At Night We Dance

My first foray into a natural parfum and this one doesn't disappoint. The initial opening isn't my favorite as it leans to the more feminine side but I really love the dry down thats full of amber with hints of sandalwood and incense. It packs a punch for a natural fragrance and has an excellent price point.

Baby powder, sweet amber, white musk (The Body Shop type), woods and fresh pine sap with a dusting of cinnamon. Hints of Lavender, sweet blood orange, the inside of a leather purse and face powder. Chanel No. 5 with the bitchy raw leather smothered in baby powder. Dries down to a skin scent level of soft spiced powdery amber woods around 2 hours. Don't buy looking for actual Catholic Church incense with wood resins and plant herbs. That's expensive stuff and they only bring it out for special ceremonies at larger churches. Most people have never smelt it, but what they have experienced is mass produced comfort food. Vanilla chai latte. Cinnamon Powdered Sugar sprinkles on a Starbucks cappuccino coffee. Cinnamon dusted Danish pastry. A slice of spiced pumpkin pie. That's the kind of spice I get here. Warm, pleasant, balanced and reliable fragrance you'd enjoy smelling on a colleague or family member to remind you of the comforts of a well kept home and solid straight up people you love. Polished wood, vanilla cinnamon cookies, fresh cup of tea, petting your Labrador dog, chatting with loved ones on a late summer early autumn kind of feel. During the 80s this was a regular cologne style for the average easy going likeable guy. A slightly sweeter version with more powder less amber was sold for females. Often given as a gift that other people liked, to the people they most love and respect in the world. Father, husband, son, sister, your favourite great Aunt - all had at least one. Avon Black Suede, Vanilla Soft Musk were popular examples. Cool Charm Baby Powder roll on deodorant was everywhere for those that didn't do perfume.

The opening of this is beautiful - prominent violet blended with herbaceous and fruity notes. Mysterious, enchanting, a bit “witchy”. As it dries down it gets slightly less interesting. I really like the amber/incense notes but wish they were amped up a bit more. Nonetheless a nice and unique fragrance.

I absolutely love the opening, spicy musk with a touch of florals, I do agree that the dry down is quite a simplistic slightly musky vanilla. It's lovely but unfortunately I found the performance pretty lacking.

the top notes are really nice! but sad of course that they're around only for the opening. i could smell incense but it wasn't smoky, just the typical incense smell. sweet, pretty light, almost like vanilla somewhere there. on me it became a bit sickly sweet and i didn't really care for the incense note

Amber, spice, incense, and vanilla. Not bad, just not for me.

MISLEADING-NOT NATURAL. I was excited to support a natural perfume brand and ordered the discovery set. They generally smell like what you'd expect from any commercial perfume brand and they're not bad. However, all the marketing gear the consumer up for some absolutely gorgeous natural botanical fragrances, and what a serious let down it was when I could smell copious amounts of synthetic materials. I'm not against synthetics (if biodegradable ones), these fragrances are just not like the way the marketing suggests! The ingredient lists all the botanical names of plants supposedly in the fragrance, which would make you think the whole thing is natural. Unfortunately this is simply NOT TRUE. Most consumers just wouldn't have any idea what a genuinely natural perfume smells like and can only go by the marketing/ ingredient list from the brand. Unfortunately for the trained nose, it is quite obvious that these are not natural fragrances, they may have some naturals in there but the majority of these formulas are made up by a back bone structure of synthetics. The fragrance price of these also does not reflect a genuine natural fragrance, the price of such precious naturals is astronomical! Furthermore, some of the naturals stated in the other fragrances, such as gardenia are actually impossible to obtain at a commercial level. Genuine vanilla is an incredibly expensive material to work with in natural perfumery and is almost always substituted with vanillin which can be natural so I would suspect this has been used and not Tahitian vanilla tincture or absolute- that's only a guess but highly likely. My pet-hate is lack of transparency, why avoid misleading customers by listing only the botanical names in the ingredient list. Where it says blend of 'nature-identicals' this is a whole heap of synthetics! Honesty is my policy and it's obvious that this brand does not match that same ethos. This brand ruins it for truly natural brands out there trying to do good things.

I have the travel size and i am very pleased with it so far. It's giving me 80s vibes to be honest with a very "TA DA" type feel. I could totally see a socialite or old Hollywood star wearing this in just about every bygone era pre 1980s. It is complex and if i had to compare it to anything commercial i can recall its a cross between Estee Lauder Cinnabar and Youth Dew and CK Obsession!. I can see this as a night out fragrance for sure!

Opening is a bit much for me. I prefer the dry down. There is a bourbon whisky kind of note that is quite pervasive throughout the collection which can be smelt in Call me Venus and Lost in Dusk as well which I’m not sure I’m vibing with. This one fits together with Stardust which I also quite like with its warm fuzzy milky sandalwood. Much of the collection utilises similar accords. I find myself a little underwhelmed overall?

At Night We Dance smells like an older and more sophisticated hippie perfume. A very relaxed boho scent which has a reasonable amount of longevity and strength. If Im going to the shops and want to relax, this is generally the scent that I will reach for.
