Electric Youth by Debbie Gibson

Electric Youth has been Reborn! Some scents etch themselves into your memory. For me, it was Debbie Gibson's Electric Youth. That sweet dreamy bright neon pink pixie fragrance left a permanent imprint on my imagination. For years...decades...I searched for something that came close. Fantasy by Britney comes close but is too sweet and the jasmin way too heavy imo. Nothing ever quite captured it... in 30 years of searching...until now! Thanks to one of you lovely reviewers, I tried cradlethesoul138.com (eBay as cradlethesoul138) that claimed 'Neon Youth' to be inspired by Electric Youth. I ordered it. It arrived yesterday, and wow—it delivered! One spritz on my arm and I was standing in the glow of neon posters and cassette tapes. It lasted all day on my skin, and this morning, though the scent on my arm had faded, it’s still going strong on my shirt. The formulation is seriously impressive. Not some cheap knockoff or watery interpretation—it’s bold, sparkling, and unmistakably reminiscent of the original. Electric Youth is back—and better than ever! If you’ve been missing a discontinued scent that they have brought back, I wouldn't hesitate to try. (not sponsored just seriously impressed.) Awesome packaging also! 😁 10/10

Revlon Electric Youth by Debbie Gibson Cologne Year Introduced: 1989 - Feminine Notes: Top notes of aldehydes, grapefruit, and citrus notes; middle notes of ylang-ylang, watermelon, and red berries; and base notes of musk, woods, and amber. (Information from Surrender to Chance) I am fortunate to still have my original bottle with just a little cologne left in it. This was my signature scent in the early 1990s (when it was still cheap and I was in my very early 20's) and I wore it for work and play where it always garnered a compliment. It is very unique - I've found no other perfume that smells like this so far, plus it has great lasting power with moderate sillage. I couldn't tell you what notes are better than others, maybe the watermelon, red berries, and musky woods come through the most. There will always be a place in my heart for this one.

In remember smelling this in a Teen magazine waaaaaaay back when I was a youngster. My cousin and I LOVED Debbie Gibson(actually she was the bigger Debbie fan...I was pretty loyal to my Tiffany) and we reaaaaalllly wanted this perfume. I remember thinking the bottle and the pink spring was the coolest thing ever, but being in middle school, we had no means to aquire it. Begging and pleading with our moms got us no where. Eventually we grew up and Electric Youth slowly tumbled from our HUGE stack of "wanted things" and eventually fell off completely...until now. I want Electric Youth for my inner child's sake.

I still have a few sprays left in my bottle from the '80s, and I let myself use it about once a decade. Today was that day. Honestly, it smells like nostalgia so much that I feel like I'm having a difficult time pulling out the separate scent notes. It's strongly floral, almost honeysuckle, but not quite. And I swear I can detect a bit of Big Red chewing gum deep down. There is a woodiness to it, but it's more of a green wood, like the smell of breaking off a green limb from a peach tree. The closest thing I've smelled to it is the Sweet Sunrise body spray by Body Fantasies.

Revlon or Debbie Gibson, if you are reading this....Please release this again for us old fans :) I have a vintage bottle, but it has gone way off and only smells slightly like I remember in the far dry down. I ordered a recreation of this from a fragrance oil company, but it smelled nothing like it. I'm hoping if I let it sit for a few months, the notes will come through. That has happened in the past with another perfume oil I ordered, so fingers crossed!

Just scored a bottle of this off eBay. Well worth the $80 price tag (to me, anyway lol). I have been wanting to revisit this one for a while now, and I must say—NOSTAGIA IN SPADES with this little gem. I LOVE IT. And it’s held up surprisingly well. You can definitely tell it’s a “vintage” perfume, but the original smell is still there.

I had this in 1989 I was in 8th grade!!!! I absolutely loved it and I remember it smelling fruity,floral,sweet & fresh! It smelled soooooooo good and I'm sure I over sprayed it (it was strong & long lasting) lol I wish I would have kept my bottle.....this one was one of the 1st perfumes I bought with my allowance!

