Matador

On my first wear of this fragrance, I want to preface my review with the fact I am trying this in high heat and humidity (Rome in June). The fragrance opens with sweet pear, a little bit of insence and a whole lot of coconut, joined by creamy sandalwood in the dry down. Leather and a lot of the other notes I was looking forward to are non existent on my skin. Having said that, this is the creamiest, most beautiful tropical (the passion fruit has a supporting role and is not artificial) non spf smelling summer fragrance I have sampled lately. This has just knocked Pantheon Roma’s H out of my rotation and will be brought on every holiday this summer. It’s not a beast- it’s a light, beautiful fragrance, but it is not non existent after a solid 6 hour wear in the heat- I can still detect it in a soft bubble around me. It’s a love.

I’ve never been more obsessed with a perfume before. This is absolutely unique, carnal, sensual, sexual, almost sinful. I can’t stop wearing it and sniffing my own skin. I just wish it was “louder” and lasted longer on my skin.

Pafory Advent Calendar 2025 – Day 23 First impression: wow. This is very good. Bold, expressive, instantly skin-grabbing. Also worth saying upfront - the Fragrantica note breakdown doesn’t match either the brand info or what my nose is getting. Officially, it opens with rosewood, incense, and cumin. On first contact, though, I get something unexpected: a fleeting floral softness, almost tropical, with a hint of coconut and ghostly blossoms that appear and disappear within minutes. Very quickly, the scent clarifies. On skin, it becomes cumin-forward - warm, human - threaded through smooth, polished rosewood, with incense hovering quietly rather than announcing itself. Interestingly, in the air around me, it reads powdery, softly sweet, and floral. On my wrist? Dry spice and wood. Intimate and polished. The heart is beautifully handled. Jasmine, magnolia, and rose come together effortlessly. The rose isn’t loud or dated - no “old rose” here - but smooth, almost gourmand-leaning, cushioned by powdery magnolia and luminous jasmine. Refined, modern, and effortlessly wearable. A softness you choose to reveal. The base settles into creamy sandalwood and coconut wrapped in clean musk. Skin-like, comforting, quietly sensual. And despite what some suggest, there’s no leather here for me. Just warmth, creaminess, and the trace of something once close. Confident. Tactile. Intimate. Niche December Contestant 23: This scent is very controversial. It's an exceptionally strong sweet-fruity scent with a lot of musk and leather, aswell as some florals. Its sillage is amazing, as it projects for hours and hours. Performance is basically forever. It's still going strong at the end of the day. The scent profile however is polarizing. You either love it or hate it. It is not mass appealing to my experience, and can overwhelm. I did get a comment from a relative early on, comparing the smell to a horse (I don't get why, horses don't smell like that). But to a refined nose which knows the appeal of fragrance, it will appear as an olfactory bomb of pear and spices, then passionfruit and rose, all supported by a wrap of leather and musks aswell as a magnolia flower, all against a woody background layered with coconut. With slight minus points for wearability, 7/10

The fragrance opens with a very enjoyable tropical mix with the passionfruit and coconut as protagonists. A few minutes ago, you could smell a creamy coconut leather and a little touch of rose. For me, this is the last evolution and persists until the end, maybe the leather reduces at the end, but is my humble opinion. Good sillage and a beast of duration. Don't buy it blindly.

the opening is so fruity like afruit punch infused with rose water, then the drydown is similar to oud maracuja.....what a experience

There's no way there's no oud in this. I smell oud loud and clear. Too much oud for me. Hard pass for me.

This perfume smells like people who waste oxygen. I hope not a single bottle of this piss sells. If you support animal abuse I hope the same cruelty comes back to you.

