L'Aigle de la Victoire

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner! L'Aigle De La Victoire is an uncompromising, straight-forward and extremely potent skanky / woody leather that immediately gained a spot up there together with the most popular testosterone-monsters in this genre. I'm gonna give you a bunch of parameters so that you can't say you haven't been warned of what kind of monster this is. Rien and Leather Oud are the first ones that come to mind. If not for objective similarities (which are there BTW), surely for their striking and uncompromising iterations of leather...but then also, Boadicea The Victorious Complex, Mazzolari Lui, Montecristo, Oud 27, Yatagan, Parfum D'Habit...ok I'll stop it here. So, it's an hardcore sweaty leather with a thick animalic presence and green-resinoid (incense) facets. A dirty patch note reinforces the overall dark-woody vibe by providing a kind of creepy vein. The most interesting aspect though, is that L'Aigle De La Vctoire is built around an extremely classic bone structure that brings to mind of several masculine chypres of the past while still feeling anything but derivative. Again, thick, ballsy, daring and, in the end, even reasonably priced. Kudos to Rancè 1795 for delivering such a anachronistic and unapologetic beauty. Tremendous sillage and beyond exceptional longevity. Skank-lovers, you've been warned. The others, should probably stay carefully away from this. Rating: 8.5-9/10

Rance 1795 L'Aigle de la Victoire. the blast of patchouli and leathery notes in the opening is harsh and it comes so suddenly like thunder striking on your head in midnight. very soon, i recover from the shock and now i can pick the mysterious birch note and it's getting stronger but tenderer at the same time. it's like i'm stepping into a forest somewhere in Europe. it's cold and quiet first. i sense danger coming out from somewhere at anytime. however, this scent has become so comfortable that calms me down... it's like a shelter to protect me from harm. i feel fantastic being covered by this scent. the very final touch that i get at the end is very similar to that i get from Carner Barcelona Cuirs, which i also adore very much. L'Aigle de la Victoire is by far my best blind buy in 2016! it lasts over 24 hours on paper and approximately 10 hours on my skin. great sillage.

Bonaparte, then and now = reformulation I am a huge fan of this classy-beastly sophisticated, mannered animal. I hate it that Rance reformulated it back in 2017-2018. The bottle I own is the original formulation and it smells divine. Takes me back to an era I dont know- European Middle Ages. So vintage, so SMOKY, so masculine, such a beastly performing scent. All went away with the reformulation due to IFF new restrictions, I reckon. Nr 1 don't blind buy. It is extremely unique, and unmatched with any tabacco scent you may have sampled, including AKRO Smoke. The old formulation is in my top 5 fragrances of all times (so far).

Beautiful. An animalic expression of birch and leather. At first I thought it smells like excrement, a lot of excrement in a bag. Wrong. This is not it. To me it's birch at its best, wrapped in leather and some musk plus some spices to make it even more interesting. Longevity and sillage - both are through the roof. I had to take three(!) showers to wash it off me for good. This is a winner, the best fragrance released in 2013, without any doubts.

it is a dirty very masculine scent it smells like sweat and foot odor it is so attractive that you love it every time you wear it i love it from the first moment i smelled it it is the smell right after sex it attracts you so much that i wonder when i see another person that i don't know about myself. i think every man should wear it at some point in his life when he wants to feel the ultimate sexual being. you will love it i am sure.

یک کار چرمی منحصر به فرد و وحشی من نسخه قبل از رفرموله رو دارم و این رویو رو بر اساس اون میدم یک کار چرمی سنگین،غلیظ تاریک و البته بسیار انیمالیک و چرک شخصا لذت بردم با لباس کاملا مشکی یک دست ست میشه و البته کمی پوشش شما باید آوانگارد و نامتعارف باشه چون این کار نسبت به کارهای چرمی دیگه متفاوت و آوانگارد هست ماندگاری بسیار بالا و پخش خیلی خوب کسایی که میگن بوی طویله میده پیشنهاد میکنم همون تام فوردتوسکان لدر استفاده کنن 😅

Hi JustinSlayer, The cigarette smell is very very dominant in the first 5-10 min of the original version. The reformulation smells a bit like urine in the opening, I did not even want to continue smelling it. The original will always be in my top 5 perfumes for life, the reformulation is subdued.