I had this back in 1989 I was in 8th grade!!!! I remember it being a sweet,musky & powdery and a little went a long way!! This stuff lasted for hours but I'm know back then I was over spraying lol But It did smell so good IMO kinda wish I would've kept my bottle after I used it up.

My first perfume ever! I was a 13 year old teenager and this was the no 1 perfume at the time...well. we didn't have much variety at the time.i still remember the smell and how excited I was to get it.

closest i can get to this these days Is Juicy Couture Viva la Juicy Nior. Miss this scent so much but Juicy Nior will hold me over. Electric Youth was an amazing scent.

Oh man! I can still smell memory whiffs of this then I see the bottle! This was the Britney Spears Fantasy of its time!

I recently ordered a small $35 bottle of this on eBay and was so excited to smell it again, and I'm incredibly disappointed with what I got. I wanted to get that instant transport to the late 1980s when I was dancing to Debbie Gibson and Tiffany in my bedroom, singing into a hairbrush and wearing leg warmers, but instead, the contents of the bottle smelled like they had turned rancid in someone's attic over the past thirty years. I can just barely get a hint of the original fragrance on my arm, but what I do remember is quintessential 80s. It was peppy, pink, and neon fun, just like the bottle with the little hot pink electric zap floating in the center. Sadly, I will continue to wish I could get that experience again, because the perfume in my spray bottle is as dead as Debbie Gibson's pop career. Edited to add that, two hours after applying it, I sniffed my arm and finally got a whiff of nostalgia. On the drydown, all that unpleasant grandma's attic smell disappeared, and I was left with a trace of the original Electric Youth sweetness. What I wouldn't give for a bottle that still contained just that scent! It's my childhood.

i love wearing this every so often because it's still fantastic. it's 1989 in a bottle, neon pink plastic spring and all. i loved it then, and i still like it. picked up another bottle on a whim - no idea how it was stored for the last however many years - the liquid in this one is more orangey-gold than pink. the first spray (from this specific bottle) smells a little off, maybe a little like an old empty Avon bottle or some kind of powdery wrongness. but give it five minutes, and once it settles in, it smells the way it is supposed to - which is pretty amazing, really. so i guess what i'm saying, is don't be afraid of the older bottles. if it is cheap enough, give it a try!

This has got to be the sweetest scent to come out of the 80’s. Oh my gosh, it’s sweet. Electric Youth smells like powdered fruit candy, fizzy fruit soda, and everything else artificially fruity and sweet, all on an ambery base with a hint of wood. Wow. There is a bit of odd plasticky note when you first spray it, but it fades away, and I like the drydown. It remains sweet throughout wear, and the amber is noticeable. I wear this as a guilty pleasure, when I am in the mood for something very sweet and kitschy retro.

Suddenly I thought of this fragrance I used to love in my early teen. (Yes, I was a big fan of Debbie Gibson too). I had a teen magazine with EY ads with a small sample. I remembered the scent so well. It was sweet, not gourmand sweetness like today's perfumes, but flowery, pretty and bold, just like Debbie's character. So yesterday I searched for EY perfume in a fragrance website I buy and, oh! What a surprise! They have it! Unfortunately it was out of stock.

I LOVED this in elementary school! I was given a small bottle for my birthday in grade 6 and I thought it was wonderful (my parents probably didn't agree- which may be why my mom taught me the "spray it once and walk through it" application method!). I remember it smelling sweet (I always thought of strawberries) and lightly musky and woodsy. I'd be really interested in smelling it again today for old times sake but have no idea where I'd find it.

Oh my, I'd forgotten this one! This was the precursor to all the sugar-sweet-fruit-candy Brittney and Mariah type fragrances. This was super cheap and SWEET. Oh and the juice was neon pink! So tacky and yet every time I walked past the tester I couldn't help but grab a quick spritz of fruit candy. End of confession.

I had this because I was a HUGE Debbie Gibson fan. I wish I would have just kept the bottle for memories. When Ici by Coty came out, it reminded me of this perfume and that was my signature scent until it got discontinued. I've been on a search for a dupe ever since, which sparked my obsession with perfumes.

