Ten Fresh Notes

Perhaps the most beautiful citrus aromatic I have tried. Peach, blackcurrant leaf and galbanum sets it apart from “the rest” and give a herbal-aromatic direction that is really special. It reminded me of a very old school Peach Cocktail Bitters I own — do not think fruity-sweet, it is rather a play on the bitter almond facets. Cannot see oakmoss listed on the packaging, but it seems prominent and, if it is a synthetic replacement, credible. The base as such is quite classy: oakmoss together with vetiver and musk. One thing I keep pondering about is how the galbanum gives a “summer chypre” vibe to the wearing. Very evocative, but greener and lighter than a proper chypre centered around labdanum, and a brilliant idea. Compared to the more orthodox chypre Etruscan Water I think Monegal strikes this balance between earthy elegance and summer freshness perfectly. Although I love ET it will never be a summer wear for me. There is enough in here to keep it going well into the autumn, and it is therefore challenging the limiting concept of summer freshie. It also helps that it seems to be a smallish niche business that has released som five dozen scents in some 15 years. Excellent performance, no beast mode but tenacious and discreet without being weak. It is a modernist having been schooled by the classics, I am reminded of the 2010 Eau Sauvage Extreme and how it relates to the 1966 OG, at least we are in the same ballpark (or art gallery if you prefer).

Ramon is a genius, and I'm not saying that based on just this piece where he's snuck in a few famous antiques that he's modernized and made wearable in these so-called "modern" times. What's most interesting is that the "old guys" rotate and take turns one after the other, like on a merry-go-round. 10/10 and of course only for men 💪, aunties and horny teenagers STOP.

Refreshing for summer, a well-blended pomelo grapefruit fragrance.

This scent is really interesting on my skin. It opens with a very clear lime peel note — cool, zesty, and slightly sharp, almost like the essential oil from fresh lime leaves. After about 15 minutes, I start to notice a soft grassy tone with a light sweetness from orange. It actually reminds me of the feeling of zesting lime over the cheesecakes my mom used to make. A really nice fragrance for hot days. Longevity is around 7 hours on my skin, which is pretty good for a fresh everyday scent.

A fresh fragrance that doesn’t vanish by noon, true to its name, 10 Fresh Notes is a symphony of crisp, clean accords. While many fresh fragrances fade quickly, this one lingers quite well. The sillage is moderate yet confident, making it ideal for close encounters without overwhelming a room. It’s the perfect companion for hot summer days, office environments, or casual outings. A versatile gentlemen fragrance worth an investment.

Nothing juicy about this one, but clean smelling and seems to improve as you move and sweat. I like this for work and day time wear in the heat of summer.

Classic, fresh and good longevity. But not my kind of scent.

Ramon Monegals Kaleidoscope collection is deep-diving into the classic men's grooming heritage, pre-90s. Ten Fresh Notes associates vaguely with YSL Pour Homme, Moustache, Chanel Pour Monsieur, even Eau d'Hadrien - not literally, but in the approach. Uncompromisingly bitter focus on citrus combined with oakmoss and galbanum both comforting but unmistakably leaking the old-school vibe. I first dismissed Ten Fresh Notes in favor of Invisible But Cool but it quickly grew on me because of its high quality. It's a strange territory: extremely well done niche quality covering quite forgotten old tropes. You have to wear it to appreciate it for the confident yet carefree mood it creates. On top of this, all names in the collection are just terrible. So a scent like this is made possible only because of the particular obsession of Ramon Monegal with the Myrurgia heritage and with making good scents regardless of trends or obsolescence of the concept. In interview, he often talks about the pros and cons of being an independent perfumer. One may think it's always about kinky unusual stuff; turns out it might be about usual tropes done right when you have true passion and understanding. The Kaleidoscope collection is an example of such independence in action. I enjoy it a lot.

Very green scent to me. Bright and fresh. I kinda like it and I kinda don’t. Probably because I’m not used to green scents. They are one of the only category’s of scents I have yet to dive deeper to see if I enjoy some but I don’t hate it, just parts of it feel a bit too herbal to me, almost vegetable garden like but in the best way! Kind of addictive to smell honestly but not sure I would want to smell like this if that makes sense or maybe it would be something I would just wear at home... not sure. I’m 50/50 on it. I will have to wear on skin to make a better judgement. For now I find it to be nicely blended just a little different from what I’m used to.

This is beautiful. Its smells like an elevated barbershop type cologne. Someone compared this to Égoïste. I see what they mean, there’s a hint of it, kind of like when it’s a warm day but the wind is cold. We say in French “the bottom of the air is fresh” to describe that dual feeling. Here, it’s not a typical freshly as the “bottom of the scent” has something warm (smelling a bit like égoïste). Not for me but still beautiful.

Almost a one for one of Moustache Original 1949 (Rochas). I couldn't believe it. Just a bit more cleaned up and gone is the sharpness and the cheap synthetic musc note. And the peach is a Rorschach peach. Some may smell peach, some may smell it for what it is, and that's an accord of neroli, bergamot, lemon... I really don't know, but I'm just taking a stab at it. I have Moustache Original 1949. Next.

I get a strong lime note/accord and I would second the shaving foam/barbershop feeling. Smells like a cheap cologne. Charging € 210 for this is pure theft.
