Mark Buxton

Here's the thing! I learned not to judge a fragrance by the first sniff of the top notes. Indeed this is very true when it comes to Mark Buxton's products. Mark is so genius. I don't think he gives a crap about his stuff getting sentimental "nice smell" compliment by people. We have seen many unusual yet masterpieces like CDG original, CDG2, White, Vetiver 46 etc. from him. Another great example of his intelligence is "Emotional Rescue" which is again with not a crowded formula he has achieved an extraordinary result. It is quite noticeable he was having fun in making Renegades but not a childish play with the notes! Renegades is a very high quality fragrance which I enjoy wearing and would recommend it to the noses who are familiar with Mark Buxton's taste.

It is reminiscent of Kinski for the first few hours of wearing it. The difference is that Kinski is warmer and more suitable for winter and fall, whereas Mark Buxton is greener and can be worn even in summer (Smoke for the Soul By Kilian is suitable for summer too) After an hour of wearing Mark Buxton, the cannabis feel fades away, and the guaiac wood, leather and rhododendron get bolder. The scent lasts more than twelve hours with a good sillage.

Smokey/vegetable/leather delight! A little bit similar to Blow up-Cinema olfactive but on steroids. It's like you're a daily weed smoker that has his leather biker jacket all smoked up. Absolutely wonderful and definitely the only Renegade from the line !

Funny name since there is nothing radical about the fragrance. Buxton’s creations during the 90’s matrixed this type of masculines; angular, crisp structures supporting mainly woody forms. These haughty hybrids flirt dangerously with crudeness but evade it through great perfumery skills and good materials. Incidentally, the present vogue indulges perfumers to further peel off layers of an already gaunt style of perfumes producing scents that are becoming alarmingly bare. Buxton’s renegade is basically a de riguer variation of a bitter green theme (galbanum, vetiver, incense, pepper) supported by powerful wood ambers. It short of works but leans a bit too much towards the side of French Lover only a shade drier. Nice job but why the daft bottle.

Lovely fragrance: imagine cannabis mixed with eucalyptus and you are very close, if not there. I was surprised how well it works, and Mark Buxton might well be credited with a stroke of genius for this. Nevertheless, the fact remains (especially as it’s no powerhouse—though longevity is over 10 hours) that I can make a good approximation of this, at a fraction of the cost, by splashing on my Prosaro aftershave and layering my Azzaro Club (Man) over it. 7/10
