Musc Moschus

People wanted to try my samples at a house party, so I got the chance to put this against other fragrances. Out of 15 top-rated niche fragrances, this one and BR540 got the most universal love. Many of our community favorites were destroyed by this critical jury! Anything citrusy was labeled bathroom cleaner. Meanwhile most people had a surprised positive reaction to this and nobody commented negatively. One person did say this resembled a teenage bodywash, but that it's still a nice smell lol. Most described this as unisex, slightly feminine-leaning and sweet-clean. This is also my favorite fragrance out of +300. These blind ratings and the positive reactions I get make me wonder why this is so forgotten. Read the other reviews below, compliments are constantly mentioned. A strong (but not overwhelming) perfume that everyone likes SHOULD be popular, right? This can last through the washer on fabric and projects for hours. A guy could still smell me on his pillow a week later... Even my 1 daily spray gets noticed. Sensitive people haven't been irritated by me wearing this, no aggressive or scratchy materials. A massive dose of ambrettolide and sandalwood molecules makes this last all day. This is an extremely musk-heavy fragrance, thus the name. It's surprising because gourmand + musk isn't a typical combo. Usually "musk fragrance" means dryer sheet white laundry musk. I get no laundry connotation here. Sweetness is the main theme here. It's best described with chocolate pudding + vanilla whipped cream + dark blackcurrant jam + buttered popcorn. But this also has light, clean, icy-cold mineralic powdery notes for balance. There's even a camphorous and coniferous hint from cashmeran to cut through the sticky sweetness. The beauty of contrasting textures harmonizing so well is what makes this smell expensive and complex to me. The final effect is lifted and not cloying for a gourmand. Definitely less cloying than BR540 to my nose. So if you consider BR540 an all-year-round fragrance, this one is as well. Just grab a sample to see if me and everyone around me are crazy! EDIT: I've tried the voted similarities. None are very similar. They either lack gourmand notes and lean waxy-soapy despite other similarity (Musk Therapy), smell very hollow and thin (Mula Mula) or simply lack many important notes like iris and sandalwood (La Cautiva). A surprising similarity I've found is a tea called "Paris" by Harney & Sons! It smells and tastes like a tea version of this fragrance. I'm surprised there's no dupe, considering the notes here are so common. At least none that I've tried or others have voted. This is an amalgamation of a million pretty things without being identical to any of them.

Finished my sample, and immediately got a full bottle to join my collection of 5. I've tried +200. Who knew Essenza-Nobile's random unsolicited sample knew my taste better than me? I'm just grateful that Rania J. broke out of complex ouds to create this pretty fragrance! This is the only vanilla-heavy fragrance that I actually love. Indult's Tihota is close, but it has a migraine-inducing smoky note. If I smell this until I go nose-blind, and then smell Tihota, it smells only of that headache part. All the good parts vanish because they're in here. I've also discovered one (1) single vanilla shampoo that I love, and its vanilla is just like the one here. It's not a caramelized thick gourmand vanilla. More like a powdery clean, yet still somewhat sweet vanilla. The sweetness is perfectly balanced to not become cloying. I often ask friends and family for blind opinions on stuff I love. All reactions to this have been exceptionally positive. Everyone recognized the vanilla and musk, calling this super smooth without any off notes, "the scent of sweet living", summery, slightly reminiscent of shampoo/conditioner, balanced, and not too heavy or cloying. I also got two unsolicited compliments at work within the first hour. Which is just insane considering I live in Finland. This is some good and underrated stuff. I guess the fans of a dark amber-oud niche brand just aren't looking for, or aren't wowed by a pretty fruity vanilla scent. People would eat this up as a designer release. Except then it would be of lower quality, because this definitely has prominent natural blackcurrant. Its distinct bitter scent is balanced by sweet creaminess. I would be shocked if the sandalwood wasn't natural as well, for a brand that focuses on naturals. The final effect is a beautiful, full-bodied, super-likable, quality scent. Definitely grab a sample if my description sounds up your alley!

