Charlie Blue

August 27th, 2014. I bought my Charlie Blue (eau de toilette) yesterday, after having looked for the original without having found it. To me, Charlie Blue smells similar to its original version. It lacks the aldehydes, but still, very similar. Another interesting thing: there is no oakmoss in the formula, but Charlie Blue delivers a strong chord of that. I believe the chemists managed to assemble the ingredients in a way to simulate it, or else, they used synthetic oakmoss (if that exists, of course), and believe me: it is very strong and convincing. Sillage and longevity are huge. Mossy-woody, musky-floral; Charlie Blue is an uplifting spirit with a fresh character. It might be a nice option for those who even like the original Charlie, but happen to have aldehydes not working that well on the skin. If you like the original, like I do, but do not find it available, give that Charlie Blue a try and enjoy it. Edit1: Charlie Blue and the classic Charlie are distinct fragrances. Edit 2 (on Oct. 8th, 2014): The more I wear Charlie Blue, the more I love it. It has been revealing wonderful facets on my skin along its dry-down and lifespan. Sometimes, day or night, I find myself asking where that beautiful fragrance is coming from. I smell my shirt, the sheets..., and find it is Charlie Blue on me. I am so glad I have it! Edit 3 (on Dec. 20th, 2014): Charlie Blue is a perfectly acceptable unisex fragrance: it is woody, but still, fresh enough to work very well on a man's skin. I recommend: men, try this Charlie Blue. For those women who look for a fragrance with a masculine touch, Charlie Blue is vivacious with some woody depth. Very good option for an after-shower moment. It makes you feel clean. Now, very important: I have tried the eau de toilette and the eau fraiche. If you like a fragrance that lasts, huge sillage and longevity, yours is the eau de toilette (the eau fraiche will be a total waste of time for you). But if you prefer a lighter and safer one, than yours is the eau fraiche. The eau fraiche, by the way, is the one shown on the photograph here. It comes in a metalic-fading-light-blue box and brings the words eau fraiche very clearly. The eau de toilette, visibly writen, comes in a solid dark blue box, one which reminds us of the original Charlie box. Just type Charlie Blue on Google images and see the difference.

A soft, fibrous, earthy green scent. like walking deep into the woods alone and finding comfort and serenity there. The Charlie names and bottles are so nondescript that I had no idea what to expect and this was a really nice surprise. Charlie red is lovely warm sweetness with a nice retro depth that i recently tried and liked. This however is its deep, mossy sister that is a little more subdued and serious but still quite alluring. woodsy and grounded but not dirty. much more sophisticated and expensive smelling than its price tag would have you believe. It opens like smelling a handful of dried fluffy moss in a field of tall browning grass and it gradually settles into rich shady depths like the forest floor in the woods from a storybook. I love the affordability and longevity of the Charlie scents, and I’m especially taken with how this one is so different from the others i've tried. this is the kind of interesting, confident scent that could easily be found in a much more expensive bottle from a niche brand today. out of the charlie line I feel like blue is the real treasure for me. projection is good and layered, this fragrance has dimension to it. i pick up on different elements depending on how close i am to my wrist. charlie red lasted all night on me and lingered subtly on my skin the next morning. so far blue is slightly less loud but i can tell it's going to hang around on my skin for a good while. one of the things i love most about vintage scents is their committed staying power. even after reformulation they can still last longer than a lot of modern perfumes. i would love to get my hands on some vintage charlie bottles because i bet they were total longevity beasts back in the day. I can tell i will be reaching for this often. i find it calming and grounding and can see it becoming a staple for me. a fantastic blind buy surprise.

