Cravache Eau de Parfum

Successful reformulation of the 2007 re-release. The fragrance is now rounder, more balanced: with beautiful fruit, crisp lavender and fashionable saffron leather. The third Cravache in 60 years: a fine leather chypre became an aromatic fougère, now transformed into a leathery oriental. Always there: the lavender, the key note of this fragrance. Is it also the best Cravache? Let's see. In any case, I like it better than the 2007 version.

excellent signature summer/warm weather scent... for me it starts with similar citrus notes as Dior Eau Sauvage, but modernized, then develops to an amazing soapy creaminess do to the orris root, reminding me to that of D'Orsay E.Q. Top notch creation, a pure delight. Without a doubt a FBW

Test drove a carded sample vial. For a second I thought I liked it, but it quickly developed into a particular type of spicy scent that I do not prefer.

This is a fairly interesting fougère that deserves another check. It started off lighter but with a bit of edge.

I'm seemingly one of the few "believers" in the 2007 EDT edition of Cravache (I've never tried the 1963 original), which I believe has been unfairly negatively criticized in the frag com since its release. People negatively compare that one to a lesser Chanel Pour Monsieur when, in my opinion, it is very much its own "thing" and has its own individual character as a chypre and shouldn't be compared to the Chanel if one wants to be totally objective and fair. Thus, the 2007 EDT release never caught on and has been relegated to near obscurity within the male fragrance world. So what about this 2022 EDP release? Many reviews outside this site have called this a superior version of the Cravache DNA, so I recently ordered a sample to test it out for myself. My hot take: If people think this 2022 EDP release is a drastically better version, then they definitely have not given the 2007 EDT release a fair go or have purposely panned it without comparing the two side by side. That's my biggest takeaway. This EDP moves the Cravache DNA from the solidly "traditionally masculine" side of things and more toward a unisex direction. The addition of the orris root makes this much soapier and creamier and ultimately "softer" in its approach compared to the 2007 EDT, which is more rugged and "brash" while still being a refined fragrance. The other most noticeable change is the addition of leather, which, to me, is definitely my favorite aspect about this 2022 EDP release and possibly what people were most disappointed about with its omission from the 2007 EDT. All in all, this is a big win in my books; I enjoy this specific DNA, so this 2022 EDP release is going right to the top of my "to buy" list. But I can't emphasize enough that if you happen to like this 2022 EDP rendition, then checking out the 2007 EDT is definitely worth your time. Each is a quality, underrated fragrance, and I genuinely wouldn't rank one higher than the other.

What can we say about Cravache... it means whip, the one used for riding a horse, denoting an elegant and stylish man, well it succeeds very well! A clean, citrusy, airy and fresh fragrance that when worn makes one understated and classy. Masculine yes, but on a woman it absolutely has its reason, it makes her more decisive and attractive, I would really wear it with pleasure. "Forbidden reproduction" painted by Magritte.
