Nuit Velours

I tried this fragrance on a fluke visit to Selfridges and it was a random pick up from the shelf. From the first whiff I knew that this was an unusual perfume, it is a beautiful deep gourmand with rich notes of creamy milk and it's sillage is fantastic. It opens really bright and packs a punch of pink pepper. Having worn it home I sniffed my hand often and strangely wrestled with myself trying to decide if I liked it or not. It evolves slowly and reveals the vanilla and musk after a few hours but retains the cream and lasts forever on my skin. Having reflected on this perfume, I just simply need it. I have to have this in my collection. It's a rich, sensuous fragrance with beautiful complexity.

This is a masterpiece. I usually HATE sweet or gourmand fragrances. But, this caught my heart and I've been intrigued all the time since then. It's definitely a milky sweet scent but, it's also demure, powdery and classy (because it's Piguet). I just wish this could be paid more attentions. It's currently available only in the US.

The opening of Nuit Velours is simply breathtaking. I love gourmand fragrances and when I sprayed this initially, I could almost taste it. I was transported into the decadent depths of melting caramel: smooth, creamy and delectable. This lasted for about a minute or so, and then the fragrance transitioned into a powdery musk with milky undertones, it was nice but a little lacklustre in comparison to the opening. The creamy facet made a later comeback and the fragrance was faintly reminiscent of caramel and cream. The fragrance projects well initially but on the dry down (at least on myself) it very much becomes a skin scent. The opening alone is enough to make me want to buy a full bottle but I will try it out a few more times before committing. I must say that Robert Piguet has been releasing some banging fragrances lately. First Knightsbridge, then L'Insomnuit and now this, they are on fire! ETA: Dry down smells like cocoa butter

I really like this fragrance, possibly the best I tried since my love, Le Feu d’Issey, is discontinued. It is definitely unusual and it has a beautiful complexity. On my skin it opens sweetly with a milky vanilla note, after a while the vanilla is sparkled by the peppers and dries down with sweet musky-woody notes. I have a feeling this fragrance “interacts” a lot with the skin scent creating a unique combination on each person. Do not blind buy this one.

i almost love it. sweet vanilla scents are right up my alley! the lactones (probably from the whipped cream) ruin it for me. they aren’t heavy here by any means but my skin tends to grab them and amplify them. bummer.
