Shah'ryar

I don’t know how to begin, this fragrance is a journey with each phase more enjoyable than the last. Initial spray hits you with a blast of dark, sweet fruit. Like that plum that is on too high of a branch to reach so it gets sweeter and more flavorful than all the others. Joined by that sweaty bergamot citrus, and an accent of hay and light woods (it sounds weird but trust me) this initial phase blends together beautifully and starts to transform as that skanky, real oud starts to push past everyone else in line, caramel, vanilla, and florals all in tow. The caramel deeply saturating those woodsy notes, and the vanilla and florals dancing around that gorgeous oud, when people say this is similar to Nasomatto Pardon they really mean it. The powdery sweetness oud combination of pardon and shah’ryar feels near identical but put on different bases, out of the 2 I overall prefer shah’ryar. It’s a dark fruity pardon that smells higher quality and to me, much more intriguing. Performance, projection and sillage are equally massive between the two. Main point for people who love that Pardon DNA getting tempted by this fragrance: absolutely pull the trigger on a sample, or be a man and just buy a whole bottle. You know you’re gonna like it.

Shah’Ryar RANIA j The name and the juice play tricks. Visually, it looks greenery yet smells earthy . But they will sing together. Shahryar is a symphony of light and dark, parch and succulent, chewy and tender, ambrosial floral & aromatic spices, tied together with precious woods that are sweetened with caramel honeycomb. The scent evokes imagery of star gazing under the Sahara desert, tasting konafa, reminiscent of how abysmal we mortals are and what else is out there... Then the green hay, vetiver oakmoss notes appear, where the scent takes me to some Nordic meadow... A fresh, fruity vibe emerges, followed by the chewy, sappy vanilla.. caramel vanilla dusted with cedar bites. ... A lighter, crisp, delectable oud that is also earthy with plenty of greenery palate makes Shah’Ryar an all-year-round scent fit for an occasions. When I tried this on, I couldn't stop smelling my wrist from the first spray to it's last lingering elements. The way this perfume plays out is fascinating - I don't know how to describe the opening other than a bold chorus of vegetal and fruity notes which, over time, begins to soften into a wonderful honeyed, crisp, slightly fruity and amber grazed wood. I don't get any upfront caramel, and the fruits aren't overly cloying - I think the hay helps bring things together. But it's freshly cut hay, so a bit green, which keeps this from going too sweet. Equally savory and sweet, this is an unusual one - I'm smitten.

this is really, really fucking good. it’s my first taste of Rania J’s perfumery, and i ordered a valve of it after seeing the notes, which peaked my curiousity. the plum is omnipresent, and along with the caramel/florals is so gorgeous and unique. after a while, the hay/oud/beeswax sets in along with a gorgeous vanilla. this is the only frag i might need to gatekeep in public. it's intoxicating and regal and the best... ordered a full bottle P.S. this fragrance uses real cambodian oud :)

This is a once in a lifetime fragrance. Jewel toned, peridot green juice in a hefty, glass-stone bottle. So humbly striking, like a beautiful person who doesn’t know it. It’s a joy to roll around in your hand and simply hypnotizing when it catches the light. The first spray will haunt you. The scent is so dark, so sweet, so grounding. It silently calls you to pay attention. It keeps you in a place you feel has never belonged to anyone else, and when it fades, beckons you to remember.

This perfume changed my life. This is what I hope heaven smells like! The Oud is fantastic and the Hay makes it just perfect. I have the first batch and the newer batch both are amazing! Every time I smell this fragrance when I’m wearing it my whole mind and body is consumed and I have to just do nothing for a moment but enjoy this beautiful smell. This is in my top 3 if not being my 1 favorite fragrance of all time.

Wow! What a lovely creation. I spritzed my wrist in store 8+ hours ago, and can still enjoy it. What a striking color too. Particularly enamored with the hay absolute. This perfume is like a painting. Sunny, impressionist, romantic, rural. (Original formula)

Juicy ripe plum on my skin, subtly highlited with bergamot, transforming into caramel with massive luxurious woods and staying like this till the end. Very rich and warming. Stays for 5-6 hours

It is so rich that I don't find the right words to describe it. Cannot believe that such a beautifully blended scent can be put together....LOOOVE IT!!!!!

This is a really complex and strong fragrance! Mostly smells like Ambre Loup with more things added to it IMO, if you're familiar with Rania's other work. Ambery, woody, smoky, waxy, aromatic, dry, sweet, dark fruity, oudy, piercing. I also get hints of Rania's other fragrances here, like the aromatic bitterness of Lavande 44. Smells very much like a part of her collection. An interesting detail is that there's a LOT of Norlimbanol here. Norlimbanol is a mega-strong dry-woody superamber molecule. It can easily overpower fragrances and become obvious to my nose. Here I don't pick it up at all, before I've washed the spraying spot. After washing I can literally smell Norlimbanol on my skin for two days. That's never happened before, and makes the molecule not sticking out at such a massive dose very impressive. Skilled perfumery is making things that could feel fake and slapped-on work cohesively. Rania's previous work doesn't noticeably use Norlimbanol. Musc Moschus is my all-time favorite fragrance out of +300, so Rania really can make a perfume that I love. This one just isn't for my personal taste. I do appreciate the artistry that goes into making a finished-smelling perfume this complex and strong! The scent comes across very natural and evolves from beginning to end. As opposed to modern designers being all about the opening and vanishing afterwards, here the mid-notes only mark the party getting started. Just as it's always been in classical perfumery. If intense amber-oud-waxy-sweet-dry-dark-fruity-aromatic perfumes are your thing, definitely grab a sample.