Tried Ralph Lauren's Midnight Romance today and it brought back memories of Debbie Gibson's Electric Youth. I just had to see if there was a review of the scent of the 80's. Sweet, sugary, frosted flakes...you get my drift.

This is the perfume that started my obsession many many years ago! A few years ago, I bought a couple bottles online and it smells the same as it did back in the day! Memories!

I can't recall the scent as much as I would like too. All I remember is that my kid self loved this sweet scent more then anything. Now the song won't get out of my head!

I remember this being VERY sweet. Heady flowers mixed with syrupy fruit candies and some sort of sweet spices I couldn't identify. Those sweet spices were probably the amber and wood notes being overwhelmed by fruit and flower notes. It was too much for me then and I wouldn't go for it now, but I would enjoy smelling it on someone else. It would remind me of frosted perms, neon t-shirts, acidwash jeans, and skyscraper bangs. Electric Youth disappeared from my school as soon as the grunge scene arrived. It wasn't around long, but that bottle with a pink coil left an impression.

Bwhahahaha....I had this back in the day! Somebody gifted it to me, in 1991 I believe. Turns out, she only gave it to me because her parents forbid her to spray it, lol. I remember it was loud, sweet, and kind of sharp in that bargain-price teenage 80s perfume sort of way. The bottle I had, the liquid was a bright almost neon pink, not yellowish like shown here. Funny, it really did smell kind of neon--which was all the rage at the time. Neon pink lipstick, neon shoelaces in your LA Gear Brats, and a comically-huge neon bow in the frizzy sideways ponytail that just grazed your massive, linebacker shoulder pads. We had it goin on, baby! At any rate, this ended up in the trash not long after I got it. My mom hated it too, as did seemingly every person over the age of 19. My bottle with the neon pink slinky inside got confiscated and thrown away, and I went back to the only perfumes my parents deemed acceptable for me at the time: Love's Baby Soft and Coty Wild Musk. :-)

Not a review as much as a comment. This perfume turned me off of fragrance for years. A girl in 5th grade got a bottle for Christmas, and she sprayed it generously every hour or so. The smell was so sickening that I thought I hated perfume. It took me ages to realize a light hand makes a difference, and not everything is as overpoweringly disgusting as Electric Youth. No desire to smell it again, but I'll never forgot that awful bottle with the pink spring.

Really not sure what prompted me to look this up! I remember my older sister (and I suppose most every other girl in school back in the day) owned this one. It was a "starter fragrance" for so many, as such perhaps a bit oversprayed, and I personally never cared for it because it smelled nauseatingly sweet to me. Walking into the ladies room at my junior high was somewhat like being beaten about the face by a bag of stale watermelon jolly ranchers.

horrible! one of less than 10 perfumes (I've sold fragrances and been around/worn/tested countless varieties) that cause a MAJOR headache. got it for Christmas a million years ago.. because I loved the bottle and Debbie Gibson. lol never could wear the stuff. tried a few times.. and .. ugh. soo heavy.

Man, even as a teen, I found this candy bomb way too sweet. I was more of a Tiffany fan anyway when it came to pop music and more rock and roll than anything.

I bought this in 1991 when on holiday in the US. I took it to school with me after the summer holidays and encouraged most of the girls in class to put some on, and polluted the classroom 😆 My teacher was not amused and confiscated it until home time. For such a cheap perfume it was incredibly long lasting. Can’t really remember how it smells but I didn’t like it much and only wore it because I liked Debbie Gibson.

One tiny little sneaky spray last night before bed and I can now smell it quite strongly at 9am in the morning. This is the strongest, synthetic sweet fruity-floral I have ever come across. I actually have never had anything that lasted this long on my skin aside from Angel. I didn't really appreciate this one when I first bought it, I thought it was quite generic bubblegum perfume that smelt faintly of cardboard and plastic. Now, I have to say I'm quite impressed by it, its strength, longevity, and sillage. I think its just a really well executed sweet gourmand for teenage girls or people who want to smell of candy from time to time. Less than $15 on fragrancex - very good value as compared with EDC's of today or any of Revlon's modern perfumes for that matter.

