Lumiere EDT 2017 Edition

Lumiere EdT 2017 is a beautiful fragrance in its own right; I have, therefore, reviewed and considered it as such, not as a poor relative to the original (which I also own and love but which is, understandably, quite different). It should also be noted that, although this Lumiere is an EdT, its performance is that of an EdP; the sillage and longevity are both outstanding. To me, this is a wonderful fragrance which should be enjoyed far more widely than it is, deserving of a much better fate than being shunted aside in comparison to its sister. Thus: Lumiere is like a painting by one of the great Impressionists – a Monet, Manet or Degas, invoking the dreamlike qualities of enjoying the most balmy of early Summer evenings in a cottage garden, the still-warm air heady with scented honeysuckle and iris. The sun is setting, the light full of that particular warm pink and golden glow, bringing its own inner peace and joy to those lucky enough to experience it. Bees and butterflies abound, swallows soar in the skies, blossoms all around. Yes, there is honeysuckle, prominently heavy with sweetness and honey; iris swaying in and out of the lightest of breezes which also bring lily-of-the-valley, rose and heliotrope with ripening peach (the scent of the peach skin rather than the fruit itself), apricot and budding plum. The base notes provide the support with a gossamer-light quality – never intrusive, just there, humming along in the background, smiling contentedly. The promise of more joy permeates the whole; all is well in the world.

I’ve never smelled the previous Lumière before, and indeed, it’s better like that, because I’ve the feeling I’ve been looking for this perfume for years! I’ve got many other perfumes, niche or not, but they all lacked something « different » I was looking for. Lumière (meaning Sunlight) is just PERFECT for me. Powdery apricot, solar. I loved apricot as a child. Warm, sweet, not sugary. And a clean honeysuckle in the background. Honeysuckle is the smell of innocence to me. And perhaps the smell of the free lonely little girl I was. The white flowers here are a fluffy cotton in the cold and become a buttery cream (as frangipani could be) in the sun. It’s melting with my skin, so powerful and mild in the same time. I want my children to remember me this way, I want my husband to recognize me this way. I‘m a rather shy and introvert person, but also a kind and loving woman. I’m proud when the ones I love say I ‘m the heart of our family. Then, yes, this fragrance is me, summer in a bottle, tenderness, freedom, intensity, a little bit of subversion, a lot of sensibility, and why not, a delicate sensuality. It lasts the whole day, very potent without a hint of agression. I’m so so glad I found the best expression of myself. It just makes me happy.

This is a wonderful olfactory experience, even though I wouldn't wear it myself. Brings back a hidden childhood memory and can't place it anywhere, so familiar..Rich floral, orris in the drydown, sweet and aldehydic at the same time, rich and elegant without being cloying or too much. Chanel scents would be like this, it's the same ballpark, and yes, somewhere an impression of Nina Ricci L'Air du Temps is there too, but this is so much better! It doesn't have ANYTHING to do with the 2000's edition, which is a fresh and totally different fragrance altogether, so don't blind buy it hoping that.. Do buy it if you enjoy Chanel No. 5 edt or Estée Lauder's Estée or L'Air du Temps.

Love it! I have the 2017 edition so no experience with the original vintage one. But this one is a white flower bomb at start. At first i was bleh what is this but on skin it's marvelous. A old- fashioned flowery and spicy beauty. Longtivity and projection is moderate but good enough for me. It reminds me a bit of Fred Hayman and Caroline Herrera but these are really flower bombs from beginning to end♥️. Lumiere has a spicy twist but only succesful blind buy for the lovers of old- fashioned perfumes. For me a perfect blind buy.

An explosive, luminous, hyper-feminine, opulent fragrance, with an elusive fruity opening, not cloying, the emerging note of apricot immersed in an absolute and grandiose floral triumph of honeysuckle and heliotrope which decisively characterize the entire olfactory experience, followed by iris and lily of the valley and rose that frame, clearly perceptible. The base is enveloping, reassuring, musky, vanilla, powdery. Feminine, elegant, persistent fragrance that leaves its mark.

This smells like fruity solar notes powder to me. And the fruits smell like they are about to go off. It's not horrible but it's not for me. I will test again but I doubt I will change my mind. It reminds me a bit of Lalique original. That one had a powdery fruity slightly gone off hairspray vibe for me as well.

As soon as I heard that this legend would be back on the shelves, I could not be any happier. A blast from the past ? Alas no, just a shapeless acrid potion which has NOTHING in common with the glorious flower symphony that vintage Lumière used to be. How could such a renowned house like Rochas get so low ?

Reading the last 2 reviews got me to purchase it - was a blind buy. Oh boy how I love it. Not the longest lasting from my collections but what a wonderful smell! The name resembles mine .so I knew it couldn't be a mistake to grab it... and the smell oh wow! From the very first spraydrops till the end of the drydown it's elegant sunny happy and unique. Reminds me of long-ago superb summer vacation feelings on the southeast part of the globe From my home at least). Feelings I never want to forget and carry about in mind even 25 yrs after. Wonderful this perfume is in every way. A glorious piece of jewel.

Great, now my endless to-buy list has a new addition!! Not that I mind. <3
