Blue Water

Capucci Blue Water was released almost a year ago in April 2019, but I did not pay too much attention to it, leaving neglected, thinking, after all, was just another drop in the ocean. However, it was only after buying Capucci l'Homme Suave, Event, and Anima Nera I decided to give a chance to this blue guy. Although no disturbances and the smell is a deja-vu, it grabs your attention with its citrus and spicy notes and then intoxicates with its woody and floral essences. It is the tribute of independence expressed in an aromatic woods, in a deep and mystic dark blue midnight juice, when the sand of a Mediterranean beach meets the dry breath of cedar notes and the liveliness of citrus. Over the past decade, they have been released many fragrances that could be classified as classical modern, and Blue Water is no exception. Blue Water is a woody aromatic fragrance, but it has a simple-minded sporty maritime vibe, and the oceanic nature of the perfume becomes more pronounced the longer I wear it. In the opening, a stereotypical peppery minty leaf strokes strong zesty grapefruit, mixing some green menthol into the oily, yellow peel. The lemon is almost dimmed, mites of oddly-warm grated nutmeg and ground pink pepper float on clear, ginger juice, but without the actual aquatic smell. To me, it starts shrill with more zesty and sharp than spicy, and the citrus fruits prevail on the seasonings. I feel a tenacious powdery accord as if the sparkle of bergamot was in the mix. Right after the top notes calm down, I get the scent of sandal and cedar duo mixed with mild vetiver, and a floral note adds even more warmth to the mid-phase of development. Though there is a pinch of freshness that usually links with marine and sport fragrances, anyway, there's more complexity and better ingredients used here than in your average water/sport perfume. The aquatic is mixed in this hybrid in a thoughtful way, which means that we are not dealing with something mediocre marine, so no likens to Bvlgari Aqva, JV Artisan Blue, or Davidoff Cool Water to mention a few. In the heart, I get more conspicuous the smokiness from the incense. Dry cedar, the kindest vetiver, and the warmest sandalwood combine beautifully to create an irresistible exotic flavour. The base is naturally smooth, hedonic, and the sweetness is pleasant yet bound; it doesn't go overboard with it. In the background of the scent, I still detect that faint aroma of the smoky flavour. There is something that reminds me of a mighty midsummer eve, full of floral fragrances. The floral character is mainly due to patchouli, labdanum, and rich jasmine, which gives it an incredibly natural sensation. The undertones of ambergris (e.g., ambroxan) further add a surreal quality to the mixture. It is in high doses here, which can be found in similar perfumes such as CD Sauvage, for instance, nevertheless not a clone of that. What remains on my skin when it seems that the smell has disappeared is a shade mossy/musky. It serves you well in any type of occasion, formal or informal, business meetings, black tie events, late-night parties, or appointment. The smell is not so strong as to become offensive, but even so weak that I could not impress. It's a fresh scent from the onset that opens cold and then warms up the closer to the wearer's skin you go. Performance is average, in line with modern EDP, and you can expect it to last several hours depending on your skin type, before drying down to a semi-sweet, subtle and mossy base that continues to linger a good while longer. Since it is full of aroma chemicals that radiate in an aura around a person, it may cause anosmia and olfactory fatigue to the actual wearer. I'm curious if anyone else has endured this, but today I walked outside briefly in very light rain, and it caused the scent to come to life fabulously. Blu Water is not a perfume to sample on a blotter, where it smells stunted and sketchy; it should be worn and applied with a generous hand to experience its subtle phases of development. It has not good lasting power and sillage. It is a very safe and inoffensive fragrance. It doesn't stand out to me like some of the others in my collection as anything special. However, it is pleasing and enjoyable to wear. I guess that problem is that the composition is very much in the same vibe as other fashionable scents like Dior Sauvage etc. Do not think, though, that this is a sophisticated fragrance. It has more depth than most of the colognes of its kind but remains cool to the wide-lived. Stay well; stay healthy.

I've never tried bleu de chanel so I wasn't sure what to expect. To me it's spicy, sparkly and a bit warm. I'm not sure why so many people are saying it's a summer fragrance. I don't see it myself. To me it feels more suited to Spring. If it had some aquatic notes like Bvlgari Aqva Atlantiqve, it would be far better for summer. With its generally pleasant , comforting atmosphere, it will work for most occasions. Given the quality, universality, and price, this is an easy blind buy and would be in my top 10 cheapies.

I’ve never really paid any attention to Bleu de Channel, I smelt it once or twice back in the day. I decided to pick this Capucci up as I love Capucci Pour Homme, and was very impressed with Evento Uomo (Aventus). So I decided to go for three, having heard it was a great rendition of BDC just made me even more curious. I’ve worn this plenty and I really enjoy it when the mood makes me reach for a rich blue, which isn’t that often, but when I do this is delicious. Today however, I was keen to smell BDC, so I tried the EDT and the Parfum on skin and card. I am really amused, and subsequently pleased to finally discover just how much this Capucci smells like the BDC EDT, as I would never pay coin for the OG. I wasn’t doing a side by side, but I note that the BDC opening was slightly different, but after less than 10 minutes it started to bloom into exactly what I know from the Capucci, and then it stayed almost neck and neck with the similarities, ending the same too. I’ve still got BDC on a strip, and can confirm that the Capucci is a very very close and very delicious version of BDC. It lasts ages, projects well, and, if you can find it, is very inexpensive indeed. I also realised just how much the original BDC DNA has been added to shower gels and hand washes and deodorants etc. It’s such a shame that it’s become so familiar, and newbies to the Channel will just be reminded of the toiletries they’ve invariably experienced.

Honestly, this is quite a reasonable buy. After some time on the skin it actually becomes very cosy to wear, however, both of my capucci purchases (l'homme suave - sauvage) have quite a violent and irritating opening. Blu Water does have that very nice bleu de chanel vibe to it, makes you feel very gentlemanly, but on the other hand again, gives a certain uncle atmosphere to it. I'm very much looking forward to try to wear this in the summer. When actually comparing it to the BDC line, I'd say that it combines all 3 fragrances, having a somehow dark base to it, while using a lot of strong, sharp and bright citrusy opening, grapefruit, something like L'homme de versace. I may however be biased by the super low price. Perhaps this is how it works with relatively cheap fragrances. So verdictum; It smells like it could be both a cheap and an expensive perfume. Very pleasant, cosy, especially after the noted opening. Rough on the beginning. Could use some reformulating to make it softer and more high end. I rated okay in value. Call me cheap, but I just still don't feel convinced to be continuously buying this kind of a fragrance for this kind of a price. Maybe I am spoiled. 70-80% all Bleu de Chanel and combined.

Opens up right away as Bleu de Chanel Edt. The dry down is also just like BDC. If you compare them side by side you can tell there is a very very slight difference but in the air there is no difference between this and BDC. I got a 100ml for around $20. Very worth the price and smells amazing. Probably the best BDC Edt clone I have tried.