Rania J Musc Moschus smells like a strawberry creme saver hard candy but imagine with a bit more black currant berry mixed in. There’s also a powdery accord from the iris in this composition to match the creaminess from the sandalwood mostly and cashmeran. The balance of powdery and creamy mimicking orris root. The cream saver smell in here also reminds me of Kajal Almaz too but that one veers more pepto bismol imo. To me, Musc Moschus does not smell like Initio Musk Therapy. I feel like people vote on similar fragrances based on similar names, bottle, juice color, and/or notes listed without actually experiencing the fragrance. In this case, musk being in both of their names doesn’t mean they smell alike. They both do have a pretty creamy musk, this being sweeter, girlier with different fruit notes. Creamier but also still airy. The texture to me is exact to Jo Malone Scarlet Poppy and it's something I've been looking for that I could wear all year, since I can't for that. Now that I have Cheirosa 59, this would be the perfume version that lasts longer and is less sugared in the opening. Also like Gucci Virgin Violet since that one is also creamy, has that Glossier You iris, and is not too sweet. In fact the Gucci one may be fresher than the two. Never considered violet being a note in Musc Moschus, but after smelling a good amount of sweet violet scents, it's in here along with the other purple floral iris. Probably the black currant and iris together creating that violet illusion. This is the kind of general sweet violet profile I like, as opposed to really candied ones, even though I get a powder confection and specific creme saver sweetness here. Anyways, the price is great at $165 for a 50 mL which almost tempted me to blindly purchase (I now have this almost a year later). It lasts a long time too, 7-10 hours, with soft projection.

This isn’t a loud or animalic musk—it's a soft, sensual veil of scent with a refined depth. What sets it apart is the way vanilla and blackcurrant are woven in—not sweet, but dark, smooth, and slightly fruity, adding richness and warmth without tipping into gourmand territory. The blackcurrant note is particularly striking: not juicy or syrupy, but more of a velvety, purple-skinned berry with a quiet tartness that lingers in the background. It adds a subtle contrast to the creamy musk and soft woods, keeping the scent interesting and dimensional. Most impressively, there’s no ambroxan sharpness, so the musk stays warm, breathable, and skin-like throughout. This is the kind of scent that’s perfect for the office or scent-sensitive environments—elegant, close-wearing, and non-intrusive, yet still undeniably present. It doesn't shout, but it leaves a graceful impression. Spray it in your hair or on your neck and you’ll still catch whiffs of it hours later—it has excellent longevity (10+ hours) and wears like a second skin. Musc Moschus is for lovers of true musks, especially if you appreciate the sensual warmth of Narciso Rodriguez For Her (the extrait), Frederic Malle Musc Ravageur, or the base of Le Labo Tonka 25, but want something a bit more raw and organic.

I think this needs to macerate because everyone says it’s so jammy sweet from the black currant and that it’s this magical sweet musk which I haven’t gotten much of in the first few weeks I had it but I will say now it’s slowly becoming sweeter. Still not what others made it seem like so hopefully it continues to grow in potency with the notes coming out more and lasting longer while projecting a bit better but my reason for coming here to post a little review.. I made a layering combination that is so decadent I think I’m obsessed. Musk Therapy from Initio has always been one of my favorite clean fruity scents with just the right amount of musk but I was fooling around and wondered if musc moschus would layer well since a few of the notes are similar and wow oh wow did this combo really amp up the beauty and sweetness of that black currant. It’s sugary sweet musky goodness while still having that rich and creaminess that musk therapy has.. that high quality fresh creaminess that makes you smell rich and feel cozy.. well that mixed in with musc moschus is intoxicating. Truly intoxicating.. best sweet musk scent of the year that should be bottled as is own fragrance because it’s that perfect. They are an iconic duo that make each other better. I recommend anyone that has both fragrances give this layering combo a try. It will work for any time of year but especially now. Thank me later!!

