French Line

Classic leathery-jasmine chypre that's sadly been discontinued. I am excited to finally having acquired a full-size spray without breaking the bank and it's everything everyone has ever said about it ... rich, traditional, and quintessentially masculine with an elegant retro 1930s vintage vibe. Think Clark Gable on an exclusive cruise ship with art-deco furnishings everywhere. There's history too with a nod to the SS Normandie (aka the 'French Line'), one of the most celebrated cruise liners ever built (1932) ... and which was also 'discontinued' as it ultimately burned-down and capsized in 1942. Fresh bergamot/lemon at the top ... then a very masculine full-bodied rose note ... followed by the heavenly drydown, an ambery-musky leather that's rich, unforgettable and accented with a royal trace of Caribbean coconut. A rare, elegant and truly 'first-class' fragrance experience.

Got a sample of this randomly and I wasn't expecting much from a brand I'd never heard of, in a old beat up sample box (yes, the sample came in a box). Took a first whiff of that little sample box and I literally said "Whoa." This is really nice! Spicy and herbaceous top, with florals then leather and amber underneath. Really well put together and attractive fragrance. Super masculine, with that traditional manly framework but doesn't necessarily conjure up comparisons to other old school manly scents. It straddles the line between that "barbershop" scent and something a little more sophisticated and unique. Really nice. If it wasn't such a rare bottle, I would definitely grab one of these. Scent is 9/10 over all 8/10.

This perfume is a killer. I collect compliments and you know what? I’m a woman. I am also of a firm believer of non gender perfume so it makes total sense. I actually think that for instance Fahrenheit wears great on a lady. But back to this leather. Mind you, little goes a long way. This fume is a beast. Longevity is very good and sillage enormous. It has a curious fresh and burned vibe about it. Artemisia takes the lead in the beginning but this is really a leather perfume. I barely get the rose but that is just me. The bottle is beautiful and perfect for keeping the perfume intact year after year. I had never heard of this before it stumbled my way, and for that I am forever grateful.

Thank you to all the reviewers below, your great reviews made me blind buy this one. I am not disappointed. What a beauty this is. So many notes blended perfectly. Starts off in a very vintage way, like an old school macho aftershave but then the class starts to come out, like on reviewer said below, it separates itself from a drugstore scent. I'm not the greatest with identifying notes but man that dry down, I can only assume that the leather, orris root and coconut are giving me this olfactory orgasm. What a gem. 10/10 Oh and I forgot this had an aerosol dispenser and it scared the shit out of me the first time I used it lol

I used this back in the 80's and loved it so much! I spent all my pocket money on a bottle and savoured every drop. I remember this scent as an 80's powerhouse, with lots of sweetness and herbacious sparkle in the top and a long, long drydown with warm spices (for some reason I remember the smell of cinnamon in there), combined with generous servings of leather, amber and patchouli. I'm intrigued by the mention of coconut. So that’s where that creamy sweetness came from! To me, it didn't smell like Antaeus at all! I find Anthaeus much more virile, dark and leathery. French Line was sweeter and more of a party......

This was my first 'Grown Up' Fragrance in 1988....so many memories! Im going to try and find a bottle...I need the nostalgia.

Lipstick, powder, leather and rose, mainly leather and rose--gee, were they thinking romance when they made this. A very good scent for a sophisticated man on a date, I think. It's just a bit too sophisticated for me lol. At times it's a bit jagged too: some of the notes stick out too much for me. For sure it's a nice scent and unique. The drydown is very comforting. Not something I would wear in the heat or at my age of 34, though. Save this for at night. 7/10 overall

It reminds me of vintage Antaeus in the drydown, but weaker. Easier to find and cheaper than the vintage CHANEL one.Very good.

The powerhouse masculine attraction. This blend is quite impressive and i believe it could be the leading revolution towards the 80s powerhouse masculine blend. It doesn't have that usual mixage of Russian leather "for him" labelled notes! it has quite an impressive number of notes that i didn't think they will form something unsual like this! The coriander, patchouli, carnation, coconut, and basil with some bergamot, artemisia, and leather are forming an amazing safe blend. I could categorize it as a drugstore blend but not the usual one! maybe because of the coconut note that kept hazy but obviously exist. I really enjoyed it quite much, and really worth full bottle for those who are into "masculine" 80s powerhouse blends and a safe one to wear. Beautiful.

Gotta love those oldies but goodies, especially when they have one of those aerosol atomizers—talk about a power jet of lovely vintage juice. French Line doesn’t quite have the same buzz as others of its ilk, but it really deserves the attention for its je ne sais quoi and swagger. Think a sweeter version of older formulation Antaeus with pronounced rose, jasmine, spicy carnation, and even a surprising coconut note—not a sweet suntan lotion coconut, but rather the raw coconut meat, lactonic and nutty. The dry down has a sumptuous musky amber, too... What a knockout. The handsome bottle has this nifty textured rubber exterior, too.

This is a great scent but I've smelled this before on other fragrances, i have. Chanel Anteus & Futuros by Aubusson. So ended up layering Revillon French Line with Futuros and they are so similar, it just amplified it. Good stuff..

French line is a man`s scent. There must be some mistake in the database. It is a very classic, very dry chypre, and it takes guts to wear it.Something about it is so alike with Trussardi Uomo...they could be kissing cousins.