A slightly less sweet version of the original Charlie she's still a slightly rank old fashioned soapy chypre... And it's great! "But Cassi, you just said it was rank..." Yes I did, and here's why that's wonderful. The pungent oakmoss and slightly bitter geranium are completely amazing when used as a layer. I am absolutely serious. It layers with everything. (although on some people the scent does turn into a wee wee or poo scent. In those cases, skip this one. That's true of any scent though.) Picked up that new Celebrity Sugar FragranceTM and suddenly you realize you feel like this makes you feel like you're 12? Add Charlie Blue first. That new Bath And Body Works body mist is nice, but some jerk said you smelled like kiddo shampoo while you were out shopping? Put on an inert (low scent or no scent) body oil, then the body mist, then two shots of Charlie Blue, then more mist on your clothes. Found a vintage bottle of an aldehyde fragrance and paid handsomely for it but now you're sad that all you smell is baby powder? Yup, that's right, oil up and try two shots of Charlie Blue on first. Someone tell you that new version of Joop! makes you smell like their mom? Yup, Charlie Blue's for you too! And the absolute best part is that even if you don't think it works for this it's so inexpensive you can feel ok just giving the whole bottle away. I'd gladly accept it. 👌😉

I didn't really expect anything, but I'm just blown away. This isn't just vintage but I would say this is like a historical chypre in the best way possible. It could have been made in the late 19th or early 20th century. And that is a good thing here. It's definitely unisex, but somehow I think it smells more interesting on men. It smells very seductive ja mysterious. If Sherlock Holmes had really existed, he would have smelled like this. There is that slightly indolic nuance from jasmine, and I love it, and compared with musk it's really sexy and animalic. Warm and quite sweet but still earthy and mossy. Still jasmine is the most prominent note on me. And really, If you don't like jasmine, you won't like this. Simple as that. This is so underrated perfume. Powerful and long lasting and it costs almost nothing. Still there is that feel of quality in it. It's so different and I want to be different. This isn't like those clean smelling mainstream perfumes and that's why we are so lucky. But this could have been made today by some niche perfume house and it could be sold at a ridiculously expensive price.

Clean and sparkling. Long lasting. Inexpensive. If you love Joy, you will like Charlie original and Charlie Blue. There is something woodsy about this, a chypre smell to me. I think this is a wonderful value. And I do use this one for layering at times as it makes a wonderful base. I will spray this on my skin right out of the shower and give it a bit to dry down. Then something that meshes with it on my clothes. A coworker mentioned to me that I really never needed to try another scent because she thought mixed so well with my chemistry. Always nice to hear. Update: I am wearing this today for the first time in a long time. I am hit with how powerful this is and how well it seems to go with my chemistry. It seems to me that this scent has a lot of the things that we look for in a perfume that we love but because it has been around forever and it's inexpensive, it gets overlooked. I'm wondering if today I had met Charlie Blue for the very first time and not 50 plus years ago, would I be be feeling like I had discovered something really special? Would I stop looking for that signature perfume? Maybe ...

I saw Charlie Blue mentioned in several places here on fragrantica but for some reason was under the impression, that it is discontinued. So I asked my mum whether she remembered it, which in fact she did, but just the look of the bottle and not the smell. A week later I spot it at the local Rossmann drugstore and blindly buy it for 5€. It definitely is "of its time" and does not smell modern. The certain harshness and boldness of the oakmoss and geranium fascinate me and give me a feeling of calm strength. The sandalwood grounds it. The staying power is surprisingly good, as is the sillage. I can however see how one might find it unpleasant, if you're not into that kind of perfume. My parents both sniffed my wrist after I sprayed Charlie Blue on it and were surprised by the "girly writing" on the bottle and asked me "This is a men's fragrance, right?". So you can definitely wear it as a men's fragrance or just wear it as your fragrance, no matter what your gender identity is.

I hadn’t smelled this since I was a kid in the 90s, but kept hearing really good reviews on YouTube, so I went ahead and bought some. I normally way overspray. This one has me good after 3 sprays. All our noses are different, and so is our skin chemistry, our biases, our preferences, and so are the background smells we have going on when we spray something. Still, I’m shocked at how bad some of these reviews are. Here’s what I get— for the first 5-10 minutes only, I get a floral aldehyde smell that’s just a little too strong. Then it calms down and smells clean and beautiful. I don’t have another perfume like it, but when I was doing my hair before work, I realized it smelled very similar (on me) to Biosilk serum. I’d say about 90% similar, but with a hint of musk. The longevity is good on me. I can almost never smell something the next day if I’ve slept in it. I could faintly smell this the next morning. This is going to be in my rotation forever.

