Wow, a tale of two sides.... Jekyll and Hyde. I was at the Neimans fragrance counter and decided to sniff this out. I instantly fell head over heels for the opening of this one. The way the lemon combines with the bay leaf is so unique. I carried the tester strip along with two other colognes I was sampling and asked three women which of the fragrances of the day they preferred. All of them chose the Dry Wood! I am thinking that I have found a winner. Cha-Ching purchase was made. I was so happy with my newest addition to the collection. Then I got home.... Dry down on this monster is a totally different animal. The pepper and herbs start stabbing you with their pungency, and the lemon that smoothed it all out is now gone. This is BEAST MODE! I took the fragrance back, as I couldn't justify the $200 for a fragrance that only captivates for a short span and then repels. Needless to say, a week later I put on my polo shirt that I was wearing and not even my cleaning lady's over-use of tide could power this stuff out of my clothes. It is that strong. So, I added some Jo Malone Grapefruit and and it smelled good enough together for me to go to work. This fragrance is a beast and if you can tame it, the women do seem to like it! Update! Second time through the wash and the polo shirt still smells of dry wood. I have NEVER seen anything like that. What a beast. I capped it with Terre D'Hermes today and it worked splendidly. What a beast. Almost makes me want to go re-purchase this monster! My Score: 6.5

After its rather bright Citron flash, Ramon Monegal's 'Dry Wood' settles into a lovely warm scent of Cedar and Bay, with whispers of Pepper and Amber on my skin. It brings sunshine to a warm, wet winter's day on the West Coast of Canada and reminds me of walking through Western Red Cedar woods on a sunny afternoon where the rotting Cedar duff feels like a deep scented carpet under foot. There is a mossiness and a dry sweetness that reminds me of the scent of the Sword Ferns that grow in the shade of the Cedars. I even get a sense of salt on skin, the result of a long walk in the woods. I think that I will tend to wear this perfume in the daytime as it might be too 'rustic' for a 'night out on the town'. I think that this perfume will respond differently on various skins and that you should certainly try it before you buy it. Many perfumes turn sickly sweet on me and send me running for soap and water - or even alcohol - to make them go away. Most of Ramon Monegal's scents that I have tried settle beautifully on me but I tend to love the unisex perfumes of the world far better than perfumes designed specifically for women or for men.

DRY WOOD from Ramon Monegal’s Classics Collection is certainly a gentleman’s fragrance. It reminds me of a modernised and a less nuclear bomb version of Kouros. A successful man would wear this, with a crisp cotton shirt, a quality timepiece and a mind focused on innovative business ideas. It’s slightly medicinal, but I find that clean and clinical smell comforting. I try not to reinforce gender stereotypes, but if one were to stereotypically label what could be considered a “real man’s” scent (whatever justifies a “real man” in the rainbow of gender variation) then it would be this. Monegal’s concept for ‘Dry Wood’ was to use wood to convey confidence and balance. He explains, “I believe that wood naturally conveys strength, protection, flexibility and prestige. I combined accords of dry woods with fine spices to recreate the scent of the new millennium.” The longevity is impressive. “Strength, balance and control. Determined and expansive attitude.” It’s what your non-paternal “daddy” (lover) should smell like. It's in the name! wood, beautiful, resinous wood, that opens in an almost oily way on the skin, then develops some green leaf notes and it has that characteristic Monegal elegance. It smells like my granny's house used to smell, back in Spain, with all the turn of the century Mahogany furniture. It's a quality of RM fragrances, they really take you somewhere. This is a masculine scent to me, and I think it would layer well with other fragrances, it could be use to anchor a floral smell, I imagine it would combine well with RM's "kiss my name".

The fragrance of citrus trees with a spicy twist in the opening... which softens into an interesting and attractive masculine fragrance in the drydown.

