Fracas for Men

I got a bottle of this for an incredibly good price as my friend HATED it... like many seem to I felt like an elephant in the room while discussing this with friends, as I really enjoy it... so long as I only spray once. Every few hours or so. The opening is almost nauseating but it dries down to a very lovely woodsy fougere. Lots of lavender and this wood that fragrantica has called 'teak' To me, this smells of sugar that's been burnt black, a really dark licorice and a deep rose. I honestly think this has been blended quite well. It feels a little soapy and the opening is far too strong, but it finishes soo well. Whoever the perfumer, whatever the time, this was really enjoyable for me and a spectacular blind buy. On my first try, I got really tipsy and was planning to record my horrified reactions. My reaction was no where near as hilarious as I expected so I never shared the recording (which I'm glad of, in retrospect)

Got my bottle today sealed from the 90's, I can say that some of the notes in my bottle has obviously aged. I can no longer detect the opening notes but can detect a fresh aromatic barbershop style opening and definitely the wood/patchouli combo which has aged beautifully with a hint of masculine rose faintly in the background. Musk and spices which smells like cumin to my nose (although not listed) can also definitely be detected. Longeivity and silage seems moderate. The sprayer is poorly made so it's not always easy to spray but I am grateful that at least my sprayer is still functional if im patient enough! A great reference scent added to my collection and I am happy to finally be an owner of this underrated gem.

I enjoyed wearing this fragrance and am personally in awe of Fracas for women; yet sadly, I have to agree with AliceBowie that the packaging and mechanism of the bottle could be improved. I would still buy and wear this fragrance purely because I like it, it's inexpensive and because I refuse to be a perfume snob. The lime, apple, neroli and bergamot are very masculine/citrus top notes that actually last quite well, and the sillage of teak wood is great in the drydown as well. This fragrance is definitely worth a try if you're not fussy about the packaging.

DREADFUL is the kindest word I can come up with for Robert Piguet's Fracas for Men. Oh my bloody stars it is like smelling Freon mixed with sewage from Tijuana that has been fermenting in an old cooler for about six weeks in the Mojave Desert. I have passed homeless men on the street that smell better than this travesty. I did a little research and there is a reason behind why it smells so bad. It seems this was created when Piguet was sold to a company called, Alfin Inc solely to cash in on the fame of Fracas for Women. When the company was sold Fashion Fragrances & Cosmetics Ltd. in 1995 this formula was dropped as a phony Piguet from the line. It was considered not a legitimate creation of the house of Robert Piguet by those in the know. I won’t even bother to go into the notes since they are so noxious that I could not identify a single one as I ran screaming for the shower. The bottle is some kind of pseudo deco design with a huge ugly plastic cap. It shouts “I am cheap, loud and classless and I don’t care!” through a bull horn as it rides on a unicycle down the center of Rip-off Avenue. Fracas for Men is the grand marshal of the bad taste parade.

ahh...haha...a..ha..haha...hahhahahaha...hahahahha!!! Good joke! So...ahem...is this satire or parody? Because I really don't know. Although, I know I am very amused by it...LOL!! THIS is Fracas? For men? Really? This is how Fracas for Men would smell like??? hahahhahhaha....omg! =========== Ok, joke's over. My honest opinion is: Good joke, bad scent. When I first sprayed it on, it took me to those early times when I first started making my own scents and didn't know what in bloody hell I was doing...some of my concoctions actually smelled like this!!! (Well, some worse, some better.) That's why I was laughing so hard! Fracas for Men reminded me how utterly clueless and what an idiot I was. LOL!!! I still am, but hopefully, I've learned a few lessons since then. Anyway, to sum it all up: this is a bottle of cheap ingredients haphazardly put together by (what appears to be) an amateur...and then given commercial distribution. (Ouch, that last part hurts! Robert Piguet's Fracas For Men Eau de Cologne Purchased On eBay The opening note of green apple lets me know that it's a vintage 1990 fragrance, that is a product of it's time when even men's colognes had fruit notes at the top/opening notes such as apple - i.e. Tommy Hilfiger and only a few of the less popular fruity men's frags like Creed's Aventus in today's market. This is terribly out of date and out of touch with today's fragrances but all the more reason for me to appreciate it and wear it to be a non-conformist perfumista. The bottle with the black cap and the glass flacon is old fashioned and even feminine looking. The color of the liquid is also pretty ugly (urine yellow) but the scent is really something! Opens with green apple and citrus scents of neroli and lemon lime. The fresh citrus burst is the equal to aldehydes with a very sweet and strong effect, fruity and zesty; somewhat shampoo-y but very pleasant. The citrus opening is very traditional except with the feminine neroli and orange blossom aroma which I've smelt on women's perfumes. This is already coming off not only as 1990s but unisex and feminine. The frag then settles into a rose and patchouli heart. This part is also feminine as many a woman's perfume comes with rose-patchouli combos. But here it's akin to Chanel's Egoiste; aromatic, green, herbal, a rose with a more green and sour note, nothing powdery or super girly. There's also a bit of a Drakkar Noir thing going on but with more rose and apple or rather a fruity floral air than a green air. The dry down is musky with something similar to a warm leather. Very musky and in fact it was hard for me to detect other base notes. There's a bit of wood and a vanilla. For me the dry down is similar to soap. This is generally clean and inoffensive, and quite good but most men today won't dig it because it's old fashioned. It's still pretty wearable because you do find men's frags with citrus florals and even rose-patchouli nowadays. I think it might not be to everyone's tastes because it reminds you either of Drakkar Noir (some guys don't like that one) and Aventus which is also quite unpopular at the moment. I find this fragrance to be invigorating and fresh, fruity without going into fruit bowl fruit hait territory and the musk is the saving grace. The aromatic greenery is subdued leaving behind a fresher floral scent with oranges and apples, and a dry down of clean musk. This is a good daily wear thing to put on after you have showered and want to smell clean and not particularly impressive nor masculine. The only real masculine element in this thing is the musk which does give it a less feminine scent. Not bad. Loving every minute of it. Definitely for some guys. A daring unisex scent female might want to try this one though.

Wouldn't it be great to have a male version of the sublime, women's tuberose classic Fracas? Unfortunately this doesn't even come close. Fracas for Men has to be the greasiest fragrance I've ever experienced. If those citrus dominated top notes could cut through the oily, teak wood note that floats over Fracas for Men's very cheap smelling base of musk and vanilla, it may have had some balance. But, as it stands, this cheapo, drugstore fragrance reminds me of Vitalis mixed with Crisco. BTW, the bottle's plastic top and spray mechanism are made of the cheapest materials. Poverty bottled!

I don't have this fragrance but I just want to thank heavens for Fragrantica once again for saving me from a bad blind buy. I saw this one and I thought, hmm...a Fracas for men? I'm a woman but the idea sounded intriguing stirring up visions of a masculine edgy tuberose sex machine. Yep...sounds like I would have been horrifically disappointed. Oh Fragrantica, how I love thee.

Fracas For Men is awful. I liked it initially when I bought it about 12 years ago, but smelling it now, I hate it. Its cheapness is obvious in that it smells like an old oily rag used to wipe a dipstick from a car engine. This is not hyperbole. Fracas For Men smells a lot like the equally horrendous Bogart from the 1970s. Fucking terrible.

Desire for man Dunhill, and Perry Ellis Perry Man, the same citrusy, rose, green apple, vanilla scent.