Woah- what a difference a few weeks makes! I have been digging the nostalgia scents lately and decided to add a bottle of Charlie Blue to my collection- based solely on reading descriptions and reviews. My initial impression of this one was NOT GOOD. Bitter, dirty, pungent. I thought it was straight up H E I N O U S. But for some reason I kept coming back to it every so often. Its been a few weeks now, the weather has cooled a bit, and DANG. The formerly acrid bitterness is now a citrusy oakmoss, the sickly sweet is a musky powder. A total POWERHOUSE. It's everything I loved about wearing men's colognes.... but with a very high-femme twist (likely due to the addition of the floral notes). I was too young to wear this when it first came out, so while this smells vaguely familiar, I don't have any strong associations with it, so it smells totally fresh and new to me, and not dated at all.

I was looking for the original Charlie but could not find it. I remember a very fashionable and lovely aunt who had the original Charlie that she had her white pekingese dog wear it regularly in the 70's. When she got married and migrated to Australia, she left her dog with us. Last year l remembered Charlie again but got the Blue. I am absolutely sure Charlie Blue did not exist in 1973. It is a straight floral. The original is a floral aldehyde which l prefer more even if it reminded me of the dog. I like Blue though. It is strong compared to the tutti frutti, light colognes for men nowadays. This is unisex with masculine qualities. Inexpensive like the other Revlon colognes l have - Ciara, Fire & Ice and the new one l discovered Jontue. As a man I love them all.

Well, hello oakmoss, up until now I didn't know we were such good friends, since you were only lingering around in the background of some of my fragrances. It's a good thing that we have been introduced by Charlie Blue, which is by the way the umpteenth scent of the Charlie series I have blind bought and gladly added to my collection. This scent is earthy-mossy, like dense conifer forest after rain, with a hint of flowers and spices, it reminds me a little of the more floral Vanderbilt. Longevity is spectacular, sillage pretty heavy, and its very inexpensive. Just hold you breath for the initial 30 seconds, as SuzanneS mentioned, that particular blast is not so pleasant.

I just bought a bottle of Charlie Blue. My memories of the original Charlie were not the greatest since the last time I smelled it was in 1993. A bit too strong for me back then. In the last five years I have begun to crave more powdery comfort scents plus I am also on a tight budget. I decided to give Charlie Blue a chance. Glad that I did. Very beautiful,spicy,powdery floral wonder. The florals (smells like carnation even though it is not listed),oakmoss,and musk really pack a positive punch. I got over eight hours wear time with this. I find this fragrance to fit all of my crucial requirements for a scent. Fantastic price,scent, and lasting power. A+++ fragrance.

When I first smelled this, I didn't like it, didn't understand it. I thought the bottle needed to rest, so I left it for a while, and then, every now and again I would try it, then still not like it. I figured I had a bad bottle. Today, around 3 months after receiving it, I fancied something just a little different for the evening. It's 28 degrees and heavy-humid on this early August evening. I sprayed the normal 5 spots and waited for that familiar flat, sourish experience I usually get. But it seems my little bottle has sorted itself out; this time I GET IT! How is it possible to go from suspicious dislike to love so fast? YAY! At last.

Charlie blue is an old school fragrance with a dominant scent of oakmoss which has very strong earthy nuances and is very bright, I can say this is a perfume concentrated from oakmoss with a floral touch, a good mix of geranium, jasmine and rose in the opening, and sandalwood, musk with powdery nuances in the base note phase.....this fragrance is not for everyone, but I really like it and it is very rare to find this fragrance nowadays....very long lasting at such a low price this is an amazing treasure.... it's suitable for both unisex and masculine....i really appreciate this fragrance, even hesitate to give it 3.4 points

This opens intensely with aldehydes and hints of bergamot before drying down to a white floral with a green chypre edge to it from the oakmoss and galbanum. I also smell a soapiness to it. It weirdly reminds me of Calvin Klein Eternity but heavier on oakmoss, more 70s smelling and admittedly not as complex. Really love this. I Just got this for Christmas, the batch code says it was produced April 2024. My bottle is made in Spain. The name of the fragrance is not printed on to the front of the bottle, it has a clear sticker with Charlie Blue and the details about it.

