Sultan de Muscat

Fresh citruses opens up and lands in a well carved out wood and leathery scent on my skin. It’s does invoke a sort of leather jackety-smell or the smell of walking into a leather workshop with old used workbenches. Quite a neat fragrance actually, especially for evenings in colder weather paired up with a jeans shirt and a leather jacket. For me it sits somewhere in between good and great. Although I’m not sure I will buy another bottle because it doesn’t really jive a hundred percent with my skin. For someone looking for a clean leather smell for a fair price this is a great alternative

Just after I bought this I was walking through a village in Spain and passed the open door to a centuries old monastery chapel. Intoxicating waves of incense, wood and leather hit my nose and I immediately thought 'Sultan de Muscat'. Since then it has been my go-to frag and I regularly get flashbacks to that moment in Spain when I'm wearing it.

I love it! Dirty spicy patchouli blended with woods and some citrus. A classy gentleman from 80's or the 90's with leather briefcase would wear this. Quite linear, but I want it to be like that. Better performance than I thought, but over the middle range. My wife hates it, but I don't mind.

Christmas Eve tomorrow night, and of all my 70+ fragrances this is the one to wear on this special occasion. The beautiful patchouli note is the backbone of this great perfume, and the note lasts and lasts. Highly recommendable! Sultan de X-Mas!

I was intrigued about the fragrance line of Rituals, first because of their Oriental ascetics, but they also offer travel 10ml. bottles which I think is great! I believe at this point of my fragrance journey I know what makes a good oriental fragrance. It needs to have spice, floral, and woodsy notes. Balance is also key of either of the fragrances. I love oriental fragrances because it is my heritage as well coming from the Philippines and lucky enough to have travelled a great part of the Orient --- I love India and Cambodia! I know I am not a fragrance snob, in fact one of the best best perfumes I keep are locally made with no label at all. I tried to test some of their fragrances and I was drawn most drawn to this. Palace d'Ambre is very oudy/ambre but was not something I was looking for at that point. This fragrance opens with a superb blast of green citrus, when it mellows down a hint of black pepper corn cord comes out. I can even smell a soft cardamom. It sits with this cord for a good hour and then it lingers into a sandalwood with leathery patchouli scent. A good 4-6 hours with moderate sillage, not bad for a eau de parfum bought for £8.50 - 10ml. Im honestly impressed! Im trying to think what this fragrance reminds me, it reminds me of the desserts of Rajasthan. Dry, warm, and very spicy. This can be unisex but leaning towards a masculine scent. This is a familiar scent though (Marc JAcobs- Bang) but of better quality.

Sultan de Muscat was an impulse buy, based on the notes and I am glad I bought it. There is a lot more going on here than the listed notes would suggest. SdM opens with a leathery incense vib from a mix of leather, patchouli and spices perhaps? This only lasts for the fist 20 minutes or so, then I get a creamy wood wrapped in a luxious leather. Throughout the day I am getting whiffs of citrus, floral and spice that round out the dry wood and leather. There is an underlying mellow sweetness that reminds me a bit of a Frapin scent. I see this as a more masculine than feminine scent, but I can see this being worn by a woman. I get good projection and longevity on my skin. SdM is great for either causal or business attire. Overall a very good fragrance. It is not bold but it is also not offensive. A great office scent, but SdM can be worn for all occasions Bottom line: This is a great non-offensive scent that is worth a try if you like masculine, woody / leather scents.

Rituals don't make this anymore, which is a real shame, as it's a proper corker! Woody, mossy, glossy, rich, warm and soft. It'll slither all over your skin like a sexual boa constrictor that wants to lay it's eggs. Having the word "Sultan" in it's name also gives a nuance of Royalty to this scent, but you would be very lucky indeed to find a Sultan that smells as good as this. It is definitely one for the tails, rather than the no tails, but a rusky heft of a ladyface might be able to get away with it. For sure, it is a tried and tested formula, which stops it from getting a 10, but the ingredients are used in such a fannytastic way, that it smells new. It has pretty good sillage and quite high longevity. As it is no longer made, you will most likely on find one that is second hand. Tough titties. 9/10. Rituals have many perfumes that are decent for the price, but they don't deserve a 10.