"I am completely obsessed with this fragrance. I wear it every single day, but honestly, keeping it to myself feels like a crime. So, I’ve started corporate-sharing it. I spray my kids, I spray my dogs, and—because I operate a beef ranch—I even give a generous spritz to the livestock heading into the processing facility. It’s a little inside joke between me and the cattle. They don't find it particularly funny, but hey, optimized resource management dictates we are all marching toward an inevitable expiration date. My dedication to the brand is so absolute that my firstborn is legally named 'Matador Veal.' Between the scent profile and my passion for traditional bullfighting, it just felt right. When we aren't managing supply chains, the family engages in some classic, team-building cow tipping. You just find a sleeping heifer, apply immediate kinetic force, and down they go. Apparently, they lack the spatial awareness or intellectual infrastructure to figure out how to stand back up, but it is phenomenal family-friendly entertainment. Frankly, the fragrance industry shouldn't cater to the hyper-sensitive critics complaining about the theme. We need to pivot the market. I propose a new spectator sport: let's swap out the aggressive bulls for the internet crybabies who find something to weep about in every comment section. Imagine a master matador elegantly sweeping a brilliant red muleta over their tear-filled eyes while they run in circles trying to tell everyone their unsolicited opinions. Now *that* is high art."

Opens as a funny fruity feminine fragrance with dominated smokey Pear vibe ( similar to that in Amouage Guidance ) with creamy buttery coconut vibe...it is captivating & charming...within one hour it changes with introduction of woody incense mixed with Passion fruit vibe, with gradually appearing powerful Leathery vibe taking it towards the masculine side ( now it is similar to Oud Maracuja vibe )...it is seductive & heavenly blended.... I like this! Reading the notes had me thinking this might lean quite feminine, but after trying it, I can see this being decently unisex. While many of the votes and reviews allude to this resembling Amouage’s Guidance, I was actually reminded of Xerjoff’s Tony Iommi Deified - not in the sense that they’re identical, but in that they share resembling qualities. They’re both rose and leather dominant, and they share that same airy quality where despite being strong projectors, the scent itself is not overwhelming. Whilst Deified is more focused on the rose/saffron in the opening, Matador’s rose note is supplemented by an elegant fruity passion fruit accord. Ultimately, Matador is a lovely rosey, leathery, and fruity creation. Definitely worth a try!

I came here to comment for all the idiots that like to complain. The bulls are killed everywhere, for meat, get it through your heads, the difference being the age, a little over a year at the slaughter house after a life living in basically a concentration camp OR at over 4 years in the arena after a perfect life. The bull killed in the arena lives 3 to 4 times longer and the quality of life is not even debateable. So enough with the pearl clutching and virtue signalling, you do not care about the animals, you care about your feelings and that is all. The hypocrisy is real. It is ok not to like the corrida, but please stop with outrage and eye rolling.

Ramon Monegal is underrated; that is my first observation. He is Spanish perfumery royalty. Matador is an interesting composition that smells familiar, think Bvlgari Black or Burning Barbershop by Durga, but more modern and better. It's a leathery, vanillic, musky, floral fragrance. Definitely unisex in a creamy way, the combination of coconut and vanilla gives it a banana vibe (very subtle).

I'll give you a tip, if Ramom says the perfume is killer, you can trust him! One of the best perfumes of the year in my opinion! Rubberized leather with coconut, almost no flowers and almost no spices. Passion fruit is also there with the coconut, but very discreet. Sexy, original and powerful! 9/10 Another great work from the master is born!

Matador Ramon Monegal: TBH I was so sure this would be Beastmode; I was very disappointed. It's however an incredibly tropical leathery beauty but with inconsistent longevity. There's also a sweet fruity but clean airiness to this one that I quite enjoyed. It's a stunner no doubt; I just wished it had more longevity (4hours or so).

First impression: Matador is a musky rose with a hint of incense, decorated with pear and touches of tropical fruits. In the end, it’s still a musky rose. I guess it’s fine if you can get it for around $100.

This sounds close to ( in notes ) Xerjoff Monkey Special, minus the rum, but added coconut. I may have to give this a try. Hope samples are available soon.