when i was a kid, mom used to wear the charlie cologne, it was from overseas, it smelled so up class and amazing, this blue is close to that,i just bought it today for my own collection, love the subtle musk and floral in this. just like jovan musk, i love this for indoors, at night it smells fantastic, like the 80s and 90s, weekends, i dont know why but it gives me feel of iris note of Dior Homme, at a very good price point, longevity is decent, very unisex in my opinion, sophisticated and classy.i will always have a bottle, this is my childhood in a bottle :)

When my mother was alive, she wore Charlie Red and I wore Charlie Blue. I will always associate this oakmoss rich fragrance with her. Such loving, sweet memories. I miss her. I haven't had a bottle of Blue in several years, and I ordered one today. It used to be my signature, but it was hard wearing it in the years following her passing. It can be classified as a unisex perfume, I believe. It is strong, simple, and has great longevity and sillage. The weather is warm and I do believe I will be wearing this one a lot this summer. It's a confident, fun scent.

Charlie blue takes me back to my childhood I was 11 and my mum brought me this fragrance I felt so glamorous when I sprayed it fast forward I’m 37 now and still wear it In my daily rotation of fragrances and I couldn’t believe it I went to work and gilt loads of lovely compliments from customers and staff wanting to know what fragrance I had on and they couldn’t believe it and for £5 you can’t go wrong I still love it and will continue to keep wearing it but I only like the Charlie blue edt in the dark blue box not the eau frachie blue shiny sliver box

Like Charlie Gold, Charlie Blue is so much better than its price tag indicates. It’s much better than a 3.43 rating. The longer it’s on, the better it gets. It’s very sharp and strong in the opening, lots of earthy woodiness and oakmoss. The floral notes are a blend, not individually detectable to me. I sure don’t detect rose as an individual note. There’s nothing sweet about this on me - in fact, it comes off as a lightly floral chypre. The longevity is insane. The final drydown is soapy and clean on me. Very impressive. I love it.

I can't believe it's taken me this long to discover these Revlon perfumes! I recently bought Charlie Blue, Charlie Gold, and Fire & Ice, and I'm absolutely in love. Today, I wore Charlie Blue for the first time, and it’s stunning! Blue is a classic chypre with rich oakmoss and rose, giving it that old-school elegance. Charlie Gold, on the other hand, is a sweet, peachy amber—so feminine and charming. If you love vintage scents, you need to try these three. Plus, they’re super affordable, yet so long-lasting!

Magnificent classic chypre! It’s so good that i don't know how to explain my feelings for it. I just say this comfortably, this is one of the best fragrance i ever had. (in this price range) It’s very heavy on Oakmoss and Musk and Oakmoss is my favorite note of all time. Warm and sensual, dirty and clean, delicate and smooth, noble and aristocratic, very emotional and nostalgic. I just love it. I highly recommend this, if you are into classic chypre fragrances or big dose of Oakmoss or masterpieces.

Stinky, dirty, natural moss scent ... and it's amazing. Truly sexy, in my opinion - by today's standards. It's both fresh and soapy, but also earthy and a little unsettling. It's not complex, the oakmoss stage is basically from 30 minutes in until 10 hours later. Yes, this lasted for 10 hours on me. Which is AMAZING for an eau de cologne and even more astounding for $9. You get more than what you pay for this. It's kind of top quality. Many won't like it, but you're wearing this for you aren't you?

Been obsessed with this the past few days. It's gorgeous but god does it need to be dosed right! 2 sprays maximum, and I say this as an over sprayer of most perfumes! 3 sprays or more and it's revoltingly bitter and dirty - like an ash tray left in a muddy garden whilst it's raining. When dosed right however it's a glorious bitter green mossy floral with a slight 'ash tray' note that is reminiscent of Chanel Cristalle pre-reformulation. This is also my longest wearing fragrance so be warned!