Well..looks like the eagle turned into a pigeon They have reformulated it... and it's less than half the power and the beauty of the old one. There goes another beauty...

Very deep dirty dark wild leather Unique Wear all black with this one

I sprayed it today on my skin for the first time. The opening is very strong & intensive. A bitter floral, woody & spicy scent and a little bit citrusy. I think the floral bitterness is from Thyme. YES! it's definitely thyme. :D I don't have a skilled nose, but I could smell some dirty animalic scent from the beginning that lasts until the end . After some minutes (about 30) that herbal-floral and citrusy notes became moderate, you can clearly smell leather, oud and vetiver. But not that kind you probably get used to it. This oud is very oriental. Vetiver & leather have some old-dirty mood. As I know "Victorie" designed by Jeanne Sandra Rancé in the tribute to Napoleon. So it should smell like this; An Old Powerful Masculine scent. "L'Aigle de la Victoire" has moderate sillage with great longevity. It doesn't suit me, but I really admire and like it.

Not for the faint hearted, it is a very competitive and self-assured scent, that is as domineering as it is imperiously manly. At first glance you may think of him too assertively dominant, ballsy to the point of almost annoying, but he is just a naturally masculine and macho animal who always wears black leather driving gloves (with a tad of a short men in high heeled boots complex). It could also easily be mistaken for one of Tom of Finlands half dressed in leather / half naked (indulging in sodomy acts against a birch tree) yummy characters as well. This is a male essence in a bottle. WARNING: proceed with caution!

This opens very sharp and spicy on the skin. Almost makes you recoil as the sharp citrus and spice top notes bounce off the skin. Incredibly masculine, reminds me of an 80s man's aftershave like Kouros or something similarly masculine. As it dries down and the top dissipates it becomes softer, definitely a little oudy and woody with a little powdery florals and gentle animalic notes. Where to wear this? For me it's not a dinner scent, could be worn to a club or bar but not really ideal. For me this is a day at the races, well dressed rolls of cash not plastic and leaving empty handed but happy.

I have old batch with the smell is very strong oud and spicy, it will get you nauseous if overspray

My batch is YB234. It's a 1,5ml sample. First encounter is bewildering. I read the list of notes and compared to what I got on my wrist and struggle to find anything matching. I could squint my eyes and flex all my olfactory muscles and then I could pick up citric component over a pungent sour oud and a dash of some kind of ( again sour) leather, which one would find in Knize Ten. And even then it'd be a stretch. If Rance produced a colour instead of perfume then this would be something yellow/brown/olive green. Like an eastern European mustard. The smell itself does resemble a strong mustard smell indeed. With a touch of fermented cucumber juice ( kiszony ogórek). I get some juniper berries also somewhere atop. I'm from Poland and these are all familiar scents but strictly in culinary context. I do not find them overly offensive but so so! odd in a perfume. I hoped that the opening will lead to, at least something extremely green, because there is this promise woven in there that it will change direction, but it never does. It stays mustardy all the way. I kept my vial for almost a year now after first application and found no change in the profile. Fortunately mine is not very strong in terms of projection and stays on skin for about 5 hours. I could bear smelling like I've spilled some mustard on myself if there was a good context to do so, but I fail to imagine one.

Again I want to use my right to disagree with many of the comments. I ordered the sample.of this parfum with very high expectations by looking at the ingredient list and the rating and the comments, but it was an utter disappointment for me. It opens with the citrus smell of discount lemon shaving cream of cosmetic markets, spends good half an hour there with no change, so that you can assure yourself that it was a mistake to wear that, then while you are considering to rubb it off by soap, some faint frankincense enters like a reluctant player, almost against his wish into the game with a very poor performance. And that's it. No Oud, not a single trace of birch,and I can swear on anything you want that there isn't a slightest hint of leather or patchouli either. Either the sample that I ordered has been mistaken or mixed with sth else, or expired, or the company changed the formula.I am not sure.But one thing that I don't doubt, this fragrance as of December 2018 doesn't represent the igredient list we are seeing above.And it's so diluted and faint that nothing remains there after one hour (in my opinion)

my gosh it was one of the best perfume i've ever smelled and now it's a urinous mess! It's a Waterloo! Run away of this shit...shame on you Rancé

Napoleon underpants after a big victory should smell approximately like this ! Superb!

