Oud Rain Tropical Storm

Just discovering this house and I am pleasantly surprised by how much I like this. It might be my favourite in the tropical fruity and fruity oud categories so far. There is a refinement here, the fruit is tropical without coming of synthetic or shampoo like - it’s restrained, fresh. The oud is round and smells like there is real oud here instead of a loud oud accord (they list Cambodian). There are spice and fresh elements that keep it light and not cloying. The oud might be a little funky for some, particularly in the top and mid, by the dry down it’s more woody slightly tobacco. My wife commented that it smelled nice up close but the sillage was too oudy, which is probably going to turn some people off - thankfully not me. Aside from being a fruity oud this doesn’t have much in common with Oud Maracuja. It’s not as nuclear, it doesn’t have passion fruit, or leather, or a beefy oud accord. It’s definitely more elegant. I think this also executes the mango and oud way better than Gritti’s Mango Oud where the mango had a cheap lotion connotation for me. If you like a good fruity oud this is worth a sniff.

Every nose, every experience is different, to me Tropical Storm is a lot better than the original Oud Rain, don't get me wrong, Oud Rain is a great fragrance, very pleasant, with good balance between the fruity and oud notes, unisex, right in the middle but to me that was subtle and delicate when I tested I immediately thought "good but lack of power, I wish Renier could have a version leaning more to the masculine side"... but a few minutes later I found Tropical Storm and that was a love at first sniff, this is basically what I was expecting from the original, the oud note is stronger and the addition of the tobacco note make it more masculine and works great with fruity notes, specially mango, I never thought that mango could work that great with heavy notes like oud and tobacco..I bought a full bottle last year so I already had the chance to wear it during the hot and cold weather, performance in my case is really good, 8-10 hour on skin and days on clothes, moderate projection, I can wear it all year long but I recommend to go easy on the trigger during the summer.

Powerful blast of mango upon initial spray until about 10 minutes in when the woods take over. The mango settles way down and the pineapple becomes apparent as well as the saffron. This is an interesting fragrance that leans a little masculine when the tobacco finally hits, and the oud is slightly medicinal, but decent. Perhaps a little overrated and I probably won't buy a full bottle, but I would recommend it to somebody who is interested.

IMO the original oud rain is much much better unpleasant opening with rotten mango on the oud base. settles fruity woody with a prominent saffron, way more pleasant compared to the opening. to me it literally smells like a wooden room in a traditional Thai house with a bowl of fruit that's been there for a little too long. I think there are much better scents of this kind

I’m a little disappointed in this one. All I get is oud. I had a couple of friends give this the sniff test and they did not get any fruits at all. I own Oud Maracuja and love it as I get oud and passion fruit but this is very oud centric and linear. Glad I bought a 9ml decant.

i orderd decant of this 5ml.. ( typical fruity ) last 7/8 hours loud projection , and yes maybe wanna be oud maracuja.. this is goood fragrance 7.5/10
