Châtelain 22

Chatelain 22 is one of the finest tonka-forward fragrances I have ever encountered (my benchmark is Guerlain's tonka fragrances). If you're searching for a luxurious interpretation of tonka and almond, this deserves a place at the top of your list. What makes it exceptional is not a single standout note, but the flawless blending. The tonka, almond, vanilla, woods, and subtle resins melt into one seamless composition, creating a fragrance that feels rich, creamy, and incredibly refined. It's the kind of scent where you stop trying to identify individual notes and simply enjoy the intoxicating aura they create together. The result is elegant rather than gourmand and while there is a soft almond sweetness, it never ventures into marzipan or dessert territory. Instead, it feels velvety, sophisticated, and undeniably luxurious. It reminded me of three fragrances, as rightly mentioned by the reviewer below me, each sharing a piece of its character. It has the creamy woody warmth of Bois Doré, the elegant vanilla DNA of Black Tie, and the resinous tonka richness of Myrrh & Tonka. Yet Chatelain 22 isn't a clone of any of them. It takes familiar ideas and refines them into something smoother, creamier, and more cohesive, resulting in an intoxicating scent that is impossible to stop smelling. For anyone who appreciates refined tonka fragrances, Chatelain 22 lives up to both its high praise and premium price tag.

To my nose, there's a very clear relation between Black Tie and Châtelain 22. These two are sisters, not twins. Both scents are a powdery, orris-y vanillas with major earthy facets and a bit of spice. Châtelain opens with warm, strong aromatics that lend a borderline-medicinal edge to it and this is where the two scents diverge most. As it dries down, it starts to resemble Black Tie a little more closely, but remains a bit more sweet, warm, and aromatic throughout the wear. It's a bit more nuanced and deep than Black Tie, but feels more appropriate for cooler weather as a result. Black Tie is easier to wear in the summer. These both have a place in my collection since I love this profile, but I do think many will find these two redundant. Châtelain does have better longevity as well.

I’m not sure why nobody in these reviews or in the Facebook groups mentioned that this smells like a niche version of Prada Luna Rossa Black, a less vanillic Van Cleef Bois Doré and Jo Malone Myrrh & Tonka minus the lavender overdose. I get that more than anything else, even more than Celine Black Tie which was a fantastic scent but didn’t last so I sold it. I’m really hoping this one has good longevity. I just got it so I’ll be testing it when it cools down at night. It’s a pure tonka almond scent on my skin & so far it smells amazing. I love it!

Beautifully blended aromatic tonka. It feels nice and modern and not too powdery or dated. It is sweet, and the musk gives some nice lift to what would otherwise be heavy/dense notes (Tobacco, sage, and hay). I get the references for Prada Cargo de Nuit and Celine Zouzou with the sweet, light, and vanillic Tonka accord. That said, Black Tie wouldn’t have crossed my mind here so don't come expecting an alternative to it with Chatelain 22. Super safe blind buy if you're a fan of the aforementioned two.

Absolutely beautiful! This definitely reminds me of Celine's Black Tie. It is in the same family for sure. Châtelain 22 by Regalien has more presence and projection, I would also say it is a little more feminine leaning! I received many compliments when I wore this!

A very nice interpretation of tonka as a raw material. Hay is also adding depth and some earthy vibes. Silky smooth, long lasting but not overpowering, quite balanced sweetness acts as a second skin. Completely unisex.

Mmm, very tonka heavy. Reminds me of dorsay tonka hysteria, but with a more masculine twist. 10/10

This perfume is seriously captivating, elegant, and perfect for making a statement! It smells expensive in the most effortless way. I can wear it in almost any temperature (maybe not extreme heat, (100* degrees, not!). It gives me a subtle Black Tie vibe, but here the focus leans more into an aromatic vanilla and tonka. The tonka clearly takes the lead, silky and smooth, while hints of hay add a soft, slightly earthy depth. There’s also a gentle spice and a touch of tobacco that bring a quiet, sensual touch, keeping it from ever feeling overly sweet. What I love the most is the balance. It’s not too sweet, not too strong, and doesn’t lean too feminine or masculine. Chatelain 22 is Long-lasting, but never overwhelming. To me, it sits somewhere between the powdery, ambery softness of Black Tie and the creamy, almondy nuance of Tonka Extraordinaire, yet it still feels completely its own. It’s comforting, refined, and quietly luxurious, very easy to reach, also. Another comparison: Cargo de Nuit smells like the steam of a freshly ironed white shirt on my skin, very cool, airy, and clean, and it doesn't resemble Chatelain 22 at all. I’ve seen some people mention a rubbery note, but I don’t get that at all (good for me). For me, Chatelain 22 is smooth, sensual, and beautifully composed. 7.8/10

This smells like a gentle version of Day Three "Aylan" combined with a soft version of Dries Van Noten "Chamomile Satin" and they had a baby. Sniffing from a gifted sample from a friend. This is so absolutely beautiful! Update: I went from owning a sample to a FB purchased on MaxAroma. This is simply amazing. Gorgeous. Beautiful. Signature scent worthy. Can be worn in any temps. It's so warm and cozy yet fresh. It does not give black tie vibes to me. But it's a very aromatic vanilla and tonka.

This is a wonderful Iris vanilla perfume. The vanilla is rich and syrup like. I used about 30 sprays and it lasts and project s well. This is like Black Tie, but if it were louder,richer and more vanilla, almond, musk and iris. I have a back up bottle. I love it, but not on a super hot day.

This is beautiful. It doesn’t particularly smell like Black Tie or Santal De Paris as some say so it’s not redundant to have all three 😍. Update : I ended up decluttering this. Something about one of the notes reminded me of windex and I couldn’t take it so I got rid of it.

This smells like rubber. It does not smell like Black Tie, ZouZou or Cargo de Nuit, all of which are beautiful and in my top 10 best fragrances.

Looking for a bottle in US! Have heard this is similar to black tie.
