Byzantine

A beautiful floral for spring and summer. For a moment, I thought I detected some of the Byzance DNA, I think it's the carnation adding some spice, but this really is it's polar opposite. It's bright and sunny and I mostly get mimosa. Some have said it has a similarity with Champs Elysee, and I can see that, but this is more delicate and has none of the lilac that dominates Champs. The woods hover in the background about an hour after application, but this is a floral bouquet for floral lovers. The bottle and pale yellow juice look radiant and capture the essence of this scent - sunshine in a bottle! PS - Just saw review below mine said the same thing - I didn't copy, I swear!! ; )

Just purchased a backup bottle, but I need to look for more!! I don't know if it was ever made in a larger size, but all that is out there are .85 oz bottles, and though I lucked out for the most part, that size is going for the $85 - 200 range. If anyone has a bottle and would like to swap, please let me know. PS - my mistake. Those prices are for 1.7 oz bottles - guess I didn't luck out quite like I thought I did!

...I wore it in 1997 at uni and I went to dinner with friends and a tourist turned from a table behind us and asked what fragrance I had on and I proudly stated the name, and she was impressed that such a young woman would have such expensive taste! But the look of pride on my then boyfriends face was the cherry on top......to be young and superficial!:-)

A light floral scent but very present. I believe it made for a very stylish women above 30 years old, very feminine and delicate but strong personality. Below the flowers you can smell the cloves, subtle, giving the oriental touch. Very beautiful!

Gorgeous powdery and natural mimosa and assorted florals, a very easy to wear vintage perfume. Linear but I’ve never cared about development, especially if I like the opening. Exquisite and sophisticated, I’m loving the pretty aura.

Not exactly the same but reminds me of yves rocher pur arnica hand cream’s smell. Very powdery and soft yellow flowers, I love it 😍

This is quite pretty! Beautiful yellow flowers on a bed of powder and the brightness of the sun. This perfume makes me think of the first warm sunny spring day when spring flowers like hyacinth, daffodil, and tulips are still in bloom. I only got about 3 hours of wear from a small free sample I received, but it was really nice to experience this perfume on a dreary cold winter day!

I think they discontinued this one. I liked the oriental, musky scent that gives the impression of an oriental bazaar in a Mediterranean city kind of effect... This perfume reminds Dune by Dior a bit and it definitely is a mature smell. Would smell better on bronze skin.

A true powder bomb. Intense floral. So strong that my brain feel overwhelmed. Not for me. I have sold my bottle, hope its new owner enjoys it.

One of my first `real` perfumes..I was 20 and there was a clearance at a small local perfume shop. I bought the body lotion and got a nearly full 50ml tester with it free of charge. They were discontinuing it around that time.. A most romantic summery scent - not as citrusy or powdery as it states up above though. Flowers upon flowers - mainly white flowers and a bit of orange flower or tiare, still not sweet, just pleasantly fragrant and natural as they really truly are. Maybe a bit more mimosa than heliotrope, freesia and jasmine - finding just about enough carnation there though, plus there is something cypress or cedar in there as well mixing in with the petals, but fades to the background quickly and leaves us with an elegant and delicate white flowers-summer scent. There is something creamy-lotiony about it - people did mention that before when I wore it that it smells like a lovely perfumed body moisturiser. It is a gorgeous bouquet for mainly spring and summer, lasts around 4-5 hours on me, but I noticed I could smell it on garments the next day even. An eternal favorite of mine, can`t see ever getting bored of it. Such a pity it`s discontinued..

Sometimes when reading reviews one wonders, if we really are talking about the same scent, so different are the experiences and views :-D Anyway, MY Byzantine (11 years old bottle) opens with a blast of mimosa and spices, and above all lingers a huge cloud of clove (not listed, but Sarah Baz Eleazar also gets that spice). The blend is strong and savory, very warm. This oriental mixture takes a long time to calm down, and actually it never loses totally its spiciness, but some new tones step in when wood aromas become more prominent. Later my nose claims that it detects vanilla (not listed) and perhaps sweet heliotrope ("caramel nuances"). I think, that in that third phase Byzantine resembles Byzance as a multi-faceted, rich concoction, and deserves this twin name and bottle. Sillage is at first outstanding, later good, and longevity remarkable (that is, a whole day on me). All in all, the question here, in my opinion, is not about flowers as much as spices and wood. Byzantine is really an original, loud but oddly sophisticated, delightful scent! I would not hesitate to call it a masterpiece.

Byzantine is a joyful "yellow" fragrance striking a satisfying balance between sweet florals, powder and freshness. Honey-like mimosa flower and almondy heliotrope make for a caramel-sweet core, with carnation and subtle lime lending a pretty lift to the sweet notes. Smooth woods paired with the mix of other notes create a comforting, powdery roundness to the base. The lime comes out on my skin during the drydown, which is unusual, but keeps the fragrance from feeling cloying or plodding. I like Byzantine's style and have found it in other 90's scents (Perhaps by Bob Mackie gives me the same vibe, in particular) and I am sad it is out of vogue. These fresh, powdery florals worked so well on my skin, were versatile and appropriate for many occasions, and did wonders for my mental outlook! Find Byzantine, spray it and proceed to feel wistful and elated. :)

The name Byzantine conjures up something puzzling and labyrynth like, but the fragrance does none of those things and that is completely good. This is listed as an oriental scent and I expected something spicy and powdery, but was pleasantly surprised to dind that the florals dominated the composition and that it was surpisingly sunny and bright and very appropriate for daytime wear. Sure, there's carnation and yes orange blossom can be dolorous and sweet, but when there's mimosa galore, muguet and citrus a scent tends to make my mood float in the air. Byzantine is such a scent. Maybe some will find a complicated maze in the accords and if I spent way too much time analysing, I might be able to look in every nook and cranny of the fragrance, but I can appreciate the overall scent immediately. Pretty!

This perfume is the most beautiful fragrance with difference I have ever smelt. Considering, I have over 100 perfumes, this is simply marvellous. This perfume is a floral bouquet of sweet flowers, with a lovely pollen smell. I have placed on my clothes and it lasts about 6+ hours. The smell is an exotic, happy smell which relates to chic style of France. I do not mind reapplying the perfume because it is a masterpiece from a bygone era. It has an soft, sharp dry down, but I feel like I am walking into a lovely sweet fragrant garden with the wind blowing. This perfume is a MUST for perfumistas or collectors. It is discontinued, however, fortunately, I have just purchased two bottles at a chemist wanting to get rid of old stock. It is also available on Ebay.

Have just received the 50 ml bottle of this charm! After first application - I am in a cloud of most refined carnation all covered with mimosa and lilies of the valley veils with a touch of powdery goodness and that feather-like coziness which is a part of heliotrope contribution. Then, after first few minutes it settles down a little and becomes closer to skin sweety-balsamic vibrating aroma. Wearing this feels like being in a sunny rays up on a top of heavenly white puffy cloud floating in a nowhere in no times.. A heaven-like concoction!

a white floral, not a floriental at all, sort of aquatic and synthetic; it gets a little spice from the carnation but if you are a carnation lover, this is not a carnation fragrance; soft and light and NOTHING like Metalys/Metallica. Nothing. I love Byzance. This is an okay for me.

I would like to try this scent but i have been unable to find a bottle. Paleface mentions clove, witch is not listed. I think it is the carnation that has a distict likeness to cloves. Very spicy

I do not think it is available anymore - a pity - it was a good day time scent. I haven't been able to buy any since 2002

I never smelled this one...I would like to however! Who can make me happy with a sample or big bottle? Thanks! Action
