Impossible Iris

Finally a niche perfume worthy of it's overpriced-ness. (well maybe not, this is ridiculously expensive) But it IS worth it in that it is beautiful and it lasts, but most of all because it is truly special. It opens of cool icy wet paper, iris interpretation I suppose. Then magically the flowers warm up and everything blends together into the definition of pretty. I see soft pink and soft lace filtered through soft light. Lady like without being overly precious or matronly. It does remind me, at least on my skin of Estee by Estee Lauder. But only how Estee smells at the end of a very long day. But only "reminds me" it is not a version of Estee. It must be that they share some of the similar notes like iris, raspberry and cedar. Estee has a harshness compared to the perfectly pretty balance that is this silk ribbon of a perfume. I really shouldn't even compare them because as I said Impossible Iris is so special. It is the pretty frag I have been searching for. Not precious, not matronly and the silage is perfect, not too faint to not bother with and not so over powering you will get sick of it and it lasts all day. To break it down, for me this is Iris and mimosa, with ylang and jasmine delicate and quiet behind. Though I don't smell straight up cedar wood it is what keeps all these notes singing together as one. I haven't been so impressed with a blend in a long time. I will splurge as the happiness this brings me is worth it. I am all for unisex but I cannot see a man wearing this perhaps because it is my interpretation of pretty, but then again I do wear men's frags. If a man were to wear this he would be wearing an impeccable suit complete with cuff links and slicked back hair ala Cary Grant, an untouchable, perfectly groomed man. OK, I have changed my own mind, men could wear this. Just had to change my perspective from pretty to groomed. Perhaps because it smells classy clean. Yes that's what it is, classy clean. I've come back to edit this since considering this for men too, I have gotten over my love affair with this being so pretty and just for women. I smell it differently now, I realize it is truly unisex really a very clean smell, but clean in a warm alluring way., as in well groomed, not laundry clean smell. Another reason to love it so much, keeps me thinking about it and all its possible invocations. Worth a try, so impressive. Complete package, perfect blend, perfect silage and longevity and beautiful presentation.

Alternate name? Impossibly Lovely! Lightly Iris is also fitting :) Noteworthy Notes a soft iris, mimosa, ylang-ylang as listed very light aldehydes snuck in, though unlisted raspberry, not with any sweetness, a little tang initially jasmine didn't present to me in any significant way It feeeels like post shower perfection. You know that feeling. Limited projection, but it lingers forever on my skin. Impossible Iris is beautiful, floral, clean, soapy and deceptively uncomplicated but that's not the only appeal for me. I've circled back to this fragrance for years and I'm finally ready to admit I need it in my wardrobe. It's a recent addition to my full bottle want list. I think it's because my time with Bvlgari Pour Femme is winding down. No, the two fragrances are not sister scents, but both use mimosa prominently and beautifully, one with violet, the other with iris and both are heartbreakingly feminine in feel. I know, I know...I just assigned traditionally female characteristic to a fragrance *sigh* apologies, but Impossible Iris is impossibly feminine to me. It's not girly, or sweet or sexy. It's when feminine presents as lovely, delicate, sober and surprisingly enduring. I need this fragrance for days when that's who I am and trust, that's not every day. For my unbreakable, I got this days...well, that's just a different fragrance bottle with a different appeal :)

The third monegal perfume that i try and again... One of the BEST iris perfume that i have ever tried. It is true that i orefer other kind of mixings with the iris like the one un Dior homme ir in gentleman by givenchy, but comparing yo other similar perfumes this one is very very good. The smell is very soapy, the opening is even similar to Chanel n°5, i supose because if the ylang ylang. Although It doenst appear un the notes List, i think It should have aldehides or something similar because of the soapy and airy feeling It gives. Impossible iris is very close to iris poudree by Frederic Malle, but a bit softer and less aldehidic. The iris here is very powdery and delicate. I dont get the Raspberry but It has something sweet un the back which is very subtle. The performance is not bad for this kind of smell. It has a good longevity (6-8hoirs) and the sillage is very moderate. It keeps close to the skin but is noticeable in intermitent trails during most of his Life. I've been trying to find something in the iris range to replace my Prada infusion d'iris; which is really beautiful, but too many people wear it and I wanted to find something distinctive. I think I knew before the dry-down that I'd buy this one. This is a very clean iris and is decidedly feminine, I think due to the addition of rasberry and gardenia. but here's the thing: This is so well blended that these sometimes heavy fruit and flowers don't give me a headache. This is hauntingly gorgeous,and a bit innocent. It evokes a memory for me that I hadn't thought about for a long time. Whenever it rained (I lived in the tropics in the 70's) I used to write my boyfriend (now my husband) steamy love letters on lavender stationary with perfumed ink.....Anyway it's a nice association as the letters are gone but the love has endured for 40 years! Impossible Iris is "impossible to forget".

