Rock River Melody

This perfume reminds me of Fzotic's Feu Secret. They both have woody and powdery notes even though the 7 named ingredients in Feu Secret are: Orris Root,Turmeric, Birch, Pink Pepper, Himalayan Cedar,Spruce and Eucalyptus. And the 8 notes in Rock River Melody are: Ivy, Galbanum, Bergamot, Narcissus, Rose, Cedar, Amber, Patchouli, Musk Sandalwood. I don't see any coincidental notes but the mixing of green and woody with amber produces a similar effect in both fragrances. Rock River excels in a sharpness and freshness that I don't find in Feu Secret, a couple of notes that lift the powdery with an injection of woods, greens, rose and narcissus. Laughably, this is described as a male fragrance but surely they are joking. This is as gender fluid as anything, and perfectly situated on the scale between stereotypical man and stereotypical woman notes. It's overall a lovely, unique and delightful composition that should retail for a hundred dollars less.

An odd love- The copybook scent of submerging yourself in the Deleware river then laying your ass down to try in the sun on top of rocks and stones. Sedimentary, metamorphic, and albeit immensely uncommon to nail, this is just that. Combine it with your summer sweat, and it's perfect. I will say, it's extremely strong and can cause a headache, one spray. It will also last on clothing items even when they're wet/elements. Which is why its a summer scent to me. It needs the elements. It's not gentle, not feminine, not masculine, it's objective. Feel's more like unlocking a memory than choosing a perfume. You will love or hate it. I love it. I only wish the potency was not as strong and could be softened, would be hard to wear indoors.

This fragrance takes me back to esthetics school at Aveda. If your familiar with the pseudo faux holistic brand, its not that impressive compared to what exists now but by god the fragrance oils they made are good. This reminds me of the beauty composition oils that were exclusive to the brand professionals. I showed this to my colleague and we instantly were transported back to intense facial practicals and crying in our lockers. Its serene, green, damp and somehow moody but cheery all at once.

my honest review is that while it smells like swimming naked in a wild river and riding home at golden hour, hair drying in the breeze, saddle old and wise, i can't help feeling that feeling about the perfume the same way about a man you're not so sure about. i will say every time i come home i want it on my wrist for the comfort it gives, but i feel like no one else smells in it what i smell, they find it too vintage and too masculine, maybe they have never felt wild.

I am not a rose person but this is a next level fragrance. It smells woodsy and green, almost a sharp vegetal green, and has one of the nicest patchouli notes I’ve smelled. It’s truly unisex, maybe a little masculine-leaning, but that’s possibly because it reminds me of Abercrombie Woods, which I haven’t smelled in probably 20 years but retains a spot in the horny teenager part of my brain.

For me, this is the most beautiful scent of Autumn: deliciously clean, thoughtful, comforting, fresh and warm at the same time, with the sun illuminating the leaf-strewn paths of the park and a slightly anxious anticipation of the approaching winter. The aroma of light sadness and the beauty of nature changing its appearance, very unusual and unique.

Too me this fragrance starts off smelling like doves extra fresh body wash but its more unique smelling then in the dry down becomes this woody and patchouli dominant scent too my nose, i really recommend this fragrance for those that like that earthy and sweetness that would work well as an any time of day scent and especially for a night out scent

This fragrance is what I wanted from a green fragrance. Although the marketing says it’s sparkling to me it really is. There’s shades of the Sofia Coppola’s hunting scenes in Marie Antoinette. It smells of the fanciest ivy in the best part of the Queens hamlet in Versailles. Even if only by fantasy. It’s clean and fresh and somehow extremely fancy.

Handsome. I was accused of rolling around with a man when I worse this to a family event. Vegetal spiciness. The warm touch of wet earth. I love powdery scents but I don't get any powder here. It's crisp. I can see how some people were reminded of aftershave but it would be a very nice aftershave.

bear medicine, it is comforting the way animals are comforting, how it feels like you were chosen to be loved. an adventure lingering in the past and future, the peace that follows eternity. bare feet climb the river. a soft freedom.

Doesn't hit as masculine as I think their intent might've been but I like the way the scent wears on me. I definitely pick up on the rose the strongest, more so than the green notes.

Stately and elegant. This is a very cool, powdery green scent that I cannot imagine anyone truly disliking. My favorite fragrance for months now.