As a musk scent lover, I just knew this would be a love at first sniff but this one definitely had to grow on me. The more I wore it, the more I liked it. This is a beautiful “your skin but better” type of scent. It’s clean, sweet, cozy, and creamy with a powdery drydown. I understand the comparison to La Cautiva by Fueguia 1833. The black currant, vanilla and musk combo are beautifully done in both. However, the black currant is WAY more dominant and juicy in La Cautiva. Those three notes are more blended and more wearable in MM. The comparison to Initio’s Musk Therapy is one I don’t understand. These two smell nothing alike other than the fact they both smell clean. The musk in Musk Therapy is much sharper and it’s more citrus and bright. I completely agree with the Victoria Secret comments. If this scent went viral today, I bet you every woman that wore Love Spell in school back in the day would have this in their collection. They do not smell the same. However, the vibe is definitely similar. I could wear this year round but some may say the powderiness is too much for the summer heat. Although it’s soft, my sample projected off my wrist for about 4 hours but lasted all day long.

This perfume is so dainty and feminine, it’s stunning. This is a fragrance I’d love for people to think I just... smell like? My skin, but better. This is a fragrance where I’d be surprised to get a compliment on, it seems like one of those sneaky ones that can fool people that that’s just how wonderful I smell... not a “oh, I wonder what perfume they’re wearing?”! It’s light, but beautiful. Delicate. This is something I can wear on my skin all day every day and not have to think about it... which is to say, it’s safe to just keep on, because I’m fairly certain it would layer beautifully with just about everything. It reminds me of Dama Bianca, even though the scent profile isn’t similar. Just a similar vibe, I suppose. Just so elegant and beautiful. This is an absolute must, I need a full bottle instantly scent!! As an aside, I ordered a sample after hearing a recommendation to go with this over musk therapy. Feeling very confused, there is like absolutely no overlap in the two. Like at all. Musk therapy is child’s play compared to this!! For a musk, DEFINITELY Musc Moschus.... In my opinion, this can be worn all day every day all year round.

This is not what I expected at all. It has a sugary quality to it, like literally white sugar. Fairly quickly there is something almost icy, cold...like smelling fresh cold air...not peppermint, but it’s slightly pointing towards that direction. Strange, very unique and interesting. Invigorating, uplifting...playful. Makes me think of the arctic circle...shimmering white snow, the cold, the animals, some trees in the distance. It’s freezing and my mouth starts to water as I’m crushing sugar cubes between my teeth. I see some black currant and feel overwhelming heat rising along my spine...I pick them up and eat them...I smell my fingers and they release an aroma of soft woods and even a hint of vanilla...I might be hallucinating... I’m tempted to say this is unusually sexy. Tested from an original sample sent from RaniaJ. Worth noting that on RaniaJ web site the list of notes is; bergamot, iris, vanilla, sandalwood, black currant and musk.

Even though I am registered on fragrantica for more than a decade, I haven't posted much here. However, since the review section here is rather empty I felt like giving my input. On the search for a new fragrance a local niche store gave me a sniff of Rania's Musc. I'm usually not too keen on musc dominant scents but this one is so well blended I really liked it much to my surprise. Now to the crazy part: I sprayed one spritzer of this juice on my left wrist 24 hours ago and before going to bed I scrubbed my wrist with soap. Guess what, I can still smell it on my skin. In an era of watered down and reformulated mainstream perfumes, this is impressive and welcomed. I will definitely get this one. Edit: Bought it today. The drydown is really nice and the scent morphs into an addictive musc, vanilla and black currant combo.

On my skin Musc Moschus is equal parts musk and vanilla, with the other notes maybe adding up to balance the scent. I don’t smell the sandalwood or Iris individually, but I did pull out the black currant in the opening. I don’t think I have anything even remotely like this powdery sweet musk. It’s an unusual musk scent with a spun sugar quality that is probably coming from the vanilla pod. All the notes feel natural, and I’m curious to try wearing Musc Moschus in the summer (but it might be too much). The way I wear this, it feels like a normal body scent. What I mean is that it doesn’t seem like a perfume—when I wear it somehow it blends perfectly and becomes part of my body. Just super normal in the best way imagined. My third Rania J. Purchase, and it’s a love.