This is an impossibly beautiful scent- at least it seems impossible until you wear it for a few hours and smell the glorious development on your skin. I confess that when I first tried this scent, I did not give it enough time to develop and was initially put off by the very green orris root that dominates for the first half hour on my skin. Then the scent starts to move and develop and other notes come in. I am now 3 hours into this beauty and it continues to bloom on my skin and more and more elements shine through. I am now really getting the creaminess and softness of the ylang-ylang mixed with the faint woodiness of the cedar accenting the iris. This is truly a thing of beauty. An incandescent scent that floats by you as you move like the delicate beat of dragonfly wings. I own a bottle of this glorious juice and it is worth every penny. A true piece of perfumer's art.

Ramon Monegal’s Impossible Iris is how I would want to smell everyday! Cool crisp iris, soapy mimosa, and sweet raspberry. It’s so delightfully fresh that I wish they made shower gels or soaps of this fragrance because it’s the perfect luxuriously feminine “just out of the shower” fresh scent. I bought a bottle because I savored my tiny sample for a year and a half and was devastated when it was finally gone. They only sell 50ml bottles and for the price they should at least be 100ml. I do not like mimosa so I was skeptical before trying this fragrance, but I think the way the mimosa mixes with the iris gives it a shampoo –like smell that I really enjoy. I hope to try more Monegal fragrances and would highly recommend this to female iris lovers!

Impossible Iris: Notes include Italian iris, mimosa, raspberry, ylang-ylang, Egyptian jasmine and Virgin cedarwood. A lovely name like this raises expectations and curiosity. So what makes this iris impossible? Impossible Iris opens strong and rooty, the dusky, dusty, earthy, carroty iris root complemented by the slightly harsh, raspy aura of mimosa. Over time it quiets down, becomes smoother, softer, more elegant and refined, raspberry gives a surprisingly lovely pink hue to to the perfume, ylang-ylang softens it further and adds a creaminess the opening was lacking. A half hour into wearing Impossible Iris, I am entirely happy with it. Buttery smooth, soft, elegant and lady-like, this iris is anything but impossible. It is incredible.

GORGEOUS...GORGEOUS...GORGEOUS!!! Well by now I can proclaim myself to be a huge R. Monegal fan!!! Seriously, if they start a fan club I could be a groupie!!! Impossible Iris is impossible NOT to love!!! A thing of beauty. Beautiful and masterfully blended. Niche enough to be a bit unique while still managing to be completely wearable!!! I am a total gonzo Iris lover so this is an easy love!!! I'm not going to pick the florals apart. Suffice it to say that they are lovely with the ripeness of a luscious raspberry to lend a bit of sweetness. This is beautiful, elegant and soft. Perfect for daily wear. Thank you Mr. M!!!! Keep this up and I am going to have to move to Spain and beg for a job!!!

Very pretty! Another clean solar floral from Mr Monegal. Opens strongly with bright sweet Jasmine, Fresh Iris and Raspberry, then softly comes the Solar Ylang & soft Mimosa. Blended beautifully together it softens and sweetens warming to your own skin. It is a clean scent too, reminiscent of being freshly bathed/showered, and scented with gorgeous pampering products, I get how people can liken it to shampoo. But it is better than that, an effortless elegant feminine perfume, that you could wear everyday, in fact I will buy a FB and wear it everyday! The more i smell it the more I love it. I find this perfume to be incredibly strong and long lasting, so only a light hand is needed.

