Cigar Black Wood

MAKE WAY FOR THIS INEXPENSIVE BLACK FRAGRANCE Cigar Black Wood... does not have tobacco nor some of the notes traditionally associated with dark fragrances. Nevertheless, the name is not as misleading as it happens with its brother Cigar Black Oud. This fragrance is not cloying at all and rewards you with a great black scent. I'm glad to have this Remy Latour creation in my drawer. On top of that, I do like dark fragrances. It opens with a light citrus and spices, preparing your sinuses with what is about to come. The heart notes appear almost immediately to position the heaviest note of the composition - coconut. This note is quite gourmand and it's the main responsible for the enduring sweetness all through the fragrance life. The development is not apparent as you get all the notes in a very short while. Together with the coconut vibe, you get a sweet resinous smoky myrrh accord and the two notes will stay present till the end of the woody dry down. All the other notes play a minor role, some emphasizing the sweetness like tonka or the darkness like violet and guaiac. Performance is above average with a longevity of 7~8 hours and a sillage of about 5 feet when applying two heavy sprays. The global scent is somewhat different from any other fragrance, although it evokes a certain spicy sweetness that you experience in Spicebomb and Man in Black. Probably the main similarity happens with the non-resinous Zara's Wood Noir. My rates for Cigar Black Oud: _____________________ Scent Opening: 8.0 (loud opening) Scent Drydown: 8.5 (more sweet, subtle and agreeable than the opening.) Longevity: 7.5 (7-8 hours with 3 good sprays) Sillage: 7.0 (5 feet with 3 sprays) Wearability: 8.0 (Its darkness is subtle and its sweetness is very elegant and alluring. Just avoid hot ambiences or situations that will make you sweat.) Versatility: 7.0 (forget to use it in the Summer and sunny days during Spring and Fall) Compliments: 8.5 (With an increasing number of people enjoying "noir" fragrances I do think that this fragrance will please a wide range of both younger and older people. I love it) Uniqueness: 7.5 (there are other dark fragrances in the market.) Quality: 8.0 (great coconut, myrrh and guaiac wood. I bought this months ago together with the original Cigar. I unboxed Cigar first, and the first moment I smelt it, I was totally seduced by the enchanting fruity and floral notes. When I then tested Black Wood, all I could smell was the dominant coconut note accompanied by some unremarkable woody notes. At that moment I thought BW paled in comparison with Cigar. I applied BW a few times over the following month but could not get out of my prejudice against it. To me, Cigar was the undisputed champ of the two. Over the next two months, I'd almost forgotten about these two fragrances until one day I decided to give BW another try before I gave it away. To my great astonishment, I smelt a rich array of woody, spicy and floral notes that had eluded me the first time round. Suddenly, everything about this scent connected with me perfectly. What was previously a boring dominant coconut opening and middle note is now delightfully infused with spicy woods and citruses and florals. The smokey tobacco and woody dry down now feels deep and rich. It's so masculine it'll grow hair on your chest. I've really grown to appreciate this fragrance and I enjoy wearing it especially in the evenings. Performance and longevity are quite beastly. Spray it on your clothes and it will last all day. I have just bought Black Oud and I'm now going through the 'I dislike it' phase. I have to say I find oud very overpowering (I bought Armaf's Wood Shade last year and the ultra strong oud note in it made me very ill). We'll see what happens in a few months' time.

Absolute beast for the price. Stunning creation that's criminally underrated. Remy Latour just get spice/wood. Dirt cheap, complex and one of the best spicy woody perfumes I have ever used, despite the cost. Put this in a Penhaligon bottle and the same people who are bashing it for being synthetic will not stop raving about it. Synthetic is for the most part, a baseless criticism. The word is brandished about carelessly to avoid saying anything real. On a certain level, I can argue everything smells synthetic. Coincidentally, I managed to find a Halfetti Penhaligon recently and this 70-80% smells like it, at least in the opening and for the first hour or so. Note that the Halfetti costs around 40-50 times more in India, probably more (yes, that much). Beautiful rainy season perfume that can also be used in winters. Go easy on the spray because it won't leave your shirt for eight hours at the very least and this is after testing it in brutal Goa weather. The bottle and the sprayer is pretty much the worst I have seen in perfumes though and it is here you are reminded of how much you've paid for it.