I inherited this fragrance from my mother after she passed away last year. I never really liked it that much before and though it was just a cheap perfume (well it is) but now that I am wearing it, I just love it! The oak moss is so divine. It is nothing like the horrid popular berry perfumes you smell currently, Charlies Blue is such a vintage beauty and so very different from anything else I wear. Thanks Mum for the memories, I miss you xox

Bought it yesterday and it made me so happy. I love vintage fragrances cuz they are bringing me back to my childhood. I'm so happy for being in that group of people that can wear this scent without turning it into poop smell. I just can't imagine that something this beautiful can turn into something that bad on someone. I love how unisex this is and wearable through all seasons.

As soon as you spray, you smell the beautiful oakmoss and hint of that floral. it is unlike anything I have smelled before. so unique. and the longevity is quite good. skin: beautiful sillage of around 3 feet or so for a minimum of 4-5 hours and then dries down to a skin scent clothes: one spray on the clothes will stay for more than 8 hours. an excellent purchase for the price.

Time warp to the 70's.. O.M.G. Dad is driving a brown Ford Cortina with a black roof (same as the one in Life on Mars), Mum is wearing beige flairs and ABBA are number one. How does this get a dislike? Maybe you had to be there. Personally I wish my Star Wars T-shirt still fit me. This is a stone cold classic. Everyone should try it, preferably whilst watching Wonder Woman.

It has such a comforting scent. Spraying it on when stressed is calming, settling, Warm and cosy. like being hugged by mum. I love it. My mum bought this, but I'm using it~ It reminds me of her especially when we're not in the same country now! Love! Also, spraying it in the air and walking through the mist seems to be a good way to make sure it isn't too overwhelming~ <3

In another post I complained about the charlie made in Spain. However I took a punt on another purchase a couple of days ago, since I love this perfume so much. Again, made in Spain. But this one is different to a couple of others I'd bought and couldn't stand. This one is close to how I remembered it being. So I'm now one happy camper! Please keep making Charlie

I love this scent so much! its so comforting. And it seems to get better and better the longer it macerates on the shelf. No matter the different moods, or seasons, or current fads, this perfume is one I always reach for, when I want something clean and comforting, that's not too sweet. The price is an absolute steal too, so what's not to love?!

This is the first time I purchase this fragrance and it's still the stunner I used to remember 28 years ago. My mother and grandmother always had a bottle of Charlie. It's still heady, mossy and earthy, yet floral. Excellent silage and longevity, beautiful drydowA. A gorgeous chypre. I hope Revlon never discontinue such a classic.

The charlie blue made in the USA was beautiful, but now all you can get in the one made in Spain. It's enough like the former to be recognizable, but it's no where near as good. It smells sweeter, very artificial..I can't stand this one. Does anyone know where you can get the USA charlie, and why did they change it?!?

So Beautiful... Hippie vibe, earthy...Think of Woodstock Festival era. Headband, halter top, hip hugger bell bottoms, big smile. Oakmoss galore, peppery geranium powdery, woody, sweet sandalwood no patchouli, slight rose & jasmine inexpensive powerhouse Very long lasting, great sillage, aromatic

Lmfao i remember being little and this was always in the bathroom, and after using the bathroom spray the bathroom. it was horrific smelling, but looking back i realized this is an amazing vintage crazy rebellious perfume. this is way stronger then T-REX by Zoologist too seriously.

This perfume smells so great. I love the dirty woodsy quality of it. I lost my sense of smell. Of all my perfumes I missed this one the most. I wish it lasted longer on mu skin. But it's so inexpensive I can over spray.

This was first ever bottle of perfume and it’s still very beautiful and soapy to me it’s definitely like marmite not everyone will appreciate it but I love it the edt is the best one not the eau fresh that is awful

For those who like woody perfumes, this perfume is perfect. It is reminiscent of the sweet smell of freshly cut wood mixed with flowers. It is clean, fresh and long-lasting. A classic without a doubt.

Unisex fragrance, oak moss, geranium and musk, adds an Asian gentleman kind of masculinity, performance is average, only downside is the alcohol heavy, sharp opening, but overall, a nice vintage

Whenever I smell this perfume it reminds me of a classy and elegant women. I myself love oakmoss, which is very noticable in this one. Longevity: 7-8 hours. 9/10

I don‘t care what anyone else says, yes my grandmother wore this, maybe I have to blame nostalgia! But I must say it does have a bit of an Odd smell at first.