I bought this for warmer weather but I’ve been wearing it in the cold. The florals keep me feeling imaginary sun on my face. This is one of my favorite scents. It’s soft, feminine and unique. I smell iris, jasmine and ylang ylang from the opening to the dry down. This lasts a few hours in the warm weather and much longer in the cold. This captures climbing jasmine so well. This is not a woody floral - if cedar is used it’s only to round out the sweetness but it’s undetectable. This is strictly floral (not a French floral) without being overly sweet. For myself, it smells rather natural and airy. A love for life.

Instant love; instant memory jog. Forget about the individual notes, this is so well-composed it smells like a place in time. I cannot dissect or describe it in the usual "starts with bergamot, fades into blah blah". It just "is". Impossible Iris is a liquified memory of a childhood family vacation to Disney World. Freshly folded towels, clean hotel room, fresh cold fruit at the salad bar...a rollercoaster of beauty, excitement, and joy. *Lasting power is excellent. I can still smell it after showering which usually never happens with my perfume-eating body chemistry.

This "impossible iris" is the most apt name for an Iris perfume I've ever seen. It is addictive, the notes are so perfectly blended all I smell is Iris, but sometimes it's the "shiny iris", sometimes the "dirt soil iris", sometimes the solar, dry iris, sometimes the wet, sometimes the beautiful and alluring, sometimes cold and uninviting. I cannot say I like it, but I can say I am profoundly addicted to smelling it on myself. I think it's a masterpiece, and I have no idea how he's done it.

Impossible Iris is Chanel Beige plus raspberry...tropical flowers plus fruit! The Iris is used in a way to balance the fragrance, keeps it from going in a warm and cloying direction. The raspberry is fresh, and ultimately (to my nose) becomes candied on the dry-down. A sophisticated and truly lovely fragrance!! Just as an update: for me, this fragrance is more for late winter early spring. The raspberry note went synthetic on me in the heat.

I love this. For me it's an iris leather. It starts out with lots of green rooty iris and loads of leather, just as if I'd spilled iris on a new leather jacket. Odd - it's not meant to be a leather at all. The iris turns powdery then eventually the fragrance sweetens to a lovely floral drydown of jasmine and ylang-ylang, very creamy. Nothing impossible about this fragrance, though - I find it really wearable.

I'm almost convinced that I smell elements of N°5 here! It's incredible, I adore it. It's lightly powdery with a sour raspberry. It's super beautiful. I don't have much to say other than 'I love it'. Crisp. Delicious.

The greatest iris fragrance ever.

This is VERY similar to Miller Harris - Coeur de Fleur, which I had a bottle of some years ago. The main difference in these two creations for me is that IMPOSSIBLE IRIS is a bit more well blended and has a more sparkling quality to whole composition. Even though I found this to be rather enjoyable as far as these kind of fragrances go (do not enjoy fruity iris), I was EXTREMELY dissapointed by the lack of longevity. After 3 hours it was gone forever. As others praise this for a good staying power, I will blame my skin chemistry, not the creation. Try first though, no one want's to end up with a 260 EUR per 100 ml perfume bottle that stays on your skin only for 3 hours.

Impossible Iris by Ramon Monegal features an iris note that is similar to the one found in Terre d'Iris by Miller Harris. I enjoy both fragrances quite a bit; in fact, this is my favorite RM fragrance so far—it’s a wet, green, iris with a large dose of sweet mimosa that smells of the highest quality shampoo. I decided to run a comparison and applied II to one arm and TdI to the other. Then I asked the dear Hubs to sniff each arm and tell me which he preferred. (The dear Hubs is a “(-)fragrance fan”.) He chose II, so I immediately put TdI on my full bottle list. 3.5/5

One word: beautiful More words: A modern interpretation of a classic perfume: iris is here in the form of a soft powder, but this is more about the raspberry and mimosa pairing which creates a bright, fizzy floral. On my skin this perfume smells vintage, complete with soft aldehydes, making Impossible Iris easy to wear. Very good performance with light projection in the first hour. I love the name, it reminds me of my favorite Wilco song, Impossible Germany.