I ordered a sample from surrender to chance because I longed to be transported to the magical eighties. The best decade ever! The perfumes reflected the times filled with confidence, positivity, and abundance. Its amazing to me that this was a drugstore cheapie because its quality rivals some expensive niches I recently sampled. The scent is a fruity floral oriental with a woody amber light vanilla base. The fruit feels of the purple variety, maybe some plums and grapes? Some raspberry and pear maybe too. A little cotton candy but not at all nauseatingly sugary. Its no longer made, but honestly if you want something like this, I find Burberry Brit has a similar style and flavor.

This was the first perfume I owned (not the first I tried on - because I was always getting into my mom's perfumes). I loved this perfume, and almost used up the entire bottle - and then I stopped using it, because I didn't want it to be gone forever. I still have it, and I tried it on the other day. Even though the color has changed from pink to gold, it still smells really nice! (Which is pretty amazing, because I have other perfumes that aren't as old as Electric Youth, and they smell terrible after a few years of no use.) EY is like a cross between Britney's Fantasy and Curious. If I came across another bottle, I'd buy it, because chances are it will still smell really nice.

My FIRST PERFUME EVER. Omg, just seeing this on Fragrantica makes me so happy! I can't even remember what this smells like but I remember the bottle well. I got it for Christmas when I was super young, like 11 or 12? I would kill to get my hands on some of this now. I vaguely remember this smelling very sweet, I would spray it with abandon while listening to Madonna or Debbie herself on my pink stereo. Good times. EDIT: Thanks to a sweet and delightful swapper I am now holding a brand new bottle of this in my hand and laughing VERY hard. It's SO sweet and it is very young smelling, not my bag at all any longer, but the nostalgia is great and I'll always cherish it!

I typed this into the search field on a whim and I was floored to see it listed! If lavender, baby powder and "Tinkerbell" was the scent of childhood, then this takes me back to middle school: side tied t-shirts, slap bracelets and watching Mayim Bailik as Blossom and Saved By the Bell on tv. I think it got it as a Christmas present one year, but I know I wasn't alone. You could smell it in the halls and see it tucked into our low-slung Jansport bookbags. My brother used to steal this and use it as cologne (Which just goes to show, wear what you like the scent of.) And when you're thirteen, what's not to love about a hot pink squiggle in your perfume bottle?

My mom got me a bottle of Electric Youth for Christmas back in the day. I remember I was so disappointed because I wanted an Oriental powerhouse like Opium and I got Electric Youth instead. LOL! Oh well....what can I say about this fragrance? It has got to be the sweetest perfume I've ever smelled. It's a complete cotton candy bomb! The bottle looks so dated to the 80s that it's hilarious. It's so very new wave. It looks like it should have been launched earlier than 1989 -early 80s perhaps -about the time the movie Valley Girl came out! If you're into 80s retro, you should try and snag a bottle of this off ebay. It's good for memorabilia if nothing else.

There was a time (1990) when literally every girl in my elementary school was wearing this (including me.) Reminds me of a time long vanished, some place hovering between late '80s ennui and early '90s high energy. Think mid-career R.E.M. meets the Beverly Hills 90210 crowd. In other words, a curious and somewhat irritating clash of styles--not quite childish and not quite mature. Really couldn't wear this again, as this fragrance does not represent fond memories for me. I'd forgotten what an odd developmental phase I was in at that age.

I was born in 1980 so I was always a little too young to have my own bottle of this. I remember eyeing it at drug stores, being so fascinated by its neon pink spring-shaped insides, wanting to possess it *so badly.* A friend gifted me a bottle as a gag in 2002 and I've kept it ever since. It resides in its original box and sits up high as a trophy of sorts. I rarely spray it (at this point I'm keeping it for the bottle) but when I do, it smells just like I always thought the cool older girls probably smelled.

Buy a good dupe on Ebay, Cradle the Soul. They were selling on Etsy, but changed to Ebay. Per their FB pg, there ARE imposters selling on Etsy now, pretending to be them. I bought a perfume spray from them & got a sample of this & it is good. Some of those "Remake" companies are horrible. NEVER order from Scentmatchers, or Fragrance revival, horrible CRAP. I do like Dossier, Oil of perfumery, & a few from DUA. I do not think they have one for this tho, mayyybe oil of Perfumery, I haven't looked.