I really enjoy this, I find it's great to wear after a bath or shower as to me it smells like talcum powder, and for the price it's an absolute steal.

What people need to know about Charlie Blue, is that it’s unofficially a unisex perfume! Unisex perfumes were not big during the 70’s, so this was created for women who like the smell of men's cologne! This is actually great for both a woman and man. Because the original Charlie was a burst of flowers that made it overly powerful at times with it’s feminine scent being ultra female, Revlon decided to make a new Charlie, that had the qualities of a man that women like to smell. On a woman, it still has a feminine quality (The Jasmine and Rose) but has the stronger male attachment that makes it smell like a mans cologne in a very appealing way, that no one would think it’s not a female perfume. But on a man, it’s very masculine (Sandalwood, musk and Oakwood) and the Charlie bottle itself is very unisex looking too. So a man could take this around with him (To work, keep in his locker or even in his bag) and not have to worry about it being for women! Fills a room and is very heavy (Being that Musk and Sandalwood are the main notes, it brings a warmth to the room and does not overpower)! Lasts up to 6/7 hours on dry skin and 3/4 hours on moist skin and is still able to be smelt from arms length after an activity that makes you sweat (Like the gym). IMPORTANT UPDATE-I’m wearing this now, and it’s been nearly 2 hours and I need to say that this is a “One spray wonder”! I made a BIG mistake and sprayed both wrists, both sides of the neck and one spray under my shirt and it’s WAY TOO MUCH! Every time my dog enters a room I'm in, he sneezes and has to leave and he never does that! I feel like it’s hanging off my body like a thick, heavy blanket! Every time I move, it hits my face like a tiny slap. The sandalwood and geranium are so thick, they combine and create a thick wall around you that’s ready to punch anyone that tries to enter ha ha ha. This smells like an actual “Old ladies perfume” because of it’s heaviness and over powering sandalwood. Something that would make every grandfather turn his nose up, to avoid smelling it when your grandmother wore this sitting next to him in the car on the way to their family's home. One spray on the neck or a spray on both wrists only, would really make the musk and jasmine the main notes and give it a lovely sheen in the room so please don’t over spray! It does not have the flowers that the original Charlie has, so too much of this and you're left with a massive headache and a sore throat from breathing it in! I will only use one spray tomorrow to see what affect it has on me but I can’t wait to shower tonight and cover myself in Charlie-White...Charlie-Blue is too much for my senses to take! Shame on me for overdosing on this Charlie ha ha!

Sometimes I fantasize that one day during the seventies, the people in the Revlon fragrance department put their heads together to figure out how to make the old European perfume houses lose a few market shares to them... Let’s see... We cannot reasonably try to compete with them, let alone outdo them. No way we are going to stoop to IMITATING them. They have got a few weak points though : Their products are luxury goods many women can’t afford and they tend to have that “stiff upper lip” quality which can be seen as outdated by many. We are going to make a fragrance with more or less the same structure and notes as in their classics but it is going to be accessible to every woman and it will be modern and fun. Let’s replace the distant hieratic femme fatale who grants you a smile once in a fortnight with the hard working but nonetheless extroverted and flirty american business woman ! Yes, They have Catherine Deneuve but we have Farrah Fawcett... Charlie Blue reminds me of several chypre fragrances that I like/love . Particularly of vintage Empreinte and Cabochard, without having their wonderful subtleness. But in a way, that is what makes it so special to me. It feels more spontaneous and approachable, less intimidating.This composition is to the Chypre genre what Helena Bonham Carter’s dress sense is to retro/romantic clothing . A bit messy, eccentric, creative, intriguing , unique and consequently polarizing. I have read tons of reviews about Charlie, and that is the reason why I left it so late before I wrote one : It seemed to me that everything has been already said . But then, there is one thing which apparently I am the only one to experience with this fragrance , and it is its saltiness. Yes, my nose picks up something salty indeed, and it is neither a faint nor a flitting note, it is there from beginning to end. To be more precise, it is also aromatic, spicy and vaguely foody. Looking at the pyramid, I am clueless as to what it could be, but I see that coriander is listed among the original Charlie’s notes, and on other fragrance sites I have seen tarragon leaf mentioned. I also get a big soapy rose as well as a good dose of moss. As far as the wearability of Charlie is concerned, although it does have a strong sillage, it certainly isn’t anymore overwhelming than for example TM Angel and Alien ; I recently got my hands on a bottle of the Eau Fraîche version and it is indeed less potent, perfectly appropriate for daywear/the workplace.