Impossible Iris is more focused on the yellow floral elements than the namesake iris. This is a gorgeous fragrance built primarily on the interplay between mimosa, ylang ylang and raspberry. The iris is there to smooth, soften and enhance the powdery elements of the scent however its never really the star of the show. The whole vibe of the scent straddles the line between modern and retro. Lovely.

When I first sprayed this on it reminded me of Abel's Pink Iris. It has that same sweet raspberry/iris combo, but not as candylike. It's fruitier sweet than sugary sweet. This very soon sheds that sweetness and becomes very dry and slightly powdery, papery almost, with the iris at the fore. It stays like this for some time, but then the mimosa and ylang appear strongly, the mimosa being the loudest, and this goes from an iris perfume to primarily a yellow floral with the iris relegated to the background. I barely pick up the jasmine, and thankfully not the cedar either, though they are there if you pay attention. It's not what I expected and again, as others have noted, this seems to have been misnamed. It should have been called Mimosa something or other. Overall, though, I'm still not sure how I feel about this. There is a note in here, that while not synthetic, does not smell natural. Almost plasticky but not quite. I don't know what note or combination of notes could account for that. It’s more distracting than disturbing. Despite that, there is something very intriguing about this scent that is drawing me in and makes me want to smell it more. I think that is more curiosity though, just trying to figure it out. At this point, it’s not a like, but it’s not a dislike either though I’m almost sure this will never be a love, so a fb is not in my future. Besides, I can already tell that this will never come close to my affection for Splendida Iris d'Or by Bvlgari which is an iris mimosa scent that I already own and adore.

Happy, bright and out of shower freshness in this one. Yes, it is feminine so very pretty too but I don't mind wear it confidently. My wife didn't find it special though, both on me and on her. I sprayed it at 6 pm (three spritz) and it projected an hour and then became skin scent until midnight. So 5–6-hour longevity. Quiet linear with raspberry note very obvious. At fifth hour ylang ylang dominates and it becomes less sharp and almost creamy, which I liked but too late to enter that phase. I agree this smell like shampoo. Very good choice for Spring and even Summer but why am I supposed to spend $185 to smell 'shampoo' cleanliness. It'd be Ok to buy full bottle if the price tag is less than $100.

First of all this is not an Iris perfume, but Mimosa. First hours are full on mimosa with aldehydes which makes it sharp. This is why I would have expected the Ylang Ylang to make a stronger entrance well before the 4th or even 5th hour. Unfortunately, the first few hours are just so-so in terms of beauty. And by the time the Ylang Ylang does show up and give it a creamier feel, the fragrance is already nearing the end of its life; so it only really pleases me in that final hour.

Very Iris forward, naturally, dry, powdery..then I smell the mimosa. I don't smell the cedar, unfortunately. It sits SO very close to the skin, no projection. The longevity isn't there either. Disappointing, as I do love Iris. The point of wearing a perfume is to be able to smell it. I got a sample with purchase from F-vault, where I bought a very rare FB of Balanciaga Paris. They hand picked a few samples based on my purchase. I won't be buying this one.

This is a very soapy Iris; cold and clean, and I think the Mimosa/Iris combo brings up a similar smell I got from Vilhelm's Room Service. It's pleasant enough, but I can't get past a smell reminiscent of the classic Dial soap they had in my pediatrician's office as a kid. I am on an Iris kick, and based on the reviews below was ready to be wowed. I didn't dislike it, but certainly did not have any life-changing experience.

Sadly, I have to agree with everything @ngarcia said below - it is a pass for me. I'm on a mission to find my perfect iris, so you know, I had to get my hands on this one. The name seemed promising, and I love the bottle design I have to admit. After 2 hours I got a chalky mimosa and iris. Something in the base is very offputting for my nose, not sure what it might be but it remotely resembles some sort of cleaning spray or pool chlorine even. Ylang -Ylang perhaps? This is the second scent I've tested from this house, and the same story happens. No projection, you have to overspray to make this perfume work. However, if you do overspray, you then get a strong alcohol smell + very bitter almond. It takes a lot of time to settle down, I have no patience for that.