These are my first impressions. Right off the bat, what I can smell just after spraying is a lemony citrus opening blended with some woods (sandalwood is certainly among them). The citrus smell is not very natural, but it faints after 5-10 minutes. After that the scent is very woody. The patchouli is certainly there also (a smoky one). And the leather is quite subtile and velvelty, nothing like the more leathery leathers (thinking of TL by Tom Ford). I'd say there's also some spice (black pepper?). Not bad, but nothing special either. A very simple, nice-smelling scent. (Got the traveler size bottle (10ml). I like them, is like getting a decant instead of going for the full bottle. More companies should start doing this)

I bought this one today, my review is only after a few sprays. Ingredients are of good quality, which is expected as rituals is positioning the brand in the high end segment. This one is my favorite among all of the rituals for men offering. It is a good blend, I am positive that there is black pepper in this, which is not listed. Sharp wood and pepper notes are nicely softened by sweet patchouli. Sillage, longevity is moderate. It is a skin scent after 2-3 hours. It has got a vintage character, which I like. It is a good blend, certainly worth a sniff. Try before you buy.

Intriguing scent here. A full-bodied patchouli note at the outset with the sharper woods peaking out more towards the end. It is luxurious but not altogether alluring or comforting. The leather note holds out the longest. I don't get much in the way of sweet or fresh. And the lack of one of those is kind of unique in my experience.

Incensed wood chips with patchouli oil and a slightly dirty leather. Earthy and peppery enough to be engaging, but it's very moderate projection and definitely should be reapplied if its to last all day. Best suited for cool/cold weather.

Fantastic fragrance to get you cozy with your girl. Warm leather and slightly woody. Could have better lasting power thou.

hated this scent like crazy! i never hate scents, but i’d say i hate this one. i had many, 3 bottles of this scent from my old workplace. gave it to my siblings. none of them liked it too and none of them used it. even my mum disliked it, we just put it in the bathroom to scent it. even then spraying it, i find it offensive. noticed it’s discontinued, if you’re from norway and wants this fragrance lmk bc i have a bunch of bottles. ♡

I was pretty stoked when I found out about this fragrance as I was getting more and more into woody, leathery scents at the time. Now a couple years later I discovered the world of niche. Getting my nose back to Sultan de Muscat I have to say I am a little underwelmed. It basically is a peppery, woody scent with lots of nutmeg in the opening. It remains linear until it becomes a skin scent 2 hours later. Projection is below average. I like it as a fragrance "composition", but not as a cologne to actually wear. On my skin I experience it as "dusty". As if you open a very old wooden box that hasn't been opened in ages. It's faint and unpleasant. I think it's the overdose of nutmeg (which is not listed) that causes this. 6/10 for quality / performance 7/10 for composition / blend

I loved this spicy and forward smell but it has been discontinued. I still have a bit 10 ml travel bottle and spray once in a while to remind me. Fortunately, I have come across Iberian Leather by Memo Paris and feel like they are similarly spicy and bold that IL fulfills that oriental niche for me, though more expensive option. I would say Sultan De Muscat was a gentle version of IL. Many years ago, I also liked Samarkande by Yves Roche which had this spice added to Halston Z14 feeling.

This perfume has almost everything and I love it. I just wish it had double the lingevity it has now. Roi de Orient has adequate longevity, if Sultan de Muscat only had that lingevity I'd call it my signature scent. Honestly I fail to fathom the negative reviews about it as I have tested this in many perfume-skeptics who endorsed it as a great release. An 8-hr lingevity would have made this frag a masterpiece.

Warm and spicy. The woody vibe reminds me of Juicy Couture Dirty English. Patchuli is also notable. When my boss walked into the office she asked "Is that Patchuli?". The performance and longivity is a lot better than Dirty English. It lasts more 8 hours on my skin.

This scent is manly in an alluring warm and classy way. But I would wear it also as a woman, on special occasions.