Remy Latour Black Wood..... .....it is hard to believe that most reviewers talk about "hints of coconut" because i can smell COCONUT and then some. It is nicely tied in with saffron, Tonka, patchouli and creamy guaiac wood. Remy Latour does such a good job in making fragrances that do smell like unlit cigars out of a box. Some are smoother....some are harsher in the opening but they are all generally very good for the money you have to spend. A little side not here....I read a lot, when reviewers talk about "it smells synthetic"....?????. An ingredient can be synthetic or natural. A smell or blend can be smooth or harsh. Remy Latour Blue Label.... for whatever silly reason not in our database (The competitors seem to be better in having complete databases....hint....hint....hint) it could be a relative of Jacques Bogart Silver Scent and Nikos Sculpture. Not similar but they do share a core with each having it's own quirkiness.

I grew up in a little town near Shiraz.On those years in our town there was not too many perfume shops. cigar was a pioneer of the so-called ”supermarket perfumes” And it was one of the first perfumes i bought with my pocket money! when i saw cigar black wood for first time all those memories of those years came to life for me. I dont think the notes they have announced are correct.It is an excellent tobacco perfume that i would compare to some of the best tobacco perfumes that are many time more expensive. As a metaphor, this perfume is like a country boy with no facilities that becomes admitted to the best university. I really believe that it is the most valuable tobacco perfume considering the price that you can buy.A balanced and a little sweet tobacco_citrus_spicy perfume with enough projection and longevity.

Oh man! This frag punches WAY above its weight class. It smells very refined and is orchestrated so perfectly. Very well blended. Its cheap...but it sure does not smell cheap. Will update when I get a few full day wears under it. So far, I think its gold. 10/14/22 As you can see I have had this for quite a long while. It gets better with age. Pretty nice coconut and tobacco feel to it. Even though tobacco isn't one of the noted ingredients. This reminds me of some old school 80's beach fragrances. Still decent power behind it. I think it could work any season.

I purchased this based on the reviews I read here. I am so happy with my purchase. Smells incredible. Sillage and longevity are fantastic. Seven hours after I put it on it's still going pretty strong. I tried to come up with something negative and all I could think of is I can see where someone might think it's a bit synthetic smelling. Considering the price I paid and the performance it's a crazy good buy.

People compare it to Spicebomb and Man In Black and all I can do is SMH!! The opening is so chemical inducing that I initially wanted to rub it off but I figured I wanted to share my opinion about this fragrance before others blind bought it just because it's cheap. The coconut opening mixed with the citrus and spice notes smells like something that one of the ladies would spray on their "big hair" from back in the day. Do you remember the show The Nanny with Fran Drescher and her big hair and annoying voice? Think of Aqua Net hair spray. The dry down is not as bad but not good either. It's more balanced as the coconut is toned down and the soft woody notes appear with some darkness from patchouli. I will say this, it does have a niche sorta vibe to it but like the perfumer was rushed as if Luke Cage were after him.

This is a very good fragrance for a cheapie. It does have nuances of Spicebomb and Bvlgari Man in Black EDP (BMiB), of course Spicebomb and BMiB has better quality! I am just giving a point of reference. It is more playful and flirty with the coconut and lavender. However, it is not "overly" synthetic and the longevity is good 6hr+ with 6/7 sprays. Good for the 21+. Stay away if you hate coconut. Nothing about this smells like cigars. If you see it, sniff it after a couple minutes of drying down. It might shock you. Cool and cold weather only. Definitely hard to find something similar with this longevity and scent profile (or genre) at sub $20 for 100ml...

A scented patchouli fragrance, sweetened with a 'hint' of coconut and smoky wood (read: wood, no tobacco/cigar smoke - thank god!) I thought I would be underwhelmed by the lack of coconut in this - I was expecting it to be the main note as indicated by the pyramid. Don't be mistaken - the coconut here is but a suggestion, not a dominant topnote. The main note is unmistakably patchouli. I was pleasantly surprised by this unique patchouli blend. Quite cool and deliciously sweet - as all patchouli-based scents are. Average sillage and longevity on my skin. (and absolutely no resemblance to the headache-inducing synthetic horror that is Spicebomb)

I'm giving this a sniff for the first time and I immediately thought of Back to Black by By Killian - and they share a few notes! It's quite sweet and I noticed a tobacco accord of sorts which lent the comparison to Black to Black. The coconut then became detectable but only after I looked up the notes, and it's that which is bring in a sweetness. I sprayed it on 2 hours ago and it's still fairly present. I'm liking this so far.