Well, if you like mimosa, I'd recommend this. The ylang-ylang doesn't come out much to me, nor does the iris or the jasmine. It's just a VERY bubblegummy sweet mimosa. It's also kinda sharp and giving frangipani vibes. It reminds me a little bit of Chanel's Beige, which I hate a little more than this. Can't really get any musk either. Maybe the perfume should be renamed... Projection: Strong Longevity: Average

This is a big pass, subtle all the time, longevity around 5 hours with minimum projection, not niche quality. Alcoholic opening and cleaner smell after 2 hours.

It smells very similar with LG Household & Health care's On the body cherry blossom body wash(South Korea Company). If you have a chance to get it then try it.

Definitely for females, hard to pass as unisex. It's heavy on yellow florals and to my nose smells like loreal hair dye.

In the opening, despite its ingredients not being listed, it smells like violet jam to me. Afterwards there is a fresh iris (which also makes me think, like other users, of unlisted aldehydes) accompanied by a mimosa note that is actually the most predominant in the composition for me. That somewhat garish raspberry note that I already knew from Flamenco also appears, worked, however, in a much more subtle and much less sweet way. The composition is slightly powdery and clean but it is not a perfume that I have fallen in love with. Both mimosa and purple flowers (iris, violet, heliotrope...) are floral notes that, depending on how they are combined, I may come to love or they may not be entirely pleasant to me. This time we are facing that last case. I find it to be a unisex perfume that is more inclined towards the feminine, with a moderate to soft projection and a duration of about 10 hours on my skin. Scent 5.5/10 Duration 10/10 Sillage 6.5/10 Quality/price 5/10 Versatility 7/10 Packaging 6.5/10 Would I buy again? I did not buy it

Ramon Monegal Impossible Iris It opens with typical and familiar scent of iris which is green and cold. Ylang-Ylang accompanies iris in the opening. Then mimosa enters and gives a creamy scent to perfume (mimosa in many perfumes reminds me of the scent of old blue-boxed Nivea cream) and a bit later a prominent note of raspberry appears. It shows off for an hour strongly and then becomes less intensive by the presence of cedar and powdery-salty aspect of iris in the base. The prominent raspberry note here reminds me of Ted Lapidus Fantasme, though Fantasme is much more complex and richer than Impossible Iris. If you're a fan of iris-based perfumes probably you'll enjoy Impossible Iris. Think of it as Prada Infusion d'Homme with an added prominent raspberry note which places in fruity-floral category. It is (almost) nice and simple with moderate longevity and soft sillage. Nothing ground-breaking here and surely it doesn't worth high price tags in my humble opinion.

Hmm .. what an unusual and unusually interesting iris in my collection .. Of all my irises, Impossible Iris is the youngest fragrance with a fine organization. It appears a bouquet of irises wrapped in craft paper, when unpacked on the stems of frost and flowers are almost frozen, the buds are closed .. that's how it is. The flowers themselves are icy from the frost .. Probably such a presentation is a blizzard outside the window, although it is not very cold .. It seems to me that any woman who has dressed this fragrance on herself will be transferred to youth (if she is not so young as I, for example :) and feels like a 17-18 year old girl, in her heart she is lightness and mischief, and life seems like a wonderful game! Very beautiful at a temperature of -2, the air is quite humid and snowfall all day. Exactly in such weather I wanted to try on this iris, and it is simply magical.

Not your average Iris. Mimosa usually doesn’t play well with my skin, but this is nice. It actually feels more green than yellow. Even though this was launched 13 years ago, I think the style is very modern and wearable. Reminds me of Iris Malikhân from Maison Crivelli. I feel the house has two sides: one being the flamboyant side that uses powerful aroma chemicals and includes Flamenco / Faiso etc, and the other side that interprets naturals in a unique way (including Hazy Rose). I prefer the later and fortunately Impossible Iris falls into this category. This is not the expression of Iris that you will find in designers, but more a natural, green and earthy version. Would be quite impossible to not feel nice, sophisticated and clean wearing this on a summer or spring day.

