Bois Bleu

I have to eat my words for that one. Not that I previously bashed it, but my perception was wrong (or maybe a little air had it change a bit). In the opening I get some citruses, and then shortly after some florals, dominated by a violet carpet and some nutmeg. The drydown is more classic, with a grassy green vetiver, and in the late drydown, some dusty cedar and I would bet also a subtle vanillic elemi as supporting note (in the same vein as MH Vetiver Insolent and Dior ESP 2017). Surprisingly, it keep its freshness down to the base. For under $50 that I paid for it, it's a big love for me, and it's highly recommended. Great performance. Spring/Fall days, 30+

I have become a big fan of Piguet fragrances and Bois Bleu is another example of their use of top-notch ingredients and superb blending. Smooth? Let me tell you, it's like spraying on a velvet suit of Violet, Vetiver, Nutmeg, Cedar and Sandalwood. I really wish Piguet fragrances got more talk here in the US, they're definitely well worth checking out. Note: You can find this for under $50 on ebay/Amazon if you do a little looking and are patient.

A "young" fragrance with an old soul... Every time I wear this it surprises me that this was released in 2013 and not 1973. I love the scent. It's unique, masculine and has a distinct classic vibe to it.

Bit of a weird one for me this... I thought it was okay but I'm not crazy about it. From the notes listed here you might think it would be a bit of a tired creation but it isn't that, I found it to be quite original but still not a show stopper. It may have been because I was so taken with Bois Noir which I tried immediately prior to this. Didn't leap out at me. I've been trying to remember the smell of Bleu de Chanel and have failed miserably.(maybe that speaks volumes and both are utterly forgettable?) I remember thinking it was mediocre but I don't recall it being similar to this, although I will have to check...to satisfy Calyx93's curiosity. Apparently BDC is like Davidoff silver shadow altitude(phew!) and this juice is not like that at all...so ergo...ipso facto...it's not like BDC! Hope that helps...Clear as mud!

Strong violet but somehow they "class it up" with a supporting cast that seems simple on paper but is stellar on my skin. People mention words like mature or old school when describing this, I can see that, strong violet scents tend to do that. This to me though is concocted so well and crafted to mix and slowly change to something above average. Violets then vetiver then woody.

A very masculine, old school, elegant scent. It lasts for more than 12 hours and has good sillage during that time, so the performance is really good. Edit - I wrote my review to quickly. It lasted for several days although it obviously slowly turned into a skin scent. Unusually good performance.

Very pleasant daytime masculine woody fragrance. Seems modern and classic at the same time to my nose. Whereas bois noir has a lot of spice in its woody composition this is more floral and simple.

While testing this out, I can say that sillage and longevity are up there and the fragrance itself is of quality. That being said, I think that this fragrance is extremely similar to Guerlain Vetiver, Givenchy Vetyver, Tom Ford Grey Vetiver, you get the idea. The difference being that Bois Bleu, not appropriately named by the way, is barebones. I'm noticing that besides Fracas and Bandit, a lot of Piguet fragrances are quite skeletal. They're lovely, but they aren't full bodied; which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it's about the experience. It's simplistic and linear in a way of it only containing two stages of development. The notes you get above, are exactly what you get on skin and you shouldn't expect any more than that. It's linear, in that when it dries down, the wood becomes the focus as the top notes fade. This really is lovely and perfect for Spring, Summer, and Fall. It doesn't have enough oomph for Winter. I would say that it's lovely and worth a full bottle, but not at the price currently at $90+. This should be at a $45 to $85 price tag and it would be perfect for the price. Do not pay more for it, you can get more full bodied and richer experiences

The last review of this was 5 years ago! A bad sign. My bottle is very old and this smells very nice in quality , natural and has some nice volume. The overall vibe of B.B. is happy and optimistic - masculine and young. What will destroy this will be the COST vs. OTHER BLEU OPTIONS / VETIVER OPTIONS out there. (Guerlain Vetiver has much more BITE for a few bucks less). I love this house - Casbah and Bandit are amazing ! As is Fracas and Mademoiselle Piguet . If I was Bois Bleu, I'd be looking over my shoulder for the axe to drop. Nobody out there craves this . BUT if you see it in a thrift store or a yard sale (and if you live in Paris , LOL) you just might see a used bottle in the wild. GRADE: B minus. You can be sure that there is an Armaf or Alhambra out there that smells like this for $25.00 & free shipping.

Given the name one would probably expect a screechy woody aquatic a-là Eau D'Issey Pour Homme, instead Bois Bleu is an old-school woody vetiver with some spices thrown in the mix and a smooth violet note. For the most part this is a nicely done fresh / citrusy grassy vetiver (as opposed to the rooty / smoky type) with not much else actually. Despite leaning too much towards the synth side of the spectrum during the final stages, still somewhat nice and probably worth a sniff for any vetiver-freak but if you're planning to explore this note for the first time, there are much more relevant options out there. Rating: 6-6.5/10

Blind Buy because Piguet is my new favorite house! This is the perfect example of IT'S NOT WHAT YOU USE-- IT'S THE WAY THAT YOU USE IT! Simple list of ingredients = POW! Home run. Most of my Piguets are for Ladies (I'm a gender bender) so this very masculine scent was a great welcome! LOL. Possibly the most perfect classic/modern gentleman's fragrance! It opens with some complexity and dries down beautifully. It smells very " creamy blue"!

Vetiver in all it's splendor. Very beautiful scent, but something I would love to smell on a man. A very handsome man. I am a very girly/feminine type of woman, I would not wear this scent.