I brought home a sample of L'Aigle de la Victoire from my local perfume shop, along with a few others, noteworthy for their skank/tar notes. The opening of this one rivals that of my beloved Oud Cuir D'Arabie, although they smell differently. Four tiny sprays from my little sample vial kept my nose more or less surrounded by a wonderfully rich and raunchy composition for an entire day. I think what I like most about this one is the unique dry down, which maintains much of the skankiness while avoiding the amber/vanilla dry down of Knize Ten (which is quite civilized, compared to L'AdlV). For the whole day, I felt engulfed in a warm cloud of perfectly balanced raunchy leather and green, woody herbs and incense. I haven't been this excited about an animalic leather fragrance in quite a while! You must try this because nothing else smells like it.

Super dry fecal dusty leather and oud, I smell neither bergamot nor raspberry, the super earthy base for me is not patchouli but Nagarmotha whose ueber dusty smell reminds of Henna powder once widely used to paint hair. Really masculine but too close to skin, very minimal sillage and projection. It evokes something very gloomy, much more than Black Tourmaline or the similar. Not too pricey for being "niche" but anyway overpriced for what you get. 6,5/10 PS: Maybe I'm testing the reformulated since it's so light...@Rstefan I guess so..today I'm testing "Celtic Fire" by Union, if you haven't try it, it's a peat and birch tar monster and I'm loving it!! One of the best liquid smokes ever smelled

Lordamercy, this is heinous. I could smell this catastrophe from the sample vial before it was even sprayed, emanating from the orifice of the nozzle. I knew already this was going to be a rough ride. Holy wee-wee, there is far too much of some sort of castoreum accord. I love the note of castoreum—but not like this. I might as well huff the pure goo from the beaver's castor pod, for which I already have and can use for reference. This is superimposed over a bleu cheese oud. Yum. I will hold on to this sample for shits and giggles.

This is rough and not for your average Joe/Jane. It needs to be appreciated though. Leather is a note that can be challenging for me. Strong leather fragrances (like this one) can trigger my avoidance. On the contrary, I really like oud. In this case, I do not get oud, just a relentless punch in my nostrils with that leather. Pure leather, not the rawhyde type as in L'Artisan Dzing! If you are a leather fan, this is the one. Unfortunately prices doubled since last time I checked at discounters.

Aristocratic perfume with a strong aura - fitting for a scent whose inspiration is the hallmark victory of Napoleon. Powdery cedar with powerful leather undertones. With a dash of warm herbal patchouli with animalic hints. I have the new version, which is very wearable. Good sillage and longevity. It's complex formula is a pleasure to wear, and although mostly linear, there are some subtle nuances during the drydown that bring out oud and bergamot. Classic masculine French sophistication.

est on: paper strip. Impression: wood, old wooden cabinet drawer. It's perfectly the same scent as my drawer in my bedroom, at my parents house. I always wondering why my drawer smells extremely pungent. Hate the scent. But now, the nostalgic scent, kinda grows in me. And goes into my wishlist. More in depth review after purchase. Clone: Ralph lauren green.

I love this one. It is dirty and musky and leather. Just everything I love. I’m so glad to own a bottle. It is similar in effect to Dior Leather Oud, although I think even better. Or Hard Leather, another one that you could compare this to. I think some who love dirty animalics, as I do, will turn from hate to love for this, if they stick with it.

Amazing fragrance! The first blast is Leather Oud by Dior. After it settles, a heavy incense note comes forward making it the only real thing distinguishable from Dior’s. Might be a great substitute for the now discontinued Leather Oud.

Warning! This perfume had been reformulated and is very different from what is described in these reviews. They (Rancé) have decided to lighten the original with the prospect of selling more easily. Pity.

All I can say is that this is not for the faint-hearted, and this is certainly not for the hot weather. This has an aura, as a rich aristocrat would smell like.

How do i differentiate the reformulated version from the original bottles when buying online <? THANKS