I was so drawn to the beauty of these fragrances by its bottle and decor presentation at Neiman Marcus. I had to have one just by the look of the bottle alone, Im guessing its a take on an old inkwell for ink? Nonetheless, I figured it will be expensive for being exclusive to & luxurious looking at NM. The lady screeches out from a distance, "$200!" as she sees me looking for the price on package. I suck it up & test every single one of them on the paper strips and the ones that intrigues me most on my skin because I know I will come back for one. They are very different from other fragrances, I was not impressed with any on the paper strips except for 3 of them that were not that bad. Umbre & Dry wood and another. But those two I also tested on my inner elbow. The Umbre smelled nice on paper & on my arm it dried down to an exact replica of baby powder. I wouldn't spend 200 to smell that way. The dry wood, as I love woodsy scents, dried down to a bug spray, home cleaner, ammonia, chalky ink stained, fungus growing mossy burnt wood. I know it couldn't be my skin cause fragrances tend to smell great on me and the lady said that that's how it smells, so if this is it and in Miami its usually hot, then I'm skipping this. I was approached by like 12 women and noticed that the older ladies say that's they're favorite one. But the younger sexy ladies that work there (since every sales person goes up to you at NM, they all disliked Dry wood and went for Cuirelle, Agar Musk, Mon Cuir & Lovely Day. So I'm gonna go with what the younger sexy ladies with tall smooth tanned legs in heels say on this collection. I haven't given up on Ramon Monegal yet. I'm gonna test the others on my skin before i conclude that I didn't like any in this collection.

Just opened a small sample bag from Lucky Scent and this monster was escaping from it's cage. It had been clawing away the entire trip across country, just waiting to attack! ... and so it has. I'll be seeking medical treatment from a bar of strong soap very soon. I'm afraid I'm going to have to blast this even harder than most. This is 100% ammonia on me and off me. I was hoping that if I put it on my skin it might calm the hell down. Nope. Keep waiting for something woodsy to appear but this is nothing but a giant wasp sting to the nose & eyes. Smells like synthetic oud and I do not understand how anyone can tolerate that note. I smell none of the notes listed ... maybe they gave me the wrong sample ...? Atrocious. and I like many perfumes. Unfortunate that this is the first I've tried of this Line: I did also order a sample of the Cotton Musk. Here is to hoping I am not utterly scarred by it as well. :b EDIT: Husband got home, entered room and said ... "whoa, strong, is it new? ... smells good, though." Color me confused. I'm so used to having my nose attached to my wrist. Perhaps this one smells good when not. doing. that. LOL! EDIT #2 ... no, on second entrance to room, he agrees, it's awful.

My first scrubber for a long, long time. I did hold out for 8 hours but it was so unpleasant I couldn't wait to wash it off. I mean, what were they thinking when they signed this one off? First of all Dry Woods is a bit of a misnomer. This should be called Dry Synthetic Herbal Blast. I'm happy to have synthetics when I'm paying reasonable prices, but I would not be pleased to pay top dollar and get a bottle of detergent like this. Do sample this one before you make a decision to buy or not. If you like powerhouse frags with a retro feel this might do it for you, but alas, it was too much for me.

A distinctly dry and bitter scent profile, with emphasize on green, earthy and vegetal notes. I get mostly galbanum, petitgrain, clary sage, cypress, and cedar. The base is composed of moss, along with an animalic musk that seems to be a signature of Ramon Monegal's creations. The galbanum is quite pronounced, reaching a level that I find totally overpowering, if not cloying. Smells a bit dated too. Overall, it deserves a more aptly named like "dry greens." I found no resemblance to BdP whatsoever.

A woody, spicy and citrus fragrance which definitely leans masculine. Citron's bitter note opens, with bay leaf and satureja (savory) adding herbal qualities. Pepper lends spiciness and an almost pimento-like note, while oak moss gives a slight mustiness. The woods here are strange and indecipherable. Unfortunately, this was a very unpleasant frag to me. I would highly recommend Creed's "Spice and Wood" over this without hesitation. (58)

It is dry and woody, as the name suggests. It's also very sharp and after the initial sniff, I am only thinking how synthetic (in a bad way) this feels. I was intrigued by its name and I thought this will be to my liking, but it smells like many of the newer screeching woody generic designers that I dislike. Cedar and pepper with lemon, all synthetic and cheaply blended. 4/10

This has to be the most nuclear bug repellent I have ever smelled. Apply this to any part of your body, and you won't have to worry about mosquitos buzzing in your ear, much less the public as a whole. I spent over an hour praying for a reprieve from the initial blast before decided to try and wash it off ("tried" being the operative word). After two rounds of soap and water, I could still smell this stuff emanating from my arm, and that's not an exaggeration. While I can't see myself ever wearing this, I would recommend it to anyone summering down on the Amazon or participating in the Spanish Inquisition. Yet another example of a niche fragrance that is completely unwearable. I can't speak for the people below who enjoy this, but take my word for it, the emperor hasn't a stitch on.