"Out of the Blue, Dreams Come True!" Oh, how I loved Debbie Gibson, her peppy songs, and this fragrance! She was one of the first teen idols to have her own perfume, and the scent so perfectly matched her upbeat music with romantic, I-have-a-crush-on-you lyrics! I remember it was a fruity fragrance that left a sweet trail. And as a previous reviewer stated, it was everywhere! Tremendously popular until it was eclipsed by Exclamation! and Tribe a few years later.

I rode my bicycle to Eckerds drugstore to buy this with my birthday money. I stacked those dollar bills from my grandmas and aunts on the counter and went home to spray it on my sweaty 4th grade arm. It smelled like unrequited first kisses, notes passed to your BFF with check yes or no, the window seat on the school bus, sleep-overs, Keds, Lip Smackers, and the first week of summer break. Perfect innocence.

Nothing else smells like this. It's got ingredients they don't allow in fragrances anymore like certain musks and spices. It's sweet but not in the sickly way many scents are nowadays. This is a musky amber and vanilla with jasmine and lavender and a fruity spice accord. Very strong and long lasting. It's in the same family as Aviance Night Musk. They justify don't make perfumes like this anymore

I am 46, and I still remember this perfume so fondly. We (everyone from grade 7 to 12) smothered ourselves in it, and the boys loved it on us! lol It was used head to toe, definitely sprayed in our big hair! Loved the scent! Fruity and zingy. Reminds me of better days. Youthful craziness. Some of the best summers. Yes, I would definitely buy this again. Just to re-live those sweet memories. :)

OMG nostalgia in a bottle. I used to douse myself in this when ai was in 8th grade. It was so good. I’m sure all the staff was just thrilled to death. Can’t think of a single friend that didn’t own a bottle. Sweet, but not cotton candy and still ambery and warm. Oh to have just a sniff to take me back (arms length, 8th grade dance, all nerves and hormones.)

What girl of the 80's didn't own this or know someone who did? I loved Debbie Gibson and of course owned a bottle of this. It may have been my first ever perfume and I do believe it was. I really cannot recall the smell but I do remember actually liking it unlike a lot of the super powdery types available at the time for teens and the younger crowd.

I just picked up a bottle of Escada’s Celebrate N.O.W. Upon first impression it reminded me of a perfume I used to know. I thought for a bit and Electric Youth came to mind. I may be completely off here but if my memory serves me right, this Escada could be the older more sophisticated sister of Debbie’s Electric Youth? Thoughts?

Nostalgic of this fragrance? Try Cacharel Yes I am... Amazingly similar!! This was an unbelievably wearable fragrance. I loved it then - ah, the 90s... - and love now what Cacharel has produced, which brings back such happy memories! The notes are identical: fruit, white flowers and woodsy notes. Try to believe girls!

Pure nostalgia, circa 1989. I haven't smelled it in ages, but I remember it as being one of the few "teen" scents that didn't make me retch. In fact, it was very good. Nobody in my crew wanted to admit that they had it or liked it (because, you know, Debbie Gibson --- SOOO 1988!) but everyone had it on their dresser.

I just received a bottle in the mail; Rio by Avon. I had a suspicion it was a dupe of Electric Youth. I just tried it. It was a great blind buy. Smells like 1988. the year it was released. I am not a very good scent person, but if memory serves it is a little like EY. Has anyone else compared the two fragrances?

Memories! Candy fun and silly teen girls and Tiffany. My first ever perfumes. This is where my Mom taught me to be light handed with perfume. I bet I saturated myself with this. I do remember it being sickly sweet and gave me headaches, but I was so sophisticated I continued to wear it.

I just love internet! i had totally forgotten about this perfume! Until i was remebering debbie gibbson and loved her song Electric youth, then i remembered her perfume, which i totally loved too! I googled it, and there it was! I ́m thinking on buying it online! What memories!
