Wow!! What A Throw Back To Yesteryear Indeed!! Have Just Received A Brand New Bottle Of This For My Birthday Tomorrow From A Very Dear & Special Friend In Germany!! Who Remembered That I Always Wore "Rochas Byzance Edp" In That Stunning Heavy Blue Glass Bottle (I Still Have & Kept) That It Used To Be Presented In!! To Me Anyway,This Perfume Was Then Pure Sex Appeal In A Bottle,& When I Wore It,I Always Drew Attention & Received The Most Wonderful Compliments!! The First Night I Danced With My Now Husband I Was Wearing That Very Perfume,& It Always Stuck Very Firmly In Both Our Heart's!! You Can Imagine My Total Disbelief When I Heard That It Was Being Discontinued (I Actually Cried) As It Was As If A Very Good Dear Friend Was Leaving For Good Never To Be Seen Again!! I Still Sniff My Original Bottle Which I Left A Little Of The Original Formula Inside It,& Instantly Remembered That First Night I Wore This & Danced With My Now Husband!! Perfume Sure Is A Wonderful Memory!! The Year's Have Passed & I Still Never Forgot About Rochas Original Byzance!! Even Though I Wear Their "Madam Rochas" & Loved It,There Was Always Something Very Much & Personal Missing (This) Not For One Minute Did I Know Or Think That This Stunning Perfume Had Been Re-launched!! The Bottle May Have Now Lost It's Once Glamour,& The Edp Now An Edt ,But DON'T Let That Put You Off One Bit!! As I Can Honestly Say Hand On Heart That This New Formulation Is As Close To The Original As You'll Ever Find!! The New Formulation Is Deffo Softer Than The Original Byzance Edp,But As It Wear's On My Skin It Gets More & More Closer To The Original!! I'm Actually Getting The Most Beautiful Wafts Of Byzance When I Move,Just Like The Good Old Year's So Byzance Once Again Has Wrapped Her Loving Arm's Around Me Just Like She Used Too!! I've Re-Discovered My Dear Old Friend Once Again!! & Can't Wait For My Husband To Arrive Home From Work & See His Reaction To The Aroma & See If He Recognises It!! To Me Anyway The Byzance Fragrance Is A Warm Spicy Balsamic Oriental,Laced With Sparkling Aldehydes,Green Oak Moss,Carnation,Rose/Turkish Rose,Vanilla & The Most Wonderful Gentle Floral Aroma As It Wear's On Your Skin!! & The One Question I Will Always Ask Rochas "Why Was This Absolute Stunning Gem Ever Discontinued In The First Place" But Absolutely Delighted That Rochas Have Decided To Re-Introduce It Once Again!! Wouldn't It Be Something Extra Special Indeed If They Also Used The Original Bottle Design!! Think They'd Deffo Be Onto A Real Winner Again!! I'm Actually Now Going To Order Another Bottle Of It,As I'm So Impressed With It!! & A Massive Thankyou To "Kittie" Who First Introduced Me To Rochas Byzance All Those Year's Ago In Work!! Her Two Signature Perfumes Then Where (Estee Lauder's White Linen & Rochas Byzance) Perfume Sure Is A Wonderful Memory!! Will Up-date Again In The Future!!

This is a personal one, because I bought its little sister Byzantine from my first wages - and it was already getting discontinued back then, so buying a bottle of Byzance was nearly mission impossible - and I love it dearly up to this day. So I never actually tried Byzance, although once I read somewhere that this is the scent assigned to my zodiac sign, so I wanted to own it even more for this silly reason alone..It was also a cultish thing to me, first thing I ever looked up as for online shopping was this bottle, but then I just found it too expensive and gave it a pass: I was loaded with 30 different bottles, so it never seemed like I can`t live without it. The other day I saw the new edition of Byzance on ebay, price reasonable, but only a few bottles left..I had to snatch it, it was like a `now or never again in this effin life`-moment. The bottle is the same, or very similar to Madame Rochas, the cap is heavy, not plastic though. The box I`m not impressed with, but hey, let`s not be judgy. And the scent. The initial blast is very 80-s - like a classic, good quality cologne for ladies, like Chanel no.5 or basically any other perf from that era. Bit green, bit soapy, bit heavy. Then as it dries, ylang-ylang, tuberose, amber, woods, all embraced by aldehydes, all along the way. I get no rose or carnation, or if they are there they blend in well, don`t stand out individually. The aldehydes are still there in the drydown, but the scent is complex, lasts 5-6 hours easily. And it`s lovely. Vintage feel, but it`s going strong, a real powerhouse perfume if you like. I recommend to dreamers like myself..

This is a great reissue, and quite faithful to the original. Keep in mind it's still the EDT, which is airier than the rather sweet EDP. Interparfums is certainly a much better home than P&G for such a brand, and this gives me hope for future reissues.

The start is as type like L ́Heure Bleue, then it transforms into Coco edt - the clove is very noticeable. Large holder, for clothing lasts all day I don't know the original version, so I can't compare the effect of reformulation

lovely byzance, yet a colder Byzance. though I would still recommend trying this. if you're into vintage floral aldehydes. to my nose, there is a difference between this version and the most recent Byzance in the circular/round bottles. the main difference being some missing amber and orris. the warmth of the base notes are lacking here, Even the latest of Byzance (2007 seems quite recent for Byzance) in the EDT is far warmer and richer in the base / dry down. The newer edition has more aldehydes, a touch soapy, less powder, perhaps more florals. If there is incense, I am struggling to find it. (and a note in there, reminds me of the "carnation note" in the modern L'Air du temps and i detect something a touch minty too). This is a floral aldehyde contained in the Madame Rochas bottle (with a heavy golden cap that fits). Byzance original was an oriental floral (wonky cap that is difficult to take on and off), was incense (joss sticks) and depth. it is almost as if they have turned her into a pronounced 1980's fragrance, rather than the timeless piece she originally was. but lovely none the less. if that makes sense. best not to compare them, there will be disappointment and longing, because all in all, this one is still very good.
