opening through the mid til the end. Excellent fragrance excellent performance, simple beautiful and a great designer.

I purchased mine around 2016, so about seven years ago as I type this, and it's becoming increasingly like a kind of mostly warm-spicy variation on the theme of Tsar with age, as the gradual retreat of the top notes increasingly allows the lower ones, particularly whatever it is that to my nose is indistinguishable from vanillic beany tonka, to take centre stage--although both Safari and Tsar are, of course, top-flight designer old-skool classics anyway. I think that my Safari has also probably lost some of its former abundance of potency, but it still half wants to kill yo mama.

I hate the word "dated" to describe decades old fragrances. It implies that a fragrance is tired or irrelevant. There is no doubt that Safari reminds of OG Drakkar Noir, OG Egoist, etc, but that's only because it is a note bomb with heavy lavender, patchouli, oak moss and a dozen other notes all crafted to announce your presence in the room, rather than cower in the corner. Not that these fragrances are bad or should be buried in the back yard along with your vintage porn collection. Far from it! Rock the Ages! Safari is too good to be ignored.

I paid $40 for a brand new bottle with complete presentation in a sealed authentic box, and for that I say this is money well spent! I never smelled the original formulation but this juice is great! Fougere at it's finest, elegant bottle, super versatile, everything about it is great except for the longevity. Citrus Coriander Lavender Carnation Cinnamon Sandalwood Leather That's mainly what I get, along with the other notes that are all blended beautifully! I found a cosmair bottle of this. Wow. I love it. I am not certain what the new reformulated version smells like. If it’s close, I’d probably still like it. The cosmair dry down is wonderful...very 80s. You can tell it’s a Ralph Lauren fragrance . Has the polo green vibe- I can’t differentiate notes...I just know I like it, as I like Polo Green- the spiciness is similar. This smells similar (way better) to Lomani El Paso..I’m shocked that there are 4 thumbs down...but maybe this is for the new version. Love love love love this.

Genuinely a gorgeous masculine fragrance, though smelling it straight out the bottle may be a rough experience because of the very strong aldehyde notes. It evolves well and it's a very unique scent. Any time I wear this for the girlfriend, I get a 'you smell great'. The bottle and colour is the main thing which got me to buy this, and they really do pop. I'm mid 20s and it works very well on me. Either a very rich evening fragrance, or a very unique scent for daily wear. Just mind you don't spray too much in the office.

My hubby told me he liked the scent which would remind him of his dad, and I wanted to give the fragrance for his birthday gift. I googled and googled, and finally I found this one which is the PERFECT scent as he desired. It's a bit warm, spicy, very classic and sexy too. These days, most guys perfume smell the same with all the soapy, greeny, musky or clean smell. I'm not complaining but I wanted my man to smell more unique and classic. If you're looking for a mature classic smell, you've found one.

I'm completely torn on this, as it's by far the best smelling fragrance I own, SUPER MANLY, it reminds me of mornings in the bush, when we went hunting, the canvas tents, gunpowder with a soapy base. It's incredible smelling, however is super subtle, you really need to get close to smell it, and it fades quickly as well. I do think there's a use for this even given the sub par performance, business meetings or dates where you are outside or active would work well, it performs well in the heat though.

I have a 15+ year old bottle that has been sitting in my possession that I had pretty much forgot about. There was some evaporation but wow... this thing is awesome. I obviously can't say what the current formulation is like, but this older version is simply fantastic. The dry down has this woody and leathery smell that I just love. This is, by far, my favorite scent. I've been using it almost every other day for the last two weeks since re-"discovering" the bottle.

I feel extremely lucky to find another backup bottle of this in good conditions and great smelling 3 char batch (vintage) at a very reasonable price. Thanks to people who don't want these anymore but not selling them for an arm an a leg. To those who might have never smelled one of the vintage formulations: while you can get yourself a bottle! The quality and smoothness of the scent is not even comparable to new reformulations. It's sooooooo good.

This is a good fragrance to me!! Fresh clean soapy, mossy, amber that last all day on my skin and clothing with great sillage and projection. Safari is definitely a grown man scent that I appreciate and enjoy wearing because it has that old school 90$ feel that I love. Paid only 29.00 for a 4.2oz at Burlington coat factory which is a great bargain for the amount of juice but if you enjoy barber 💈 shop fragrances then I would recommend Safari.

In my youth I had a boss who banned me from wearing it, she used to say she could smell it a mile away. Being stubborn of course, I wore it all the time. In the late 90's it was a monster, now it's more cuddly. It's still a lovely fragrance, just a shadow of its former self. If you can track down a vintage bottle, do it, it's well worth a spend. I like the nostalgia of it. I'd now class it as fresh spicy, inoffensive, but somehow soothing.

A Classic! Was my signature scent for most of the 90s and still one of my favorites. Every time I wear it I am reminded why. It is fresh yet with a spicy/warm dry down. It smells sophisticated when wearing a suit, and adventurous when wearing a t-shirt and shorts. I tend to agree that it is not the beast it used to be, but it still has good longevity and decent projection. Class in a bottle.

This is another Ralph lauren masterpiece that is totally underrated. This magnificent gem has great longevity 6hrs+. The oakmoss and leather really stand out. I still get compliments with this one . I have the original vintage version (Cosmair)1991 and have recently bought a backup bottle. The good thing about this fragrance is u can pu a vintage version still for under 50bucks. I

This is a classic, if you don't like 80's style masculine scents you probably won't like this one but if you are like me and love the classics this should be on a must own list, it is warm a bit sweet and has a great leather undertone, I don't feel that it is "dated" but I would say it leans more mature it has decent projection and longevity and you can pick it up fairly cheap
