Batsheva

I admit that I am a fan of Regime des Fleurs. Their perfumes that I have had the privilege to test are not necessarily groundbreaking in terms of profile, but are always comprised around something unusual, in an almost amateur fashion. Sometimes this approach really misses the mark (to me, specifically, with Cacti - another RDF tea-forward scent that I detest), and sometimes they stumble upon something genius. Batsheva is what I would classify as one of their greatest triumphs. A truly elemental blend. The only way I can describe it visually is a smoking spectre floating over a cool, tranquil pond. I find the cade oil here to be smoked and wearable, the tea leaves watery and impressionistic, the water lily strong and earnest. It suits transitional seasons, events of portence, time spent in uncanny spaces, a fortune teller's abode, religious worship. A masterpiece in my eyes. Exactly what I would wish to smell like. To speak to the negatives, Batsheva is expensive, has low projection, and is unfortunately limited production. If you are a fan of Batsheva the brand, I can't imagine how "elevated" Soho-ready prairie wear would suit such a darksided, damp scent. I forgive projection woes, but I'd be careful investing without loving this scent - taking into consideration the price and its limited edition status. I, personally, will buy a bottle, as it is a rare occasion that a scent captures my attention and fascinates me so fully. I'm never one to turn down a wearable cade oil scent!

Got a nice spray sample of this from Ministry of Scent and I’m very pleasantly mystified by it. The previous review is spot on and the scent is so nuanced that it seems to be revealing different aspects of itself to me over the past few days. Previously the lily was predominant, but today it’s the cade oil. Still I find myself coming back to it for more. It’s somehow both comforting and commanding of my attention. I’m surprised by own attraction to a scent with such a predominant lily note. This feminine quality makes it even more alluring to wear to me—so much more original and appealing to wear than just smelling like a hairless 6 pack in some Marly-type masculine flanker. It also feels luxurious without smelling like that generic expensive byerdo aromachemical vibe I can’t describe but I think we all know well. Purchased a full bottle and excited for it to arrive.

This fragrance took me by surprise. It’s clean and soapy but dirty and smoky. It’s full of contradictions. I’m not sure I like it but I can’t stop thinking about it. Luckily, I welcome such odd obsessions when it comes to scent. Update 11/23 — I wound up getting a full bottle and am in serious love. I’ve tried nearly all the scents from this brand and this is easily my favorite — and the most sophisticated imho.

My immediate thought upon spraying this was "I've smelled this before." Not that it isn't lovely - the cade oil really sings, and softened by the water lily it gives the fragrance nice depth and texture. The description says smoky and wet which I get. But I did not have the same experience as others that this is special. Going to keep thinking about where I've smelled it - it has a feel like L'Artisan or Olfactive Studio, very smooth with no harsh edges. But for me lacking something unexpected or different to splurge $250.

I sprayed this and immediately knew I had smelled something similar -- I just figured it out -- it smells like the drydown of Fragrance 02 by dedcool -- juniper, patchouli and floral notes. YES. It's sweet but earthy and very patchouli heavy. I like it.

Primarily water lily, but with some hidden dark personalities--like the Faces of Eve.

Batsheva from Regime des Fleurs smells of a subtly smoky blackberry and violet incense, something you might burn to summon either spectral shades from the underworld or second-ranking seraphim. It’s a strange, amorphous mixture of the undefined: it’s neither sweet nor dry, aquatic nor earthy, fruity-resinous nor herbal fresh, edgy leather metal lord nor cottagecore sweetheart–and yet it somehow sits at the intersection of all of these things. I love Bathsheva's early collections with their frills and ruffles and ditzy, saccharine prints, and this scent is a through the looking glass version of that twee weirdness, a dark, twisted fantasy that never quite made it from La La Land to the nightmare side. "Liminal" is a word that gets thrown around a lot these days, but this fragrance really does feel betwixt and between, grounded and ethereal-- a space of utter unbelonging.

To me this does not smell like RDF’s creations. Batsheva smells like something Byredo would release. In fact it resembles 1996 a lot to my nose. It’s heavy with patchouli, and it’s surprisingly very syrupy sweet. Probably because they’re both violet and patchouli dominant.

I would love to read some reviews on this if anyone has. It's a pretty expensive blind buy and hard to find to sample. I love the note composition but as we know we can not always depend on that info
