Le Vainqueur

I first smelled it from a sample on tester paper a couple months ago and it smells pretty good or as I remember, so I bought it on my trip recently. Now when I'm actually have it and try it on my skin I can totally understand the negative comments below. Honestly I'm not a fan of the opening of this scent. It has a sharp, cheap fruity soapy opening from a decade ago or something. But this is also a great example that you can't judge a scent until you completely experience all the notes to the end. Le Vainqueur takes about 15 mins to finally show all of its potential. When all the cheap opening notes fade and the middle/base notes kick in, you will have an great airy, powdery, classical, masculine scent. This is the exactly great scent that I smelled from the paper and I can tell now that on skin the top notes fade much slower than on paper. This is not an edgy but a very well rounded clean scent for men. I see it suits well for both office setting and casual day out. The composition of the scent looks complex but each ingredient blends so well with each other that it makes you feel like the scent has just 1 ingredient. This aspect makes the scent fit well for minimalist dressing guys. So the end point is give the scent a little bit more time and you will find the treasure.

As others have stated, this one is somewhat unique for its melon-ginger forward opening and powdery musk-leather dry down. I don't know if I believe in the pretentious history of the brand (as a big fan of Napoleonic history), but this is by far the best of the Rancé 1795 offerings for men. Most of the others, by comparison, smell like generic reiterations of poorly formulated 90's synthetic EDCs. It does smell pleasant to my nose, and also classical due to the familiar harmony of notes in the drydown. The longevity is good, 6 hours on my skin, which is very good for a citrus fragrance even in EDP concentration. Unfortunately my tastes have outgrown this one, mainly in what it offers for the price. There are much better fragrances to be had at the same price point, and similar ones for far less. If it was ~$50, I would have no problem buying another bottle, but I can't justify another bottle at the current retail asking price. Smell: 8/10 Longevity: 8/10 Sillage: Medium-Mild Price: 6/10

I love this fragrance. I've recently bought it and I love its exquisite appearance. The scent is long lasting, quite distinctive but not the most distinctive....It smells quite polite, and expensive :P Something I would recommend if you can afford something a little more pricey. Its worth it

Although this is EDP strength, on my skin its a soft and sensual fruity/woody combo. The opening is something else, sweet juicy watermelon and melon which dries down to an amazing vetiver scent. Scent - 8 Projection - 7 Longevity - 7

No other fragrance has women stopping me in the streets or making it a point to tell me I smell amazing during my day. This fragrance hands down is most likely to compel women to stop you and talk to you about how amazing you smell.

Le Vainqueur, this is Pegasus Exclusif with a bit sweet.

Rancé is a heritage brand whose modern offerings are supposedly in keeping with the brand's tradition. Le Vainqueur is a simple, linear masculine freshie, synthetically aquatic in the manner of "sport" scents from the noughties. While it is reasonably pleasant, it is banal - and certainly seems to be a far cry from a cologne befitting a royal court. LV has a very aquatic opening, quite synthetic. There is a slight window cleaner quality here, but it is reasonably fresh and fruity. Watermelon can be a difficult note for me, and this isn't the best rendering of it, but it befits a freshie like this. I much prefer classic citrus colognes, and while there is some citrus here, it is faint. There is a nice aromatic undertone thanks to the soft spices and herbal notes that emerge after the watermelon-dominant opening subsides. The lavender is quite prominent, followed by green geranium. I get warm nutmeg too, and clean, powdery florals round it out. The drydown is predictably musky and woody, remaining light and aquatic until final fade. Sillage is moderate and longevity is weak. LV is pretty synthetic overall, but not unpleasant. A masculine aquatic scent for spring/summer, LV is inoffensive but unremarkable. 2.5/5.

This is my favorite of the Imperiale collection from Rance. I highly doubt this is some re-release of a 1700s composition, but it is a very wearable fragrance for most men during warmer months. As with other Imperiale frags, this one gives 90s designer frag vibes. It opens with a pretty significant citrus, ginger, and watermelon note that very quickly disappears. What is actually interesting is what the drydown/base notes deliver because I wasn't prepared for that. Despite the official notes provided by Rance and here, the base notes are PURE oakmoss. So much so that hours after application, I was thinking it was clone-level similar to the base notes in Geo F Trumper's Curzon EdC. Just a bit softer. While I have generally disliked the entire Imperiale line (I have had a chance to try 4 of them) this one is actually quite serviceable. Not that any of them are "bad" fragrances btw. Just that they are all different expressions of 90s designer fragrance, while pretending to be some sort of release true to its historic roots.

La Vainqueur starts out quite bright and fruity, especially citrus and melon. then it quickly becomes stronger and more masculine with something sharp with an incensey woodsy quality. The fresh and sweet fruity notes just come and go on their own, and they hold the scent back from becoming too sharp and old-fashioned. While the incensey quality doesn't let the scent get too cheerful either. I don't really get the middle notes much at all. Definitely I can't smell any white floral notes here. Phew! Overall the scent is good. The sharpness (almost metallic) is required a little getting used to and can be pleasant. It smells more modern than it looks. Something I wouldn't expect from this old vintage-like bottle. It's very long lasting, but the price is quite hefty.

this is one of my favourites. it may smell generic but it lasts a lot longer than any similar designer scents

This is probably one of the better scent of the Rance men's line. This scent reminds me a little of Clive Christian 1872 men and Giorgio Armani Acqua di gio. The melon, citrus and ginger give it a cool sweet effect almost like mint but not mint. For some reason this scent does have a generic old "one hit wonder" vibe to it, like something you could have bought at any convenient store. This scent isn't ground-breaking but its good. I'd say the most appealing part of this fragrance to my nose is the melon and ginger. This would make for great warm weather choice. My advice to the wearer if you're going to some tropical location where is warm, this could be a solid pick. I see ages 21-40 wearing this. *Longevity 7/10 I get about 6-7 hours from this scent *Projection 7/10 starts to soften as it dries down *Daytime scent in spring/summer or warm climates

This is the quintessential early 2000s fresh-synthetic masculine designer viewed through the lens of so-called niche perfumery. However, it is by no means any improvement. It starts off reasonably well with a blast, which is a melange fresh-green fruity-floral-aquatic notes; thereafter it grows more crude, more annoying, and more grating with each hour. At about the three hour mark this is nothing but Burberry Weekend for Men with a facelift. Sillage is adequate, and so seems to be duration - which might not actually be a good thing in this case. 1.5/5 (negative)

Le Vainqueur, my first ever fragrance. A fresh citrus opening, a powdery flower bridge, a leathery finish. I’ll admit when I first tested it, the opening was what won me over. However, as I got to continue using this fragrance, the middle and base notes were more noticeable. Definitely pricey and not blind buy material, so get yourself a tester if you’re unsure. As it is the one that got me into fragrances, this is a 7/10 for me. Note that everyone interprets scents differently, so give it a test to find out what you truly feel about it :D
