79 Au Gold

Reviewing Velvet Oudh by Rituals recently made me remember that I've done one half of the Gold & Silver Alchemy Collection, Silver 47AG, before Christmas but never got around to reviewing its warmer sibling, 79AU Gold. These are a pair of very attractive 15ml mini bottles that explore a theme of ancient alchemy. Silver is this quite fresh day wearer amber with some rich woods set against some sweeter notes of fruit, spiced up with cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and some heady rum, but a bit brighter than that suggests. Gold is a darker imagining of a similar theme, designed to be a night time wearer. It has this wonderful cardamom and orange blossom opening with some rich sandalwood and patchouli all set against this rolling, warm, all-enveloping musk draped across the middle of this like a fur coat. Gold wears very different on the skin than Silver does even if the notes may not suggest that. It gives me Thriller III vibes a bit because of the cardamom and the musk. From the outset Rituals made these two to be layered and I have to say the effect is very nice. Adding in the spices and especially the jasmine from Silver freshens and invigorates both. It gives me slight Naxos vibes when you layer it; not sure why. It is really impressively well done, especially at this price point. The cool thing about these two is that they are small enough to carry round in your bag and are absolutely unisex. You aren't going to get all day, all night performance but they will do you a solid 5-6 hours and whilst projection is modest, both are gentle enough to allow you to overspray with confidence and this does turbocharge performance. I enjoy the way they feel when I wear them. Both are extremely underrated in my opinion and I stated in my review for Silver that I felt these two were "gems hidden in plain sight" and I absolutely stand by that. This is good stuff. Rituals have discontinued it so grab it while it you can, I promise it will not disappoint. Grabbed this alongside the Silver one, and it's just as incredible. Longevity is a bit lacking, but the scent profile is perfection. Rituals, please make this permanent!

I totally agree it smells (at least in the beginning) as Blanche Bete!! I did not know that as I blind ordered BB and in the meantime I bought this limited edition as I was pretty amazed by this (which is unusual as I do not reach for The Rituals perfumes) - but yes, if you want a travel size/budget BB - then this can work but it has more of cardamom and orange flower and in the dry down they are not that similar (BB is more sophisticated for sure). If you pair it with 47 Ag Silver which comes in pack, then you are closer to creaminess of BB. I would say reach out for this limited edition, just do not expect some longevity or crazy projection but it's cosy, a bit mystical, perfect for fall weather. The nose: Ilias Ermenidis