Blue. Yes, a blue. A green & brown & grey but warm blue. And tactile too. Like flocked Victorian-revival wall paper. The sandalwood & rose are delightfully more prominent to my nose than I would have expected from reviews & votes. And despite my affection for oak moss - being the reason I randomly picked this up today, having recalled the mentions of it being of that irreplaceable lichen centric - the elegant & exotic supporting role of the creamy rich woods & powdery fleshy flowers being so forthcoming is making CHARLIE Blue all the more of a reward. Even on a day as stiflingly wet-hot as this -- it felt about 40°C in the shade -- I couldn't resist a liberal spray all over. CHARLIE Blue -- outstanding value for (my) money -- who knew? Dense yet refreshing, this smells like... 'perfume', or more precisely, like the template of an eau de toilette of a certain bygone era. Nearly vintage. Like a classic 'nice' soap now I imagine in an un-trendy but boutique shabby-chic hotel. Clean but JUST on the edge of 'dirty' - but not skanky dirty - floor of the forest sort of, indeed, mossy 'dirty'. Like something you could build anything olfactive upon. It's full and fecund. Earthy & floral. And relatively uncomplicated OR very well blended to my humble nose! But for the price? (£10... I realise it can be had for even less, but I wasn't in the mood to quibble with the shoppe owner) I'm even more pleased & impressed. Silage & longevity are equally satisfying, again, for such a bargain. By today's standards of fragrance beauty, this is rather "masculine" I must say, and I can't think of many women under 45 (at least none I know) who would give this a go. Shame, but more for me! I just bought this, and I sprayed it on the box then on my arm and have let it dry down, it's really pretty, it feels formal, like something you'd wear to a nice dressed up event, you could definitely wear it everyday. It smells quite classy to me honestly. It has a beautiful retro smell, it kinda reminds me of the rose and Jasmine in Estee Lauder beautiful, It feels very clean but really floral, mainly rose, geranium and jasmine is what I get. I really enjoy this, it's a very pretty scent, it reminds me of moms and grandmas, but not in a bad way, it's like a comforting scent, I think some people that aren't into vintage scents maybe wouldn't care for it, but I really love it, I was born in 2005, so this was more popular in the 70s to 90s, but I definitely was around a bunch of people as a kid that had fragrances with a similar scent, those floral aldehydes, I really love this! It's really pretty, I can see myself wearing it. I think it smells a bit retro, but honestly for me not dated, I'm 20, but I feel like I could rock it, even if something smells dated, if I like it I'll still wear it. But this one is not that, it's really nice. My favorite scents are the 80s scents, so I don't mind the beauty of 70s Charlie Blue! If you don't like florals, then I don't think you'd like this, I love soapy, floral, powdery, oriental, type fragrances, this is like a floral one, and I love it! Something about this makes me feel sexy and confident To all the silent gen, boomer, and Gen x women if you wear this I guarantee you smell phenomenal don't let anyone tell you this is dated, you smell classy, feminine and beautiful!