To me this is not similar to Musk Therapy, which has a prominent citrus note and which is why it gives me shampoo vibes. Musc Moschus, on the other hand, is soft, buttery and deep. I think it’s the iris combined with the sandalwood. I always thought that I didn‘t like musk(y) scents, but as I‘ve come to realize it all boils down to the composition. I may be stating the obvious, but as a perfume beginner I have learned my lesson. :) If you are like me and don‘t like the smell of ultra clean/shampooey musk scents mixed with prominent florals (e.g. Pure Musc for Her by NR) and are more drawn to cosy musks, this is the one!

I dont get the comparison to Initio Musk Therapy. They are both clean musky scents and thats about all they have in common. To me this is much heavier on the black currant and vanilla while Musk Therapy has more citrus and sandalwood. This also has the addition of of a supporting iris note. They are both clean, creamy unisex musk scents however, i find MM to be more sweet and feminine leaning and MT is less sweet and ultimatly more unisex. I think im becoming more of a musk fan than i previously was, learning to appreciate the simplicity of a well done clean, pretty musk.

I’m so glad to have tried this, the first whiff right after you spray is so good. I wish that too note lasted throughout. The musc is nice and overall to me Musc Moschus is what I thought Narciso would’ve been. That being said, I prefer it over any of my Narcisos but it’s still a scent that a good Bath and Body Works spray can get you if you sprayed them throughout the day. I like this perfume I just would rather had $165 worth of BBW best than one 50ml 🤷♀️

Musc Moschus is a seductive, sensual and strong fragrance. The most prominent notes on me are vanilla and black currant, which almost makes it edible, but musk note balances it, adding some clean powderness to this kind of creamy and sweet composition. This fragrance makes me think of the original pre-reformulated Escada Magnetism (2003). It has this similar vibe with less fruitiness. The staying power is very good, projection is great.

This is very beautiful, delicate, soft, cozy. Definitely full bottle worthy. If you like clean musk scents like Initio's Musk Therapy or Phlur's Missing Person, you will like this one. It's a warm, creamy musk with berries. Berries are juicy, fresh and non-artificial. Very well blended and also lasts through the day. Could be a great signature, all year around scent. I can't wait to get my hands on a full bottle.

This is easily my favourite scent right now. This is so beautiful and comforting in this Australian winter. I’m not sure how this would go in summer. I think if you like the style of kayali musk, you’ll like this (they are not the same!). I get compliments every time I wear this and the girlies at work want me to stand near them so they can smell me lol. Gorgeous! 👌

This opens with a sparkling blast of bergamot that quickly settles into a luscious, juicy blackcurrant—both tangy and sweet—that weaves its way through the entire scent. The Iris is subtle and powdery and the sandalwood adds a creamy, woody warmth. The musk is soft and clean and the vanilla here is comforting without ever tipping into cloying territory.

Gorgeous scent. I do agree it is very dependent on the skin chemistry to the point where it’s a make or break situation. On me fortunately this is not too sweet and I do smell the woody powdery base quite a lot which makes this a sexy fragrance and not a basic vanilla. It smells like a classy woman to me but also comforting. Signature scent worthy.

Fruity cotton candy, it's wonderful but quite a delicate scent in that it smells pure and fluffy and any interaction with something stinky or dirty (i.e., sweat, worn clothing, polluted city air) fouls the fragrance. I'd only wear it straight out the shower with clean clothes in a clean and tidy room with fresh sheets and a swept/vacuumed floor.

It’s nothing like La Cautiva; in that one, the cassis reads more tart, leafy, and slightly sharp, which gives it a subtle green edge, whereas in Musc Moschus the blackcurrant is wrapped in soft white musk, sandalwood, and vanilla so the fruit feels creamy and fluffy instead—but, layered together, the contrast is magic.