I usually avoid ylang-ylang, and raspberry, and am not very familiar w/ iris as a smell... So why did I sample this? Mimose, of course. I LOVE that. So I thought; if ever I may make peace w/ raspberry or ylang, maybe such a high quality perfumer can do it. Bingo. The only thought that came to mind immediately was "...beautiful...!" Great sillage. I applied it on my leg (like a weirdo perfume obsessed person, I am aware) because I already had one on my wrists and couldn't wait to test it, and I get whiffs of it from there every now and then and swoon. Sharp florals in the opening, the jasmine comes off almost like tuberose, as the perfume dries there's a peculiar banana type of smell probably coming from the mimosa, then slowly the ylang-ylang and raspberry soft fruitiness comes through very gently, the iris is a tad bit too soft, and subtle, does not feel like a central note in this fragrance. Overall, it's a good composition but very faint and close to skin, hardly lasts 4 hours on me. Definitely a must sample if those sort of toned down, high quality florals that evoke a short-lived feeling of bliss, is what you're really looking for. 6.5/10

I am new in the world of niche perfumes . I never heard of Monegal before. After A swap a very generous member put sample of this beauty . I just tested it and as first notes are a bit harsh I imediatly thought it is not my thing . Than tested some other samples in the other hand . After 7-8 minutes a wonderful aroma was spreading and I could never imagin was this perfume . Put the noise at the place I put this perfume and was amazed Went to fragratica and what to see :-) it was a niche and very expensive perfume . Sophistication this is the right word to describe it . I love swapping <3

This reminds me of Je Reviens by Worth (extrait), pared down. As an iris it is quite unique, very floral and feminine, lovely and 'European' - as in understated, gentle elegance. The notes that jump out to me are iris and mimosa, raspberry and a very creamy ylang-ylang. I don't get cedar per se, but rather a powdery base with 'blond' woods. The aesthetic is decidedly retro. Unabashedly beautiful. It does represent a rather antiquated femininity and only as such is it a challenge. Notes: iris, mimose, raspberry, ylang-ylang, jasmine and virginian cedar.

Completely different from what I expected. Not that much iris, but a heavy dose of mimosa on my skin. Later on the iris can be found whispering on the background, while the mimosa keeps going strong. Not bad, but a bit dissapointing when you realise I bought this because of the iris. Should be called Impossible Mimosa. Magistral Mimosa, perhaps? Oh, and forgot to mention, this is quite a harsh scent, nothing subtile about it.... Edit: now I have let my Iris-expectation go, I must admit, it is quite nice! Forget the name, enjoy the juice more....

This is so far away from anything else I love, and so curiously addicting. A clean cold floral with so small a dose of raspberry that I'd say the fruit was added green before ripening. I can think of all kinds of scenes to wear this one: wonderful after a shower before bed, or running out for a casual meet up after throwing on your favorite jeans and keeping fresh faced with no makeup. It has a youthful modernity but is not only for the very young. An uncomplicated fragrance for a hip urbanite.

This smells for the first few hours like an open iris flower in a flower shop. It is really a remarkable effect, extremely pretty, and there is fruit singing under the transparent florals. The drawdown has the fruit and woods, and is very pretty but there is a slightly chemical quality. I avoid it by spraying on my back instead of in the front.

Very nice and refined, rests on you gently and like a mist, a bit floral and fruity raspberry, then a bit of musk, but noticed very little cedarwood, and a clean soap. But it is on its way, ethereal and misterious, almost like lutens de profundis, thanks to the faint rootyness.

Impossible Iris is a pretty fruity-floral. Not your typical iris dominant fragrance. Mimosa, ylang-ylang, raspberry and iris seem to have equal play in this mix. Feminine, sweet, smooth, well blended, great for spring-summer season.

Scent - musky iris root shampoo. Season/Time of Day - I prefer to use this one in the warmer months, during the day. Projection - I didn't get noticed, I didn't get a compliment. Longevity - I get 8hrs consistently.

The person below is right: this does smell uncannily like box hair dye.