One of the best uses of coconut in a fragrance; not overt to the point that it dominates the profile. I have trouble with going noseblind to this scent quickly though. I do still get whiffs of it after several hours; so, I can rest assured that I smell good, even if I can't enjoy it myself...

Average fragrance. I would score 5 out of 10. It is a linear fragrance, may smell synthetic. It is Long lasting with a dominating coconut note. It has a think smoky woody base that turns sweet in hot weather. Good for the price.

Fairly nice scent. I added MDCI Invasion Barbare to the "Reminds Me Of" list, possibly due to a more-prominent lavender middle note.

13JUN22 Arrival day...just testing this with 3 sprays to the back of the neck before going to the store for a food run. Wow...this smells like...a haircut at a barbershop! I get straight up "after-haircut-good-smelly-spray" that the barber puts on you after they cut your hair. This is really strong...like "P.R. - Ultrared" strongly sweet. I don't get any coconut, barely any lavender or cedar either.........just HEAVY spicy Saffron, Patchouli and Nutmeg. This is definitely a "Christmas-at-the-barbershop" type fragrance. Not quite sure what they were going for with this but I'm going to let this one sit and macerate until the fall. This is WAAAAY too strong to wear in the summer...yikes. 11JUL22 Bleh...can't be arsed to wait. I've a better old-school lavender frag coming in the mail Sending this along to a family member for funsies.

I have to admit to having the same disposition as the user smellinggreat mentioned below: most fragrances I purchase I generally don't like initially and have to learn to like/love it or stick with hating it. Right now I'm struggling terribly with this one. As previously stated by others, it opens up with a chemical blast. I think this may be one of the most "synthetic" smelling fragrances I own and it feels very heavy on me. It blends into an almost licorice type smell (maybe that's the wood notes in this???) and has a strong blast of alcohol. It's definitely not licorice, mind you, and this doesn't have anise or any licorice notes but that's what my nose comes away with. It reminds me of Yagermeister in a way and I had some very bad experiences with that in college so the scent association isn't helping. So I've got a heavy, synthetic, alcohol treat on my wrists that is subconsciously inducing dry heaves. These fragrances can't be found in my local stores and are so cheap it doesn't make sense to buy samples. I got it based on positive reviews but I can't wear this one. Then again, every nose and body chemistry is different and I doubt too many others here will also get flashbacks to fraternity hazing with multiple double shots of cold Yagermeister. This one is trying to kill me. Others may disagree and find this lovely and, honestly, that's great! Just because it's not for me doesn't mean a thing. There are plenty of positive reviews here but this one has too many negative aspects (dark, heavy, synthetic, alcoholic, punishing, sadistic) for me.

I smell cinnamon (not nutmeg) with a hint of tonka bean and cut wood and the same smell fades away in about 3 to 4 hours getting from strong spicy to subtle spicy. A spicy heavy scent. The worst ever built in atomizer that squirts and spills 50/50 after each press. The scent is for winter strictly and depends on your mood as it is certainly not the refreshing kind. A possible scenario is by the fireplace reading a classic novel smoking a pipe or cigar. For the 4 months of winter we get I might give this one a share of 1 or 2 days of the entire season or if I decide to watch Marco polo tv series again. If you are a collector go ahead if you are blind buying on a budget don't. Scent 5/10 Silage 6/10 Longevity 7/10 Value 6/10

I am a BIG fan of tradition masculine scents, such as tobacco, so I recently blind bought Black Wood and Black Oud from this house. Black Wood is not what I was expecting. There is no Tobacco in this fragrance. I get a large dose of coconut and lavender, with a touch of wood. Not really my thing. To be fair, I really dislike coconut, so I may be a bit biased in this review. But I decided to give it a full wearing. To my surprise, this turned out to be a well made fragrance, even though I don't really care for the scent. Bottom line: If you like coconut, you should try this one, it is a great value.

Nose Note #1066 Don't be fooled by the "remind me of" section. This is so far away from Spicebomb... This is basically Halfeti or something like Chopard Oud Malaki. Very headache inducing base that smells so similar to oud from Halfeti... I can't stand it. Praise be to the performance, but overall the scent is not nice. Pseudo-coconut. More than moderately sweet. Men only. Very strong. 4.8/10