The initial spray is alright but the dry down is to die for. Still very men’s aftershave especially for the steep price

I like this more on my skin than I did smelling the sample vial, but it's not a love. It's a bit more "spicy" than I was expecting. I think it must be the patchouli and sandalwood, somehow. If you told me that this had nutmeg or mace in it, I would have believed you. Ivy, galbanum, and green notes are in there, buried way deep at the bottom. I can't really smell them unless I bring my wrist right to my nose. I think I would have liked this better if it was more green and less powdery. I get a touch of cedar, which keeps this firmly unisex for me. I would say the predominant notes are amber, musk, and sandalwood. I don't get a real rose note, but I would believe it's a very powdery rose. I thought there was violet in this before looking at the notes. It's a powder done well, doesn't smell like baby powder or talc at all, probably because that note is mostly coming from the musk and amber combination. I'm not a powdery fragrance kind of person, but this does read quietly sophisticated to me. If you like powder, give it a shot. It's not FBW for me, but I think I will enjoy the rest of my sample. EDIT: I have been wearing this for a few hours now, and the more I do, the more I love the drydown. I'm finding the powder slowly fades, and you're left with a very nice cedar scent. It's not too masculine. It's very pleasant. 8/10.

I ordered a sampler over a year ago, but despite its resume being perfect on paper, it wasn’t a perfect fit for me. RRM is more stereotypically cologne-y than I typically like. The (what I can only assume is) ivy is the dominant note. Imagine Irish Spring soap, only minus the soap. Despite being named after a horse, there’s nothing animalic. He’s clean, green, dark, dewy. The memory of fields and forests and saddle leather, but without the dirt under the nails. A cologne for horse boys who don't like to get muddy. (Dressage boys?) Mental Snapshot: Hunter green velvet walls, polished mahogany. Billiard tables, oil paintings of champion Thoroughbreds. Investment bankers in foxhunting jackets. tl;dr: for ex-equestrians 🌿🏇

Really loved smellng RRM on my hand - it's unique and bold and a little sharp, but not too sharp. Doing a full wearing though, it's maybe just a bit too much - after a few hours, that galbanum sharpness is just irritating my sinuses a bit, and that's with only one spray from a sample sprayer (I.e., like half a spray from a full bottle atomizer). I would LOVE to smell this on someone else though, and will see if applying farther from my face next time helps to make it a bit more wearable for me personally - it's one that's better wafted than smelled consistently right under your nose.

They’re trying to deconstruct a traditionally masculine fragrance here, and I feel like they only partially succeed. There’s some note in here that’s making it lean into a traditionally masculine cologne, and I would have loved for it to be a bit more gender neutral. Conceptually, it’s great: Ivy, galbanum, sap. It’s giving me fae prince in the woods, Mr Darcy walking across the moors. I just wish it were a little bit less cologne-y

Very pretty green fragrance which opens with galbanum and ivy, eventually settles down to a patchouli-rose base with amber, sandalwood and something which produces a very fizzy, coca cola quality. Like the rest of the line, I was expecting something totally different after having read the listed notes. Very cool, very unique, but ultimately not suited to my personal taste.

This scent does resemble a men's aftershave but also reminds me of a spa. When I first smelled it, it reminded me of when I went to an onsen village in Japan. I feel like this is a unisex scent but leans more masculine. I am not sure if I would purchase it for myself but would like to smell it on my boyfriend. BUT my boyfriend and his coworker did say they hate it!

The most addicting "traditionally masculine" aromatic fragrance I've ever smelled. Warm, fresh yet classic, a hike with new leather boots, or a horseback ride, from a low dusty prairie into a pine oasis along a creek: tall lush grass, cool breeze, stones warm from the sun. Wore this for the first time a couple days ago and can't wait to spray it again

Wearing this makes me smell like I've just raided my dad's cologne cabinet, though he says it's too floral when I raise my wrist to his nose. We are evidently not on the same page. I sprayed this on my friend and it smelled the same on him as it did me. Don't get me wrong, I like it. It's fresh and clean, albeit a little generic.

I loved this when I first sprayed it—addictively fresh and woody, reminiscent of the smell of soil after rain. The cedar is delicious. However, as it dried down it got less interesting to me, just plain woody but in a more flat way. A little too masculine for me to imagine wearing, though of course Alexa Chung could pull it off.

Swimming naked in the river , dry drowning on a warm rock, coming to and smelling the aftershave of an older gentleman giving you mouth to mouth. He gives you a ride to the ER and your feet dance out the window of his car .. You slip him your number and blow a kiss as you go

this frustrates me bc this smells like something super specific, but i don't know what. i guess this just smells like outside and you can project what that means onto this. fresh, woody, green, clear. this does have a dirty vetiver drydown though,

It will be a pass for me. On opening, incredibly fresh, damp, dewy green. Smells like a walk through a damp mossy forest. However, when it dries down it smells like a basic vintage wood scent. Disappointing.

smells like an extremely rich and elegant androgynous woman. very powdery and patchouli forward. reminiscent of men’s aftershave. ultimate unisex, leaning both masculine and feminine.

smells like a super 80s medicinal green, it was actually a shock to find out that this came out in 2021, it's that signature powdery warm spicy 80's scent but green, pretty good.

