Brilliant Silver

Brilliant Silver — Rasasi There's a particular kind of familiarity that only comes from something initially putting you off. The scent is apparently built of of more typical legacy oils than Ganymede. Ganymede has akiagalawood. Some sort of patchouli fraction that's exceedingly clean and vibrant. As well as immortelle. A flower that apparently can range the gamut from dry hay to curry powder or even honey. Brilliant Silver has neither of these. But this is quite unlike anything in my collection. Surely its plenty close to the inspiration. The mandarin up top is neon sweet, technically speaking — but the sugar is so restrained you can barely perceive it, even in the opening moments. What you notice instead is the violet and saffron creating a hissy petroleum accord that very much reminds me of vintage Fahrenheit by Dior. Sharp, notes softly clashing, odd and surely unfinished — an iodine, inky quality that evokes, more than anything, the chemical smell of magazine pages. It doesn't seem like a fragrance so much as an accident. It doesn't seem like something meant to be worn. And then it is. Once the opening burns off, what's left is airy, ethereal, wide open — and it lingers for a long time. I actually don't go noseblind to this stuff and thats always a plus. Heat seems to enhance it rather than diminish it; it holds up reasonably well against sweat, and settles into something that stops feeling like a fragrance sitting on your skin and starts feeling like a new, strange skin of its own. Close in, it's hard to separate the scent from the wearer — the closest comparison I can offer is what Mr. Data seems he should smell like. Full of warm wires, convincingly alive, but built from something else entirely underneath. It's never loud and it doesn't have much to talk about up close. But in open air its got gravitas and its got guts and I like this stuff. Mind you this is day 2 of owning. Maturation might be even better yet. You could really build on top of this stuff too, it being so spartan. Number of things would pair well with it. If you never tried this Ganymede thing I'd recommend you be someone that appreciates everything before the one that will appreciate something. At least find a sample somehow. Maybe if you were big on Fahrenheit and/or sniffing magazing/booklet pages, I could recommend blind buy. It's sort of amusing how it expresses itself in the opening. It's a bit like the odor of leather car seats cleaned with a citrus cleaner only to be buried in several coats of Armor-ALL type protectant. Thankfully, that goes away after awhile. And if you want interesting; this is that. Maybe one day I can try actual Ganymede.

I've had this fragrance for close to a year now, so it's had the chance to mature. That last part is important because when I first got it, it didn't perform that well. After a few months though, the longevity was much better. Got about 4-5 hours at first. Now, I easily get a full work day (10 hours) on skin. I haven't smelled Ganymede, so I can only judge this on it's own merit. This is a very smooth fragrance, though different from the norm with that metallic edge. The leather note in here is more on the suede side of things. Now, this isn't so heavy that it's only a winter fragrance. I've been able to wear this in the spring and fall no problem...I have other stuff for the summer though. It's a great fragrance nonetheless. The smell is very good and different from the usual. I also have Celestial from Paris Corner, which is also a cover of Ganymede, but that fragrance is noticeably heavier...only for winter and cold fall. Celestial does get cloying much easier and to my nose, doesn't smell as good as the Rasasi rendition.

I've never tried Ganymede so I can't compare it to Brilliant Silver. I will say I was worried when I first sprayed this, because it has a sour note that lasted at least 10-20min. I was like oh no I hope this goes away. I'm not totally sure what that is, but it did go away. It also goes away faster now that I'm used to it. So this smells metallic, mineralic, slightly animalic, a bit leathery, earthy, woody, and some florals(saffron and violet). It comes across very fresh in a strange way. It is a very unique scent profile that's for sure, but also a bit familiar. It has good longevity, and average projection not sure about the sillage. This is really good, and I find myself addicted to it. It really is unique, and nice. I would describe it a couple different ways. I could say it's like a 2000's woody freshie got watered down with strong mineral water, and some dirt or something. My favorite way to describe it is it's like Azzaro Chrome grew up, and went through some stuff, and became this.

This is very similar to Ganymede but not 100% the same. I would say Brilliant Silver is less complex and less natural-smelling. I also find it to be a tad sweeter, with what seems to be a nice blackcurrant note contributing to the sweetness, though it isn’t listed. Another noticeable difference is that the leather is less obvious—the base leans more woody than leathery. Additionally, the projection and sillage are noticeably toned down compared to Ganymede. Overall, for the price, it might scratch that itch, especially if you like Ganymede but don’t love it enough to spend significantly more for the real thing. This also seems like a more summer-appropriate alternative to Ganymede itself, as Ganymede can become monstrous in projection and somewhat suffocating on a warm day. Brilliant Silver, on the other hand, smells great on a sunny, warm day. Just to add, this is a fragrance that definitely benefits from several months of maturation to reach its full potential. After owning it for six months, I’ve noticed it has improved significantly over time, becoming smoother and less harshly synthetic compared to when I first sprayed it from my brand-new bottle. Overall score: 7.8 / 10, for its price range (£29–£39—don’t pay more), it offers a unique niche profile made more accessible for those who can’t afford or justify the cost of Ganymede. Or, if you’re like me, you might simply prefer a toned-down version of that distinctive scent profile.

Got this as free decant. This is another try for Bois Imperial or Ganymede. To my nose this is similar to Maison Asrar Imperial which is also an attempt to the 2 OG. The akigalawood is prominent here.