It's only 5€ and you get LOTS of products. So I wanted to try it out. Now, the notes listed in here are definitely not correct. I was expecting a geranium rose filled with moss, but it's not that. It's an aldehyde soapy chypre which opens smelling like a soap bar, to then turns quite animalic, dirty and indolic. Jasmin and Ylang Ylang are in the official notes, and they definitely play a huge role in this frag. They're powerful, dirty, almost decaying like funeral flowers. Some people say it smells faecal on them, and that's sort of correct: flowers that are rich in indole, like Jasmin and Ylang Ylang have musty, animalic quality that can turn poopy on some skin types. On me, luckily, it only smells like musty, mossy decaying white flowers (which to me is good, but can be disgusting to some) Some make comparisons with chanel n5, but they're absolutely not alike, aside from the soapy aldehyde opening. Chanel is soft and powdery and refined, Charlie is heady, clean and dirty at the same time. I've seen many reviews considering it masculine leaning, but I can't feel it as a masculine scen, it's rather strong, yet feminine, like a lot of old school chypres are. Overall it's a really comforting, "grandma" scent, strong aldehydes make me feel happy and clean, and that mustiness adds depth and personality. Not a perfume I would wear for going out tho, I feel like it's more of a scent that exists for me to enjoy alone. Sillage is incredible for such a ridiculous price, more than 2 or 3 sprays are more than enough.

I tried this on today - it is my best friend's favourite perfume although she wears perfume infrequently, and while out today I felt a bit stale and needed a freshen up so I borrowed a spritz of this, expecting, tbh, something not that great. It is actually quite a nice little perfume, I would happily wear this! Ironically I had been bemoaning the loss of oakmoss in some of my perfume loves recently with my friend today (cue usual blank slightly glazed look people get when I get onto my perfume sopabox!) and then I borrowed this to freshen up and got an instant blast of beautiful oakmoss! Where I would never have looked for it as well. I got oakmoss, powdery musk, rose mainly with hints of geranium and sandalwood and possible a hint of jasmine. It was nice, I would wear this! Pleasantly surprised. Seeing as this is quite cheap I may buy a bottle for in my "school bag" to freshen up with, so long as it still contains oakmoss. Longevity and sillage were surprisingly decent too, about 6 hours for 1 spray and gentle projection. A surprise winner! EDIT - I looked in the chemists today and oakmoss is no longer listed as an ingredient, nor treemoss. No tester either. Hmm. I think I would like a little bottle if it contained oakmoss, but I think this would fall apart without it. We are losing so many perfumes!

I decided to try some of the Charlie fragrances that I had never smelled before. Today I am wearing Charlie Blue. I remember when the original Charlie came out in the 1970's while I was a teen. Everyone at my school was wearing it, well except me I guess. I really didn't like it back then, too strong for me, I preferred powdery scents back then. I had forgotten what it smelled like to be honest. When I sprayed it today no memories of it came rushing back to my mind, but wow! A heavy dose of oak moss! Initially it is strong, almost off putting to me. I let it settle and as the oak moss dissipated I began to smell some florals (not necessarily the geranium) the sandalwood and faintly, the rose. I really began to like the scent and while wearing Charlie Blue today I could clearly see why this has been such a popular fragrance over all these years. The heavy oak moss does give it a vintage feel, but really it can be worn today by anyone successfully. It strongly projected for about an hour or two, medium projection for a couple of hours after that and now on hour 6.5 it's a skin scent on me. I can see how it would stain light color fabrics if sprayed on them. Charlie Blue is appropriate for any season day or night. It smells sophisticated and more expensive than it is. Great blind buy!

I blind bought this online for only 3'53 Euros postage included. So for that price I couldn't resist to try it. I must say that I've not recollections associated with this perfum since I can only remember the original Charlie being sold in my country during the 80's and none of the flankers. And also the original Charlie wasn't overly popular here. So I first smelled it without preconceived notions. Well, at first smelling it is quite sharp. Pencil sharpeninhs, lipstick, roses and A LOT of indole. This is quite the beast. But after 30 minutes this becomes tamer and even refreshing. It's quite retro and totally unisex. It's unique and interesting, even if I don't love it I think I may wear it a lot because in moderation this feels very fresh and cheerful in this heat. I think there's a lot of oakmoss in this, which I love, and has a soapy, clean make up vibe after the dry down. Also it's very hippie and somehow a bit aquatic. A bargain not to be underestimated. PS: I wrote this seven years ago and I wrote that I didn't love Charlie Blue. Well, things have changed because shortly after I wrote this review, I started to love Charlie Blue and today it remains one of my favourite perfumes.