It didn't start well with this one either, because the storytelling annoyed me: "A horseback ride in sparkling green Fontainebleau forest". Your perfumes will not fall into the hands of ordinary people, we get it. But I'll pass. The juice itself is not bad, even if it is not particularly my thing. It doesn't smell like a horse, but it does smell like ivy, narcissus bouquet and ferula. The forest flower. As with all the other references, it's a very light, watery, and airy juice (pretty rare with these types of notes). So it's quite nice for anyone (like me) who has trouble with all those woody green accords, and a scent that you could wear without bothering anyone around you. But not a revelation on my side.

When I first grabbed this, I was hoping for fairy forest ponds and lot of herbal greenery. I did get lots of greenery, but this leans towards a more "traditionally masculine" perfume/cologne (may be a fougere or a chypre? I need to do a little more "research" to figure out where this might fall) than I thought it would. I use the phrase for comparison only since all scents are unisex. In general, many of these types of perfumes just bring me back to candles, or a scent I love to smell but not to wear. They don't feel like me. I'll admit this is lovely and sappy syrupy with a woody base that never takes over. It really is all about that green sap.

First thoughts: opens with powder and amber, and the supposed base notes of the cedar, sandalwood, and patchouli all at once. I get the white florals and rose at the end, but in a sort of sickly sense. This scent seems preserved to me, almost a little victorian, and definitely not particularly masculine. I don't get woodsy, river, rocks, or any greenery at all. It is not for me, but I can see it as a fall or early spring fragrance for someone who like floral and amber notes that start feminine but finish more masculine. That said, I would enjoy this as a candle or a soap!

almost blind bought this fragrance but instead decided to sample first - and i am glad i did. it had a very vintage smell to me. heavy on the patchouli and the ivy. smells like you are outside, but i do not understand the comparison to tree sap or anything woody. very powdery and spicy to my nose, almost medicinal. i don’t hate it but i would not buy a full bottle. definitely for someone who likes that vintage smell. to me this is perfectly unisex. bottle is gorgeous, but the fragrance to me is lackluster without the presentation of the bottle.

What must be the galbanum renders Rock River Melody's beginning nearly, perplexingly medicinal on me. Calms down with elegant musk and clear, refreshing cedar — but nothing can keep me from being reminded of aftershave. After an hour, becomes heavily masculine. I can't catch any of the rose or patchouli (but maybe I've become desensitized these two: my most-beloved notes).

What I really wanted from this scent was the memory of walking through the woods in summer to my first river swim of the year with my friends. It doesn't take me there. It smells like many other perfectly inoffensive woody scents on the market, but it's not special in my opinion. If you want the scent memory I'm looking for Snoqualmie by Pineward is the answer.

A rugged and elevated green, with a distinct vintage aftershave feel. Very much brings to mind the colour of dark ivy. For me, perhaps a little too mossy / powdery, I have come to realise that I prefer it when greens lean fresh / crunchy.

Only smelled this as a sample so didn't get the full course on this - but something weirdly artificial in the notes? Can't quite put my finger on it but it was distracting enough to steer me away from this.

This one has a very vintage take. I didn’t particularly like it. Too strong, too herbal, green and way too powdering. The patchouli is mossy, earthy, dirty. I bought falling tree which I love and I decided to sample out all the perfumes this house has to offer but I didn’t like any of them. I can smell the quality of ingredients they use but their perfumes aren’t original or doesn’t offer uniqueness and they’re also pricy for what they offer. I’ll pass on this brand.

Something in here smells like a men’s dove body wash at first. The dry down was reminiscent of really being in the forest so my first wear test was cycling in the forest! It does well in heat and the way it smelled after an hour of cycling in the woods made it even more photorealistic forest. Wouldn’t buy a full bottle but I think my tester is pretty good albeit generic smelling. Also I get no river from this I wanted something slightly watery :( easy 6.8

Such a muted green with powdery undertones. I love narcissus and ivy but the application smells really dated and straight up boring here. Almost like a drugstore green scent from the 80s. Beautiful packaging though. Totally agree with @AndySmellsGreat.

The perfumer set out to create something masculine, and certainly he succeeded. Potent galbanum bomb to begin then calms down to more generic greenery. Nothing here to suggest a sparkling stream.

