Oud Dukhan

Yes, extremely refined. And underrated, but happy to keep it for myself. Ordered a few spray samples online from Ministry of Scent (ships in the US) and this one was a slow, magnificent burn. Interestingly, a female friend with very opposite taste from mine found it "so sexy." I personally reject the idea that some scents have mythical sex appeal over the entire opposite sex (:eyeroll:), but this was a surprising moment where we both agreed that Al-Dukhan is effing gorgeous. This scent feels classically masculine though none of the notes suggest a fresh, fougere-y or otherwise classic style fragrance. Somehow though, that's entirely the profile of this scent on the initial blast. I actually don't enjoy it much until about 45 minutes in, where Al-Dukhan lands in an exceptionally elegant drydown. Smoky and resinous, yet somehow still light – a perplexing balance of deep and fresh that has Ropion's fingerprints all over it. In fact, it's so well-blended I hardly have the nose to share distinct notes I'm getting. The mystery only adds to Al-Dukhan's beauty, a ultra-refined new addition to the fragrance wardrobe

I love this so much. It took me (a woman) a while to realize it leaned masculine (even though looking at the notes it’s like, duh) because it’s so light and weightless. Who knew oud could be so airy? I do wish it lasted longer, but I have a feeling that to do so you’d have to ruin the very qualities I love about Al-Dukhan. I see the similarities to Oud Wood, but Al-Dukhan is more spicy, less woody, more fleeting, and more interesting

This is SEXY. Immediately smelled it and was like yeah, I need to get a bottle of this for my BF -- not that it's not something I couldn't/wouldn't wear too, but it has a masc feel to it. I wish I was more well-versed in designer colognes bc I know this smells like something I've smelled before but a more elevated version -- maybe Chanel Allure Homme Sport?

Brutalist and stoic. A cold, mid-winter morning when the world is set in low-contrast hues yet you are obliged to drag your weary soul out of bed and face the world. Tendrils of wood smoke lifting from cold, brick chimneys set against a marbled, slate-grey sky. Spicy and powerful, yet restrained. Unisex, but for the confident among us.

I don't get it. It smells like a nail salon, down to the headache if I breath too much in at a time. Even then, I find myself addicted to it. Personally, I think you'd need a leather jacket and brooding personality for it to be your signature scent, but its one of my favorite "guilty pleasure" fragrances.

One of my favorites in my collection. Easy wear. This is nothing like Oud Wood as some suggested. Very unique, airy, spicy yet bold. Agreeing with francesrss, this leans a bit masculine but perfectly wearable by anyone.

This stuff is incredible. Very strong similarity to TF Oud Wood but almost better in a way. On my skin it projects fairly well and is light and airy. More cleaned up version of oud wood I think. Worth a sniff

Really nice. Spicy and oudy, but also somehow fresh and clean. I sometimes struggle with oud, but I like this a lot. To me, this is flexible enough for any season, day or night, going out or going to the office (just don't over spray). A standout from the RdF line.

Dense like a shag carpet. Strong and masculine, rich at the start and as the hours pass, that oud and resin do start to burn. Would love to smell this on someone else.

Slightly astringent opening, after which this one dries down into a masculine-leaning skin scent (jhag not a perfume for the boys!). Very peppery ambergris warms up nicely alongside oud. Nothing overwhelming here whatsoever: a fragrance that's warm, nice, airy, a little waxy (just not what I'm looking for personally; if I'm going for this profile, I'd wear tsu lange yor's luca, which is very similar but slightly brighter) Update: successfully gifted my 2ml to my brother!

I see that some people say it reminds them of OG Old Spice and it really kind of does. It smells like that but maybe with a really sharp hit of a pine at the forefront despite pine not being a note. I like it. It’s too masculine of a scent for me to personally wear.

Really heavy and masculine on the first spray—my boyfriend said it smelled like Usher cologne, lol—but it dried down lighter, with a nice warmth from the oud.

More masculine for my taste. I don't love cologne scents and I rarely sample them so tbh this just smells like any other cologne to me.