Dry indeed. Like getting hit over the head repeatedly with a plank of driftwood. Many from this house are quite passable, interesting even and in one instance bottle worthy. Mon Cuir to be specific. Sadly Dry Wood is a caldron of synthetic drab offensive the likes of which I have not had the pleasure of scrubbing off my arm in quite some time. Now 50 US dollars for a 50ml bottle I can see this mildly offensive potion occupying a tiny place in a few hearts. At close to 200 US dollars though I cry foul. I admit I would buy a bottle at 50 US dollars on those rare days when I just want to wallow in synthetic soulless drivel. Those days when putting my shoes on backwards is a distinct possibility. Those days when a co-worker, who routinely calls me "dude" and offers to share his frozen pizza with me, decides to relocate his desk right next to mine. Here, and only here, would I liberally apply Dry Wood in the hopes of inducing such waves of nausea in him that he would be forced to move his desk or take up my stench with HR. The perfume market is littered with these sorts of one-dimensional dryer sheet abominations. All that is needed to clear any board room would be a spritz of 1 million on one arm and a spritz of Dry Wood on the other. A bombastically bad scent.

this is a funny story actually... my sister and I were in Barcelona and we stopped into the Ramon Monegal boutique over there. I told her about this parfumeur, because I really, really wanted Cuirelle (and am I happy to have it now) however, I was really sick, with a cold, and I couldn't smell anything! I was getting cuirelle though for sure, and she was trying out different ones. She kept asking me my opinions on things, but i really couldn't smell anything so i was like "yeah it's ok" for every one haha so she ends up deciding on dry wood, and i never actually smelled it on her, until... we're at home this weekend and i'm in the hallway by her room and i say, "What smells of really heavy mens cologne?" and she's like "It's my Ramon Monegal! What do you mean?! You helped me pick it!" I burst out laughing. this is NOT a woman's scent!!!!!

With Norlimbanol proudly listed among the notes (the infamous aromachemical by those guys at Firmenich that is present in way too many masculine fragrances of the past 10 years including, Kokorico, Potion, Assolo, Opus V, Zadig & Voltaire Tomes series ecc. ecc.), all you can expect from the fragrance is sharp woods and the typical dry woody-ambery-incensey aroma of this ingredient. With this in mind, Dry Wood delivers exactly what he promises. A modern dry-woody citrus with peppery undertones and with an EXASPERATING lasting power. Norlimbanol smells great but it sadly tends to become extremely overpowering to the point to kill almost everything else in the composition. I'm personally not a fan of these type of fragrances, but if you like stuff a-la Mister Marvelous, go ahead... Rating: 6/10

It smells like a clone of Equator, a fragrance by Bourjois Paris that I used to own in the early 90s. Powerfull stuff and quite macho, a bit on the harsh side of woody ambers, feels very out of context by modern standards. I felt very nostalgic the moment I sprayed it on me. Performance is great, still on my arm 24 hours later and the drydown is rich in detail. You could get Equator for 1/10th of the price and still get amazing performance out of it but it has long been reformulated.

Dry Wood opens with a green / Citron ; Then dry down to a soft woodsy scent, I got all positive feedbacks , This is not your everyday department store conversation starter! Dry wood is mild and more close to the skin kind of scent , 4 Hours on skin and 8 to 10 hours on clothing. Scent 10/10 Long lasting 10/10 Silage moderate Thanks,

Very masculine, powerhouse fragrance. Real musk inthere is very likely. Woods, oakmoss and camphor. I guess there is also ambergris. P.S.: after a second year more than one year later, it reminds me of Lacoste Original from 1984 for it's green facets.

First impression: Sisley Eau de Campagne. But the latter is a little player compared to Dry Wood which is stronger, more bitter and more green. It is so bitter that it is not pleasant. There mist be a ton of galbanum, immortelle and nettle here.