Initial opening less masculine and more unisex. 30 mins later, definitely masculine leaning (aftershave vibes). Too masculine for my preference.

Bought into the marketing hype and blind bought a bottle after a long procrastination. Unfortunately, the ‘walk through Fontainebleau’ whilst potentially applicable, the reality is the ‘green’ and ‘ivy’ whilst there nose to skin leaves a languid limp barely noticeable weak rose and narcissus covered in a slight damp green. It’s extremely underwhelming and something akin to my mums old school stuff like - maybe Magriff and such and female centric. This is a rare instance of me saying - black and white not worth the money or hype. I’m astonished at how someone has already voted this as the top in every category. So, barely unisex more female centric, weak, expensive, skewed marketing and far from challenging.

Very masculine to my nose, with a strong aftershave vibe. Energizing and zingy. Casual, too. Perfect for a spring weekend running errands. I get zero rose from this — and thank goodness for that! While this seems masculine to me, I believe this could be worn by anyone.

i wish i could see the equestrian forest fantasy in this fragrance but i just don't. it smells like the boar bristle shaving brush in my grandpa's bathroom. i want to play among the trees but grandpa says no.

I must admit, I had much trepidation regarding Regime des Fleurs, given the hilariously obliterating reviews from deadidol on Fragrantica. He was merciless towards their earliest releases and I thought the house was a (very expensive) flash in the pan. Then I saw that they collaborated with Chloe Sevigny, and I started to pay a little attention to see where this house was headed. I sampled a few from the house and they were met with a lukewarm response. Fast forward about three years, and my friend Adam sends me a sample of Rock River Melody, and for once I was actually moved. I have a feeling this was not composed by the original perfumer and founder, and I will excuse the preciousness of the ad copy as I could do without that to sully my own impression of Rock River Melody. First, it opens with a striking balance of galbanum and a more cool, crisp ivy accord. Very crisp, leafy, somewhat mythic as the leaves of say, English (Hedera helix) Ivy are not always the most pleasant, they may verge on toxic-milky if crushed, but I know that Boston Ivy (Parthenocissus tricuspidata), closer in relation to grape, do give off a delightful crisp greenness with a musty, spicy undertone, especially when the sun hits their foliage. At any rate, I love the ivy concept in perfume, fantasy or reality, and I feel that fantasy here. As we enter the heart, the cedar reveals itself, feeling quite legible, as in one that is not gussied up and woody-ambered out, no scratchy, fuzzy, synthetic smelling abrasive sawdust and splinters. It's a vulnerable cedar, once again cool as the greenery, and ever so slightly adorned with translucent florals and a crunchy, earthy herbaceousness. There is something about it that is somewhat luminescent, as if opal was translated into scent, specks of green, blue, yellow, some red, some purple. As the name would suggest, Rock River Melody also has this aqueous quality, but it's almost like it occupies the liminal space between a dry, sun-kissed vegetation-filled air and a damp, cold draft, with foggy musks. I think this is what makes it most evocative to me, because it's generally a challenge to occupy that space in perfumery, and this is what lends a surprising naturalism here. It's very much perfume, but it isn't completely divorced from the organic smells of nature. This is an impressive effort and one that I grow more fond of with each wear.

I get the impression that the market for this brand is mostly women. The fragrances I've tried so far are unisex, but definitely lean a touch on the feminine side. (the same way I feel that Frederic Malle fragrances are mostly unisex leaning masculine.) Regime des Fleurs says Rock River Melody is the brand's exploration of masculinity. I wish the likes of Dior and Chanel were making mainstream male-targeted releases that smelled like this. This is an earthy, dark, green fragrance that smells rugged and masculine... and without a hint of ambroxan, shower gel, or bubblegum. Instead, it's vintage coded but modern and sleek smelling. You can indeed picture a river rolling over mossy rocks in a deep, dark forest. There's also smoky, leathery, sweet, amber, and patchouli elements. I haven't done a side by side comparison, but to me this smells exactly like, or has exactly the same vibe as, Des Cendres by Les Abstraits - which I own and love.

I might be biased because I absolutely ADORE Regime des fleurs. Their fragrances are like no other. So beautifully crafted and polarizing. Also can we talk about the packaging? I mean wow! Looks like it came out of a renaissance painting. Anyway, Rock River Melody truly rocked my world. Ik it’s for men, but I personally think it can be unisex. It smells like hiking through mountains in spring. I’ve never done that but when i smelled this, that’s the picture that conjured up in my head. Very green & herbal, a note that’s slowly becoming a fave of mine. I also love layering this with eau capitale to amp up the roses more!!
