Mountain Memories

Pleasantly surprised by this one. Definitely the stand out in the set. Very dark and damp. Water logged woody base notes, spicy wild berry brightness on open, rich blend of savory and sweet tea notes, and a really unique smokiness that rises and fades rather quickly. I feel like I've stumbled into a cobble stone cottage in the early morning after a night of heavy rain, a fire recently extinguished, jars of tea and herbs everywhere, and creaky old wood boards alive with mosses and vines. God I love this. There are some white florals that are green, yet to bloom, and wild. Possibly poisonous. Kind of a witchy fragrance. One thing of note that I don't adore is what appears to be Roan's DNA. Once again there is a clean musky linen note. Not really finding it's place in this cottage and seems to outlast many other notes. Otherwise really beautiful. Gonna go hike some deep dank forest in search of my witch wife. Edit: Damn it. Hate editing these reviews but after having these on me for some time most all I could smell, with out pressing my nose to the spray site, was their soapy linen DNA. I hope it's just me. I will for sure plan on giving each a full embrace day wear at some point but I don't know how long I can stand feeling like I have bar soap residue on me.

This fragrance is not getting enough love. It is a tea lovers perfect fragrance. And it's very unisex. I saw a reviewer say it's not unisex unless men want to smell like honey. Funny enough, I was with two female friends when we tried it in New York. One of our friends smelled it on me, then on our female friend and she said "it's shocking how different this smells on each of you." For me, it has a spicy tea note, obviously. But balances well with the floral, pepper and leather notes. The leather notes really come out on me and make it more masculine for me. This is truly a year round fragrance, it works well in the warm sun, as the tea notes shine the warmer your skin gets. In more climate controlled settings, you get the peppery, oaky notes, accented by the white flowers. This is one my my favorite discoveries this year.

Beautiful and unique. I love tea fragrances and this is one of my favorite scents this year. It’s a bit darker, the oolong bringing earthiness, and the tea note stays with me throughout the day which is rare. The leather is just present enough to be grounding and the florals provide balance. It’s just so well done. This reminds me every so slightly of Indigo Smoke by Ariquste. Except not nearly as smoky and swap the apricot with a subtle raspberry accord from the combination of cassis and florals. Layers fantastically with Black Tea lotion by Bath & Body Works and I easily get 8-9 solid hours of tea-focused goodness out of that combo.

Mountain Memories is love at first sniff for me. I love woody scents but sometimes it can be too heavy for the summer, but in this case there is a freshness that makes it a good year round choice. I purchased the Discovery Set and instantly fell in love with this one. It is the most tea-like in my opinion. I can really smell the oolong tea, and when it has settled into its base notes, the fragrance has a refreshing scent that reminds me of our recent journey to the Cascades. My husband tested it as well. Highly recommend and works for both genders!

In my mind, this perfume both roars and hums. It's giant resting between misty mountains. Oolong tea, which in my experience usually tastes bitter, roasted, and earthy really comes through vividly here. Out of ROAN’s collection, this feels like the “darkest” offering. The tea note is central, but it’s the leather and oakmoss that give it weight, adding a heaviness that feels both mystical and mythical.

This is a smoky, woody and darkly fruity tea scent. it opens with some jammy black currant and smoky oolong tea. The florals here are creamy and slightly earthy. The dry down is more woody forward with a mild leather and hints of herbal pachouli. A gorgeous dark tea fragrance.

Earthy and powdery. Smells almost like a sweet mist. The name really suits it, it smells how you imagine a crisp morning hike. It smells like that Chrome theme of the misty pines. It smells like late spring in upstate New York.

There’s something unmistakably green here—verdant and grounded. It really does evoke a mythical mountain: strong, serene, ancient. Like a tall, protective figure standing quietly among the trees.

Misty and robust to start, Mountain Memories, does captivate my nose in its texture and legibility, both of which seem to elude perfumers in creating a proper tea fragrance. The feeling of a lightly smoky Oolong tea really is here, earthy and aromatic, accompanied by the slight tart accent of cassis. There is this cool sensation on my nose, as if I am breathing in mountain air. Over time, a soapy floral quality moves forward, with a woody, leathery undercurrent. The impact of the first hour doesn't really persist, but the dry down is nice nonetheless, if not a bit of a detour from the initial mood. These days, I favor a bit more sturm und drung in my fragrances, but Mountain Memories is an admirable effort to paint a dramatic setting as the backdrop to a tea ceremony of sorts.

there's something in here making this smell very soapy, and whatever it is, it really brings down the rest of the scent for me.

That fermented tea-leaf note is there, and it’s well done. The opening has noticeable pink pepper that clearly transitions into blackcurrant leaf, but overall it feels very heavy and sour, mixed with dark, murky woody notes. I don’t really like it.

The memory of a mountain meadow next to a tea plantation. The sky is grey, with a stillness that precedes rainfall. Wind rushes and whispers through knee-high flowers and grasses. You're alone, but not lonely, running your fingers over the waxy-shiny-fresh leaves of the tea-plants, feeling the connection to the earth. In the distance, tickling curls of smoke weave toward you from the roasting of the oolong. This is a purely unisex, bracing, sweetly savoury and astringent and transporting take on an oolong scent. Projection is pretty intimate, longevity is moderate at best, but it's totally transporting and magical!

The last of the 3 scents I've tried from the discovery set. I really like what this brand is doing. With Mountain Memories in particular, the use of sharper medicinal green notes that are paired with smoother creamy white florals + tea is very well done. A slightly masculine leather-y and earthy woody base is what follows, but there is an interesting coolness which prevents everything from feeling too heavy. My only complaint: the pink pepper at the top is STRONG, like... feel your nose hairs burning from agitation levels strong. This luckily subsides and you are left with a lovely composition afterwards.

I had a ROAN sample set gifted to me. If you are into strong perfumes these are great! I however am not...when I saw Oolong Tea/Oakmoss in the note breakdown I thought for sure I would like this but don’t get it twisted it doesn’t smell like tea. If you are looking for a tea scented perfume this isn’t it- this perfume smells like, a beautiful/strong perfume. On that note, if that’s what you’re looking for it is a beautiful scent. Like being at the spa, it reminds me of my boujee auntie.

First on I get black tea and flowers, more Jasmine tea than oolong to my nose. Very floral, like honeysuckle, with that yellow honey smell that honeysuckle has. The tea is nearly overpowered by honey. Ended up scrubbing off because it’s hugely floral. Nothing at all like I thought it would be. Certainly not unisex by any stretch unless guys like smelling like honey flowers.

I think this name perfectly suits the fragrance. I can see myself wearing this on my next trip to montana. Woody but still light and clean.