I purchased Shah-ryar and several 5ml decants of various smoky incensed plum perfumes. I smelled Shah'ryar before I unpeeled all the inner packaging away from the decants. Yes, it's that strong. Shah'ryar opens with an extremely prominent spicy, smoky note (osmanthus) and hyper-sweetened caramel. This sweet, smoky and spicy accord is an odd beginning to my nose. Once my senses adjust, I like the opening osmanthus a lot...definitely smells like slightly floral, cracked black pepper that's been rubbed into a well-worn leather jacket. The opening is warm, almost hot. The opening actually burns my nose and throat a wee-bit. The perfume quickly morphs into a unique, unisex fragrance. Adjectives that come to mind: heavy, viscous, dark, resinous, waxy, VERY spicy, VERY sweet, smoky, super-honeyed, dried fruit, dark plums. The base holds lots 'n lots of dried fruit, honey, dusty vetiver and hay. There's a strong woodiness and a bit of gentle oud evident in the dry-down as well. I also detect some patchouli. The fragrance reminds me of a super-elevated attar, or a resinous perfume oil. I can truly appreciate the perfume for what it is. I might like this on a person under 25 yrs of age. But I'm old, so for me it's an easy pass.

This is made with real Oud, and it really elevates the entire experience of this fragrance. It's a dirty, animalic, leathery, natural, earthy, slightly sweet, intoxicating, somehow mouth-watering fragrance that's super complex. It reminds me of what I imagine the "natural" version of Side Effect by Initio would smell like. It's smokey, leathery, almost feral... like it does something to your brain in an aphrodisiac kind of way. Yet it somehow also stinks in a repulsive way. So weird. Never smelled anything like it. I didn't expect to love this as much as I do. 10/10

Just insanely good. A heady mix of sweet-sour plum, animalics, sharp honeycomb and dusty herbs. Smells like an Ionian sunset, or maybe the funky, ancient, masculine smell of Odysseus fighting the bloody armies of Ajax. A perfume that recalls love and revenge and passion. Utterly gorgeous and complex. Will be buying a full bottle.

Stylistically more synthetic than her "vintage" Ambre Loup days, but still well crafted & balanced; the oud is surprisingly tame (and Western) compared to her former unapologetic style, and after the fruitiness wears off, it gives off a slight Pardon vibe—a very muted musky chocolate/patchouli woody scent.

Smells somewhat like a weaker memoir man mixed with interlude and with some oud hiding in the background like Hulk from endgame. Performance is weaker than average for an extrait. Doesn't do well in hot weather either. If Interlude man is too pungent for you try this instead

Probably my favorite fruity oud atm. Most offerings I've tried was too sweet for me, Oud Maracuja, Rouge Chaotique etc. The drydown reminds me of Cartier Amber & Oud 🤔

A little disappointed with this perfume. I agree with @santeripe there is a lot of something woody aromachemical like Norlimbanol in the drydown. Shah'ryar opens with a caramel, amber like sweetness and a hint of hindi style oud (sulphuric dirty). The mid of the fragrance is my favorite when the oud fades a bit, and the scent turns dry, powdery and even sweeter perhaps from the labdanum. Lastly as the mid fades a scratchy wood aroma chemical takes over and this is when I am tempted to wash the arm of it. I really enjoyed my previous sample of Ambre Loup and then saw the Pardon reference here so I waited to first try this one before buying a bottle. Digging deeper, I see reviews describing Ambre Loup reformulated to a higher amount of aroma chemicals and I am nervous to buy a bottle. I am just really disappointed. +++ Edit +++ Worse than I thought. The norlimbanol wouldn't go away, had to take a shower, and wash my clothes thoroughly. Just so scratchy and head ache inducing. WHY.

Cloves hay honey sweet... Bitter spicy sweet blend of cloves, hay, woods, then comes beeswax, plums, & caramel. I don't know if i can detect any oud but i do detect spices on a place of sweetness. Vetiver, sandalwood, cedar, & oakmoss. After all, the sweet is fighting spiciness in here & i believe it drives the whole blend to a bittersweet blend. Fair.

This fragrance is better than Pardon..in fact I don't get the comparison..the bergamot caramel oud and musk and spiciness are perfect especially for fall and winter. Its a compliment monster and opulent at the same time..im actually mad at yall know about it. Lol MASTERPIECE..need I say more

So many nice notes and I don't get to enjoy them. I get a start of sweet fruity resins for about one second, then teh spiky woods come in and ruin it all. Very strong wood-alcohol scream just wipes out any other notes. And it won't scrub off. I wonder if sandpaper would help.

Ok. Lol. This smells exactly like Slow World by Chasing Scents which is my signature scent on my profile. Of course everybody fell in love. It’s about 4 minutes old on my wrist let’s see if it’ll mature into a different experience. Edit: Slow World with more leather.