A very timid and light version of TF Oud Wood. Relatively weak projection and sillage. Not really worth it.

More feminine, powdery, and aldehyde-forward than I expected. Musky but certainly not "butch."

One of the only ones in the collection that really plays with a code categorized as "masculine". Pretty beefy, aftershave, a resinous-woody-sexy-envy. In two words, I wouldn't trust a man to wear this scent. But this is the Ropion we know for YSL, for Issey, and for Kenzo. In all its glory - and without taking risks. Just in a different bottle, and for a brand that gives a little more niche image. It's a safe bet that it will be a top seller the day they start selling at Sephora (I can already hear the salespeople trying to sell it to you with a rote script). It's sure to please (but not me - it gives me a headache).

so reminiscent of kayali's vanilla sugared patchouli. not a fan of such loud, arrogant scents that almost feel like they violate you? has this waspish sting. kind of evokes the image of oscar wilde's salomé

Sultry, haughty. Sheer incense smoke curling over viscous, black liquorice-y oud. I imagine this best on silver foxes, or supervillainesses. Someone you might appreciate from afar, but be too afraid to approach. I do love a good cold spice; Aesop’s Marrakesh is my favourite “concrete cardamom,” but this is far deeper and darker with that chewy oud. I think it’s a well-done scent, but I’m definitely not an Al-Dukhan gal. Mental Snapshot: The boss you’re deathly afraid of, but also secretly attracted to. This is a very nice fragrance, even it's not my style. A lot of reviews compare this to Tom Ford's Oud Wood. I don't know that one, but this is indeed a mass-appealing, suave, clean, soft oud-y, woody, smoky incense fragrance. Most notably, there is a VERY good ambergris note here. It has that wonderful shimmering, champagne, marine, ozonic feeling. The more I sniff it, the more I like it. It's an addictive note! It's simultaneously base note heavy but also transparent and airy. Projection is great. Very, VERY nice.

Seconding the oud + nail salon notion. The oud is lovely but it’s overpowered by astringent aldehydes so it just comes across as headachey and cheap. I purchased the complete RF sample atomizer set so this isn’t a random dabber coming from a third party either. Saw a comment mention the fragrance has been recently renamed and reformulated, so maybe that explains the polarizing reviews. Am by no means a TF stan or shill but I’d gravitate towards Oud Wood over this.

"Burning Oud on a slab of grey marble inside a North African Riad" Reading the notes I was expecting a heavier, more complex oud fragrance; instead, I found Al-Dukhan to be fresh, well-blended and mass appealing. A green cardamom/olibanum topnote dries down to a musky, resinous base in a twist on the classic Middle Eastern composition. Overall, one of the most refined fragrances in the collection.

My friend fell in love with this perfume when it was first released, and was really disappointed when it changed. Does anyone know why it was renamed and reformulated from Al-Dukhan to Oud Dukhan? My guess is an obvious addition of oud, but wondering what the reason behind it may have been. If anyone has an old bottle of the Al-Dukhan formulation they want to sell, please let me know!

Modern oriental. Oud-centric. Very conventionally masculine. If someone told me this was Amouage, I would believe them without hesitation. Non of these descriptions are what I usually would tend to like. I remember trying Tom Ford's Oud wood before, but it didn't really do anything for me. My impression of this is way nicer. Very nice quality. It's a good one. Just not my style.

Emerson, perhaps this reminds you of Amouage if you've smelled any of their masc line? To me, this is the classic Amouage blend of oud, black pepper, and frankincense (a la Epic Man, for example), but with a nice hit of ambergris. Lovely stuff, and in my opinion, a bit more refined than the Amouages.

A resinous sap of olibanum holding an intoxicating blend of salty/sweet Ambergris and a restrained oud together. Yes, it doesn't project.. It doesn't need to. Masculine and stoic it holds close with an unbudging essence that is ever radiating and never shouting.

A wildly unexpected take on Oud, which often leans too smoky, heavy, or spicy to me. This is, fuzzy, musky, lotiony, and cozy-woody scent that I could see worn in any season. They really did something here.
